Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie Intro week of 12/05

Happy Monday everyone! I noticed that the last couple weeks a newbie has started the newbie thread so hope it's ok that I took it upon myself this week. I have been lurking for a few weeks and am looking forward to finally joining in.

Ages (you and SO):
SO is 28 and I am 27.

How many months have you been TTC?
We did the whole NTNP thing for almost a year and nothing so this is our first month really trying.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

  • Tracking with FF.
  • I just started taking Vitex Friday to try to regulate my cycles a bit since I just got off a 75 day one, which is the third long cycle in a year. (Any good or bad input about vitex is welcome and appreciated)
  • I will also be starting to use OPK strips to try to figure out when I ovulate.
  • changing up my diet and activity level to try to be healthier.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  H and I have been married for just over 2 years. We are TTC our first child. We have two fur babies- a one year old chocolate lab and a cat who thinks he's a dog. They are both crazy and definitely keep me on my toes. My husband is a fireman part time and we both work for the same company full time. We basically work the same schedule which will give us lots of time to HIO.

I look forward to sharing experiences with others who are going through the same journey. Since most of my family and friends are single or not ready for kids, Its hard to talk to them about all of this. I really like how supportive everyone is here and I know I am really going to get a lot out of being a part of it. Can't wait to get to know all of you!

  • @Laureneg14 Welcome!  Have you talked to your OB about your long cycles?  Anything over 60 days without either AF or BFP is concerning.

  • @lulu1180 I went to my OB this time last year when I had a 55 day cycle. She took a lot of tests and everything seemed normal. It happened again from may-July and again just recently. It always "skips a month" when I do anything out of the ordinary. I went on vacation this last one. Hoping it's just stress and nothing more serious. I'll be going back to the OB in January so I will have to see what she thinks now.

  • @JJMNO1616 Welcome!  I was on the pill prior to TTC and my Dr suggested going off about a month before we planned on starting TTC and using other protection until that time. She also told me to start taking PNVs at the same time that I went off BCP.  Just a little input to help you decide what is best for you!

  • @lulu1180 I have been leaning towards stopping the Nuv after AF in February. Thanks for your input!

  • Ages (you and SO):  I am 27 and SO is 26 (27 in February)

How many months have you been TTC? We have been trying for 3 months, but NTNP since March.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • Tracking CM. I am going to start temping as soon as my period comes this month. I am on day 65 right now, ugh.
    • Using OPKs
    • Starting pre-seed this month too.
    • I have been seeing a midwife about my long cycles and missed periods. I am going to have a few blood tests run this month- whenever when my period decides to show up again!

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  My husband and I have been married for a year and a half- but together for 11 years. I am a registered nurse and my husband is a lobbyist/ analyst for a health care firm. I love to travel! We just got back from Japan in November and I'm heading to Israel in March. We are trying for our first child.

I have VERY irregular periods so I am so excited to get involved here and learn more about TTC and my cycles. I have been lurking on and off for over a year and feel ready to get involved with the community. I have already learned so much for this board! Nice to meet you all!

  • @sagegrove Welcome!  I'm glad you have been seeking medical help to figure out your long cycles and hope you are able to get answers soon!

  • @lulu1180 Thank you for the warm welcome! It is so hard not to try to diagnose myself, but I feel like I'm in good hands with my midwife. The first thing she recommended was to read TCOYF so I trusted her immediately, haha.
  • @Laureneg14 I just wanted to say hi- our situations sound so similar! I would love to learn more about vitex too. Off to google that now...
  • @sagegrove As mentioned in my newbie post, I also suffer from irregular cycles. While it's unfortunate for both of
us, it's nice to have someone in such a similar boat to share the struggle with. I hope your AF shows up soon and GL with the tests when she does!

  • Ages (you and SO):  I am 32 and DH is 30

How many months have you been TTC? This is our second (official) month.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? I have been trying to get my cycles regulated since I was on Depo Provera for 4 years off and on (also on minipill, BC pills). My last Depo shot was Dec 28 and FINALLY have had 3 cycles within 26-32 days. I have been temping and taking vitamins, but going to include OPKs and CM this month. Also going to try acupuncture in a few days because I really do not want to put any more synthetic hormones into my body.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  We have been married since May 2015 with just one fur baby (Ginger). I am a registered nurse that works in surgery, and hubby is a CPA. I am going to start studying for the GRE for nurse practitioner school because TTC is literally driving me crazy (and all my closest family/friends). Most of my distractions include football, shopping, fishing, cooking, yoga/working out, and sewing - been trying to get back into some hobbies that will occupy some of my time. I am so happy that I found this place and already learned a ton from the post - look forward to getting to know you guys!

Ages (you and SO):  I am 24 and my husband will be 24 this week!

How many months have you been TTC?
This will be the first month.  I'm not sure if its okay or not but I wanted to already get on a board so I can learn more, we know pretty much next to nothing about ttgp

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?

    • We're using preseed
    • I have been taking prenatals for 6 months
    • overall trying to be healthier, work out twice a week, not drink as often, etc.
    • I feel like I'm not doing enough but that's all I know so far.
    • Trying to educate myself more on fertility.  Like, I don't even know if my periods count as irregular.  They can be 4 or 5 days late sometimes but only later than that once (3 weeks late).

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)

I'm still in school but I'll graduate soon, we only have a fur child right now and we got married in October. I have a lot of anxiety and I'm a really impatient person so I'm really worried about how conceiving will go for me.  I take dance classes to work out and binge watch a lot of netflix while I study, I love documentaries. So hopefully,I can learn a lot from ya'll, sorry I'll probably sound like an idiot for a while but it's okay you can tell me :)

  • @sagegrove and @LaurenEG14 If you have irregular cycles (and have the coverage), I highly recommend seeing a naturopath instead of just doing vitex on your own. I had been on BC since I was 13, and went off once when I was 25. After only having three periods in a year (and being BSC, almost always 'PMSing'), the gyno diagnosed me with PCOS and told me to stay on the pill until I was ready to have kids, then he'd give me some meds to stimulate ovulation. This was most definitely NOT what I wanted, so when my DH and I were engaged (knowing we would want kids in the following year or so), I started seeing a naturopath. I went off the pill and she gave me an herbal tincture (which included vitex) as well as a supplement. I didn't deal with crazy mood swings, and within two months was starting to menstruate again, and within four was on a regular cycle.

@Breath_Easy92 Welcome - and it's definitely okay to be here on your first month! The best advice any of us can give you is to check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility (referenced in the newbie guide). It will teach you so much about your cycle, so that you aren't worried about being 'late'. You'll learn that there are two phases of your cycle (basically before and after you ovulate). Before you ovulate - the follicular phase - can vary in length, especially given various lifestyle/external factors like travel, illness, stress. After you ovulate - luteal phase - is fairly consistent month to month and generally only varies by a day or so (although some women have more variance, it's just less common). So once you start charting (particularly BBT and CM), you'll be able to know when you ovulate, and therefore when to expect your period. You'll see that most times you aren't really late after all, you just ovulated later than usual. Also - stay away from apps that only track your menstrual cycle. Use one that tracks all of the data, and you'll get a more accurate prediction of when to focus your efforts and when to expect AF.

Also - join your daily thread (WTO or TWW) and ALWAYS ask questions. The community here is incredibly supportive and is willing to help anyone along the journey as long as you follow the norms of the board.
  • @Sailing_Mama Thanks for the advice! I definitely will look into going to one!

  • Ages (you and SO):  SO is 28 and I am 24.

How many months have you been TTC?
This will be our first month, I just got my IUD taken out today. So we probably wont actively TTC until I get my cycle back and regular to track.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)? Plan to use FF, CM and OPK.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  DH and I have been married for two and a half years. We have an 11 month old daughter. We have two dogs and two horses. Both DH and I work for my family's construction business.  We are both very active and outdoors most of the time. I run and weight lift in my spare time.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and to help each other get through this crazy ride!

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @lablover920 I had mine taken out 11/16. FF Is awesome except you have to have a recent AF so that's fun
  • @MrsRoberts1022 I saw you recently had the IUD out. No AF for you yet? I only had mine in for about 9 months (we thought we were one and done) and I have always had a regular cycle. The midwife said she wouldn't be surprised if AF would show up in a couple weeks. Here is to waiting! haha. What did your doctor say as to how long AF can take to come back?
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @lablover920 I had mine 5 years. They said I could have a light af this month but it could take up to 3 months to have the raging ones I had pre iud. It's been almost a month so that's been fun. I almost would rather start today just so I can have a beginning point the not knowing is killing me
  • @Sailing_Mama awesome thanks! I'll have to check that book out. I'll have lots of free time now that my finals are over :)
  • @AlohaKumu Welcome!  Most of the ladies on here use and suggest Fertility Friend to track your cycles.  If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.  We look forward to seeing you on the daily threads!

Ages of you and SO: we're both 29

How many months have you been TTC? This will be our 2nd cycle.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?  Tracking cycle with an app on my phone. Trying to stay GF since i have Celiac Disease.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.)  DH and i have been together for 12 years, married for 2. Hoping to add to our family and getting to know everyone!
  • @Sailing_Mama thanks for the advice- I am going to look into that! I want to get involved on the boards but I'm not sure where I belong? TWW or WTO? I assume WTO but I don't know if that makes sense.

@adirat I am going to start temping. I am so curious to know if im ovulating and you're right- that's the best way for me to find out. Thanks for the advice!
  • @sagegrove Definitely jump right in! I'd say since you are having such a long cycle,  you can really join either board (and no one is going to tell you to get out haha). I know there are one or two ladies in the TWW thread that are having longer cycles and really just waiting for AF, so you may feel comfortable there.

You can also lurk and join in the conversation in both, and just see where you feel more comfortable at this point.
  • Ages : both 34

How many months: 7 yrs unprotected

What ways are we trying: BBT and HIO until FET in Oct '17.

About me: I've been on this site for 7ish years, but had a different name originally. I couldn't remember my old log in, so I made this account last year.
I have stage 4 endometriosis, IR PCOS, only 1 tube left and it is filled with scar tissue... so the likelihood of getting pregnant on our own is <1%. I just want to see if the switch in metformin will allow me to ovulate, and might as well take advantage of it if I am!
We have an 8 month old IVF baby, and several frozen babies waiting for us to try again in Oct. when we don't succeed.

p.s. I suck at mobile bumping. the language and etiquette have changed in 7 years. I kinda miss the crazy, drama filled posts and the diehard fierce regs. When drive-bys call you rude, I laugh hysterically! They have no idea how they would have been eaten alive back in the day. You are all very gentle and sweet.

Welcome! I was on the bump back in 07/08 too...I miss the ridiculousness too, haha! Kept me entertained all day long, and the boards were super active back then. I am still in touch with a couple of the ladies I met on here back in the day, too :-)
