I don't think there's any reason to start it before the babies come; we have enough pinned to the top as it is IM(U?)O.
I also agree with waiting, but I wonder if we can unpin any of them? The sex of the baby one can probably be unpinned, right? Anything new would be the team green ladies which we won't find out until the baby is here.
@HeatSparks Hang in there!! I'm sure it sucks but fx everything looks good at your next scan!
Dress shopping was a bust last night. Target was the only store we went to that even had mat dresses. I tried on 4, 2 were mat dresses and 2 were not. I thought the 2 might work but they didn't look good on and the 2 mat dresses were the t-shirt/bodycon type and they were not flattering at all. (one was all horizontal stripes, made my butt look big and I felt fat) But that was literally the only mat dresses they had. Wtf?!? With the holidays you'd think they'd have more selection. So tonight I'll go look at Ross by myself because H doesn't like that store (he's weird).
I'm also trying to figure out hostess gifts this morning and I was tired as soon as I woke up so it's gonna be a fun day...
I could also use some fashion advice! I tentatively bought a dress for my shower because Zulily had a great sale and it was a third of the cost maternity stores are charging. It's probably not the most seasonally appropriate for January but I'm wondering if I can make it work? Do you think if may look ok with certain colored tights (like grey?)?
I'm attending an open house for a local doula group this Thursday and was looking for advice from anyone who's BTDT. The group has about 20 birth doulas and I'm guessing a large number of them will be at the event. I'm pretty sure that my options will be limited by availability but I'm wondering what else I should be looking for when talking with everyone. Any suggestions for questions to ask?
Edited for clarity: I know there are a ton of generic question lists on google... just wondering if there is something you wish you'd asked/known if you had a doula at a previous birth.
I've never had a doula but I am one! I wouldn't worry *too* much about questions but focus on the connection you make. Depending on the doula group they make be independent contractors for the group and they just get called in day of. Ask about that! There are a lot of people/businesses moving towards that model especially in bigger cities.
Other than that ask about what they bring to a birth physically and skill set. Some will have music ready, essential oils (ask if they've had extensive training, I find most stick with lavender and peppermint if they haven't had a true training), heat packs, etc. As far as skill set goes ask about rebozo (if you can find a doula trained in that- AWESOME) and Spinning Babies.
If you are interested in hypnobirthing ask their familiarity with it. As a rule most of us have a basic understanding and use some of the primary concepts in a birth, but there are doulas who are actually certified in hypnobirthing/babies and if that is something that you are REALLY INTO then seek out someone who has taken the appropriate courses. Ask for business cards for any that you make a connection with, then explore their webpage see if they blog and then set up your consult.
Oh! And see what certifying body they are under... DONA, ProDoula, Birth Bootcamp, BirthArts, ToLabor, are all big-ish ones. Message me here or on FB if you have anymore questions!

What do you think ladies? It says it's true to prepregnancy size and stretchy so it should fit well and it's nursing friendly! What should I pair it with?
@LilyASF42 I am so thankful to not be pregnant in the summer though! I still only wear leggings and a tshirt or tank top and will be sweating and out of breath just walking up stairs or out to the car or anything! I bought a maternity sweatshirt and thought it would be a staple in my wardrobe... I wore it once and thought I was going to die! haha
I realize I'm on the opposite side, but I'm not superstitious and I thought a birth announcement thread would have been well to start early to mid December... that's only 4 weeks away from some of the ladies due dates and honestly I would say someone will go earlier than expected.
@LilyASF42 that story is pretty amusing. My husband used to do a lot of research in precious metals and coins, that guy can easily melt down the pieces into decent size chunks at home and take the to any pawn shop. He's already got it so if he's smart he'll spread it out and get rid of it quick. Edit: I just realized I sounded like I'm pro thieving but I'm not lol
@becbec28 that dress is lovely! I wanted to wear mine in crimson, but we did red a few years ago and husband wanted black.
@lfrank12 that dress is pretty!! I think white tights would be fine but might look more like a spring outfit, I think depending on the shade of gray, gray could look amazing especially if you pair it up with silver/charcoal colored chunky jewelry.

Agree! I wore a cardigan and boots with my leggings and t-shirt today. I had to ditch my scarf and throw my hair up in a bun because I was dying. All this while the thermostat says it's 69 in my store. I'm probably freezing all the customers out!
it only gets better if you plan on breastfeeding ladies! :-) I found that much worse than the summer heat. I swear my body temp would rise 10 degrees every time I fed that baby lol
I don't think I could handle being super pregnant during the summer! I'm miserable in the summer when I'm NOT pregnant lol...and being in 1st Tri during the summer was awful for me!
Thanks for the opinions on the dress everyone! Now starts the search for nice maternity tights.
I also agree with everyone about being happy to be more pregnant in the winter. I'm currently always wearing layers because I never know when I'm going to suddenly get hot! It probably doesn't help that our temps here have ranged from 30-60 degrees in the last few weeks
+1 for being pregnant in winter. I was due in Aug with my 2nd and we lived in the Baltimore area. It was so hot that I would never leave the house unless it was to go to work or a pool. I remember going to a 4th of July event and sweating as soon as we left the house and being miserable. I used to be an always cold person but these days I am the one always turning the temp down. I am glad it is finally consistently cold here!
@lfrank12 I think the gray would look super cute!!
Am I the only one who isn't hot?! I am always cold in general and I have been as cold, if not colder, lately. Case in point, I'm in fleece lined leggings, knee high boots and a thick sweater with my space heater on!
I thought i'd be warm with pregnancy but so far I'm just as cold as I've always been.
So my winter coat finally stopped zipping this week and I ordered the cheap maternity coat from Walmart and picked it up today. It sucks, it's huge and puffy and ugly and made cheaply but it was 1/4 the price of the next cheapest maternity coat I could find so hoping it lasts me until the baby is here and that I can fit back in my old coat after he is born!
In other walmart news I did ship to store for some stupid reason and when I got there to pick up my coat and a couple other things I found out that one wasn't ready yet. So that was annoying. To make it worse I got an e-mail 5 minutes after I left saying the last item was now ready... It's going to be a few days before I can brave walmart again, something about that store just makes my blood boil.

@leslie1331 I'm not hot this pregnancy and am so surprised! My son was born in December in PA and i was comfortable in light tshirts and flip flops, despite the snow! I never needed a winter coat and was fine with light layers. But this time I've been cold since fall/early winter hit (in Illinois this time) and unexpectedly have gone shopping for maternity sweaters and sweatshirts! I guess it's another "every pregnancy is different" example.
I don't even get why a birth announcement thread is even debated. Whether we make one or not, it will sit there empty until there is a birth. It's not like people will check it with no posts...

I was only thinking about how all the previous bmbs have had a hard time getting it stickied. I guess it doesn't need to be, I just thought it looked weird seeing big lectures on only posting if you have a baby, but then 10 billion people sending msgs to the admins to have it pinned. And if someone has an emergency delivery, they'll have to come in and say oh I had my baby, then make it. It really doesn't matter that much to me though if the majority would rather wait.

Ohh I didn't realize it was such a process to sticky. But I don't really check other boards!

I just noticed as I've lurked the announcements in the other months, but this is my first experience on here so I don't really know what's normal for that kind of stuff.
Re: Weekly Randoms (11/28)
Funny news article this morning
https://www.cnn.com/2016/11/29/us/daring-gold-theft-ny-trnd/index.html
Three questions though:
1) Who keeps around a bucket of gold flakes?
2) Were the armoured truck dudes new on the job??
3) What exactly is this guy going to do with the flakes? Melt it down? Does he know a guy? Will he just roll around in it occasionally?
I don't condone theft but I kind of applaud the guy. Waddling away with the bucket. It's a great image :-)
