Re: July 2017 baby name ideas

  • We have a John William and James Hudson. If next is a boy we are thinking Connor, Quinn, or Ryan. If a girl, our short list is Madeleine, Emily, or Emma.

  • We have a Cora already.

Our shortlist for girls, before we even became pregnant is Eliza or Ingrid.

Boys? That's another story. We couldn't decide on the last one and I'm sure it'll be the same. I like Owen, Patrick or Henry.

We were team green last time and will be again this time so hopefully we'll settle!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • With my son (4 months) DH and I never agreed on his name so I call him by his first name which is Luca and my DH and his family call him by his middle name. Thankfully we have agreed on a boy and a girl name this time around!
  • Girl- Lucy
    Boy- Christian

we already have a Michael :)

  • I have had a girl's name picked out for years: Annabeth Rees Leigh. Ann is my grandma's middle name, Elizabeth is my mom's first name and my middle name, my sister's name is Ashleigh, and every male in my husband's family for the last four generations has had the middle name Rees. Since he is the last male, and we don't know if we will have another child, I want to give our first child the name, regardless of gender. It is quite a mouthful, but it means a lot. My husband hasn't said that he doesn't like it, but he has suggested several other names instead, such as Olivia and Sophia.

As for boy's names, I honestly have no idea. For whatever reason, I have not put as much thought into boy's names, aside from the previously mentioned Rees middle name. That, of course, means that we are going to have twin boys

  • is anyone worried about bullying? my in laws have a very unappealing sense of humor that i keep worrying about.

Now, I'm Arab so i'll try to explain my concern as best as i can lol

I like the name Joud for a girl, a natural nickname is Joudy however in arabic JouTy means shoes and i'm just worried that they are too close, i don't want people calling her shoes!

i told my brother i was thinking of this name and he brought up the same thing!

I’m not even going to discuss boys names unless we know for a fact that we are having a boy, my husband and I just can’t agree on 1!

  • @mars8k - how is Joudy pronounced? I have a guess but don't want to be wrong. It sounds very pretty in what I've made up for pronunciation...

  • We have picked:

girl- Rose Desiree (to be paired with DD1, Melody, completing to homage to my paternal grandfather whose middle name was Melrose)

boy- Rikard (unknown middle name - I'm fighting for Charles, DH'a paternal grandfather and my maternal grandfather's first name. DH is fighting for Alexavier - or however you spell it)

    @mars8kWhat about ju-ju as a nickname?

  • We have a Carter Nolan.

Girl would be Averi (pronounced Avery) Robin (Mom mn)

The only boy name Iike is Felix David (not huge on David but it is a family mn)

I am totally passing some of these boy names to my sister. Don't worry she wont be having another baby for 2 years they are just already planning. His last name is super long and she loves old fashioned names so their future child is going to need to use all the bubbles on their test forms in high school.
  • We have two girls already and DH is convinced that this one is another girl and won't talk seriously about boy name. He's set on Gwendolyn Stacy as the name.  I don't mind it too much since it's not a well known comic book character .

  • Boy: Matthew Joseph
    Girl: Penelope Marie (nn Poppy)

DD is a twin and my grandfather was a twin so if that happens then we have a lot of thinking to do but I like many of the ideas on this thread!

  • @lamphele from Spider-Man?
    Yes
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @lamphele I recognized that name from Spiderman right away, but I still think it's pretty, and I don't think many others would make the connection. Our boy name is from a hugely popular comic book/movie/video game franchise but unless you're a die hard fan, I don't think anyone will make the connection. It's all about what you and DH like!
  • DH and I are going to have a hard time with this especially if we have a girl. He is set on Genesis for a girl. He won't admit it but won't deny it either but I know Genesis is after Sega Genesis. No way our kid is being named after a video game system!

  • I've only ever heard of Rory for a boy actually, I quite like it!
  • I actually love the name Juniper!! I usually like classic names, but Juniper is really very beautiful and even though it's not classic, it sounds like it! Love!

    As for names:
    DS1 is Benjamin
    DS2 is Oliver

and for this baby, we're thinking
    -Boy:Arthur
    -Girl: Alice

  • You guys I can't stop thinking about juniper if it's a girl. What do you think? (Our boy name is firm, a carryover from last go around)
My niece is Juniper Belle. I love the name and we all call her Junebug.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I love Juniper! Its so cute!
If we have a girl, her name will be Olivia. I have *always* loved that name and cannot part with it. Middle name probably Jordan. I am extremely close with my cousin Jordan. Her initials will be OJ and thats ridiculous but i dont care.
If we have a boy (which i have a gut feeling we will) DH loves the name Noah. So Noah Scott will be his name.

we already have a Mason Joshua.
  • baxgirl it is pretty, i would say it's pronounced judy (jude-y) i gave up on it though i'll come up with something simpler lol
  • We have a Johnathan (Jack) Xavier, an Eleanor Quinn, and a Samuel Wyatt.  Unintentionally, they all ended up with 3-syllable first names, so we're trying to keep with the pattern now.

My H and I both have uncommon names and didn't love it, so we wanted our kids to have "normal" first names and then went a bit off the beaten path for middle names.  We're pretty set on both names for this baby, though I'm waffling on our boy name a bit.

Girl - Margaret Claire (nn Molly or Maggie)
    Boy - Theodore James

I think my hang up with Theodore is nicknames.  I like Theo, Teddy, or TJ well enough but when I try to think of "adult" nicknames I go back to "Ted" and I don't love the name Ted.

Open to feedback on Theodore or suggestion on alternate 3-syllable boy names.  We have many Christophers and Benjamins in our family, so those are out of the running at this point.

  • So we're pretty set on Isabel but we were discussing today how we want to spell it. We ultimately decided on Isabel with one L instead of Isabell or Isabelle. My dh does not want anyone calling her Isabella or Bella after Twilight. I don't mind Isabella. But one without the le it doesn't seem right. What do you think?

a boy we have no idea! Last time we thought we were having a boy and it was so hoping we're right again.
  • @xath I think Theo is fine for an adult, no? Your kids' names are cute!

@morgarita I really like Isabel and all its spellings! When I see the spelling Isabel, I don't really have any thoughts of misspelling or anything. Sometimes that spelling can be Latino or Italian or whatever, but no more than Isabelle would be French.
  • @Xath looooove Theodore!!! And Theo! It's a family name for my sisters husband and subsequently soon to be my nephews name so we knew we could never use it but I absolutely love it.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • Love Theodore! My dogs name is Teddy or it would be in the running!
  • I'm going with Lukas Alexander Clark for a boy, and Juliana Sophia Marie for a girl.

  • So DH is a junior (technically, but it actually extends much further than that. I actually made a family tree on ancestry for both of us and literally every generation in his family has a male with his first name, and then a choice of a few middle names) so if we have a boy, it will be the third (insert eye roll) luckily it's not a bad name (James). But I am thinking his nickname will be Trip (triple) or Tre (like tres).

The silver lining of this is that I pretty much get free reign over girls names (not that I would pick a name he hated). I go two ways with girls names. I love traditional 'boys' names for girls (Charlee is at the top of my list) and I also love older names (I love Lenora - Lenny for short). So we will see.

side note: my sister (who is planning to adopt) randomly mentioned the other day that she wants to use the name Juniper for a girl. So cute. And it fits with her family because her two bio kids have unique names as well.

DS is Judah Paul and I absolutely love his name! We're love having biblical and family names so a boy name has been a little more difficult this time around.
We've narrowed to Malachi Jack or Levi Jack. But DH won't narrow from there because he thinks it's a girl.
Our girl name is Elliot Kaye. She will probably go by Elle or Ellie.
  • @Rae. Oh cool - I didn't realize Jr and III, etc. worked for just the first name - thought it was both first and middle. Nice to have a little flexibility in there
  • edited December 2016
@virginiaunicorn11 oh no, sorry my post might have been misleading. DH is a true JR (first and middle are the same as his father) and if we have a boy it will also have the same first and middle name as both of them. I would just probably fight it more if literally every man in his family didn't have his first same name. In my eyes, if we are going to use DH's first name, we might as well use the middle as well and make him the third.

  • DH is so unhelpful. He dismisses every suggestion and has none of his own.
If it's a girl I want to do Emmy (Emma was our second choice for DD and I just thought I'd give it a twist). If it's a boy, it better be a girl because I can't think of anything. We have to choose a name that works in 2 languages so it's very tricky. I'm sort of OK with Guy for a boy but one of our friends is named that so I'm reluctant. Maybe Thom?

I already have three daughters: Norelle, Liira, and Aveline. My husband gets to name our newest if it is a boy, but I need to figure out a name for a girl. I would like it to be unique, yet feminine. I am partial to Vienne right now, but I don't yet LOVE it. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.
Since you pick very unusual names maybe this will strike you... Lavendy. It's made up but inspired by the color lavender.

  • Dear Diary:

Last pregnancy, DH rejected my all-time favorite girl name. I compromised but didn't really like our girl name, so was super relieved we had a boy.

This time, I casually mentioned the name, and DH really likes it! It's our top girl name right now! I am so pumped, and just keeping my mouth shut about the irony. He clearly has zero recollection of any previous conversations about it.

He wants to find out the baby's sex, but I wanted to stay Team Green. Now I am ok with finding out, so we can lock in this name!
My husband did this too! Years ago I mentioned the name Alexander and he didnt like it at all. Last year before my miscarriage I brought the name up again and he LOVED it so much he said he didnt want to think about boy names anymore. Men are silly!

  • @DarkSerendipity Love your baby name choices! Probably because we used two of them already and a third is on my list.

I see a few moms are thinking of Penelope.  Wonder which of the nicknames are cute enough to age well: Pippa, Poppy, Lolo, Penny, Ellie, ... I can't imagine shortening the name really but it's so long it's bound to happen if we don't present an option.

My husband and I both think this baby is a boy though, so pretty girl names are probably out of the question.  Sigh...  Last time we didn't decide on a name until the day AFTER the baby was born!  We took a list to the hospital and wrote them on the whiteboard.  Figure we would get to know the baby first and see which name fit the scrunchy little face.
  • @satsumasandlemons I like it but I've never been one to worry about professional names. We have a Sigourney Marlene now, whom we call Ziggy pretty exclusively. This time around we're far from settled but I like the names
    - Winifred Ruth
    - Penelope Ruth
    - Lloyd Malcolm
    I love Winifred  <3
  • Genuine question: do I know an usual amount of adults with nicknames, or is this idea of names "ageing" just kind of overthinking it?

I get that names like Bobby would eventually turn into Bob, etc. But I feel like I work with and know so many people who use a nickname that these boards often say don't belong on a resume (e.g., Poppy). I can't tell if I am the odd one out, the world has changed, it's a select type of "name nerd" (that's not a criticism) that feels this way, etc.
