I had an idea for a thread but didn't want to start it if no one else was interested (or if it might be against the rules).

I imagine in a group this size that there is SOMEOME who has their own business - whether it be with a larger company (tupperware, nail wraps, essential oils) or maybe a cute Etsy store. I dislike a sales pitch as much as anyone, but I thought if people could post a link to their business and say what it is then others could browse at their leisure. I think it would be a great way to support our fellow moms.

(I, myself, have no such business... solely interested in shopping!)

I am open to the idea.. I love etsy! But I think it may be against the rules ?
  • Someone please help me with back pain.  This weekend it has gotten significantly worse.  It hurts in my lower back/butt area.  I've been taking tylenol and using a heating pad, I'm actually currently using one at work.  Nothing seems to help, all movement hurts, sitting, standing, anything. My husband sometimes massages me which helps in the moment, same with the tennis ball technique.  Prior to pregnancy, I've struggled with back pain.  Please don't tell me that I will have this horrid pain my WHOLE pregnancy.  Tips, suggestions, commiseration, anything well be welcomed.

@emilyalso I'd be fine with the idea, but I know none of the rules.
  • @Jen_Shoes have you thought about a chiropractor? There are many who specialize in prenatal techniques. I haven't gone yet this pregnancy, but it helped SO much with my first.
  • @Jen_Shoes Chiropractor for sure! I also swear by DoTerra's Deep Blue rub, instant relief!

  • I love the idea of posting business links! I'd tag a mod to ask them if its against the rules, but we know how well the respond to being tagged...Which has me thinking, will they notice if it is against the rules?

  • @Jen_Shoes this is going to sound weird but this is what my Chiropractor taught me.  Lay on your side and have you husband run his knuckle (with a pressure) down the outside of your leg.  When he finds a sore spot have him put more pressure on it, no matter how much it hurts it will start to ease up.  This apparently releases the muscles in your legs and butt and relieves pressure on both your spine.  Hopefully it will work for you, it does wonders for me.  You can use a tennis ball as well.  I tried to find the video he sent me but I can't.  I am attaching the closest thing I could find.  Just do what he is doing and keep going down the side of the leg.  I hope it helps you.  I has been a miracle for me.

  • I say do it! Post the thread and everybody that has a business can share what they do. Worst case, the mods take it down.

Meanwhile, i was checking The Weeknd tour dates and get this - there's a concert in Seattle *drumroll* on Apr 26th! My EDD is May 7th. I'm like "I'm not sure i'm comfortable with this". Doh.
  • @thistlenweeds you could be the person who ends up on the news having her baby at a concert  :D!
  • @Kipperoo Oh boy! Every time she mentions her diet, just start babbling on about pregnancy cravings/ aversions.

Haha...excellent plan! My normal coping strategy anytime something crazy comes out of her mouth is to take a sip of wine. DH and I have turned her visits (and some of our other challenging long distance family members) into somewhat of a drinking game...this time around, I will distract myself with my built in buffer (the toddler) and pregnancy chatter. Family, man...

  • @Jen_Shoes When I was talking to a nurse about my sciatic pain, she mentioned something you can sit on for lower back pain. I can't remember what it's called, but maybe someone at your OBGYN would know. It sounded like a common thing for pregnant women with back pain.
  • @thistlenweeds I saw George Strait at 8 months pregnant with DD. We were sitting in the nosebleeds. I think you should go! It's a good excuse to eat all of the junk food at the venue.
  • How are you ladies getting sleep? I am up at least every 2 hours flipping to the other side. I miss laying on my stomach sooooo much.

Secondly, a random, I finally got out my doppler and, after 20 minutes of searching, finally heard the baby's heartbeat. It was pretty exciting to find it just as I was about to give up.

  • I got an Angelsounds doppler at amazon.  At exactly 19 weeks, it took some time to find the heartbeat, but there it was in the end , without a doubt (fast, regular - unmistakeable).  Much better than doppler apps! Recommended!

  • @KMD1106 I only remember once in my life sleeping through the night. I am up many times in the night flipped from one side to another. Luckily, I'm awake just long enough to turn over then I'm back out. No insomnia or anything. My snoogle has helped me sleep more soundly, but the past few night have been hard. I just can't quite get comfortable enough.

  • @Jen_Shoes, I have a disk issue in my lower back that flares up sometimes, and it's really debilitating when it happens. It stems from being hit by a truck as a pedestrian a few years ago. I know that for me, heat actually makes it worse - my doctor told me to only use ice because heat inflames it more. I'm sure that's not true for all types of back pain, though. I hope you feel better soon! I wonder if you can get a cortisone shot when pregnant? Those things work miracles.

I know we were talking a lot about types of pregnancy pillows before, but question for the Snoogle users. Do you find that it offers enough support if your belly is on the open side? I'm debating Snoogle vs the Back N Belly (which wraps around both sides of you), and that's really the only thing making me lean towards the Back N Belly. I'm afraid the Snoogle won't be supportive enough.
  • @starphish18 when my belly got bigger to the point of needing support I just used my regular pillow on the open side. I think I had put it under the fitted sheet so it wouldn't move around too easily and I slept pretty with that set up. It was the getting out of bed part that was more difficult ha.

I need to wash my snoogle pillow case so I can start using it soon!

  • @starphish18 Hmm, I think so...I normally pull the bottom part of it up to high between my legs.

  • I always crave hot dogs when I'm pregnant. I choose to listen to the advice that says they're fine as long as they're heated all the way through. I just had one and it was super satisfying. I've only eaten them about 3 times since finding out I was pregnant, so I'm not going crazy with it!

  • @Jen_Shoes - I second the chiropractor, if you can. It made a world of difference for me with hip pain during my first pregnancy. I've been seeing one this time, too. I also used DoTerra Deep Blue, which I think I saw someone else recommend. Good luck!! Hope something starts to help.

  • @kns1988 that's too funny! Last pregnancy I had the worst craving for a Costco dog after not eating a hot dog in years! I tried ignoring it, but when I gave in it was so delish! The cravings are seriously no joke!

  • @KMD1106 I'm not sleeping either. I used to sleep with our cat snuggled up on one side and dh on the other, but lately I feel like a rotisserie chicken, rotating and overheated in the middle. And then there's the waking up thirsty or having to pee every few hours, and the nights with insomnia. I dread not being able to sleep on my stomach.

This is exactly me. Maybe I'll try my stomach again tonight after hearing others are still sleeping that way.

  • Speaking of not sleeping, has anyone dealt with a toddler who is having night terrors? My son has never been the best sleeper, but he is pretty verbal and when he's woken in the past can always tell me what he needs. Every night for the last 6 he's woken up screaming and flailing, and won't talk. He definitely doesn't respond to comforting and it sounds like night terrors from what I've read. I don't know what to do for him! Any advice or mamas who've been through something similar before?

Unfortunately there's not much you can do. Lay him back down and try to get him back to sleep. I remember DS going through these about a year ago and it's distressing but normal and eventually they grow out of them.
