I just had my NT scan and the doctor says everything looks good with baby. She did however mention that it looked like I might have placenta previa. She said that she didn't like to diagnose this early and that she would double check at around 18 weeks, but it definitely looked like I might have it. Has anyone had placenta previa before? Any info would be great as I start my research.
I've been avoiding the internet this week due to political overload, but this board is an oasis!
As for baby planning, I finally broke down and bought my first pair of maternity pants. I seriously hope they fit... I hate pants shopping, pregnant or not. #pants anxiety#
All the tips about cribs vs. bassinets vs. rnp vs. pnp are super helpful. Does anyone have experience with moses baskets? Like these: https://www.designdua.com/collections/baby? I like the idea that they can be used for toy storage or something after the baby gets too big.
@achays11 I had one with my first. It was diagnosed at 18 weeks mainly means no sex (no anything inside the vagina) and watch for bleeding. THey will rescan late 20 weeks to see if it moved. If it does move then you are fine for whatever kind of delivery you want. If not then they do a cs between 36-37 weeks. Mine had moved by 28 weeks and I had a fine vaginal delivery.

I had complete placenta previa with my DD. It was diagnosed at my anatomy scan at 20 weeks. I was put on complete pelvic rest. I was fortunate and never had any bleeds or complications. It resolved itself by 32 weeks (ish) and I was able to have a vaginal delivery. My suggestion is to stay away from Google because there are some scary stories out there and there is really nothing you can do one way or the other. Just make sure to follow any restrictions your doctor puts on you. Also, remember that if you do have it, most cases resolve themselves and most women are able to have vaginal deliveries. If it doesn't resolve itself, you will deliver via c-section. As long as you and baby are healthy in the end, that's really all that matters!
I love this crap, so I've done all kinds of prep. I have an Amazon registry started with the Halo sleeper, a rocker, diaper bag, etc. My husband and I have also started looking at strollers. I do an Amazon list every year for Christmas (family request) and I have maternity dresses, a robe, and some other things on there.
Before pregnancy I was sure I'd start baby off in the crib in the nursery. Then I got pregnant and realized I'm not going to want to traipse to the nursery every few hours to nurse. I registered for the Halo sleeper and now plan to have baby in our room until I got back to work (8-10 weeks).
We did get our crib in last week though and I put it together Sunday, I LOVE it! So excited to decorate.
Thanks @MrsFreeman2010, @Icarriedawatermelon, and @vrj0522! I appreciate the positive stories. I had an unplanned c-section with DD and I've read that a c-section could be one of the causes because of the scarring. We are probably going with a c-section for this one, but I haven't made a final decision yet. I'm just trying to prepare myself for what could be, knowing that it could be a false alarm or it could resolve itself.

Stuck in the box...I had early signs of placenta previa with my first, but it cleared itself up by 25 weeks. Try not to stress about it too much until the doctor tells you for sure!
I love this thread! I haven't done anything for baby prep but I can't wait to do the nursery. I'm just waiting to find out the sex, hopefully at my 20 week anatomy scan.
Thanks for the dock a tot suggestion, that is definitely going on my short list of things we need. We have basically everything from our first.
@RainyDays86 I've been in maternity pants since like 9 weeks. Ha! No shame. I've been bloated and my other pants just don't fit well.
I posted about this in my ticker thread but my bump/bloat is basically gone today. So weird! Anyone else have a lot of fluctuation? It's freaking me out a bit.
nda_roxybabe , I am seriously impressed that you've already got the crib up! The planner in my is super jealous. I'm hoping to get mine done by the end of the year, but hubs is in no hurry at all, so we'll see...also, love your crib choice!
@nda_roxybabe Love the crib! I have the same one, but in all walnut. Just a note, you will need teething guards for all the way around. One morning I woke up and my son had went after it like a beaver!
I have done very little to prep. I did order 8 bins and reorganized all the baby boy clothes and baby supplies along with my maternity clothes and postpartum supplies. That was so refreshing! I could actually find something if I needed! We have moved some of the items out of the bedroom DS will move into and we were gifted a slightly used twin mattress this week. Happy dance!!
What is the earliest you found out baby's sex in an u/s? I have one on Thursday to check on cyst. I'll be 13w 6d. Just curious is tech would make a guess that early.
With my first, he was CLEAR AS DAY a boy at 15 weeks on the nose, but I think it depends on the clarity of the ultrasound.
@clebl24 my sis in law found out my nephew was a boy clear as day with a potty shot at 12w. There's a whole nub theory that says it could have turned into a girl, but it didn't. I also found out without a doubt my son was a boy at 14w. I think it's harder if it's a girl, which doesn't help.
I always respond to people before I finish catching up, sorry about that! I'll keep editing as I read more comments.
I wanted to say, as far as planning, I don't really do any til the very end because I'm superstitious and don't want to jinx anything. My mom said she would order all the furniture and things and they would deliver it while she was in the hospital. Talk about last minute!
I refused having a sprinkle thing for my second because I thought it was tacky but I'm going to accept whatever anyone wants to do this time because I want SOME fanfare with this baby. Last time it's like we didn't celebrate it at all or whatever. Plus I gave away all my baby clothes because I was 100% sure we were done and will not turn away gifts at this point. But I wouldn't register.
For sleeping arrangements, I think you just dont know til they'll get here. I assumed I wouldn't want to shlep to the nursery but for my daughter I wanted to sit in that chair so I did. With my son we nursed in bed WAY MORE. Learn the side lie. It may be your BFF. Both used the rock n play til they grew out of it and the transition wasn't amazing with #2 but easy with #1. With my SIL, she transitioned both her kids to cribs like almost immediately and they started sleeping 10-12 hours when they moved to the crib. She makes magical sleepers so I don't know if it's related but I might try to move this guy to the crib sooner in case it works.
+1 for wanting to splurge on a Dock A Tote, I also has a friend who swears by them.
Damn, I'm in the box. I was looking at the dock a tot, but annoyed because they keep giving them away to youtube people and I don't know why that annoys me. I'm going to try the Leachco podster which is similar but half the price. My SIL swears by it.
@clebl24 - I had my NT scan at 13w2d and the tech was pretty confident it was a boy. There was definitely a boy-looking part clear as day. That said, both of my nephews were supposed to be nieces until the day they were born.
@chickyclg - it's probably the same reason they sell different numbers of hot dogs from hot dog buns in standard packages. Thanks a lot, Obama.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot lol wait, what? what does Obama have to do with hot dogs? Now I want a hot dog.
Just got back from the pedi with DS after day 3 of coughing and fever. He proceeded to happily tell his doctor that we were going to get "hash brownies" if he was a good boy. He meant hash browns. I was between being completely horrified to wanting to laugh hysterically.
@RainyDays86 Don't feel bad about being in maternity pants... I wore my skinny jeans that fit pre-pregnancy, and don't fit on the waist now (I posted a pic in HDBD wearing them with the use of a rubber band) and I am utterly miserable. Wearing these pants today was the worst choice ever. I have a stomach ache and I'm just uncomfortable, and today is my long day at work (11 hrs). Learn from my mistakes, comfort comes first. Leggings will be my new best friend.
Meh I think I may have the flu or something that feels like it. I was supposed to get my flu shot at my last appointment on 10/31 and somehow we all forgot so I never got it. Now I'm just kind of blah about that. I just shot them an email to let them know I've had a fever all day (max 101.3) and all these flu like symptoms in case they want me to come in and check on baby. I'm only sharing this because if anybody here hasn't gotten their flu shot yet please go do it asap.
@nda_roxybabe Love the crib! I have the same one, but in all walnut. Just a note, you will need teething guards for all the way around. One morning I woke up and my son had went after it like a beaver!

It will not let me tag you. I am so jealous! We really, really wanted the walnut, but it's sold out and I'm pretty sure its not coming back I even looked for it sold second hand. Thanks for the teething guard tip! I will do that.
@Kipperoo, Thank you! We're doing sort of an unusual "theme" and I wanted a more modern, but still basic looking crib. I went to school for interior design and that and organizing are my jam.
@pshaortao feel better ASAP! I'm wondering now if Tamiflu is approved in pregnant women. ....
ETA: its pregnancy category C. But in skimming the many studies referenced I didn't see many that even suggested that there were any adverse effects. Given the likelihood of influenza impacting health of mother and baby it's probably worth a discussion.
In the evening I tend to feel AWFUL-- nausea, body aches, headaches and chills, and I run a low fever, around 99.1. I sleep (kind of), or at least zone out in bed, until around 5:30am start feeling better, then actually sleep until my alarm for work at 7am.
It hasn't kept me from working at this point, and I don't have any symptoms of UTI, flu, infection, etc during the day, other than fatigue. I do still have morning sickness. Is this at all normal? My doctor is not good at getting back to me, so I'm kind of holding out for my appointment on the 21st. I can't spend all day calling the office over and over, which is what it takes to get a response.

STUCK IN THE BOX! What theme are you guys going for?? I love interior design. I think planning the nursery is the most exciting part of prepping for me. I prefer a more modern style that blends in with the rest of the house decor...my mom and grandma are horrified that we aren't going all pink and girly in her room...
@Kipperoo Are you familiar with Wes Anderson (Darjeeling Limited, Life Aquatic, Fantastic Mr. Fox...)? I love his movies, the way he films and the color schemes he uses are so appealing to me. SO, we're doing a "Wes Anderson" theme. Retro and modern elements mixed with colors from his palettes (reddish orange, mustard, green) and then stealing little things from his movies like, the wallpaper print in The Royal Tenenbaums will be the print we use for the crib sheet. We're team green so I love that it's gender neutral.
Thanks all for the sweet words, I really appreciate it! I feel quite a bit better this morning so far and hope it stays that way. DD has been such a cuddle bug which is just what I need. I emailed my midwife last night and this is her response: " If you continue to have a high fever and flu like symptoms (nausea/vomiting/chills etc) I would advise you to go to urgent care in the morning. They can do a rapid flu swab and prescribe Tamiflu if its indicated."
@ShadeofGreen816 I hope that answers your question regarding tamiflu! I plan to get the shot at my next appointment just to play it safe, in case what I had was something else was more of a 24-48 hr bug.

@Wildflowers and Ferns Pfft I fail at quoting these days. I think 99 is normal in my opinion, but I'm not a doctor so take it with a grain of salt. I've checked my temperature a couple times in the last few weeks and it's usually around 99 and I feel perfectly fine. Has this been ongoing though or is it more recent? I would be more concerned by the other symptoms than anything else, especially aches and chills.
I hope you hear back from your doctor soon and get some answers, or that your symptoms lessen!
We've done some prep since we are so excited (first baby)! Talked about names and put some stuff on a registry, mainly to save it haha, and talked about some themes for the nursery even though we have no idea where we will be when we need to start putting it together! We have to move by the end of March and we are due in May! Yay...
So, I do have a question because I can't remember what the u/s tech said...we are going to find out the sex of the baby early and I remember talking about that appointment and the 20 week one where they measure everything! She said something about eating before going and I can't remember which one...guessing the 20 week one because it takes so long and maybe baby cooperates more if I've eaten...? Any thoughts?!

@nda_roxybabe I saw that they do not carry the all walnut now. Very sad because I would probably just buy another one this time. I refinished a mid-century dresser to go in my nursery last time that perfectly matches the crib, same legs and everything. Also, after hearing your theme I may have a crush on you. His color combinations are breathtaking! Can't wait to see photos of what you do with your theme!

Haha! Thank you, we're really excited about it. I wanted to find a mid century dresser, but going with the "natural" makes that a little harder. Then I was going to find a refurbished vintage, but the drawers on most of those suck. Sooo...we're going with the Ikea Hemnes (we have in our room) in reddish orange. It at least matches the color scheme and I think the clean symmetrical lines work.
