  • Midwife appt on Wednesday. Hopefully she calls me by the right name this time! Also meeting a second doula on tues so we can decide between the ones we've met!

  • Wifey's dad comes 11/15   We have appt on Wednsday 11/16 for our 2 weeks checkup!

  • I see my OB Wednesday. He'll do another swab to check for amniotic fluid and see if my cervix is dilated. I might be getting another strep swab too because my last one was a few weeks ago when I was admitted the hospital (it was negative).
  • OB on Thursday.  I'm planning on turning in my hospital admittance paperwork before my appointment too, I can't believe I'm at this point.

  • Growth ultrasound and doc appt today. Can't wait to see the baby :)

  • @christac1010 good luck! why are they checking for amniotic fluid?

@hayhay87 she called you by the wrong name? not super comforting.

I have an appointment Friday at 30 weeks. I don't know what they're planning, likely just checking my cervix again. But I'm not sure I want that, because it makes me contract like crazy for the next two days and could introduce bacteria i don't really want in there. i don't want to seem like a pain and refuse things (like how i refused my 4th syphilis screen... seriously, it doesn't need to be a part of each order set each time they check blood).
  • I have my routine OB appointment today, and tomorrow I have a growth scan, which is really making me anxious because if he hasn't grown they will admit me and then Wednesday they would deliver him.   If everything goes okay on Tuesday I have an NST and Biophysical on Friday.

  • Ultrasound tomorrow to see if my placenta has moved up. Hoping it has and that we will get to see her for a little bit. Right after that is just a regular OB appointment.
  • 30-wk appt on Wednesday with OB.

@Ashleybrandon1990 oh wow!  That is nerve wracking.  Here's hoping that babe is growing a lot!
  • @Litzi My OB checks as a precaution. He's monitoring me closely because of the contractions. It's an easy swab (not one of the awful cervix poking ones) and the swab turns colors on the spot if amniotic fluid is present. I think once I hit 34 weeks (next week), he'll be more relaxed - as will I! Also good luck at your appointment! I don't blame you for not wanting your cervix checked. I know it's important but it's the flipping worst.

@Ashleybrandon1990 The nerves of waiting get me every time. How far are you now? Good luck and please keep us updated!
  • @lindsladle15 Thank you!

@christac1010 Thank you! I'm 30 weeks today, he had some decels in his heart rate 2 weeks ago and they thought they where going to have to take him then, so I'm definitely happy to be 30 weeks now.  Good luck on your appointment on Wednesday, the waiting game sucks!

  • @litzi haha yea. I'm having my baby in England on the national health service so I can't pick my midwife, but it was pretty bad! I mean care wise she's doing everything she needs to do but I thought after all our appts she'd remember my name. It was definitely the moment that made me start thinking about getting a doula...

  • @Ashleybrandon1990 fingers crossed he grew and can keep cooking.

  • I had an NST today and I'll have one again on Friday. Everything looked good today. @litzi I would probably decline the check as well unless your doctor thinks there's some medically necessary reason to do it at this point. The last time I got checked, which was about 2.5 weeks ago, it caused uterine irritability and my cervix is already soft. My doc isn't checking mine again I don't think until we hit (hopefully) 36 weeks or later. Fingers crossed! Let us know how it goes.

good luck @ashleybrandon1990! Do they have any idea why he might not be growing?

@christac1010 glad you're still hanging in there! We are on the same schedule :) 34 weeks next week. We can do this!!! Everyday counts.
  • Thinking of you @Ashleybrandon1990!!

on Wednesday I have my monthly Centering Pregnancy appointment, I think this visit will include a tour of the L&D ward, yay! Oddly enough I'm still not scheduled for bi weekly appointments, though most of you ladies seem to be transitioning into them...

Tonight we took a breastfeeding class. It was a bit longer than necessary but the Q&A was really good. And practicing with the dolls was surprisingly helpful, too! I think it was most useful for my husband, actually. It really struck him how often babies need to feed for the first few months, and what a toll it can take on us. Hopefully we'll manage without completely falling to pieces!
  • @ashanne88 Thank you!

@LoneStar21416 Thank you! They said he has IUGR that's linked to my bicornuate uterus.

    @MaryNog Thank you!

  • @Ashleybrandon1990 Yay! Happy to hear that! Grow, baby, grow!

I have a midwife appt on Thursday. I had my rhogam shot at my last appt and my glucose test the one before that so I don't have anything else scheduled. I'm going to ask about my weight because after gaining 25 pounds super fast (as mentioned in other posts), I've actually lost 2-3 pounds since my appointment two weeks ago, after not having gained any weight from my appt two weeks prior to that. That would mean 4 weeks with a net weight loss of 2-3 pounds. I'm sure all is well because I gained so much so quickly and my midwife said I looked great (blood also looked good and baby heart rate was right on track) but I want to be reassured. And don't get me wrong - I have definitely been eating! I scarfed down two pieces of left over fried chicken and half a waffle for lunch...annnnnnnd I'm already hungry again! <3

I have the appointment this week and then an appointment in 2 weeks - after that I go in weekly! We're getting down to the wire, ladies!

  • Had our normal OB appointment on Monday. My BP is starting to slowly creep up but they aren't concerned. I've been trying to stress to them that yes, 109/70 is awesome but for someone who is usually about 90/60, it's something to keep an eye on. I keep asking about positioning but I keep getting the same answer, "Oh she still has plenty of time to flip if she isn't already." Wonderful but it would be nice to know where we stand right now.
Oh well. Baby is perfect and that's all that matters.

  • No appointment but got my lab results back from my anemia panel they did last week. My iron is still very low. I now need to take the supplement 3x a day instead of the 2 they started me on. Bring on the constipation lol. They said it appears to be pregnancy related since it's never been an issue before now, but to still let my primary know and follow up with them after the baby is born.

  • I had my Flu and TDAP shots today. I had the joys of a rarer side effect (diarrhea) so that sucks.

I also found it strange that in Canada they only let you get TDAP once as an adult. They must believe in longer immunity here, because I was always told it wore off over time. If they see on your record that you had one already as an adult (considered a booster of the one you get at age 12) they won't even let you get another one. Also they said it was more common to get it after the baby is born in postpartum than during the 3rd trimester, but I always thought getting it while pregnant meant it could help build some immunity in the baby.

I honestly feel like this stuff isn't researched enough. They need to figure out best practice and back it with sound scientific evidence because right now I am not sure what to believe.

  • @TinaBelcher Thank you! FX that baby A flips head down!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @Ashleybrandon1990 thats great! hopefully it says that way!

@MamaandNurse i always want to know position, too. if they don't know, they should just say that! my bp fluctuates around there, too (got as low as the 70's in the hospital at rest). just depends on my activity and fluid status.

sarahmsoda my ob gives them in the third trimester for the baby's immunity. otherwise after the tdap once we give a td every 10 years (or sooner if injury or something).  https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/adult.html

LoneStar21416 thats great with the nst! i think i'll decline the cervical check. it wouldn't change management, assuming its not like 5cm dilated, which it wouldn't be. just means the appointment will kinda be a waste of time because nothing will be done at all, but thats ok.
  • @MamaandNurse My OB tells me every appointment what the positioning is (and my guesses are usually right) because its a part of every prenatal appointment. She even points out here is the head, back and butt. I find it strange your doctor doesn't chart it every time and let you know! My baby has been head down since 20 weeks so I am definitely hoping he stays that way!

  • @TinaBelcher Glad everything went so well!! Come on and flip baby A.  Will your OB let you try for vaginal delivery if A is down no matter what B is doing?  I know two in my practice will but I'm not sure about the other 3.

  • @sarahmsoda I really find it strange too. With my first, my midwife always let me know where baby was laying once we got to about 28ish weeks. I'm not very impressed with this OB. My appts are literally two minutes long, just BP, fundal height, and listening to the heartbeat. I always feel very rushed and he basically has his hand on the door for the entire appt. Oh well. I'm not changing it now.

  • @ashanne88 so my B is now the presenting twin, but we're keeping the labels because "B" is the one with the heart defect and they're the same size so far- I'd like to not mix them up lol!! Presenting twin is head down so 3 of the 6 docs in my practice will let us try for vaginal, one of those is totally ok with turning her after B's out and I'm pretty certain another is too but he's newer to the practice and won't actually say anything that doesn't strictly follow practice policy  ;)  I would really prefer that the little punk flip for good instead of going frank-complete-frank-complete all the time- nice dance moves girlfriend but FLIP OVER PLEASE! Ha

Ah got it.  I'm so fearful of mixing them up too!  Lol.  My B has been all over the place and will literally flip from one appointment to the next.  A has been head down for a while and at this point is pretty buried in my cervix.  I've been told they'll either flip B or deliver breech.  Fingers crossed for both of us then that it all works out!

  • Had an appt yesterday. Starting the weekly visits with ultrasounds! Had our family baby shower this past Saturday. Friends baby shower is this coming Saturday. Had to split it up because I had 2 people offer to throw showers but they didn't want to co-host so I broke it up that way. Almost to Thanksgiving break! I'm glad I work at a school so I have breaks in there at the end I really need them!

  • Had my appointment today - rushed as my midwife was out sick so they had to squeeze a bunch of appts with another midwife. Haven't gained any weight in 4 weeks. I thought I was going to be down 2-3 pounds but my docs scale had me at half a pound under what I was last time. I meant to ask about my weight but they didn't weigh me until after I met with midwife (like I said they were rushing around today).

  • christac1010 thanks for letting me know! it makes me feel like declining a check is a reasonable option. i'm so excited you're almost to 34 weeks. its amazing, i'm sure you feel amazing about it! it still seems forever away at this point.
  • Great, @litzi! You are doing awesome!

I'm having a lot of (what I would consider) more thin/fine and watery discharge. It looked much thicker earlier in the pregnancy. I mentioned it today and based on how much it is, they're not concerned. Also had my fluid levels checked and they're normal. NST went well. Hoping for an uneventful weekend for everyone :)
  • @Litzi So glad to hear your rupture test was negative! Getting cervical checks this early is not fun, good they didn't find that necessary either!

Had my 33-week check-in today. Was very boring. I whined about lack of weight gain and OB (yet again) reassured me that I was fine--"I gave you a pretty broad range for weight gain, upwards of 30 pounds based on your pre-pregnancy weight but some women just don't gain that much weight... consider yourself lucky, you're measuring exactly where you should be fundal height-wise." *shrug* I still am wondering how this kid is healthy if I haven't gained any weight in 6 weeks.
  • @Litzi So happy for you! Hopefully you have a very boring, uneventful next few weeks!

So I ended up in L&D today for a NST after I fell down the stairs. Like a dummy, I totally forgot to tell her I've been contracting regularly since 30 weeks. Once we talked, she knew more of what she was looking for and everything checked out fine, including my cervix still being closed. I was also checked out in the ED and I have a bad ankle sprain. I have a stupid giant walking boot for a few weeks now and a follow up with my doctor soon.
