Yikes! This board has been eerily quiet the past week. What's everyone up to this week, baby-prep wise?
I've created an Amazon wishlist to share with family members as holiday gift ideas (since I am adamantly against a shower for this second child). AND still at odds over a name for this baby. Naming her seems literally impossible.
I plan to spend my downtime at work this week thinking about paint colors. My mom and sister are coming in town for Christmas and are SUPER excited about helping me set up the nursery. I'm definitely not turning down the help because decorating is not DH's strong suit. Plus, the planner in me wants this done like yesterday so that I don't have to think about it for the rest of the pregnancy. :-)
I haven't wanted to think about registries and all that yet. It seems too daunting... I don't know anything, so I'm going to have to do a lot of research beforehand, and I just haven't wanted to get into it with my lack of motivation lately. I'm hoping I'll be ready after the holidays.
I can't even think of any gift ideas for myself to give to my family. Anyone have ideas for things that would just be really nice for a pregnant woman? Or fun things that no one needs but are great to have? I don't feel like I need anything right now.
I agree it has been quieter than usual. I hope thats not ongoing! Ive been lurking more than participating in the last week only because DD and I have been visiting my parents gor over a week now. We fly back home tomorrow so we will get back to our new normal. Except its time for us to find a 2nd car for DH, start the process of meeting with a couple realtors and lendors before we begin our house hunt etc. I'm pretty excited and stressed bout it all at the same time. I really do hope we find something sooner than later so we can have morr time to get moved in and make it home before this one comes!
I think this may belong here. Didn't want to give it it's own post. This is baby #3 and boy #3. My mom and sister want to give me a shower. I had one for my first 4.5 years ago and they think everything is worn and it would be nice to do. I fought it but they insist. I'm sure it'll be a great day celebrating our new son. What shocked me is that my incredibly tactful and classy mom wanted me to register and when I said absolutely not she seemed annoyed and asked how people are going to know what I need. I told her that there is no way I'm registering and she dropped it. But I couldn't believe she expected that!
For baby prep we haven't done anything except buy a pair of blue baby shoes and a little stuffed animal to take the photos I want for our Holiday card announcement. I figured I'll wait until we are back from vacation in January to start a registry and go make sure the furniture I love is good with DH. We also need to have someone come in and get the room ready for a nursery - remove a few built in's, paint, etc.
Does anyone else hate the idea of announcing to family or of having a shower? I'm probably just weird but I hate all of the comments I know we will get as soon as we tell family and I hate trying to put together a guest list for a shower, I always feel like people are going to get an invite and be like "why did I get invited to this....."
@starphish18 you want gift certificates for prenatal massages. Really. You do!
@MTB16 don't feel pressured to have a shower if you don't want to. I thought it would be too inconvenient for my spread out family and friends and the idea just felt SO awkward so I opted not to have one. It took some convincing but my family got on board.
It has seemed quieter... Maybe because Thanksgiving is approaching?
I've done no baby prep whatsoever. Idk where I'm going to put the baby. I'm putting that off for way later.
My my current issue is I feel fat. I've definitely grown, my DH noticed I was bigger, and although he's been critical in the past of how I looked, he didn't say anything negative. I don't have a bump. I just feel like the small bulge I did have is just larger. I just can't wait to look and feel pregnant and not just fat.
@starphish18 I asked for some new maternity/nursing pajamas. With my first, I mostly stole my husband's shirts to sleep in, but I felt so frumpy on maternity leave. I want something cute! I also asked my husband for a gift certificate for a massage or facial...just a little something to help relax once I'm big and uncomfortable. @mamatowildones - 3 boys sounds like so much fun!! I was not-so-secretly hopingg for another boy. I loved the idea of 2 boys close in age. It's really sweet of your mom to throw you another shower! I understand the gift thing though. I've refused a shower this time, mainly because I don't want to seem like a grabby gift seeker and my mom is having a hard time accepting that!

Me too on the feeling pudgy than pregnant. My family have already touched my blump and I'm like baby is still way down here, you're just touching my pooch. No way in hell Im going to be the only one feeling awkward. But at the same time I see it as the uterus pushing up, and pushing the organs up and making it look like we ate way too much.
Anyways I'm glad your DH has kept his mouth shut. Mine has admitted that he has noticed I'm getting thicker (after I asked) but said he knew better not to comment.
@starphish18 I'm definitely following for gift ideas. My inlaws always want a list and I never know what to say!
I, too, have been mostly lurking lately. School has been super busy and will continue to be so for about 4 more weeks. I have 5 days in a row this week where I'll be out of the house 12+ hrs/day. Under normal circumstances, this would be just a long week, but with the fatigue I've got going on, I'm pretty nervous about how awful I'm going to feel by Friday.
DH & DD are on their way to grab Outback. I saw an ad for a Bloomin Onion and I had to have it. Haha.
I'm so annoyed. My ILs aren't coming for Thanksgiving anymore, my DH called to tell them to get more details and his Mom was like "we can't come anymore..." I mean whatever, but now I have to ship their gifts and that's so annoying and expensive. They were supposed to take Christmas gifts back to the siblings, now I pretty much end up paying for shopping twice. Boo.
On the bonus side though, I'm now making Hibachi for Thanksgiving.
I haven't wanted to think about registries and all that yet. It seems too daunting... I don't know anything, so I'm going to have to do a lot of research beforehand, and I just haven't wanted to get into it with my lack of motivation lately. I'm hoping I'll be ready after the holidays.

A really nice diaper bag! Depending on your style they can be expensive. Vera, Kate Spade, Timi & Leslie. Even basic ones from Target can be around $40.
A pair of Uggs. I lived in my fake Uggs while pregnant last time.
A nice planner! There are going to be so many appointments next year between our appoints/birth + baby appointments. I used my planner so much the year I had DD. Erin Condren is the best, I am going to try out a Lily Pulitzer planner this year.

I totally get it, BUT I registered at Target and Amazon for the completion coupons. Don't do anything you're not comfortable doing, though.

I know it goes without saying, but you're growing a baby! Right now is the awkward stage and our bumps are still forming, but I'm sure you look great. Try not to be too bummed, and I'm glad your DH has kept his mouth shut.
@MTB16 - I'm right there with you. I felt so uncomfortable announcing to everyone. I definitely don't want a traditional shower. No games! If we didn't need help getting everything we needed, I probably wouldn't have one.
I have done little to no baby prep. I started to crochet a blanket but since this is #3 we really don't need anything. DH is wanting to paint the nursery but we can wait on that.
I'm also in the feeling pudgy group, but at least its a little obvious that it's pregnancy weight. A month it just looked like I stopped working out completely.
I'm sort of annoyed with my OB. My BP is always high when I first go in because I'm always nervous. At the end of the appointment they take it again, and it's always good. Right when I found out I was pregnant, I went in to make sure my BP was ok. They did a series of BP readings and it was perfect. Fast forward to last Monday, it was exactly as I predicted and my OB wants me to go in to family medicine again. I know he's just trying to be proactive, and I don't want to risk it with BP, but I'm just annoyed that I have to go in again when I just got this checked out. So off I go tomorrow to have my BP checked in a series again...

I've done zero baby prep. On the plus side, because we already have a boy and DD's room is mostly set up already, the transition from the nursery to her room shouldn't be too difficult. We are also down two 2 maybe 3 potential first names and already have the mn picked out, which is a lot to say for us. With our first two, it took until I was in the last month or so before we were able to decide.
I feel like life has been crazy the last week or two, although I can't pinpoint it to anything specific. I've been running around all the time.

DS has a cough and a fever, so there hasn't been much sleep in the Moshi household. I'm hoping it passes soon and that I don't get it.
I haven't done much to prepare for the baby, but we did move DS to a big boy bed, so I've got all the furniture for the nursery.
I am also feeling more fat than pregnant lately. I think it's mostly because I don't feel like any of my clothes are very flattering and maternity clothes are still a little big. I remember feeling this way last time too, so I can't wait until I get an actual bump.
I haven't wanted to think about registries and all that yet. It seems too daunting... I don't know anything, so I'm going to have to do a lot of research beforehand, and I just haven't wanted to get into it with my lack of motivation lately. I'm hoping I'll be ready after the holidays.

@ShadeofGreen816 I loved my pregnancy pillow called snoogle. I think I had ordered it through target.com since it was cheaper than amazon on the time. Then when my bump got bigger, I used my regular pillow to "support" my belly and I slept fairly well with that setup, as well as I could, in the last month.
@LilMissCrafty how did your announcement end up going in the end?
What are you thinking/hoping for a shower? I could get behind one that involved DH, mimosas and whiskey flights, and no games, but I'm doubting my mother will be on board and I'll have to push to skip one all together.
My only baby prep is that I have most of everything in one room, now that one room is a tad bit of a disaster, but most of everything is there. We will definitely get our butts in gear after the holidays/ January birthday season.
Now I'm trying to debate what I want to splurge on and what I want to replace, like I know I really want a Halo bassinet to replace the RNPs that we won't be overnight using this time.
Also what's the rule on bottle nipples, I EP'd for 4 months and primarily 4 oz bottles and then only used occasionally used the 9oz after that, replace or no need? And if I need to replace what is the go to amount, I way over bought last time.
As far as baby prep I have made a list of what I'd like to get done in the second trimester and also what has to be done in early third trimester (cleaning&organizing). I have also made a list of what we'll need for this baby. DH and I will be able to do more prep work once we know if this baby is a boy or girl!
Do any of you ladies have the boppy body pillow? It looks great and I'm really considering getting it!
@MTB16 It went good. We had a huge family gathering this weekend, which is why I was nervous. I think my family knows me better than I thought. A few congratulations but mostly no fuss, which is want I wanted. I also announced it on Facebook. Was hesitant, but I work with the alcohol industry and needed my industry peers to know why I hadn't been showing up to their bars.
You just described my dream shower. I'll have to remember the whiskey flights. Mine, however, will be sans hubby. He hates social events. So I'd owe him big time asking him to attend.

Nipples and pacifiers have to he replaced as they break down over time and become a choking hazard. If you are planning to breastfeed, I stuck with the slowest flow (newborn?) the entire first year.
Literally done nothing so far for baby #2. I'm not even going to consider names until I know what we're going to have. It's hard enough for us to agree on one name, let alone two. The room the baby will go in is a disaster and needs a lot of work to clear it out so we can use it. I haven't done anything to transition our toddler out of the crib or wean him. I haven't really thought about what items I'll need for a second kid yet. Maybe I'll get around to these things around March? ha!

@starphish18 After tons of research, I ordered the Bump Nest Pregnancy Pillow. The pillow case is super easy to change (something that is not the case with most pregnancy pillows). The company even sends a matching beanie (same as pillow case) for your baby!

Thanks, now I'm wondering why Avent sells bottles in 3 packs but nipples in 2 packs besides to annoy people like me. And I also might cry a little that my Calma nipples won't work, those suckers were expensive.
lol prepping for baby? Maybe in April I'll go through kiddo's old clothes but that's all I have planned. Might buy a flat bassinet because getting my first kid used to a flat surface after the RNP was a nightmare.
Most everything else baby room wise I figure ill get after we move in July.
Also I am a huge snoogle fan. They now make covers with a long zipper along the back so changing them is easy. I already busted one out.

Tell me more about your experience with the RNP...with #1, we had a flat bassinet that he barely used. He slept in his glider (yes, spare me the judgement) for the first 5 weeks of his life in our room, then we moved him to his crib with little drama. This go around, I was considering the RNP for our room (because it's smaller than the flat bassinet we have), but hearing that the transition sucked makes me second guess...
@Kipperoo DD actually had no issues transferring from RNP to flat crib - She kept trying to roll over in the RNP so we had to move her. I think she was happy not to be stuck in a little spot and had the whole crib to roll around in. For #2, not sure if we'll do RNP or crib - I guess it depends on if he/she has acid reflux. That's why we went with RNP instead of a bassinet or halo
I'm a huge fan of the snoogle maternity pillow, but keep in mind that it's pretty big if you don't have a king size bed.
DS slept in RNP in our room for first 3 months and transitioning to the crib was difficult. But he still isn't a good sleeper and never slept well in the crib (so I don't necessarily think the RNP is to blame). He's 2 and sleeps on a queen size mattress on the floor in his room and I usually end up with him before the night is over.
As far as baby prep goes, I've done nothing. We probably won't know sex until January so it makes it difficult to plan a nursery. I do need to purge an entire room and closet so we have a place for baby and baby's stuff. I should probably get on that ASAP.
What is the earliest you found out baby's sex in an u/s? I have one on Thursday to check on cyst. I'll be 13w 6d. Just curious is tech would make a guess that early.
@Kipperoo I don't think our experience was at all normal but... I had a horrific sleeper. He was colicky and had reflux and didn't sleep more than 90 minute stretches for about 4 months. The RNP incline helped with the reflux and he seemed to do much better in snug spaces. I'm talking tight Velcro swaddle and the confinement of the RNP.
So moving from that THAT to a flat surface and an open one at that was not fun. I will say it only took about a week but it was a long week. It also made it hard for him to sleep at daycare because he wasn't used to the crib and they won't let them sleep anywhere else.
Min hindsight I did what I had to do but moving forward with a new baby I really want to see if I can avoid it.
Thete afe also also concerns about the RNP causing a flat spot but we never had that problem. I think someone here did have that issue though and could speak to it more.
@Kipperoo - DS slept in the RNP until around 5 months and napped in in a little longer than that. It was GREAT to have in our room, and he seemed to really like it. We transitioned him in stages like... turned off the rock feature and just let him sleep in it with it still, moved the RNP to his room, and finally started putting him in his crib. I will say I wish we had moved him to the crib a little sooner - I think it would have made the transition easier.
@Kipperoo- DD had reflux, so she slept in the rnp until she started rolling in it. When we moved her to the crib, we had to elevate it. The transition was rough. I'm hoping to keep this one in the PnP bassinet instead of the rnp, but we'll see how it goes.

Most everything else baby room wise I figure ill get after we move in July.
Also I am a huge snoogle fan. They now make covers with a long zipper along the back so changing them is easy. I already busted one out.
