Re: Randoms - Week of November 7th

  • Hello ladies, Ive got a random.

As some of you might know already.
My little girl was born on 1st October.
I had a fast, very intense labour (from zero to full on in 5 hours)

What I didn't know, which was probably due to living between countries and not having one midwife, was how a placenta gets out...
I thought it would just come out...well if you are lucky it does, if you are the miority you actually have to push this one out too.
Like I had noooo idea and was very confused as I honestly thought I was finished and didn't understand why I had to start pushing again and why someone was pushing full weight on my stomach.
For me it ended up being removed surgically as it was stuck (I didn't know that was even an option...only a tiny percentage has this, so not common thank god).

Most might know about the above, but as I didn't I wanted to give a little heads up that the placenta probably require a little (or a lot of) extra pushwork after your LO is born.

  • @tvh1982 congrats again. Unfortunately I won't have to worry about pushing anything c section it is and should be setting date up at next OB appointment I hope. I'm praying they give me a date before Christmas not sure how it works since this is my first time.
  • @tvh1982 Oh my! I don't know how I missed your news! Congratulations! And thanks for the heads up on the placenta. I have heard it is a little extra not-fun part of labor. Hugs and love for you both!

  • @tvh1982 Congrats on your baby girl! This is my second baby, so I know what you're talking about. With my first they had to push so hard on my abdomen to assist in the placenta delivery that I had these massive bruises on my stomach. The next day my husband went out to get food and nurses, a doctor and a social worker came in to question me about domestic violence because they had noticed the bruises when doing a check-up on how much I was bleeding etc. I was like, "No! Those are from my delivery nurse!". Obviously, nice that they would ask, but seriously that's how hard they were pushing on my abs.
  • That's hard indeed @bornready
As mine was stuck I also almost got a whole hand in there, I can tell you I was not amused.

Lets cross our fingers for a before Xmas date @ultratomato!

Thank you @dragonfaerie. So many places to look for news on here
Ill stick around a wee bit as I want to see all the wee ones of you ladies.

  • @tvh1982 ah I'm so sorry you were taken by surprise with having to push the placenta out . I feel like nobody ever talks about that .. I only heard about it recently and was like wtf I thought I was done after the baby was out ?!!!

Im loving the pics of little Pia , she is truly beautiful !!!

  • @tvh1982 I am sorry to hear that, I have read it in the book but did not know it would be a hard push. I have heard that they sometimes give pitocin to help the uterus push the placenta after you give birth. I think I would like that :)

  • Does anyone know if there is a benefit to having 2 medical insurances??

I have insurance through my employer, which I switched back to once my husband changed jobs, and now they have me on his work insurance as well. I was just wondering if there is any benefit to paying for both policies or should one do the trick?

  • I did get pitocin (or Seth like that) too @zoefer. In both my legs. Quite painful shots I must admit.
I just learned today that my umbilical cord had loosened from the placenta too when they tried to help me by pulling it out.

Again, mine was extreme unlucky and was stuck, but it does involve some extra work/pushes for most women.

Thank you @mskeenan, I'm so in love with my little pixie

  • @AandDM2014 Yeah both our jobs offer coverage for a reasonable rate since they cover most of it, so we were toying with it BUT the more that I read the more of a pain it appears going through both.  I think my bosses are going to kill me for switching over again, I just went on my work insurance a month ago but am going back onto my husbands because it has slightly better coverage

I know some people do it when coverage runs out on their own policies.

  • @ADRIANAC1982 Having two insurances (being 'double covered') is awesome if you can make it happen.  What usually happens is that one is your primary insurance and pays for things, and the second one pays all the copays/out of pocket/deductibles that you would have had to pay if you just had the primary insurance.  My sister was double covered when she had her kids and paid zero out of pocket.  My husband and I were hoping to do this, but we both work for the state of WA and they have a rule preventing state workers from using double coverage.  Talk with your insurance companies, but it can be a really great thing to be double covered.

  • Agreed with pp it all depends on if you have copays vs a high deductible plan. Dh and I both have deductible plans where as individual you have to pay $1,500 before insurance kicks in or $3,000 if you are you plus family. So it doesn't make sense for him to go on my insurance since he never goes to the dr and I do. I rather have a lower deductible.
  • @ADRIANAC1982 I have 2 insurances. I was always covered under DH and declined mine, but he works for a national company, and they can choose any state to elect coverage from. So they chose BCBS of Alabama. We live in Illinois. BCBS of Alabama offers 8k in infertility coverage. So I elected to pick up BCBS of Illinois from work, for just me. I have not paid a copay or anything out of pocket since Oct. 2014. My primary pays the majority and his secondary covers any remaining balance. If your jobs offer both at reasonable rates, keep both! It's definitely a luxury not many people are afforded.

  • Dang I'm jealous of you ladies who have multiple options for health coverage! DH doesn't get any at work as his company employs less than 15 people, so we're fully OOP on a plan that currently costs about $200 a month for me. I have copays and a deductible, and I thought they were semi reasonable, but not after seeing what y'all have! I guess that's what happens when you live in California. I'm assuming that I'll pay the full family deductible next year at birth time, but I have to call to see if me switching to a different, high plan is better.

  • Hi ladies! I'm lurking from the Trouble TTC boards. After 2.5 years of IF, three failed IUIs and three failed IVFs, I'm in the TWW of my first FET. We transferred 3 day-3 embryos 7 days ago and this evening I couldn't help myself and POAS. Here it is! It was visible within 5 mins, but this photo was at 8 minutes. Looks like a bfp, right?????

I figured the Trouble TTC board wasn't the right place to ask, but what do I do now?? We've never gotten this far! I was planning to test again tomorrow morning and if it's bfp again, to call my nurse to ask about a beta test. Does that sound right? Cautiously excited....
  • Awwwwwwwww congrats @iloverocksalot I would try to call your RE for an early blood draw! Or if you can wait it out, try to do so.

Each day it should get darker so if you have to wait POAS and ull see the line darkening

  • I'm stopping shots this week.... finally (I can't wait!)..... but have to admit a little nervous. Did anyone experience a change in symptoms when they stopped them? just wondering what I can expect.

Also, speaking of random topics and symptoms, anyone NOT experience the need to pee more? I really don't notice a difference. and I'm drinking a lot. I think it's odd....

  • @MelD17011 I actually experienced an increase in nausea when I stopped Crinone, which I can't explain. As far as needing to pee more, I haven't experienced that either and didn't with my first pregnancy either until the very end.
  • @MelD17011 I experienced a little bit more nausea for about a week after stopping meds, and then things balanced out. I also only recently have really started to need to go to the bathroom more.

  • @ultratomato mine is confusing too. I have an hr dept who will assist but they haven't given me any information on what happens if I'm taken out of work prior to delivery. All the info is for after.

  • @ADRIANAC1982 Sorry, that sounds so stressful. I hope everything worked out OK. Keep us posted.
  • @ADRIANAC1982 Oh no, I'm sorry you've had a bleeding scare. I agree that we ladies need to drink up!

@kelrauh Oh wow, that sounds bad! I hope your OB has a suggestion for you. I had asked about hip pain, but I haven't really found anything to help. I tried doing some stretches, but they were quite awkward and did nothing.

  • @adrianac1982 - hoping all of your tests come back ok! So scary but glad everything seems to be ok with you & baby!
@kelrauh - I haven't had that type of hip pain but I  know a lot of the ladies have had success with chiropractors and getting adjustments. I know when I'm having back pain and some point pain, sitting on a ball seems to help a little. It definitely takes off some of the pressure. Hoping you start to feel some relief soon!

  • Ladies I wish I had better news to share, ive been home for a while now but the babies prognosis is not good.

If you recall last week the doctors thought I had peed on myself or that the baby in fact kicked my bladder after hours of tests we found that was not true. It was my water that broke

  • It looks like my post got cut im sorry things may not be clear to you guys

yes my water broke so there is little to no fluid around the baby and he needs it to survive! But the drs are so quick to say terminate and were just hoping for a miracle. It broke a wk ago & they cant tl us how hes still alive. His heartbeat was strong, im not bleeding anymore and my cervix is closed so we cant give up on him things arent adding up we have to try to save him even though they tell us there really no chance
