Which NN for Lorelei do you prefer? Clicky

So we are really loving Lorelei for this little girl... I love the nickname Lola but Dh loves the nickname Rory.  I'm okay with either to be honest, but I'm just curious - which nickname do you prefer for Lorelei?

also for a middle name we are debating on the following:

Lorelei Kate (but is Kate to common for a middle name these days....?)
Lorelei MaryKay (Mary is my grandmother's name and Kay is DH's grandmothers name, so we thought a good combo maybe.)

Thoughts on middle name choice as well?  Anything you can think of that sounds good would be helpful!

  • neither.  dislike both, not to mention i dont think they make sense for the name lorelei.

  • Depends on DDs personality, of course this will be hard to tell with a newborn, then use whichever comes more naturally. I voted Lola, the pop culture references don't really phase me, I don't have an issue with Rory though.

  • I'd go with Lola.

I have never understood why Rory was ever created into a name or nickname. It feels hard for me to pronounce. The R on R sound really bugs.

  • I love Lorelei nn Rory.

And definitely Lorelei Kate. Lorelei MaryKay doesn't flow well.

  • I love all three names, Lorelei, Rory, and Lola.  I don't think you can go wrong either way.  Though I voted for Rory because I'm more used to hearing it as a nn for Lorelei than I am to hearing Lola.

  • I don't like the way Rory sounds.  But Lola has really grown on me.  I'm not sure I'd actually use a nickname though, I think the name is so beautiful without one!

  • Oh, and I'd go with Lorelei Kate.  I think it flows much better than Lorelei MaryKay.  And no one ever died from a fairly common middle name.  I think that's a good spot to use a common name.

  • I voted for Lola, because I really don't get how Rory is a nn for that name. It doesn't make sense to me, even if its common. Plus, when I think Rory I think a fat, dirty, old man working on a car or something.  How about jsut Lorel? Or Lolo? I babysit for a kid with the nn Lolo, it was weird at first, but now I like it.

  • I'd just call her Lorelei-- it's such a nice name (and not too long), and I'm a little unsure about nicknames that only seem to marginally relate to the name-- it seems like the parents just couldn't decide between two names.

But if you really want a nickname, it might be worth it to wait until she's born and see what develops. Sometimes nicknames grow out of the person.

  • I like Rory (or Rori, if you are going to spell it off the name) for a nickname, if you have to have one.

I like Kate as a middle name.

I picked Lola because Rory is my absolute LEAST favorite name.  However, I think Lorelei is beautiful.

I also don't really under stand how Lola or Rory are NN for Lorelei.
    It makes no sense!
    I don't like either.

But I do love Lorelei Kate.. MaryKay is cute but as a PP said, it doesn't flow well

  • There was a thread about this a few weeks back. I thought the other poster just really liked Gilmore Girls and wanted to honor both main characters in one name, I didn't realize Rory was a real nn for Lorelei. Doesn't make any sense to me!

I'd just go for the nn Lori.

  • I didn't vote, because I don't like either. If I had to choose, Rory.
  • I wonder how often Rory could/would get turned into Roy by mistake, especially by her peers until they are a bit older... Lola just sounds so sweet and honest so you know how I voted. Could Lori be an option?
  • A close friend has a Lorelei Jane.  We call her Lei.  I know that's not a typical NN.  But that's just easier and cuter than Rory and Lola IMO.  My friend tried the Rory thing in the beginning, but now that she's 3.5 she just doesn't 'look' like a Rory.

  • Why does there have to be a nickname? Why can't she just be Lorelai?

Sorry, but I don't like the name Lorelai or either nickname. And I don't understand predetermined nicknames. If I liked a certain NN then I would give the child that name. I always thought nicknames came naturally. Just my thoughts and opinion :)
