It was definitely a shock!! Though in my Jan 13 group I think this is literally like the 6th mini pill baby. So I mean I know it's possible. Dh took it well considering, he wanted to be done (I wanted one more so it was a happier shock for me).
But ut one we are in 2017 (deductible) he'll definitely get snipped!

Sounds like us - my husbands first words were "I'm not ok w this". I bled pretty bad after my last delivery so he has medical concerns which I completely understand. He's come around though. He is definitely getting snipped too haha! He almost did in August but we had too much going on. Oops! I'm really freaked out about having 4 kids!!!!! What number is this for you?

Thank you! You know, when I was pregnant w my first in 2010 I found her blog. I basically copied her daughters birth announcement bc I thought it was so beautiful! I read her story and bawled like a baby! Fast forward 6 years when I had Cameron and I can't stop wondering if back then I knew I'd have him at some point.

We will be doing the Maternit21 test and then forego the NT scan. My doctor said you're taking a step backwards if you do an NIPT test and NT isn't necessary.
With that said - my NT scan failed us with our third. We had zero soft or hard markers and I was 1 in 1000. We ended up w a birth diagnosis. It was traumatic to say the least. He is now almost 15 months though and an absolute joy! Its DS awareness month and I've been sharing little nuggets of info over on Instagram if anyone would like to follow.
I am a nervous wreck. The NIPT's are simply screenings, not diagnostic. A part of me thinks we should also do CVS for peace of mind, but I hate the risks. We wouldn't terminate a pregnancy, but I couldn't handle another surprise like we had a year ago! This pregnancy alone has been surprise enough to last me the next 8 months haha! I was on the mini pill and got pregnant soooooo....maybe we should buy a lotto ticket since we seem to be the "small chance" in two different scenarios haha!
@LilLee11 I'm sitting here reading this post thinking "wow this sounds exactly like _____ from A15, wow her baby is an A15 baby too...wait a minute!!! Congrats, had no idea you joined the June mamas!!

Hi All - I have read this thread a few times and only saw one mention of First Trimester Screen. Does anyone know the difference between First Trimester Screen and NIPT? NIPT is listed as additional test to the First Trimester Screen in the pamphlet my doctor gave me, so just curious what the difference is? Also, does the First Trimester Screen tell you the gender?
@graceriesz if you're referring to the NT scan, no that will not be a good time to find out the sex because that screening is between 11-14 weeks. This screening measures nose bone, neck fat etc. I think most people do this screening and if their odds are high for any of the trisomies, you'd go on to further testing, like maternit21 which is NIPT. This is a blood test that can be done bc the baby's DNA is in the mothers blood. I will be going straight to the maternit21 because I have a son w Down syndrome. My doctor said we will forego NT because that would be taking a step back. HTH

@LilLee11 Thank you for the information (P.S. totally looked at your Instagram - great photos!) The pamphlet on 1st Trimester Screening says it's both blood work (between 9w and 13w5d, three separate tests) and an ultrasound (on the procedure list it is listed as two separate ultrasounds "Fetal Maternal Eval & Nuchal Translucency"(NT?) between 11w1d and 13w. I guess that's why I am confused what's the difference between this and NIPT, if there is any? Here's a link to the website on the pamphlet: https://ntdlabs.com/maternal-marker-testing/first_trimester_screen.php
We have our appointment with the nurse on November 30th so I can ask questions then - but that seems like forever away. We don't have history in our families - but I am leaning towards testing since our insurance covers it.
Also, to correct my previous post, tell you the baby's sex*
I will be getting what my doctor calls the cell-free fetal DNA test, it is diagnosic not just a screening tool. I will get it shortly after I turn 10 weeks and since I am 36 and have past miscarriage my insurance will cover it. My doctor said it is much more accurate than Quad screening because it actually tests the baby's DNA and will tells us if there are any chromosome abnormalities vs. telling us the chances of abnormalities. On a bonus note we get to find out sex of baby, but would do test regardless.

The NT/1st tri screenings are blood work and an ultrasound. The blood work in addition to a radiologist opinion on the ultrasound information will give you a likelihood of certain things like DS (ie. 1 in 2000, etc.) but it is not as precise as NIPT results. The blood work for the first tri screenings is also not complex enough to decipher XY chromosomes, only an NIPT like Maternit21, Panorama, Harmony, etc. have that capability currently.

It is highly accurate but I wanted to caution you it isn't diagnostic. After mine came back with a positive result I was referred to a peri to have a diagnostic done (CVS or amnio) to give an official diagnosis. Praying it doesn't come to that for anyone here.

So, dragging this one back up... my office does panorama... supposedly they work with you on the cost if insurance is difficult on paying for it...
One thing I found interesting from researching the sites was how much it scans for, and there seems to be accuracy differences between the different tests in the market. so for those getting it done, I suggest researching so you know going in... my OB said the practice had one false positive over that past year for Trisonomy 18 which was found to be not diagnosed via MFM amniocentesis. Just want to reiterate that these are screenings not diagnostic.
Also, not to start a whole debate or upset people on this again... but I was shocked to see them call it gender reporting or use the terms gender and sex interchangeably. especially for a medical testing site... very surprisng.
So I got my blood drawn for Harmony on Friday (10w1d) and I'm having total paranoia that I drew too early and should have waited until this week to do it. Ughhh why am I so impatient! I even had a dream the other night about inconclusive results due to insufficient fetal dna. Hopefully it will only be a few more days or a week before I get results back. Anyone else testing soon or waiting for results?
@mirdamae03- I'm 10 weeks today and was tempted to go, but I'm trying to wait until 11 b/c that's what my doc said. But, if you were told you could go at 10, no worries, I'm sure it'll be fine (I think each test has slightly different rules anyway). We mamas always find something to worry about. Hang in there, and just think of the peace of mind you'll have in another week or so.
@mirdamae03 I am having blood drawn on Monday for Maternit21. I'll be 11w4 days. But I hear anytime after 10 weeks is fine- and I am sure the tests have a safety factor built in with that recommendation. Let us know of your results and how long it takes!

It won't be covered by my insurance. my doctor told me to call Panorama before hand and tell them to not even submit to insurance. She said that the cash price is around $300, so I just need to confirm that.
FTR, I called my insurance with the Panorama CPT billing code (81507) and asked what were the requirements for it to be covered... they just said a singleton pregnancy OR something high risk related to an adrenal disease. So my specific insurance doesn't require the AMA diagnosis code for testing.
One interesting thing re: Panorama specifically was that I talked to them and they said that if you order through them, like the doctor sends orders to them directly, they ship you the vials to have it drawn, then they process it... not a channel lab like GenPath, but directly with them, that they'll file it with insurance... appeal it up to 3 times if denied, and then they write it off and I would owe nothing! I asked them how they can stay in business like that but he said that they were confident in their ability to have it processed by insurance companies and it hasn't been an issue. This isn't the same for channel partner lab testing for what I will be doing through my OB's office though, so worst case scenario without the extended micro-deletions panel through GenPath would be $395 cash price but it should be less than $100 through my insurance which should cover it based on my call to them today.
@Mashunya425 my OB gave me the direct phone number for the local billing person at GenPath, they actually have a little pre-printed pad of paper slips with GenPath's info with the guys name/number. He was the one that provided the CPT code when I kept asking detailed questions and scenarios for payment, haha... we did chat about the fact that my insurance provider was being strange b/c they indicated, in writing, that all patients (even 'low risk') would be covered but have been spotty at best with covering the charges and randomly denying the claims.
@michaela0704 great info thanks! I'm actually about to call Panorama tomorrow to ask about this stuff...my doctor's office draws the blood directly and said that if I tell the Panorama folks to just straight up evade my insurance it costs in the $300-400 range. It'd be nice if I could get it for even less! But $300-400 is reasonable for me - I have that money in my HSA. I don't know that I'd pay $1k, but under $500, no question, i'll do it. :-)
@michaela0704 - mine won't be covered but I had a soft marker found with my second and I really just want to avoid the crazy stress I went through in my second and third tris. I'm totally willing to pay OOP for piece of mind. (We won't be finding out the sex yet though.)

Talked to the Panorama folks yesterday...said they'd try to get it through insurance, but if they deny, I should wait until I get my enormous bill, call them back, and they'll reduce to somewhere between $100-200 depending on whether I'm in or out of network. works for me!
