Election 2016 Thread

This is a monumental day, I thought it would be fun (or maybe not) to have a general discussion thread.

You can share if you voted, or just general thoughts on the day.

Re: Election 2016 Thread

  • I've already voted this morning. The girls and I took donuts to the volunteers.

My house is a house divided, so this morning was a bit contentious. We've let bygones be bygones and are going to make the best of the day by going to Target and B&N.

  • I voted- location was at a school across the street and there was no line. Perfect scenario.

Frankly, I just want it to be tomorrow. I'll be happy tomorrow regardless of outcome just that we can put this insane election behind us.

  • I voted this morning as well. I was surprised by how long the line was already this morning. I got there right about when it opened around 7:00 AM and I still had to wait 45 minutes!! I think this election being so crazy is going to lead to one of the best voter turn outs we have seen in a long time!! I am in Michigan, which has typically voted blue over the past 5 or 6 elections. However, it seems that this year we may just swing the other way. I am anxious to get home and watch the results tonight!! EEK!

  • I am kinda bummed to miss out on the election party thrown by the embassy here. Its usually really fun. I'm just sick and not feeling like hanging out until 3 am on a Tuesday night plus finding a baby sitter. Voted absentee. I just wonder if there is somewhere I can watch election coverage online besides just keeping up by twitter. If I manage to stay awake...
    Also, I'm so over elections.

  • I voted this morning and am really excited for the results. I actually enjoy the election process and seeing people on social media coming out in support of their candidates. It's interesting to see different sides, however much I may disagree with some of them.

Really looking forward to witnessing tonight with my daughter.
  • I agree with @Elyse1384 people complain every year about having to choose between "the lesser of two evils". I'm writing in a name to send a message that both parties need to do better. I'm sure that message won't be received this year, but at least I know I did my part.

I'm so mad- mostly at myself because it is my fault for not looking into it sooner. I lived in Michigan for the last election, so I voted there for that. When I moved to Tennessee, I forgot to register here- once I realized it, I had already missed the deadline. SO I attempted to do an absentee ballot, but MI can't even find my registration  :s so I am out this election.

I may just pack up and move to Canada in January regardless of the outcome.. at least I'll be closer to my side of the family! Lol

edit= because spelling is hard today.

  • My son was beyond excited to go vote.  Our polls opened at 6am so I got up extra early and we all went and voted together.  He insisted on bringing his little American flag and proudly wore his "my vote counted" sticker to daycare after.  I love that he is so interested in the process and how the country works at such a young age (he's almost 5)

  • I voted early this morning and brought my son who was pretty excited about it. My husband and I will have a nerd date in watching the results. I love the process but am ready for it to be over. I love that people are passionate about issues and am ok with peoples varying opinions. I do however take issue with people making decisions based on a facebook meme and not on fact or policy.
  • I can not wait for this to be over!!! I voted early this morning.

Im not on the boat of just go vote. I'm on the boat of become informed. Educate yourself and then vote. All votes matter, even if it's not for the top two. You live in a country that gives you the right to choose. And if you like someone else, you should only vote for that person.

I haven't decided if I'm watching or just want to wake up and have a new president.

My state had early voting but it was never convenient.... I thought with our SoS saying over 2.8M people early voting that lines wouldn't be that bad.  I was about ~ 100th person in line at 6:30am, polls opened at 7am, the line was INSANE!

My state is a 'so-called' swing state this year, but I don't think it will change from what it normally is... I would be shocked!

I always get patriotic and was pregnant for the last presidential election.  I have listened to Lee Greenwood a few times,ok a lot, this morning... as much as I know where my opinion lies, I really am so grateful to our veterans, service men and women to provide freedom to Americans, which includes our ability to vote in such an election. Ugh, ugly pregnancy tears and just so grateful today!!
  • @Mother0fDragons I'm Hispanic too. God knows what tomorrow will bring!
  • Dh and I voted this morning. Got right in and out, so that was nice. I just want this all to be over. I told DH yesterday I can't wait for the political ads to end, bring on ALL the Christmas commercials!!!
  • I voted two weeks ago and just can't wait for this to be over.  I'm with @swanbrooner on the social media nonsense too.  Why do people think it's a good idea to post anything political on FB?  FB is for cat memes and recipe videos, not political rants.

I, like @wifeinraleigh28 , live in NC, so it was imperative that DH and I get out and vote.  I am registered independent and am happy to say that I have voted pretty evenly across the major parties in my lifetime, based solely on the person who I think will do the best job and get the most stuff that will benefit the country done.  I wasn't thrilled with the selection this year, but even though Hillary is pretty unlikable personality-wise, it still makes me tear up a bit that an actual woman could be named president-elect tonight.  I mean...that is just a really big deal.  But there are also a lot of important non-presidential races going on, so I think it's really important that people study up on their state and local options and vote wisely on those as well.  Especially since these past several years NC has been one embarrassment after another.  Something needs to change around here.

  • No line here, but we went at 1:30 (purposefully avoiding early morning, lunch, and after work crowds) since DH works from home and I had the day off.  It's never a question how my little state will turn out, but I'll be interested to see what happens with the rest of the country.

  • I had a little craziness happen. I shared my story on Pantsuit Nation and it kinda took off more than I could've guessed. I felt strongly about this election and I'm so glad to have voted. I'm equally glad it's over now. I'm mentally and emotionally exhausted by it all.
Your story clearly touched many people, thank you for sharing. I started to read some of the comments but my screen was getting too blurry. All of the personal stories shared there are so powerful.
  • I voted early about two weeks ago. I'm working late tonight and won't know what's going on until around 10pm. The suspense is killing me! And I just might cry if the liar liar pantsuit on fire wins
  • I voted Saturday. Being from Indiana and knowing how people in my state vote, I'm really not very enthusiastic about the outcome of this election.

It's been amazing to think about the possibility of a woman being president, makes my heart swell. Other than that, this election has just reminded me why I never came out.
  • I waited over an hour to vote this morning, I've never seen such a thing!  AND I'm a little taken back that they never asked for my ID.  Just my name (which happened to be my maiden name since it never changed over, but they didn't care), address, and birthdate.  Anyone can know that stuff... just so crazy!

  • @marybpoppins in all the elections I have particpated in, so for 15 years or so, I've never been asked for my ID.  In fact I've never even given my address or birthdate.  I tell them my name, they flip to the page and I just sign my name and head on in.  They never even ask for my voter registration card.  I'm interested to see if it's different here in Massachusetts.

Just name and address here in MA.  No ID or any real attempt to identify you.  I always say... vote early and vote often.
  • @marybpoppins, they never ask for ID here in NE either. In fact, I handed mine to them so they could use it to find my name and she very quickly shoved it back to me and said 'we don't need your ID.'  Ooookay.

  • @Elyse1384, did you just Rick Roll us?  ;)
  • you have to have your id in Indiana. And you can be turned away for any reason. It's bs that excludes trans people from voting if the people at the polling center so choose.
