***I have "borrowed" this thread from M17, just so we can get some daily threads happening and get us started. If there's any changes anyone would like to make let me know in the comments and we can discuss them. I did make a few tweaks to everything***

Welcome to the July 2017 Birth Month Board!

Some links that you may find helpful:

For those of you that are new to TB since you got your BFP, the threads below are standard threads to all boards. Anyone can start these threads, just please do not duplicate! Specific threads have volunteers to start (IE: ticker changes, PGAL/FTM/STM+ check ins). Those assigned threads have been volunteered for and have the names of that responsible person next to it.

The community of this board encourages giving support as well as receiving it and prefers threads that benefit the whole rather than the individual.  A wide range of topics are covered in our regular weekly threads, and we also have two catch-all threads for questions/comments and discussions/announcements: “Pregnancy Chatter” (pregnancy/childcare) and “Randoms & Spam” (non-pregnancy/childcare).

If you have a specific question please first use the search function if you are looking for specific answers to things to ensure we have not already answered your question. If you cannot find the answer then please post it in one of the weekly topics or the chatter threads.  The exception to this is confirmed loss - please update us if you are comfortable doing so in either your own thread (for which you will receive response notifications) or in an existing relevant thread (which you will not unless the responder directly tags you).

If there is a discussion for the community that would be better served in its own thread, feel free to post it!  A good example of this may be a GTKY (Get To Know You) question or, as we near July, a thread about what people are planning for their hospital go-bags. Once we all get farther along, we will also have pinned threads for things like gender announcements, nursery pics, and birth announcements.

If everyone is on board with acceping responsibility to post threads I am willing to do:

Tuesday FTM check in, Wednesday ticker change, and stupid question Sunday

  • Hi @osucma! Thanks for starting this. I'm ALL for organization.

Do you want to edit your original post with the volunteer names as people sign up?

I'd be willing to do Thursday Ticker Change and FFFC.

  • I'll volunteer for the Friday ticker change
  • I can't post from work so I can't commit to a thread start-up, but my vote is against only super-organization. We can really talk about this when we actually get some members!

I'm with you. Sometimes boards go overboard with organization. On my last BMB, someone was in charge of each ticker change, but all the other threads were started by whoever felt like starting them. And (for instance) if nobody had anything to bitch about on a Monday, the Monday Bitchfest never happened. I think that makes for more interesting threads when some starts it because they really have something to talk about, and not just out of obligation.

I also think everyone should feel welcome to start a thread if they have an idea. And perhaps having too many "set in stone" threads could make someone feel uncomfortable starting something different?

I don't mind threads being started that don't quite fit in but I do prefer to have the organization of daily threads. I think it makes it easier to commit to them versus hoping someone picks it up. I don't think everyone needs to commit to doing it, it's totally volunteer. That's why I did 3 of them because I don't mind.

@adabyron I can change the wording to this thread to say something about "if you want to post and it doesn't fit in a thread feel free to start a new one" to maybe help deter feeling uncomfortable.

I think it helps to come to a general consensus  since we will be with each other for sometime :) Should we post a poll on it?

  • We can definitely be open to others opinions and vibes as they join, but I think it's good to set some gentle standards right from the very beginning before we get influxed with post-and-ghosters that use us as Google but never actually contribute anything.

I think the Tickers are great to have certain people start them, but I agree that some of the other theme threads can be started by anyone. I volunteered to start FFFC, and I'm happy to do it for the first couple until we get into the swing of things and then anyone can jump in with the thread-starting. I think most of them would benefit from someone who knows TB starting them at the beginning until we get a routine established.

I totally agree, especially with bolded parts. I think it might be very helpful for the first 2 weeks to have structure like this.

  • @osucma I think we might just get along :).

I legit cannot figure out how to get my ticker in my signature despite the links and much googling. I have tried both formats and click <> to make the box yellow before I paste and then save but noting except the code text :( (see below)

  • I could do the symptoms thread on Wednesday's for the time being! I agree with the posts above about board organization. I think it's good to have a more rigid structure at the beginning while things get rolling, but later on if someone gets to creating the thread before me, that'd be totally fine!
  • @manillabar I think that would be a fine place for that question.

Also everyone is noted that has volunteered, thanks!

  • edited November 2016
I really like the introduction post, the general board guidelines, and the helpful links.  I find the list of weekly threads and volunteer assignments too rigid of a structure though.  Somehow it always gets done with the community creating the threads if someone else hasn't already and things seem to evolve organically that way.  I think especially for those that join later, because they are due later and other new members, it may seem as if there is some governing body in charge.  It may be a bit much to be expected to keep track of who volunteered for what and which threads are 'taken'.  I'm for a bit more freedom.  Am not advocating chaos by any means just prefer to think of the titles above as suggestions versus structural rules.

@manillabar A thread completely dedicated to asking STM questions normally does quite well on its own.

I'm wondering why we have to wait until Wednesday to get the symptoms thread started?  I'm dying to see how everyone is doing and commiserate accordingly.  Now I'm sitting on my hands trying to not step on toes because there is an assignment pending.... Sigh ...
  • @caribbeanmama we can move the symptoms thread to Monday that's not an issue if no one has an issue with it.

In regards to board structure (who starts threads and what not) that can be flexible. Some people volunteered so I put their names there. I don't think it's a bad idea to have the ticker changes, FTM/STM/PGAL check ins to be one dedicated person to make sure they do not get missed.

I am happy to change any wording in the intro to match how we want the board to go, just need more input from everyone on here so far.

  • My understanding was that the point of assigning people is so that it doesn't get missed. I personally would never be offended if someone started the Sunday ticker change before I got the chance to. I think we're worried too much about being too rigid. I agree that we need some gentle structuring, as it seems everyone else does, but as far as I can tell no one's jumping down anyone's throat so I think we'll be ok

@WorkinWeezel I felt the same way!  Hadn't been on a board since I had my son in April 2012!
  • Now that we have more people I am going to post a poll on if we want assigned, some assigned, or no assigned threads since we have pretty mixed opinions on if we want them.
  • I like the idea of having people volunteer for a board. That way it's consistent and is done every week. I'm happy to start one!
  • I'll take Tuesday Ticker Change.
