just to jazz it up some this week..... tell us about your dr appointments AND if you have a Christmas tree, when do you plan on putting it up this year?
Appointment on Wednesday. Supposed to hear the heartbeat and get a blood draw. Any ideas on what the blood draw could be for at 16 weeks? I had one done at my first appointment (9 weeks).
We we have a Christmas tree. I prefer to put it up after Thanksgiving but DH is more of a day after Halloween guy. Usually I can hold him off until at least the middle of November.
@wagnerw could it be a blood draw for genetic screening? I know that the NT scan can be accompanied by blood draws. First round around 11-13 weeks and the second round somewhere around 16 weeks. But it would seem that you didn't do the first round. Not sure if you have to do both rounds...
No appts for me this week other than a dentist appt.
I want to play! We have a fake tree that we set up the weekend after Thanksgiving or the first weekend in Decenber, depending on how busy we are. But it's a family event, all our kids help us set it up. Also, we do a tree decorating at my dads house. All the grandkids help decorate the tree there.
Finally have an appointment this week! It's a quick check-up and I get to hear that sweet heartbeat again. AND I get to schedule the anatomy scan - yay!!
I usually put our tree up right after Thanksgiving. We have two fake ones - one big and one small - last year we put the big one upstairs and the small one downstairs where it fit better. This year we'll be out of town for Thanksgiving so we'll see when we get around to it!
I have an appointment on Friday the 21st - will probably be pretty uneventful, just a checkup and blood draw, and probably listening to the heartbeat on doppler which is always exciting...but since I have my home doppler I can listen anytime I want so it makes the appointment a bit anticlimactic
@wagnerw my blood draw at this appointment (also 16 weeks) will be the second part of the sequential screening test, which is a 2-part blood test (first one was at 12 weeks). Combined with the NT ultrasound (also done at 12 weeks) it gives you a risk level for certain genetic conditions (Trisomy 21, 18, and a few others I believe).
I am really hoping to have a Christmas tree this year. I had one growing up, but DH thought it was a "waste of time" to put one up since we didn't have kids. I told him this year we should put one up as practice since next year we will have a baby and have to get the tradition started! Ideally, we would put it up right after Thanksgiving.
I get to find out the sex of the baby this week!!! YAY!!! Hopefully we will get a real tree this year, but I can't put it up until after my husbands birthday Dec 7th lol
No appointments for me until 11/1 for my 18week US. I'm not sure what the blood draw would be for, but I do remember have multiple done with my first pregnancy. I just don't remember anymore why.
But when is the glucose test done? I can't remember anymore. I am SO dreading that test. I want to barf just thinking about it.
As far as Xmas tree goes. It would be sometime after Thanksgiving. typically we do it the weekend after.
We have the NT scan on Wednesday morning. A little nervous about it but fingers crossed everything will go well. That, combined with the NIPS blood test I had last week should give us any definitive results about chromosomal abnormalities (not that there is any reason to expect there to be any, but I'll definitely be happy when we get the all clear).
As for a Christmas tree, we absolutely get one. In the past, we've gotten real ones but our new landlord left a fake one in the attic...might just put that up! Normally we put it up the first or second week of December. NEVER before Thanksgiving (I'm a Christmas baby and it's important for me to separate the holidays). I also hate Halloween candy in stores in August, so it's just a thing I have with holidays.
I had an appointment this morning. Had to have an early glucose test since I had GD with DS. No fun at all - plus I checked my own before I went in and it's looking like it'll be a fail. Bummer. Not happy about having to have the 3hr so early this pregnancy but better to know for the baby's health for sure. We did get to hear the baby's heartbeat. That's always so reassuring. Lost more weight and now they are talking about putting me on meds to help bring my appetite back - I'm desperately trying to avoid meds so we'll see if I can't get this food aversion figured out.
We go every year right after Thanksgiving and cut a tree down from a local tree farm. Can't wait for our little guy to get in on the fun - I think he's going to love the tree this year and finally will semi-understand Santa. So exciting!
I have the first of 3 scans at the hospital this Friday to check cervical length. I'm so nervous, just hoping everything is ok with baby. I usually put up the tree on black Friday. Fake trees only in my family, the dogs will drink the water eat the branches and pee all over a real tree.
I had my appointment last week and the next isn't until next month but I had to take an early one hour glucose test last week since I had gd my last pregnancy. I got the call today that I failed. @M&Max I opted not to do the 3 hour and just start watching carbs and testing my sugars. Hopefully you pass your 1 hour though!. We put up our tree thanksgiving evening or that weekend. We normally use a fake tree but every now and then we get a fresh cut tree. It'll be interesting this year with my son who turns 12 months in a couple of weeks. He will have a hard time leaving it alone. Lol
@Limie yeah I talked to the OB and asked if I could just opt out. She was hesitant - last time I didn't technically fail the 3hr but since it was close they called it a fail (I was so devastated). She was hoping that this time I won't be so close to it but who really knows. Even if I pass it this time, I'd have to retake all of this all over again at like 28 weeks We shall see though.
I had a rescan for my NT Test this morning. It went better than the last and radiologist accepted the results. I'll go this afternoon for the accompanying blood draw. I also, finally, got a due date. Up until now we've been mostly guessing based on an average cycle length- I'm officially a week further ahead than we thought (or I have a very long baby ). On Friday I meet with the OB for my routine check-up and will probably schedule the next schwack of tests.
As for the Christmas tree, it doesn't usually go up until late November early December (I suspect this year will probably be around Dec 3), but I'll start putting up other decorations and whatnot after Remembrance Day.
I have an appointment this Thursday to hear the heartbeat and to get lab work done. All while my 13 month old is accompanying me so hopefully it'll go smooth lol.
We will put the 2ft fake Christmas tree up after we get home from traveling over Thanksgiving. Trying to find a good place to put it so the toddler won't knock all the ornaments down.
Had a US today! Yup there's a baby in there. I admit I cried (happy tears). And it feels real, FINALLY! The baby was so cute squirming around in there. I'm in love .
We we get our tree 2 weeks before Christmas and leave it up until New Year's Day. But I put out decorations thanksgiving weekend.
Saw my midwife today. Got blood for labs drawn, bp, measurement of my belly, Doppler heartbeat. An all around good normal visit. Toddler enjoyed the toys, balloons, snacks, and fish feeding again. It's nice to have him well entertained. Next visit will be 20 weeks and then a referral for the big anatomy scan ultrasound! Hubby and I are debating doing an early elective scan to determine whether to buy pink or blue balloons. Jury is still out on whether we want to spend the money. ETA we'll put up our tree with just lights on it no sooner than the day after Thanksgiving!
2nd Trimester Club! Now that we are officially in the 2ndT, I think I will start enjoying this pregnancy a bit more. It feels more real now, if that makes sense.
We had the 13 week NT scan and blood draw. 6 little vials this time. My toddler was on my lap memorized at all the squirty blood going in the tube. I didn't think she would watch. The u/s went well, I assume (we didn't do this last pregnancy). She saw the facial bones and neck thickness she wanted. Official results with the blood work will be back in a in a week. I am so happy I had the NT scan.
I'm glad it sounds like everyone else is doing well at their appointments! Except for the GD ladies, that sounds rough. I hope everyone will pass with no GD.
I go today, thinking it's just a short and sweet apt like the one we had at 12 weeks...weigh-in, BP, listen to baby's HB, etc. Then I will be scheduling our 20 wk anatomy scan apt!!! yay!!
We have a Christmas tree and we usually put it up the day after Thanksgiving
Pretty excited - just got the email that I passed the early glucose screening. I was super shocked since I felt so nauseous after drinking it (same way I felt with DS). Just have to take it again between 26-28 weeks. One down One to go!
Thanks @KirstinH88 and @thecavfamily ! It truly is the small things right now that make me so happy/relieved. Now if only this round ligament pain would go away
I thought cervical length was a standard ultrasound measurement they did with every ultrasound after the dating one. I've never really been told my measurements specifically just heard them mention they were measuring it and everything looked fine. I don't ever remember this being a heavily emphasized aspect of the ultrasound for me but maybe it varies on the practice?
NT scan went well today! Baby was super active and wouldn't cooperate at first but the tech got everything she needed. Got a bunch of cute pictures and discovered that the baby is measuring TWO WEEKS ahead of schedule. We're keeping our due dates the same for now but that still could change.
Appointment went well today. The blood draw was for a genetic scan that they look at results combined with the anatomy scan in a few weeks.
Also, may or may not have over emphasized my worries about baby growing at the right pace and ended up getting a quick "fun" ultrasound today. Our first appointment/ultrasound at 9 weeks the baby was asleep and curled up so we didn't see anything really. And it only lasted about 15 seconds. So now today we saw baby wiggling, sucking, turning over, ribs, heartbeat, etc. It was very reassuring and FINALLY made it feel real (mostly ) This is the happiest I think I have been all pregnancy.
Had a quick appointment today - I got to listen to the heartbeat again! 145 bpm and sounding good. Anatomy scan scheduled for 11/17 - I cannot WAIT to see Nugget again!!!
OOOOOOPS , I keep thinking my next appointment isn't until 11/1. I just realized that I have one next Wednesday. It's with my ob, I'm assuming it will be a 15 minute deal of checking my BP, Doppler a hug (I love my OB, oh and it's a woman LOL) and that's it!
BTW, with my first pregnancy at 31 I had to pee in a cup every appointment. There were never issues, no risk etc. This time they said I don't need to do it. Why not? if anything I assumed, I'd do it even more since I'm AMA. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, just surprised. Any insight?
We had our appointment on Wednesday and all went well! We got to hear the baby's sweet heartbeat for the first time and it was amazing! The baby was relaxing on its back with its legs crossed, ha! We find out gender on November 9th. I love having a tree up! I usually put it up the weekend before Thansgiving since that is always a busy four days for us. It's a pain to put up and a pain to take down, but DH and I enjoy having it up.
Appointment today went well! I didn't get yelled at for gaining 10 lbs already at 16 weeks which I was afraid of My doctor said it's perfectly fine. Also heard hb on doppler at 150 bpm! Can't wait until my next appointment for the anatomy scan on Nov 16th. Seems so far away but I know it will fly by since I am away for 10 of those days.
I had my NT scan on Monday. Scan looked good but the finger prick put me at an increased risk for down syndrome (1:120), plus my Papp-a was low I had a midwife appointment today and she couldn't find the heartbeat at first so I got another ultrasound.
I'll have the Maternti21 test next week and that should give us a better idea of what we're facing. Hopefully all is well

Nervous. I know people with Down syndrome can live happy and fulfilling lives, but there's also an increased risk of serious medical issues like heart defects. Thankfully if our child does have down syndrome, there are so many advances to improve quality/length of life.
