s/o Christmas Eve sex

Are you not supposed to have sex on Christmas/Christmas Eve? That seemed to be what some of the posts were implying, but I've never heard of that!

  • I think the reason for not having sex on Christmas eve was that many people have a house full of family or are staying at family members houses. This could perhaps put a kink in your plans if you are staying in in a spare bedroom right next to Auntie Ruth :P

  • Can it has something to do with a day of abstinence for the Christmas vigil?  I believe Catholics abstain from meat, poultry, and  sex on Christmas Eve (why the Italians eat the 7 fishes), Lent and certain ember days.  In the early Church, I believe Friday was a day of absitenece, too, b/c it is the day Jeseus died on the cross.  I had an Uncle who wouldn't touch meat on Friday b/c of that.

Wow, I'm Catholic and I've never heard of this.  We aren't supposed to eat meat on Fridays during lent, but my family has ham and kielbasa on Christmas Eve at my grandma's house (and she's pretty religous).  I'll have to ask her about it.  Maybe it's a rule that we just don't observe?

I am Catholic, also. I found the following information https://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?p=7391688.

Abstinence is no longer required of Catholics in the US, on Christmas Eve, but is still the norm in many other countries.

Christmas Eve is not a day of fasting. There are only 2 obligatory fast days in the Latin Church: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (the Church does encourage the continuance of this fast into Holy Saturday).

Fridays throughout the year are days of penance. The conventional penance is abstinence from meat. However, other acts of penance can be substituted, e.g. a vegetarian would need to find some alternative.

Things used to be a lot more strict in the "olden days" of the Church. Since that's when I ovulate, I plan on getting busy Christmas Eve and day.  Wink

I wish that my priest had told us this.  I really did think that it was a day of abstinence.  However, I think that baby making sex is OK on Christmas Eve but not fun sex.  I will call tomorrow baby making sex even though I don't think that I will O until new years eve.

IMO my family knows Im married and there's nothing shameful about having sex with my husband. While I'm not suggesting you ask grandma where you can set up the love swing I don't see why one couldn't have sex. If someone is listening to what my husband and I do behind closed doors they are the one who should be ashamed.

Technically as a Catholic you are never supposed to have sex as recreation, its why they push NFP. Its also the reason they don't support homosexuality, one can't impregnate someone of the same sex obviously.
