That moment when your baby who never sleeps is actually sleeping like an angel & you can't fall asleep to save your life. it's gonna be a long night...
L has started going to sleep around 7!! It sucks! We're not ready to go to sleep st 7...and she's waking around 11-12, which is about an hour or two into our sleep. Brutal!! Followed by getting up every 2-3 hours after. Crib training sucks! Hoping this can't last forever....she's got to accept it soon right?! Maybe starting rice cereal at the 4 month mark, right around the corner, will help.
@TiffRox81 I have no idea what I did to make this text bigger, buuut I just started crib training this week. I've had a few nights of success. It's hard for sure.
Hey ladies- what are you using for dry/red baby skin? I had been using mostly coconut oil which helped initially. Last night I used a baby lotion and his skin almost seems worse this morning....doesn't really make sense to me...any other ideas?
@TiffRox81- I feel you on the lack of sleep. It is rough! Just make sure and check with your pedi or research before starting rice cereal. There are lots of different opinions on it. Our pedi is very against it and wants us to wait until 6 months before introducing any food.
@holly142 Oh wow!! I definitely planned to wait until her 4 month check up and double check. I didn't know some were against it. Thanks for the heads up!
Here is an article that describes many of the reasons my pedi listed as why we should wait until 6 months old. People talk all the time about giving rice cereal early so I was surprised by this too. https://thestir.cafemom.com/baby/123600/10_reasons_to_delay_solids
@tiffrox81 7pm is a great bedtime! All the babies I know (5 born this year) have their bedtime at 7. I wake her up and feed her when I go to bed at 10. Then when she wakes up in the middle of the night. It's awesome. I get 3 hours of whatever I want time and then her longest stretch of sleep after I go to bed.
@holly142@TiffRox81 My mom keeps telling me I should be starting my son on pablum/ rice cereal. Besides the fact that it's empty calories, has no nutritional content and isn't often recommended anymore; my son is 3.5 months, weighs 16lbs and sleeps through the night. Yeah..no thanks, we're good.
@shaylalr I wish she was close to doing the 7-7 sleep stretches...sadly I think I'm paying the price for taking her on a transatlantic vacation. So she goes to sleep at 7 but almost treats the hours of 7pm - 3am as daytime/naps. It sucks! Matched with a serious distaste of the pack and play. We'll figure it out soon I hope. I've wanted to keep her in our room a bit longer since her sleep has been all over the place but I'm thinking we're going to have to go back to the crib. Can't be worse there than it has been the last few nights in the PnP!
ETA I think she'd sleep for hours if she could just sleep with/on me. Ugh!! That's just not practical for overnight sleep. Hopefully we can correct these issues this week!!
Our sweet girl (12 weeks) is in the middle of both leap 3 and her 12 week growth spurt. She's been going to bed 1-2 hours earlier than she previously had been and is up 3x a night. Fingers crossed her sleep regression I keep hearing about at 4 months is wrapped in this too. Another month of this will be exhausting!
We had some serious sleep regression a few weeks ago but she pulled out of it after about a week and a half-ish. I did notice that she was still waking up more often than usual and watched her for a bit and noticed that she would whimper and try to chew on her paci or fingers...not suck- legit chomping chewing so I ended up giving her some tylenol and she has slept so much better. No doubt she is teething and in pain Now we are back to laying her down in her crib (us rolling over in bed was too loud and she couldn't sleep soundly in our room) around 9:30 after rocking for a bit and she wakes up between 3 and 430 then again for the day around 8.
@austinjl My son was born with a skin condition and the hospital used Parraffin Gel on his skin as a moisturiser. They also used silcocks base and oilatum in the bath along with elave wash.
I don't know if I'm putting LO down too early but it seems to work for now. I give him a nice bath around 6:45pm followed by a double swaddle and a 3-4 oz bottle. I double swaddle because he gets out of the first one and doesn't seem to sleep as long when his hands are out. He seems to do well until about 11-12 am until I feed him again. He then gets up again around 4-5 am but I'm up getting ready for work by that time. He hasn't really slept through the night yet so kudos to all the moms that their LO has! Pretty impressive!
My LO used to LOVE baths. Now he still likes taking a bath but it is a horror show when we take him out. He screams bloody murder until we get him dry, clothed and on my boob. And Lord have mercy if I put lotion on him! It sounds like we are killing the poor kid, but I live in CO where it's super dry and lotion is necessary. It has gotten so bad that I dread giving him a bath.
Anyone else dealing with this? Any tips or tricks to make it more enjoyable for him/me?
@arhodes6 we've been dealing with the exact same thing! M loves the bath but gets super mad when I take him out! I lay the towel down on the floor right next to me so I can wrap him up as quickly as possible and dress him as fast as I can. I was actually considering throwing his towel in the dryer for a few minutes right before so it's all warm when he gets out? I'll let you know if it works!
@arhodes6 my baby loves the bath and doesn't seem to care when I take him out but I typically have the towel on me when I pick him up. I immediately cover his head and hold him tight to my body. Make sure he's dry when I put him down to dress him and then usually follow it up with a small bottle.
@austinjl Aveeno eczema moisturizing cream was AMAZING when my LOs face was super dry from baby acne and rash. It literally took care of it within a day. I swear by it.
@arhodes6 This is always been how LO acts. We give her a bath every night and dread the end all the time. We tag team it and try to move as quickly as possible through it. It'll be awesome when she outgrows it.
@stellaluna14 that's a great idea! I'll try the warm towel next time too. I hope it works for you!
@babycakesday I can't wait until he outgrows this too. It's just so weird because he used to be fine, but one day he snapped and it's torture to get him out. We only do baths every 3 days (it's too dry in CO for every day baths) I can't imagine having to do it every night
arhodes6 do you shut the bathroom door to make sure it stays warm in the bathroom? I like the idea of putting a towel in the dryer. We used to have the same issue and I was using the little baby hooded towels and as soon as I just started using one of our big thick warm towels the screaming stopped. Maybe try that if you are using thin baby towels?
Definitely random, but if anyone has a chance to take an infant massage class, do it! I took a free intro through the baby-parent classes at my hospital and then I took another free class at a nearby university where students that were getting certified to give infant massages had to give a free training as part of their program. Then I got a book from the library to learn more. Infant massage techniques always help when my babies have been fussy!
Where did the naps go?! Little guy doesn't nap unless we are out running errands or if he's nursing but as soon as I try and move him to his crib or the PnP he's wide awake. Is anyone else still cosleeping at night?
@DachshundMomma- DD2 slept in her crib for 2-3 weeks but has been back with us for a week. She is going to sleep in her crib but after about 30 minutes she starts screaming and won't let us lay her down in it again. It's weird.
@DachshundMomma I'm in the same boat as you. He can be milk drunk and out cold and as soon as I put him down he wakes up. I am trying to transition him to his crib though and I feel like that's probably at least part of where this is coming from, but I'm not sure how to approach it.
Naps are leaving us here too. And night time is getting worse and worse. I'm hoping this is the dreaded 4 month sleep regression, because that means it will end!
Two nights ago was AWFUL - up every 1.5-2 hours. I thought it was the remnants of vacation jet lag but I'm thinking combo of that and 4 month sleep regression. Thankful the last two nights have improved. We're also working on sleeping in the crib, as she just hates the PnP and outgrown the RnP. I can say each day has gotten easier. I have a blow up mattress in there so I can sleep with her. Mainly because I read it helps with the transition for them...and not going to lie, me too! I'm not totally ready for her to be in her own room.
On a side note, I read that good daytime naps help for good night sleeps. Not sure of the truth but comparing the last few days...seems to be right! She (RANDOMLY) napped really well today and has no issues going down around 8! So jealous of all of you who have babies already sleeping 6+ hours!!! LOL
I am still cosleeping! We tried on Phillips week off to transition Jaxon to the crib. He did good a few times, but he's in leap 3 right now and Phillip isn't home so we've got the bed to ourselves. I did buy a little portable bed so I use that for safety.
We are going to try really hard next week to not cave in and let him soothe himself while in the crib. I might do the air mattress thing. That sounds good! Thankfully when he's with me he sleeps anywhere from 6-9 hours at a time. Not looking forward to the 4 month sleep regression.
LO is in leap 3 and the past couple of nights we've been up every 2 hours. Plus she may have a UTI. We're still cosleeping, but I think once we get over this hump we'll be transitioning her to her crib.
well last night LO slept through the night for the first time. I gave him 4oz bottle right after his bath and put him down at around 7pm. I woke up before my alarm at 5am and realized he didn't wake once. I'm so conformed to his usual, I thought maybe he stopped breathing and freaked but checked him and he was fine. #proudmama
Well yesterday's great naps did not translate to a great overnight. #4monthsleepregressionsucks She still woke every two hours. On the nose. One time I did NOT pick her up, got her her binky and helped her back to sleep while she was in the crib. I knew she wasn't hungry. That worked that one time at least. Ugh!!

For those of you with nap/sleep issues...leap 3 maybe? I feel ya, though! A not sleeping baby is the hardest. Creepy internet hugs!
ETA I think she'd sleep for hours if she could just sleep with/on me. Ugh!! That's just not practical for overnight sleep. Hopefully we can correct these issues this week!!
