So I just came back from the doctor's. For this u/s they found a fetal pole measuring 5 wks and 6 days with a heartbeat of 65. I'm pretty sure of my dates. Doctor wants to see me next week because the heartbeat was low. She said it is definitely an improvement from seeing nothing last week. Shocked about everything and still not feeling optimistic. Doc won't say the chances of miscarriage. Anyone else have this happen??? EDD would be 6/10.

Thanks for all your kind words - Talked to the nurse. My HCG levels are 22,000. She wants me to go for another ultrasound next Friday to measure the sac. I'm sure it's best practices to make sure the pregnancy is not viable before discussing options. Honestly, I'm not holding out much hope considering there was no fetal pole or heartbeat and the sac was measuring 2 weeks behind.

I was looking for the original post with the updated version added to it. But it sounds like there was some growth and a heartbeat on top of that so those are great reasons to be optimistic! Were you going off by lmp or ovulation for when you thought you were due?

I was going off lmp. I offered to look up ovulation date for the nurse but she was not interested in it. When I told the ultrasound tech last week she said I orob miscarried and my body absorbed the embryo and that could be why I had an empty sac

@SP128 crossing my fingers hard for you we were told that my son (baby A) was expected to be a vanishing twin due to slow growth and a low heartbeat, he ultimately pulled through. Hopefully yours will be a similar situation.

Alright that makes more sense. If I went off on my lmp I would end up with a EDD of 5/5 but my cycles are long and very irregular. I actually refused to disclose the date of my LMP to my midwife because it caused frustrations with the nurse at the last place I went to when I had my m/c earlier this year. Anyways I told them that based on ovulation, I should be due around 5/19 and baby measured exactly that so theyre taking my word for it.

Do you get to go in again soon to check on growth?

fx for you. I think that seeing a heartbeat, even a slow one, after there having been an empty sac, is a good sign.

When I went for an US because I had had bleeding (which turned out to be an sch), I measured at 5w6d instead of 6w5d. I was going off of lmp so I figured it was possible I was off, though not by quite that much given when I got my positive test.

Anyway, when they found a hb I was glad, but it was somewhat slow. I expressed concern and they said in the beginning (when it measures right around 5-6 weeks) it does tend to be slow. Sure enough, when I went in a couple of weeks later for my regular appointment, they were able to do another scan on this really low tech equipment. I actually couldn't even see the hb but the midwife swore it was there and I asked, "is it slow?" and she said no, and tapped it out. Honestly I'll still feel better when they are able to find a hb on the doppler and it is a good speed (hopefully in 2 weeks at my next appointment), but I wanted to tell you all of this to give you that info that it is common for the initial hb to be slow.

I really hope you get a good update on Thursday. I'm sorry you have to go through the waiting game until then.

@kat81 I remember reading about your scare and was so relieved that everything turned out ok! It is reassuring that sometimes it's not the worst case scenario. I've been looking online obsessively. I'm crossing my fingers that the heart rate is slow because they caught it when it just started beating. I'm also crossing my fingers that my dates were off someway/somehow and that I ovulated late, fertilized late and implanted late and that's why there is such a big discrepancy of how pregnant I thought I was and apparently how pregnant I am. Here's hoping that you here a good strong heart beat in 2 weeks!!

I hope you have a good update soon as well! I can't remember when you got your positive test, but that could be an indication of whether your dates were off. If you took it at what you thought was 4 weeks along (right when you would have expected your period) or even earlier than that and it was easily positive, then you could only be off by about 5 days at most. But if you took your test days after missing your period, then you could easily be off by quite a lot.

For my first two I was tracking ovulation with temping and opks and I ended up testing early out of impatience for both of them. I got a positive test 3 days before my expected period date with #1 and 4-5 days before my period with #2. The test was EXTREMELY faint for #2 so I really think that's about as far back as one can go and get a positive. This time I took the test right when I would have expected my period, or even the next day, but it was still kind of faint anyway. I bet I did ovulate later. I wasn't tracking this time.

@kat81 I got my BFP on 9/6 using HPT and then had HCG levels done on 9/7 to confirm..... I was due to get my period around 9/6. This is why I am sooo nervous about this. The tests didn't lie but yet bean is so small that it could only be detected last week..

@kat81 One more thing, when I was meeting with the doctor after my ultrasound I told her when I got my BFP. She said I would expect that I would be able to get a BFP by 9/7. She went off the dates of the size of the embryo. Maybe she has secret knowledge? I'm trying to stop trying to understand it and accept it as a positive that there was a fetal pole and a heartbeat.
