@MoonOverGoldsboro I feel your pain! Fleas are always the worst here during this time of year. I ended up taking my pup to the vet to get a rx for an oral flea preventative (Trifexis I believe) because the topical preventative just wasn't cutting it and she actually said lots of those topical solutions have been around so long, fleas are beginning to gain an immunity to them. My dog is also allergic to flea saliva and her skin would severely dry out so there weren't enough oils in her skin to absorb the frontline and the fleas never got better. I've washed all her bedding as well as my own in super hot water and then ran them all through the dry cycle twice. I ordered an organic flea spray from Amazon (I think it was about $10) it's made with peppermint oil and clove extract. Not only is it safe to spray on furniture and carpet, but it is safe to spray directly on your pet as well (safe for both cats and dogs). I think it's called Vet's+Best Flea and tick home spray. It comes in a green bottle. I love it because it doesn't have all the harsh chemicals that other pesticides have.
I wanted to add a strong personal recommendation for the Seresto Flea & Tick collars. I've used them on both of our dogs since day one because we get an enormous number of deer in our yard. So far, we've never had to pick any ticks off the dogs, which is pretty common for dog owners in the area, nor seen any fleas. Also, I love that I only have to think about it every six months.
My DH hates the idea of the flu shot but he's agreed and signed up for an appointment to get it next week when they offer them through our work. I already got mine the week it was available. I was shocked my dad who is a conspiracy theorist and thinks that vaccines could include mind control drugs among other more realistic things actually got a flu shot this year without me asking him to so that made me happy. Then my mother went on a rant on how the only time she got the flu was when she got the shot and I told her it's not possible for it to cause the flu which she started disagreeing with and then had to change the subject before she pissed me off even more so I hope she gets one anyways or I don't want her around the baby.

@MoonOverGoldsboro gahhhh! Goodluck to you with the fleas! I got itchy just reading your post! Any kind of infestation is the worst.
My MBF.... what's up with people asking or telling me if I'm walking and active during this pregnancy? Several aunts keep reminding me to be "active" everytime I talk to them. And this weekend, my MIL asked my husband if I'm walking or just laying around??? WTF? That was the most insulting. I'm not one to be lazy. If I am taking a nap or something it's cuz I'm tired or I probably didn't sleep well during the night. Also, my MIL is severely obese and doesn't do anything except sit around and gossip. The times I've been with her, I've tried to encourage her to at least go for a walk outside and she refused. So that really pissed me off. I told my husband "you should ask her if she's been walking and being active." If she says that to my face ever, I will definitely call her out. She thinks cuz she's had 7 kids she knows EVERYTHING. Please.
@MLRocha The Seresto collar is actually what we were using when we found the first fleas. The pup had been on Advantix for a long time, and we made the switch because 1) the collar is so much more cost-effective; 2) I HATE monthly topical application; and 3) our vet recommended it. We switched back to the Advantix upon the flea sighting, but so far, the fleas persist.
I am super bummed about the collar, because it had so many advantages. It did seem to work really well for the first 5 months...maybe it just lost its effectiveness early? I'm not sure what to think!

My MBF is the city is replacing the asphalt on our dead end street, two other dead end streets in our subdivision, and the street used to access these dead end streets. I mean I'm happy it's being replaced and I'm not paying for it, but they tore up the asphalt a week ago and we've had a dirt road while it's rained and now the leaves are turning & falling. I'm not looking forward to the smell of fresh asphalt but I just want them to get on with it!
@MoonOverGoldsboro - That's too bad. I know some of the effectiveness can vary based on hair length and how many baths they get. Both of my pups are short hair and don't get super regular baths, like every other month or when they start to smell dog-like. Also, I always change mine at six months even though it says they last eight... mostly because it's easier for me to remember January/July than different months each year.
May I have another MBF? It's freaking hot here the past two days. Hot and humid. And our apartment building already turned off the air conditioning. So with my asthma, I'm really struggling here.
I just got back from the desert and everything is annoying. ILs fed my kid fast food for every meal, let him be an asshole, he napped terribly today so he pretty much sucks right now. Then I got home and they just started mudding my walls for the tile so my house is a fucking MESS. And we have 800 loads of laundry to do and stuff to put away and I'm tired.
*TW maybe* On the way to the mailbox today I got stopped by a lady I occasionally chat with. She asked if I'd lost this one too, because it's been a few months since I told her I was pregnant, and she knew about my previous loss. I told her nope, we're on track and baby is healthy. She said "oh I'm so sorry, it's just that you don't look pregnant at all!" Not really sure how to take that one. Pretty sure she meant well, it just definitely caught me off guard.
H is also being stubborn about the flu shot. I need to convince him ASAP!
Mine is minor in comparison but I got woken up at 4am with a charlie horse and my leg has been sore all day. My dog puked in 3 rooms this morning. I was exhausted all day at work and my boss keeps scheduling impromptu meetings around lunch time so i didn't get a real lunch break. Got home and I'm sore, tired and my back is killing me. Only to start coughing and having congestion issues. Oh, and I'm coughing stuff up and losing my voice. I leave town tomorrow, I hope I don't have a cold!
@MrsLittleMac that is so rude omg. Why do people think that is even remotely okay to say? *possoble tw* I lost two babies before this one and when I announced this pregnancy, so many people asked me "well are the doctors going to do something about this one?" It was so rude and inappropriate. As if the doctors could've done something the first two times. Some people have no tact.
@MrsLittleMac my face was a mix of shock and horror at that comment. You handled that comment with grace, I don't know if I could have contained my "What the fuck" face in the same situation.
Thanks all, I feel validated now lol. I kind of wondered if it was even BF worthy--but yes, I was taken aback. She's definitely older and a bit lacking in the social-skills department but I know she meant well by it. Part of me wonders if it's a generational thing, or maybe just an "old people give no fucks" thing. I swear though if I do have another kid after this one I'm not telling a soul irl until I have to. The comments about my body, the foods I eat, etc... it's like people open up the flood gates and let all the stupid thoughts pour out.
@MrsLittleMac Idk how I missed your story-- Im so sorry you've had people make comments about your loss! That is so insensitive. You are not responsible for those outcomes. And to suggest otherwise is insensitive, ignorant and cruel. Good for you for handling it with such grace!

It is only 6:30 but H sent me to bed. Ugh.
