Stupid Question Sunday 8/2

Re: Stupid Question Sunday 8/2

  • @Jellybeanqueen13  didn't know they made saltine goldfish. I'll have to keep an eye out for them.

My morning sickness has been waves of nausea and dizziness. Like I'm on an amusement park ride I want very badly to get off of. This morning was the worse. Probably because I waited too long to eat something after waking up. I had to sit with my eyes closed and breathe deeply until it passed. I find it helps to eat something every few hours.

  • @allowachick and @ShadeofGreen816 Spotting is normal for many women, but I would still give your doctor a call and check. I've been having a LOT of spotting so far during my pregnancy. I can't speak to a final outcome yet, but I did have an early ultrasound today because of it and everything looks good at this point. However, because I'm spotting and have a negative blood type, my doctor is having me get a rhogam shot today. It never hurts to check with your doctor.
  • let's see - I did not need to take my wedding rings off for my entire pregnancy. My feet did not get bigger (thankfully!!) They did however, get crazy swollen after I gave birth. It was like I had water on the top of my feet for a week. I had to sleep with my feet raised with pillows to get the swelling down. It was weird.

The only diaper cream I trust is Triple Paste. Amazing for all of DD's diaper rashes. I also only use water wipes for diaper changes. The regular pampers wipes have soap and irritate the rash more so I just use water wipes and avoid all of that.

  • My question is - what nausea is normal or not? On Friday and Saturday, I literally sat all day feeling like I was going to throw up (but never did). I couldn't eat ANYTHING either day without dry heaving. Then all the sudden yesterday, just like that, I was fine again. I worry that my "symptoms" have gone away - unless the nausea wasn't a symptom at all and was something else? I still feel a little tired (although last night I stayed up super late and could not figure out why i wasn't exhausted) so the PGAL brain in my is going wild. I'm a "seasoned" mom with this being #3 but I am still a worry wart. I figured at 8 weeks my symptoms would be getting worse, not going away. I know symptoms change all the time - but having none at all makes me nervous.

    To other ladies questions:
    - my fingers never swelled with my two boys. However, I stayed very active both pregnancies and definitely made sure to take my rings off at night as my fingers would be swollen in the morning, pregnant or not!
    - my feet did grow - they are about half a size bigger than they used to be
    - I only had spotting with my losses, but this is all anecdotal because many healthy pregnancies can have spotting!

To further clarify on the foot growing question, for those that went up a size was that just during pregnancy or are you saying your feet remain larger now? (my feet growing terrifies me)

My stupid question - what does morning sickness feel like?  I end up with waves of something similar to motion sickness starting in early afternoon through dinner time.  No vomiting yet, just a gross, sick feeling.  Is this MS? Something else?
    1. For me, I would've sworn my feet didn't change at all. But some of the shoes I owned did fit tighter. Then, when shoe shopping (like, many months after delivery) it turned out that the next 1/2 size up felt more comfortable, so that's what I bought. Remember: It's not like you can see them growing before your eyes---it's not a horror movie. I wouldn't freak out too much about it. If it happens, it happens. Try not to worry!

    2. Sounds like morning sickness to me. "Waves of sickness," "no vomiting," and "a gross sick feeling" are all good descriptors of what it feels like. This too shall pass. Hang in there! :)
  • Hey @katie0919, I have had the same thing this time around.  I'm pretty much either nauseous and miserable or not nauseous and freaked out.  Yaaaay first tri.  I will say I have had several days where my nausea totally disappears, usually after I've had an especially bad day of it the day before.  Each time it totally freaks me out and each time it has come back within a day or two.
  • I know this was yesterday's thread but I realized I had a question today -- what is the absolute earliest to feel fetal movement? I feel so stupid even asking this because it's called fetal movement and very early on they're not even fetuses yet in first tri.

I felt DS super early--so early that I assumed that's not what was going on (they say it's not possible to feel movement so early for #1) until I realized it really was as it intensified and I was right all along. It was about 14 weeks. With DD I had an anterior placenta or whatever it's called, so I didn't feel movement until like 18 weeks or so and it was never as dramatic as DS's movement.

I'm asking now because I'm reminded of movement...no I don't think I could be feeling movement at 8 weeks, but my uterus is...how do I say this...twitchy. Ever since my first pregnancy I have occasionally had a twitchy uterus and it felt like movement even when I was not pregnant. I'm getting that again and I'm reminded of the best (only good?) part of pregnancy. I am looking forward to it. I'm really hoping I don't have an anterior placenta again because it was so fun to see really detailed movements from DS throughout the pregnancy. People could see him move from across the room and/or through several layers of clothing! (He was born in December so I was wearing sweaters all of the time, but you could still see him!)

  • @kat81 I had the same experience with my DS!  I LOVED seeing him move even through clothing, it was so weird but so cool too.
  • I had a twitchy uterus this weekend too and my first thought was that it felt like the baby moving. Then I snapped back to reality and remembered there's no way I would be feeling a baby the size of a blueberry rolling around in there. I had anterior placentas for both of my girls and I'm hoping this one is different.
  • On the ring thing...does anyone have any suggestions on getting your rings off?  My rings are already a little snug pre-pregnancy and I'm worried that I'll wake up one morning and they will be too snug, but I won't be able to get them off.  Getting them off now is an olympic effort.

Edit to add, if you're having that much trouble now, I would go ahead and ditch them. You don't want them to have to cut them off. If you feel naked without your ring get a QALO ring. They are awesome!
  • @kat81  I've been feeling weird stuff too, I just keep telling myself it's my insides moving around.
  • Add me to the twitchy uterus post-first baby club too.  I always meant to bring it up at my yearly appts but then always spaced on it.

allowachick This is my first pregnancy and I honestly never knew that pregnant women could spot or bleed lightly! It was so scary the first time I noticed that I was bleeding. It is actually very common especially if you are on your feet for long periods of time and even after intimacy! I was super relieved when I asked my midwife and she told me that it was normal. Just make sure you to let your Doc know. :)

I should add that I had my US today & Squishy is doing fine! Baby was dancing and everything haha

Remember we are all different & we all experience things differently, but I hope you found this helpful :)

  • @kat81 @bacorrea and @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot that is so we're that you all have experienced that since your first pregnancies.  I actually took a home pregnancy test back in June because I was feeling something that felt just like DS kicking in the early days.  I assumed it was gas but I never felt that sensation prior to pregnancy so maybe it is some weird post-baby uterus shifting.
  • @katie0919 I am in the same boat--nausea (although only mild) for the past week, then woke up today feeling completely normal and no nausea throughout the day. It feels so weird to be seeing that as a bad thing! But it's nice to hear from @RainyDays86 that this can happen, and I've read that elsewhere as well (including other threads on this board). I'm trying to take comfort in that. I'm sure that when/if it comes back, I'll be regretting not enjoying this nausea-free day to its fullest ;)
  • Fetal movement stuff - with my first, I felt the first movements around the end of 14 weeks/beginning of 15 weeks, but generally it's between 16-25 weeks that most first timers notice it.  Second time or more moms may notice movement from as early as 13 weeks from what I read. I have felt those sensations others have described that feel like early kicks but that was probably around when I was 4 weeks and maybe some before this 2nd pregnancy.  It's likely just gas, that perhaps you notice more if your ab muscles aren't what they used to be since before your first pregnancy...

  • I know I am late to the party, but maybe someone can help me. :) I took DS with me to the gyno over the summer when I had my annual and he stayed in his stroller... no big deal. My question is - if you know you are having an ultrasound, is it still ok to take them? I mean... I know it isn't like an x-ray... But I just wanted to check and make sure they're ok to be in the room.
  • I don't think there would be a problem with him being in the same room while you're having an ultrasound. I've never heard of it being a safety issue.
  • @emilyalso I'd check with your practice on their specific rules. I know mine is fine with children in exam rooms but specifically asks for no children under the age of 12 during ultrasounds.

  • @starphish18 yes you'll have to ditch the rings eventually. I think I stopped wearing mine because mainly at night my hands would swell and I'd wake with pain from the cutting of the rings into my skin.
@SP128 my feet did not grow but my friend who is 28 weeks now is having to purchase new shoes already.
@allowachick I had spotting this pregnancy and last pregnancy
    @lrwardrop dr smiths ointment
@kat81 I had it at 13 weeks when laying down for bed with my first
@emilyalso My office says they cannot accompany me into the ultrasound. It is perfectly safe for them I am just not allowed to bring them in I would check with your office for the policy.

  • I'd check with your practice. My practice specifies no children at the first prenatal appointment because it lasts about 2 hours.

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • @emilyalso I have been doing fertility treatments for a while, which means lots of ultrasounds. I'm a SAHM and  brought my daughter to all of mine. Childcare isn't always the easiest to come across, especially last minute like many of my ultrasounds have been. I asked about it and the office was fine with it. I just bring her in a stroller with some entertainment. I will continue to do this with any prenatal ultrasounds.

  • I agree it really depends on the practice. Mine said that they love when the kiddos come along but so far I'm not taking DD with me. My first two appointments overlaps with her nap time so DH is coming home early and my 10wk appt they said it will take upward to two hours, including a pap smear and other testing. going forward, I just plan to ask what to expect and if the appts will be short or long. Most of mine the first go around were very quick except the initial and anatomy scan.
