Stupid Question Sunday 8/2

I like how it was worded last time - "no question too stupid". So, what are yours?

Re: Stupid Question Sunday 8/2

  • Alright, here's one. How much do our fingers swell up later? Those who've been through it, did you have to ditch the wedding rings at some point?
  • Loading the player...
  • @starphish18 I on my last BMB some ladies kept theirs on the whole time and some couldn't. I had to take mine off. I was pretty swollen though at the end.
  • @starphish18 The last 3 months mine wouldn't fit. It was more due to weight gain than swelling though, because I couldn't fit into them until maybe a year after giving birth. I don't remember my hands swelling at all, but the feet/ankle swelling is another story. None of my shoes fit right!

  • I did not have any issues with swelling with my first two! I was pretty fortunate that both times I gained minimum weight and no health problems.

My "stupid" question is more rhetorical- Why on earth is all food sooo good now? I had a craving today for Chinese food- it was beyond good that I had two servings! There is no way I am going to gain only the minimum weight this time.
  • @bacorrea and @Jellybeanqueen13 Did either of you buy a cheap "replacement"? Just to have something there?
  • @starphish18 DH and I wear QALO rings now! No more than $25 and they are awesome! If you're wanting a replacement, or something to wear later due to weight swelling. Either way they make you take your jewelry off st the hospital in case of an emergency csection (if I'm remembering correctly).

I've never had to take my rings off for my last two pregnancies, but I also remember to take them off every night in case the next morning they wojld
    be too tight.

@bacorrea I got my husband a Qualo ring for work and it's great! I really want one for the gym!

EDIT- I wore my rings at the hospital through my delivery too!

  • @starphish18 I had really bad swelling and ditched the rings at 28 weeks right  after my baby shower, they fit about a week after delivery (a little big even).

  • My stupid question is feet growing?  Experienced mamas, did you experience this?  I'm dreading my shoes not fitting anymore and having to buy all new ones!

  • @SP128 I was all over the place with my feet. In the last 6 weeks my bp went crazy and thanks to swelling basically nothing for except foldable ballet flats. They went down a ton after the swelling went away but I was still up about a half size and had to ditch $$$ in shoes because even after getting to a lower weight than pre pregnancy they wouldn't fit anymore.

The relaxin hormone which is supposed to make your hips give for delivery can also cause the bones in your feet to spread. Hooray collateral damage!

  • No I didn't need to remove my rings. I will say my feet changed sizes. Had to buy new shoes towards the end of one pregnancy.
  • @starphish18 I didn't. I thought about it, but honestly, by that point I had so many other things on my mind, I just never got around to it, then pop- baby was here!  :D

  • I had to take my rings off at the end of my pregnancy with DS. But it was also July and like 100 degrees night and day.

My feet did not go up a size. But once again, it was July and all I wore were flip flops

  • I wore my rings all throughout my pregnancy and in the hospital during delivery. They were a little snug though. Also my feet did not change size. They were very swollen near the end but that's to be expected. Now something I wasn't expecting was getting a fupa! Lol. Luckily that went away.
  • Ok my stupid question is: how many of you ladies have experienced spotting? I know it's common and light spotting and brown discharge are usually harmless. But I just started getting really light, brown colored spotting/discharge around the time of month AF used to show up before I got pregnant, and I'm craving some pollster data and reassurance from my bumpies
  • I had brown discharge around 5 weeks and I'm carrying 2 healthy babies

  • No foot size change here.

To go along with the ring/foot change, I will say for those mamas who wear glasses/contacts, don't freak out when your eyes start to get worse. They actually recommend no prescription change for your eye glasses/contacts while pregnant or breastfeeding because it's most likely just temporary. I can already tell my eyes have changed again with this third pregnancy.

  • My feet went up about a 1/2 size. I had to give some of my favorite shoes to my sister.

I haven't experienced spotting with either of my pregnancies.
  • I could still wear my ring toward the end of my first pregnancy. I had minimal swelling but possibly because I was working an officr job where I constantly propped my feet up. Either or I just lucked out.

I still fit in most of my shoes from before DD but a couple of pumps got way too tight so I ended up donating those. When I shop for new shoes, I go up a half size now. It was kind of expected since my mom mentioned it happened to her.

  • With DS1 my rings came off right at about 26 weeks, but unbeknownst to me I was developing pre eclampsia and HELLP. My feet swelled up that last month. I had him at 30 weeks and the swelling completely went away the week he was born. My sister has 5 kids and says her foot size increased slightly with each. She ended up a full size larger shoe.

As far as spotting, I had a little spotting the weekend after my transvaginal ultrasound and pap. I was scared because it never happened in my previous pregnancies, but luckily everything is fine.

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

  • @starphish18 My swelling came and went but I've never had to remove my rings permanently.
@MamaMiller I have already gained more weight than I care to admit haha! I blame it on the fact that it's my fourth :p
@SP128 My feet are slightly larger but nothing outrageous. The swelling is what made me need different shoes and that was mainly post delivery when I tend to balloon up
@allowachick I've only ever had blood and spotting with my losses but I know MANY women who have had it with more than one pregnancy and everything was fine <3

  • @SP128 my feet grew about 1/2 a size.

@allowachick I had spotting and big bleeds all throughout my last (twin) pregnancy.  I had some complications with the blood thinner I was on and that might have been a reason the bleeding was so bad.

  • My rings came off at about 30 weeks with DS due to swelling. They fit again about 6 weeks after I delivered. My feet are the same size now as pre-pregnancy, but around the same time my shoe selection became pretty limited bc my feet were swollen as well. It was December and I lived in an old pair of Uggs.

I had a little spotting with DS and had a very healthy pregnancy. It was usually after an exam or sex.
  • @starphish18 my fingers swelled up and 14 months after giving birth...I still can't get my engagement ring back on!
My stupid question... knowing the difference between a stomach bug and morning sickness. I've been up all night vomitting. So far I've only had nausea in this pregnancy and I still feel rotten this morning, like I'm going to be sick again. Stomach is rumbling and bubbling,  belching loads but no diarrhoea or fever... is this just morning sickness or a bug??
  • Alright, here's one. How much do our fingers swell up later? Those who've been through it, did you have to ditch the wedding rings at some point?
#1 -- never took rings off. #2 -- took them off for about a month at the end.

I'm not sure mine grew but I think they did at some point. I never had existing shoes give me problems, but found that when I went to get new ones, I seemed to be a larger size.

Oh I'm so sorry! To me that sounds like a bug or maybe food poisoning since your nausea wasn't that bad before and this is repeated. Call your doctor in the morning and feel better!!

  • what's everyones favorite diaper rash cream? my DS is 1 and has been having some diarrhea and now has his first real diaper rash. I have been using butt paste and dr.smiths but neither one seems to be making the rash go away.
  • To further clarify on the foot growing question, for those that went up a size was that just during pregnancy or are you saying your feet remain larger now? (my feet growing terrifies me)

My stupid question - what does morning sickness feel like?  I end up with waves of something similar to motion sickness starting in early afternoon through dinner time.  No vomiting yet, just a gross, sick feeling.  Is this MS? Something else?
    Lilypie Maternity tickers
  • @MTB16, I haven't had vomiting with any of my pregnancies, but waves of nausea, exactly as you described. It feels like I'm going to get sick, my stomach kind of "rolls", if that makes sense? Sometimes it'll last just a few min., and sometimes it just lingers. Definitely sounds like Ms to me. Try mints or hard candy (or something similar) to help keep it at bay.
  • @lrwardrop aquaphor to prevent and destinin with zinc oxide (purple tube) to heal. Use warm water and super soft paper towel instead of wipes and plenty of air time after each diaper change.

  • @lrwardrop I'm the peds clinic I have shadowed in for NP school, they like to recommend Bag Balm. It comes in a green tin and smells terrible but works great.

My my stupid question is:*TMI?*  Brown discharge is generally ok, right? I know if I get really co center I'll call the Dr but I'm looking for some validation haha. I had a fair amount of brown discharge this morning. Mostly when I was sitting on the toilet but if I hadn't gotten up from bed and gone straight to the bathroom I'm sure it would have been in my undies.
  • @lrwardrop not sure how easy it is to find where you live but I work at a hospital with an employee pharmacy. Every time a friend has a baby I stock them up on baby meds and creams. They have all loved Rezinol. It comes in a small white tub with a lid. Here is a link for it on Amazon:

  • thanks for the tips! !!

  • @MTB16 I can't help you with the foot growing thing since mine didn't change at all with DS, but the motion sickness you're describing sounds very much like morning sickness to me.  I don't usually throw up with MS but get waves of nausea (gross, sick feeling describes it pretty well).  I also tend to get it in the evenings more than any other time.
  • Alright, here's one. How much do our fingers swell up later? Those who've been through it, did you have to ditch the wedding rings at some point?
Mine never swelled to the point where I had to take them off with my two previous pregnancies.

  • @MTB16 My feet grew 1/2 size and remain 1/2 size larger. I don't understand how that happens, but it did. I am a size 10 now, so with this twin pregnancy, I am also terrified for them to grow larger, lol!

I know morning sickness varies from person to person, but for me, it comes in random waves of nausea. I rarely have actually vomited in any of my three pregnancies. I find that I can keep it under control by not eating too much, not letting myself get hungry, and eating sour (like lemonade or sour candy) or carby foods (my favorite is saltine goldfish). Sometimes I also get morning sickness when I stand up too long or don't drink enough water.
