Re: Labor and All of it's Glory

  • So funny we are wanting to see our mucus plugs at this point :P  Mine must be made of steel because so far, no signs of it budging  :|

  • @scostel2 - Interesting! Maybe I haven't missed it then. Not that I want to see the nasty thing... I just don't understand how it could still be in there at this point lol.

  • @CopperBoom86 I'm with you! I assumed it was gone and then got a surprise haha.
  • @scostel2 - gross question (sorry) but can you feel that it's come out? Like did you know to look because something felt different? Or are you just looking every time you go to the bathroom and happened to notice.

question for everyone- what makes your doc decide to do a membrane sweep early? I'm 38 weeks this week and would LOVE for my doctor to help get things moving if possible but I don't know what warrants trying that.
  • **TMI**

@bnsmith85 I don't think I lost all of mine but for me, I got up to pee for 400th time and when I wiped, it felt like there was something there but it was dark and I didn't turn the light on. Then as I was walking back to bed, it felt like I peed a little so I went back to wipe again and there it was.

  • @bnsmith85  I felt it when I wiped. It was (sorry gross!) more.... solid? than when I usually wipe and so I looked and then I could clearly see it was bloody. Pregnancy is beautiful lol
  • I never saw my MP with DS. For all I know it came out during labor. It may not ever make an appearance. My water didn't break with DS until I started to push.

@bnsmith85- re: membrane sweep, my OB just offered it with the cervical check when I was 39 weeks with DS. Not sure why, really - just part of the service? Lol. They didn't offer this time but I made it pretty clear that I'm happy to go overdue. I haven't even had a cervix check for fear that it will get things started up.

@ibabyloveb87- idk your due date but I'm pretty sure I'm your #1 competition for "week overdue" baby. Though I'd imagine you'd be happy to let me have the title
  • @NoraAurora I'm 10/10 so next Monday. I'm asking about a membrane sweep today because I feel like I still won't have made any progress. We shall see.

I will definitely let you win the late contest if you want  ;)

  • I think my doc is going to look at me like I'm a crazy person... but I still might ask about a sweep  :#
  • Does the membrane sweep hurt? I thought I'd heard somewhere on here or somewhere else that it can hurt. Just curious in case it's offered to me at any point.

Nah, it's uncomfortable at the most I say. But then again, everybody and every pain tolerance differs. Personally, it just seems like a little bit rougher cervical check.

    apparently, yes. It does.
I saw a lady going into a room before me last week who was very pregnant and I heard her yelling in pain for a few seconds, then everything sounded okay and everyone was talking and laughing again. I assume she had a membrane sweep.

oh good! I hope it doesn't! I'm hoping to talk my doc into it this week or next

Wow really? I had to clench my teeth, but I totally wouldn't have yelled or anything... like I said, different bodies, different tolerances I reckon.
  • Thanks @AllyTheKid and @bnsmith85 , sounds like it definitely depends on your personal pain tolerance.
  • I didn't think it was that bad with DS but it may depend on your cervix position.
  • @bnsmith85 Ekkkk hope it doesn't hurt THAT bad. I've always heard it's just uncomfortable at most. I'll let you know if I get it?? I have a feeling they're not going to do it until next week's appointment when I'm overdue for some reason, but I have no idea.

  • @bnsmith85 They said they'd do a sweep if I'm dilated since I'm GBS negative. Waiting for the dr now.....

@AllyTheKid or anyone else...how soon did a sweep cause labor? I know it didn't do anything for my cousin but I've also heard it can start as soon as that day. Guess it depends?

  • @ibabyloveb87 whoop whoop! Are you 39 weeks?
  • @bnsmith85 Yep. They won't do it before 39.

Also the AC needs to work better. I'm sweating like crazy in this room.

  • @ibabyloveb87 Let us know how it goes! I'm debating getting one on Wednesday
  • I was GBS+ with DS and they had no problem doing a sweep
  • @bnsmith85 @SpaceBurger Well y'all will have to find out for yourselves how that goes because my body is stubborn and I'm still not dilated. Convincing myself more and more than I'm going to have to be induced. Sigh.  :(

  • @ibabyloveb87 - so to confirm that I'm reading correctly, your OB wouldn't do the sweep unless you're dilated?
I'm completely ignorant about all of this, so excuse the dumb question here. When I googled earlier today (ya know, bc Google knows all), I thought I read that someone said their OB did a sweep without them being dilated. Is that not everyone else's experience? Just trying to educate myself a little lol
  • @bnsmith85 From what I understand and I'm no expert, yes, because they can't get in there to do the sweep.

  • @ibabyloveb87- I'm secretly hoping someone says their OB did it even though they weren't dilated bc, although I haven't been checked yet, I have zero expectations of being dilated or effected... At all
  • @ibabyloveb87 I started having contractions immediately, but I had to go in to be induced to start active labor the following morning. This was baby #3 and I've never gone into labor on my own so I can't really offer any insight there.
  • Good luck @Mintz1982!! Eyes on the prize (aka baby + cheesecake)!!
  • Congrats @LGW2015 and @Selena2016

Has anyone heard an update on @annabenanna
  • @LGW2015 Oh my gosh, he is gorgeous and looks just like you! Congratulations mama!!
  • Welp... Mention the mucus plug in the morning, meet the mucus plug that night.

At least part of it just came out.

    GROSS.
I had never seen parts of it before until this pregnancy, BLECH!
  • Congrats @strickland8052

@CopperBoom86 I lost my MP last week, and I'm still waiting for something interesting to happen! I don't think baby wants to come out anytime soon.
