@kswiger06 i think that feb & the arrival of your little boy will be an extremely difficult time for your sister. A conflict of emotions of happiness and joy for you but also highlighting the devestation of her loss & grief that her little boy is no longer there, that she will not get to experience all the things she should have the way you will be. If you decide to use the name, i think you need to tell her in advance & discuss it with her & let her get used to the idea for a while rather than it being a total surprise which may create resentment.

@kswiger06 - I totally missed this yesterday, sorry. I would say as much as you like the name William....maybe it would be best to not use it. You and your sister seem close (and you should def try and connect more with her, just don't discuss pregnancy, it seems like she is reaching out to you and probably needs your company), and it seems like she wouldn't get pissed off at you, but it might be digging into a wound everytime she hears the name or sees her nephew. It would probably be extra hard on her. I do like the idea of using Liam, if you like that name. On the other hand, the idea of using it to honor your nephew is very sweet, but I would still worry about how emotional it will be for her. I am an extra sensitive person, so I tend to over think stuff and over worry about people's feelings sometimes. It is so sweet and supportive of you to consider her feelings, so make sure you don't avoid her. I think you both would feel better being more connected, and given she contacted you and asked about your pregnancy, she is still reaching out for that bond with you. It is a tough tough thing when we lose a loved one, and especially a baby. I think in your heart you know the best decision for the name and also the relationship with your sister...and hopefully all of the advice you got makes you feel more secure in your choices as well.

I'm late to this one and I'm sorry your whole family is going through this. I loved @FreshBakedBrownies suggestion of having a conversation to ask if you could use the name to honor her son. I think that makes it so different from just letting her know you were thinking about using that name. It turns it into a really nice gesture on your part to honor her son with the name of your son. I don't know how she would feel about that, but I think it would be a well received conversation in any event, even if she said she would prefer you not to use it.

Another thing that I'd like to throw out there, is if you do ask her how she feels about the possibility of you using that name, that you ask her in text or email or something.
That way she won't feel put on the spot and can really have time to think out her response.

@kswiger06, I'm sorry I'm late to this too. William is a wonderful name, it was my grandfathers name as well. However, I'm with the majority on here that if this was my sister and I, I would stay away from naming your son this. I just think it would be too painful for your sis. I'm sure she doesn't want everyone to just forget what happened and that she'll always want her baby to be remembered, but I just think naming your boy that would be a constant reminder to her of what should have been. For a middle name, this might not be such an issue and she may also feel honored by it. Plus then you would still get to use the name you love so much.

Someone else already mentioned this, but I know if it were my sister and I (if this happened to one or the other) we would both swallow the lump in our throats, smile and say go ahead and name the baby that, even if in our hearts we really didn't want that to happen. If this happened with us, we would have to discuss it through email and text because we live far away from one another, but I would prefer in person if possible for something like this regardless of reaction or time to process. Everyone is different though. How are you doing btw with all this? Have you been able to reconnect more with your sis lately? Also, congrats on your baby boy!

We have finalized a name.
I had originally wanted this name and H said no..... then it turned out to be his great grandmas first name.
So, that changed his opinion and we are using her mn too.
Hannah Jane.

I love the name @Spicyweiner that literally is my first choice- first and middle if this one is a girl. But dh likes a different name more, so we'll see what happens. Especially because we don't even know sex yet.

After finding out we're having a boy yesterday, we've started a list of names both of us like enough to consider... So far:

Theodore (my absolute favorite, Theo as nn)
Harold (family name, Harry as nn)
Louis
Dexter
Felix
Konrad

Now, I don't really like Konrad, but I am letting it stay on the table for now. H is insistent on the K spelling, since it's the German way (he's half German, and really into German names), but it feels very... Kardashian-y. Between that and the only nn being Konnie (or, as H insists, Rad), I'm just not keen on it.

We are still toying with using one of our pets' names as a middle name, partially because they make good middle names (Duke and Montgomery), partially because they are really important to us, and also we like to amuse ourselves. It's not like anyone outside our families/friends would know. And I like the sound of Theodore Montgomery and Harold Duke.

So me and Hub downloaded the tinder baby name app haha.. and we may have found a name we like!

We're leaning towards Declan. Our older son is Marshall, so as you can tell we go for names that aren't unheard of, but not quite popular. We're still playing with it, but H has talked to belly a few times with the name and he kicks and bobs around so... we shall see.

@spicyweiner That's my niece's name and I love it. She's a sweet baby too, so it makes it even prettier. My sister gets compliments on it all the time too. So good choice!

We had a boy name set and found out it's a girl. And all of a sudden everything I loved just doesn't feel right. The reality of socking a name on a person FOREVER is much harder than I thought. I used to think people were insane who didn't have names right away, and here I am.

Right now we have it narrowed to Kate, Elise, and Lily. We have a longer Ukranian complicated last name, so we want something simple and short. I like them all, but can't pull the trigger. I am hoping to have it narrowed down by Christmas. Or by the time she's 5.

I'm not anywhere near LA and I know 3 Declans in my toddler's social circles. One is 3.5, the other two Declans we know are 2. I think it's becoming quite popular. Nice name though!

H and I have a list of names going. We write down names we like on the list - only names we are both willing to consider. Yesterday, I noticed he wrote "Wolfgang" on the list. I crossed it off. I told him this morning that we're not naming our son Wolfgang, and he seemed genuinely disappointed. I just can't get on board with that, though. Luckily, we have a bunch of other names neither of us dislike, so we'll get there eventually.

Hannah was (still kinda is) a strong contender for us as well! H is the one who suggested it.

We're still throwing other names around but still very much undecided. We already had our boy name picked out of course.

I worked with a kid named Wolfgang Amadeus. We called him Wolf. I would reference Wolf or Wolfgang and EVERY SINGLE PERSON would say, "Are you serious?" And they didn't even hear the middle name. So that would be super annoying! It's one thing to have people mispronounce your name, but to ask if that's really your name would get really old.

@leslie1331 I feel so sure that I heard my mom and younger brother use that Wolfgang kids name in conversation before. I looked in the spreadsheet to see you are in ohio, I am too! So what I'm wondering is if you know the kid from cleveland, or if you moved there recently or if he moved there recently.

@kswiger06 defitely from Cleveland!! (Well from Cincy, moved here after I got married.) It has to be the same guy!! He's like 23 now. I believe he's actually from out East, like Mentor/Painesville/Madison area, I forget which one. He was hilarious for what it's worth.
