September/October IVF

Re: September/October IVF

  • ER this morning went great 24 retrieved, 17 mature. Still waiting to hear about fertilization.
I did not have a good time after though! I had a full bladder and the little bit of cramping so they have me a a percocet and extra strength Tylenol.  In about 3 minutes I got so nauseous I passed out right there on the stretcher. Drama ensued, we stayed about 2 extra hours and finally vomited the percocet! I'm not surprised but disappointed in how I my body reacted.

We are likely freezing all now because of the cystic appearance of my uterine lining.
Thanks for the encouragement,  I'm going back to sleep.

  • Just got the fertilization report. Of the 29 retrieved, only 12 fertilized. Feeling kind of bummed, especially since they don't give us any other updates until we show up for transfer on Friday.  We don't have any MFI, so the clinic didn't choose to use ICSI.  I was still expecting a higher fertilization rate, even without the ICSI.

  • @sleepyrn I am still in the middle of my first cycle but I also didn't start with BCP.  Like you they waited for me to start AF and then started me right on Follistim which I've been on for the past 8 days (with dosages decreasing the past 2 days), and introducing Ganirelix for the past 3 days.  I am going every day for monitoring and am anticipating ER on Thursday or Friday, depending on how tomorrow's monitoring goes.

@jessaber0414 glad you made it through ER and sounds like you had some great numbers!  Hope you have a smooth recovery from the post-retrieval drama, yikes!  R&R for you :)

@Monica54321 that still looks like a really good number to me!  Fingers crossed that those 12 thrive!

  • @JESSABER0414 & @Monica54321

Geezes. I would kill for those kind of numbers lol. I think they are wonderful even with the negatives on top. ;) Stay positive! And I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both!!

    For us it was:
    - 1st retrieval was 3 retrieved with 2 fertilizing
    - 2nd retrieval was 7 retrieved with 7 fertilizing
    - Come on round #3!

  • jodes727 wow your clinic does the pgd testing no matter what?  interesting.  Its so expensive by me and i'm just afraid to do it.  best of luck to u!!

Monica54321 those are great numbers mama!!!  lets home those are the strong ones and those are ur lil embabies!!  Your DH must've had a great sample if they did all natural.  I know its hard we all want the most possible!!  12 is amazing!!  I have low amh and on my last cycle wouldve been lucky to just get 4 maybe...and thats just being mature.  I'm sorry you're bummed, but you're still in it, you've got this.  hang in there!!!  Friday is going to be an awesome day, i'm so excited for you!!

JESSABER0414 OH MY!!!  sorry you had to go through all that!  everyone always says it will be worth it in the end.  best of luck!  hoping all your eggs fertilize and you have great numbers.  You're already ahead of the game.  thanks for the update and feel better soon!

sleepyrn hmmmm thats intersting.  I did 2 cycles of stemming but I never used bcp as I have low amh so thats my reasoning.  best of luck to you!!

Nellin thanks, i'm not over thinking anything and really just thinking whats next :( ugh praying this could be it!!!  Very true what u say and since I have low amh it frightens me each month i lose eggs that i will have none left :(  what season of good wife are u up to?

  • @Hoping4Success Yay, that's awesome they all fertilized!!!

@Monica54321 Glad to hear the retrieval went well! Sorry that a lot of them didn't fertilize, but hoping those 12 will all be great quality!

@Nellin That sounds awesome, I hope you continue to get great news this week!

@mumsasters Welcome! I hope your retrieval went well today!

@JESSABER0414 FX for a great fertilization report, hope you get lots of rest today and are feeling better soon!

I had my baseline bw and us today and got a call that I'm all set to start shots tonight! Excited to get started, but a bit nervous about the side effects.

  • @Hopeful_mom sorry if I didn't e plain it well... we did PGS testing and it was optional, but highly recommended, by my doctor.  We paid about $2200 for it. I am 35 and we have had four losses already, and that is why she felt as though it was a good idea to do it. We only had three embryos make it today six and out of those three we have two healthy ones.

Afm,  today I had my trial transfer and saline ultrasound. Both went well, and I was happy to hear that. Then we had our consult with my doctor and that went well too. I'll start on Lupron on Friday to get ready for FET on 11/3.
  • @JESSABER0414 Hope you are feeling a bit better now and are being looked after! Congratulations on great numbers and good luck for fertilisation report

@Monica54321 I know it must feel like a bad rate of fertilisation but 12 is still fantastic!

@Esperer good luck, hope you get to trigger soon!

@Hopeful_mom Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm lucky PCOS means I have super high AMH (PCOS is finally good for something). I'm up to season 4 of the good wife :)

@meli123k I hope you react well to the drugs but still feel alright!

@jodes727 Glad to hear you have two healthy embryos, here's hoping they are sticky as anything!

AFM: so I was really surprised and concerned when AF arrived today only 4 days after ER. I was expecting 2 weeks! When I called they said that's totally normal to get AF within a week - they could have told me to expect that!

My doctor told me last time we met that there was no reason for me to wait a full cycle to do FET if I feel alright, but the nurse told me that's "how we do it". And then I'm totally counting my chickens before they've hatched - I won't know until Thursday if there are any frozen embryos to transfer!
I've left a message with the nurse trying to explain but haven't heard back yet (which hopefully means she's checking with my doctor!).
I don't even know my FET protocol/timeline yet because we were optimistically hoping for a fresh transfer.
    Ugh!
  • @Nellin the wait is torture ive been waiting since saturday to see how many frozen its takong forever lol
  • @Nellin I hope you get answers soon! The waiting and uncertainty sucks. FX that you'll be good to do your FET sooner rather than later!

AFM, two shots down, so many more to go! I had a mini-freakout last night before I had even done anything (I think anxiety and nerves had just built up from the anticipation of it all) because I thought they had forgotten to send me the syringes and needles...turns out I just put them in a cupboard and forgot about them *smh*...DH was understandably a bit concerned, thinking how is this going to be when she is actually on meds? haha...but thank God he was patient with me during that and then stayed with me during the actual set up and shots for moral support. Now that I've done it once I feel a lot better about doing it tonight...it was just a bit overwhelming at first getting everything together. I wasn't a fan of the menopur, that one stung for several minutes after! DH looked it up online and said that's pretty normal though. Nothing I can't handle, just not looking forward to that one ;) Feeling just fine today so far. Hope everyone is doing well!

  • So I've had 3 IM shots in my hips now (1 HCG & 2 PIO) and I can't feel them at all. Not like, "I can feel them but it doesn't really hurt"... like I can't tell the difference before, during, or after the the shot - I have to ask DH. I'm concerned about my lack of nerve endings, haha.

  • jodes727 thanks fir the update! 2200 is pretty good its 5k for me which is more then a transfer, its a tough decision.  I originally thought I was doing a fresh decision transfer and the testing wouldve prevented that...unfortunately for me this cycle i got to do neither ugh!!  excited for u!!

@nellin curious how you'l like the ending, it was a great show!  excited you are moving along, youll be ready for an embaby in not time :)

  • @Monica54321 DH is a newbie to administering injections, and I am a nervous person to begin with.... needless to say our first injection of lupron was nerve wracking for us both! thankfully, he's gotten the hang of it and now we are doing Lupron 2x daily, and then gonal F and hcg injection at night, M-F. So far they don't really seem to 'hurt' and none have stung... am I in for a nasty surprise as we progress with the injections? eeeek!

Friday 09/30 is my next ultrasound to see 'how I reacted' (I guess?) I'm still so new to all of this. Oh my gosh listen to this: I stopped taking BCPs on Friday and on sunday evening I freaked out when I saw that I was spotting! I had NO IDEA that was my period... I thought "OMG THESE INJECTIONS ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG TO ME!" I called my RE emergency line and she told me that was totally normal for my cycle to start because I stopped the BCPs on Friday. I had NO IDEA! I have never taken BCPs before... I was SO thrown off. I'm such a dork!

3rd cycle on Letrozole but did our 2nd IUI on 07/01/16. 10 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
Onto IVF! Started Lupron on 09/24. Added Gonal F and hcg injections 09/26...... Trigger 10/07. EggRetrieval 10/09. Starting PIO, Estrace, and Medrol 10/10/16. Transferred 2 "strong/beautiful" embryos 10/14/16. Beta 10/28/16 = 998 mIU/mL = BFP with one baby, but miscarried at 9w5d.
D&C on 12/06/17 and started taking BCPs 01/10/17 for the next IVF Cycle, which officially began stims on 02/18/17.
Fast Forward: we got 4 fertilized embryos from that cycle. Transferred one fresh, but it did not stick, so we have 3 frozen embryos currently. Went in to the fertility clinic in July to talk about a FET of one of those three frozen embryos, but a new fibroid was discovered, and I was not cleared to do the transfer until I had fibroid removal surgery.
08/11/17 had a mini-laparotomy / myomectomy to remove 6 fibroids, largest sized were the size of golf-balls! Once we were cleared to go about our normal lives (sex!) I got pregnant NATURALLY but it was a chemical pregnancy. The very next month we had another BFP and here we are now with a baby on the way! A TOTAL AND COMPLETE MIRACLE!

  • Hi happy to be joining this group.  Below is my information. Does anyone have a glossary of acronyms for us new to the board?

  • @cherrybea welcome!  Hope your stay here is short.  You can look at the newbie post (2nd on the list on the IF board): https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12638957/visitors-please-read-first-before-posting#latest

If you scroll down a bit there's a helpful list with most of the acronyms that get thrown around by all of us :)  I have found the ladies on these boards to be really helpful and supportive and hope you do as well!

As for me, I just got the update that my ER is scheduled for Thursday!  Right now looks like 28 follicles, most of which are looking pretty good around the 16-18 mm range with a few smaller guys in the 10-14mm range and one monster at 21mm.  So I'm hoping we get some good quality and quantity for our first retrieval.  HCG is tonight, back for bloodwork in the am to confirm all is good.  Ready to get these eggies knocked up, even if it is in a petri dish.  Isn't IVF romantic? LOL

@cherrybea - welcome and sorry you are here.

AFM-I have my Beta tomorrow.  Feeling slightly nervous, to be expected I suppose.  Sounds like you ladies are moving along!!!  Am I one of the first that has already had their transfer?  So sorry, I can't keep remember...

  •  I'm so sorry that I haven't been posting as much as I like.  Super busy with work and also having challenges with my app.

@lamaricelita88 and @Jsmorrissey good luck to both of you tomorrow.  Looking for the 1st BFPs.

AFM after 2 weeks of BFP'S I stopped them on Monday and on Thursday I'm supposed to start Follistim and Menopur.  This is the first cycle where I'm not going from BFP to estrogen or waiting for AF to show up before starting stims which is interesting. But I wanted new so I guess here it is!  My mock transfer was last week and painful due to my stenotic cervix bit I'm still excited to move forward.

Praying for all of you ladies.
  • I started Stims this weekend. If anyone is interested in watching a video of me doing the night time portion of the meds, take a look at the video I just added to my infertility journey on YouTube https://youtu.be/rDOr3RRqJtY couple more weeks to go! Ultrasound on Friday...  Wish me luck!

  • @Hoping4Success @Hopeful_mom Thanks!

@meli123k I totally know how you feel. A bit a stinging/redness for a while afterwards is totally normal. My first couple of times I just couldn't do it myself, I kept trying and then wimping out. But it doesn't take long to get used to it. I found getting it all sorted and then trying to relax and distract myself by watching TV helped (a bit).

@elisam511 You're not a dork - how are you supposed to know these things first time! Just like me expecting to wait 2 weeks after egg retrieval for AF and her turning up 4 days later! Good luck for the scan! :)

@cherrybea Welcome to the board and the unfortunate club of IVF. I'm still working out all the acronyms! :)

@Esperer Exciting - great numbers far! Hope it all goes well! And yes, it really does take the romance out of babymaking! Although at least now when we have sex it's just for fun again :)

@Jsmorrissey @lamaricelita88 Good luck for both of you! Fingers and toes crossed!

So...I have a phone appointment with my doctor tomorrow. He will have the results of how many made it to day 5 to freeze. Assuming there is at least 1 I'm going to start prepping for FET straight away not waiting for a few weeks as I'd thought!

Gosh this is a roller coaster!

  • @Nellin fingers and toes crossed for you and your embabies, let us know what you hear!
  • Thanks @Jsmorrissey Good luck with your beta and thanks.

@esperer thanks for the information.  Good luck on your ER on Thursday.  It looks like things are looking really good.

  • @Nellin good luck with the results today!  I can't remember, since you are freezing, are you also doing pgs testing?

  • Ladies, I don't have much to say except I still feel awful after the er Monday,  still not back to work, barely keeping down my antibiotics.  I'm hoping to feel better tomorrow, I guess I have a super sensitive nausea center. I wish the best to everyone else, and hope to hear good results from you.

Waiting to hear how many of our 16 fertilized eggs became 3 day embryos.

  • @JESSABER0414 - Don't feel bad!  My ER was on Sunday, and I ended up taking Monday & Tuesday off work.  I was extremely tired, generally super uncomfortable with bouts of significant pain/cramping.  I "could" have gone back to work on Monday if the world depended on it, but it turns out everyone survived just fine without me.  Now that I'm back today, everyone keeps telling me to stay away, so they "don't catch it."  Hahahhaa.... I just tell them, I think they're safe  :p

  • @elisam511 thank you!  Hope stims are going well for you so far.

@jessaber0414 and @monica54321 so sorry you both had a tough recovery from your ER - maybe count it as a good sign that your bodies worked so hard to create such awesome eggs that they needed extra time to recover.  And yes, hopefully nobody at work "catches it!" - I am fully prepared for my "really bad stomach bug" that I am planning to catch tomorrow (and I guess maybe Friday too if I have a rough go like you guys did!)  R&R for you both!

  • I am so happy to hear how everyone is progressing through this cycle!  @JESSABER0414  and @Monica54321 I am sorry you ladies are having a tough recovery from ER. I am also feeling pretty miserable. I am so swollen I am literally 11 lbs heavier than I was last week. The first day was awful as my neck hurt as well as my abdomen. It was impossible to get in a comfortable position! I am a few days out and starting to feel a little better.

AFM I had ER on Monday. throughout stims I had over 40 follicles. My RE was very concerned about OHSS so he decided to only trigger with Lupron vs Lupron and hcg. He told me that with only Lupron they only expected about 50%. We were right on that mark with 22 eggs retrieved. I was bummed with this number after having so many follicles. Only 19 were mature but luckily 18 of those fertilized normally with ICSI. Now we just wait until Saturday to see how many make it to blastocyst to freeze. I am feeling better about the number. Really hoping most of them make it as I have no desire to do this again. And no money to do this again haha.

Becasue of the ohss risk we will will not be doing a fresh transfer. Freezing all and taking a rest cycle. Hopefully we will have our first FET in November.

  • @PCOSat25 We are literally doing the same thing! Makes me feel better and I'd give you a hug if I could! I heard today all 16 are progressing well. So I guess @Esperer is right and my body worked super hard to get me this far.
I think we will be lucky to get the FET in November!
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.
