C-section/VBAC Check-In 9-1

Re: C-section/VBAC Check-In 9-1

    • Tell us a bit about why you having a c-section, repeat c-section, or a VBAC:
This is a repeat c-section after an emergency c-section with my son (detailed in my response to the birth stories thread). I've remarried and moved since and my current practice does support VBAC but since I was told after having my son VBAC wouldn't be an option, I'm not going to attempt it.
    • How are you feeling about it?
I'm feeling fairly chill, actually. I'm type-A to a fault, so being able to plan is great. Also, the hospital my practice delivers with allows for family-centered c-sections so there won't be a curtain, they'll place Bodhi on my chest, DH can cut the cord, and we'll be allowed to breast feed right away. I'm essentially getting what I'd want from a vaginal delivery in the controlled environment that is best for my body. DH and I weighed the pros and cons and I'd rather have what I want in this environment than risk ending up with an emergency c-section again where we're not in control at all. That is, if Bodhi decides to stay in there, he brother was born at 36w6d :).
    • BTDT Moms, any advice?
Don't hesitate to ask questions. My OB sewed me up AND put staples and they didn't remove the staples before I left the hospital. I almost ended up with an infection and wish I'd asked before I'd been discharged. I'm glad to be with my current DH this time. He has almost 15 years experience in the medical field (clinical and administrative) so he knows what to ask and how to ask it.
    • GTKY: What food are your currently craving?
Sweets! Then salty. But all carbs. Little guy must be bulking in there.

  • Has anyone else gotten negative comments about having a scheduled csection and how do you handle them? I just found out the date of my RCS and after telling certain family members I've gotten comments about how the baby's lungs won't be mature at 39 weeks.  I have GD so it's not like I'm choosing this for no reason!  It's what my doctor thinks is best for my baby.
    Ok vent over, sorry.

People will always question what they don't understand. You're doing what's best for you and your baby, end of story. They don't have to like it or understand it because it doesn't concern them.

I would just remind them that your doctor is balancing what is best for both yours and your baby's health. Also, anything after 37 weeks is considered full term. 40 weeks isn't an exact science, and being within 2 weeks on either end is completely normal.
  • I agree. The baby is fully functional and fine to be born any time after 37 weeks (no longer a premature baby then) and to do the delivery at 39 weeks is totally normal. So there goes THAT opinion.

Ignore those comments. Not their circus, not their monkey.

  • Thanks for the support guys.  I need to be more confident,  I'm just not good at responding to things like this but I'm working on it!
