  • My wtf is to my concentration.  I can't get anything done today.  I have a light work load this week and it's making it harder to want to get anything done.  My attitude is basically "I have all the time in the world!  So I'm going to procrastinate."

  • My WTF this week is also close to my WTF last week... drivers. I am really hating 8am traffic around here, and I have a short drive to my work (max 7 minutes if I hit all but one light).

Today, a guy was turning left in front of me to the main road I get on before I take a right to the street my work is on. After you take this turn, it's right by one of our interstates, so usually people get in that far right lane to merge onto the interstate going east. Well, this guy was doing that, so I got into the right lane so I wouldn't have to later. Well, something was backing up the interstate, so all the sudden he's trying to get back into the lane I am in. Fine. I stop and let him in front of me, no biggie. BUT, then he proceeds to run the red light that is RIGHT there... as cars are coming off the interstate turning left on said road we're on. He's lucky no one decided to do a wide turn into that far right lane.

I just wonder if I hadn't let him in, if he would have either hit me on the side by merging just cos he needed to get back into that one lane. Or, still didn't see the light and me stopped, and would have hit me from behind. Who knows.

  • My WTF is that I'm STARVING- like I could eat the entire contents of the vending machine- starving. But because I'm limited in what I can eat and when I can eat due to GD, I can't eat all of the vending machine contents.  But I'm still so hungry.  I ate a good breakfast, morning snack and a huge lunch (all within my carb limits) but I'm still hungry. Arrggg. I want to sit down and cry.

And my WTF of the day... I have chili in the crock pot because it's under 90 degrees and rainy.  I've washed my hands now 3 times and I still smell strongly like garlic.  Weird part - I can't stop smelling my hands.  It's like I'm a glutton for punishment.  There's worse smells than garlic for sure, but this is reallly odd behavior for me.
I totally do this, and it's a normal behavior for me. I love garlic.
Me too!  But I'm a hand sniffer now - and that's what's weird.

  • I have a second WTF today. Since when does the Academy of Pediatrics NOT recommend giving antibiotics/treating an ear infection!?!?!? 'Just treat the pain, and it will go away' is what my ER(stupid Medicaid rules) doc spouted after telling me that L has a bad double ear infection. WTF my kid is literally screaming in pain because you touched and looked in his ears, and you are telling me to keep up what I have already been doing.

  • WTF to the stalker Salesman at the furniture store. I just wanted to buy two chairs, not be followed through my whole store process. And because he creeped me out, I didn't buy the chairs today. Would have gladly given him my service and commission if he hadn't followed me and watched me from behind corners. Just tell me your name, and stay in the clearance section and I will find you, I promise! But no...had to follow me while I walk up and down the aisles seeing if I like anything better than what I picked out online.
  • @kbduke omg me too. I thought, oh I sit  all day, shouldn't be hard. Riiiiight. I'm so uncomfortable! Today some people walked in asking to see my boss, and I just looked at them like they were speaking Chinese. Had to say I'm sorry, pregnancy brain, what was that??

The recommendations changed to a true fever (102+) for 48 hours or more preceding the evaluation to strongly recommend antibiotics.  My doc also said a fever should be present AT time of evaluation to qualify as 'severe'.  Pain relievers will only bring down temps roughly 1 degree in a true fever/infection situation so treating before being seen shouldn't impact the latter.

  • WHY IS ICE WATER GIVING ME REFLUX. Ugh.

Because water does nothing to neutralize the stomach acid, it just adds volume allowing the acid to migrate up the esophagus further.

@DiFazette Its just stupid. He had a fever of 101 in his armpit, they didn't do a rectal one. Yet he has had a fever for 2 days, and I have the phone records proving I called and asked about it.  But its not serious enough to prescribe anything, just ibuprofen every 6 hrs + Tylenol every 6 hrs + nasal spray 'just in case'.

  • WTF, rib pain. Got my first taste of it this evening...if it's any indication of what the next 10 weeks are going to be like I'm in trouble.
  • @BenNSarah MS and nausea are the worst, I'm still having it this late too. :( Heartburn has not been as bad since I'm taking Nexium, eating Tums like they're candy, and drinking lots of milk. Also Alka Seltzer chewies are great if you don't like Tums! Are you taking anything for the nausea/heartburn?
  • My WTF goes out to people who don't give yes/no answers to yes/no questions.  I'm too tired to listen to a 5 minute answer to figure out if you're trying to tell me yes or no.  Just answer the question, please.
This is my 5 yo... To EVERY question. Just yes or no!!! What adult does this???

  • @ashleaf2018 I've been following your journey and it has made me grateful that mine is not that bad, I am miserable but it could always be worse.  My Dr. won't prescribe Zofran, she did prescribe me diclegis(?) but my insurance won't cover it and I can't afford it without insurance.  She said it is a combination of unisom and B6 so I have been taking those every day. It doesn't get rid of the first thing in the morning MS, but it does help with SOME of the nausea during the day.  She won't give me any more because I haven't been sick enough to be dehydrated.  I can't take water really but I can usually handle iced tea or juices so she said to just stay hydrated with that.  She had me try Zantac but that really did not help.  I have tums everywhere, my work desk drawer, my bedroom, my bathroom, my purse, etc.  And I have lots of hard candy because if something is going down... nothing tries to come back up :(  I am just trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel in December but some days/weeks are just bad!  I hope yours eases up on you very soon!
  • @BenNSarah gah! I have almost a full bottle of diclegis in my cabinet that I filled and then stopped taking (the MS stopped). It was a refill toward the end of tri 1. I wish I could get it to you somehow (though, for legal purposes, I know transferring prescriptions to other people is completely illegal ;))!!

My WTF addition for this lovely morning - my county voted yesterday to move school start times back by 13 minutes for HS and 15 minutes for elementary school. My kid already starts school (K) at 9:20 and doesn't get out until 3:45! So next year he'll start at 9:35 and end at 4?!

It is super annoying in regards to before/after care - we didn't think we'd even need before care before finding out that school starts so late! DH works 10 minutes from our house and has a mostly flexible schedule, but he can't go into work at 9:15/9:30 every day, he would get home too late to spend time as a family and he often has 8:30 or 9 am meetings. And we can't reliably be home by 4 (when the bus drops off) so we're stuck paying $100/week for, what is typically, 30-45 minutes of before care (bus comes a little after 9) and 30-45 minutes of aftercare. Fingers crossed my post-maternity leave schedule is flexible so we can drop the after care, cutting our costs to $50/week.

  • @BenNSarah My first doctor prescribed me diclegis also - which was $400 for 30 pills. I said no way and took the unisom and B6, which did nothing besides help me sleep at night (I was a Nyquil/Zquil addict before pregnancy). Then when I switch doctors and was still having MS into my second trimester, she prescribed me Zofran. I took it for a few weeks but decided that puking was more desirable than not being able to have a bowel movement for 4 days at a time. Now my MS has been replaced with reflux, which I am on Zantac 150 twice a day for (stronger than the OTC stuff). I tried Tums to help with the reflux and to give me some calcium (milk makes me sick, except for cheese) - but it didn't help. I just take them daily to add to my laundry list of medication. Today was my first appointment where I haven't had a new medication given to me!!!
  • Here's a little side note. There's reflux. Then there's heartburn. Heartburn is a symptom of reflux caused by stomach acid. Taking things to help heartburn will help that symptom but not solve the reflux.

The reflux is caused by hormonal shifts that make it so your sphincters in your body don't close all the way. This is why sometimes there's the farting that you didn't full expect and may have held in if you had only known...
So. If it's actually heartburn, eating bland foods and taking things like tums will help that symptom.
For the actually reflux, smaller, easy to digest meals may minimize discomfort.

I had an apple and some peanuts for dinner last night (had a huge lunch though) and slept better than I had in weeks. I think, for me, that's a key reflux management technique - get the calories earlier in the day and then STOP in the evening so reflux doesn't affect my sleep.

  • I think another thing that helps reflux is making your last meal of the day much earlier than when you go to sleep and to not lay down for 2-3 hours after you eat. Smaller, more frequent meals are good for helping reflux and MS.

@BenNSarah I would obviously consult with your OB first, but you may have good results with Nexium. A two week treatment course is only $15 at Walgreens. I have to take it every day for at least the rest of the pregnancy, possibly even past that, but you may only need the two week treatment course. One of my main triggers for reflux/heartburn and MS is anything greasy or any big meals. This pregnancy I've been living off fresh fruit, toast, gluten free cereals (rice cereals, GF Cheerios), yogurt, cheese, milk, and water. Some days I only throw up 1-2x and some days it's an all day thing; if it's all day, I'll usually also have Gatorade. Another thing I really like is quinoa; it's like rice but is a complete protein on its own. It's very bland so I can usually keep it down.

I still think a lot of my MS is hormonal over anything else because I always take my meds as scheduled, I always eat as bland, unseasoned food as I can, and most days I will still throw up. So while there's a lot of things that help and I think lessen the MS, I still always have it. And it comes very randomly and I don't know when to expect it. One thing that really bugs me is everyone telling me to try some new thing in regards to my MS, when I've already pretty much tried it all. Sometimes there just isn't anything you can do to prevent it and it's not anybody's fault. I think that's just how some people's bodies respond to all the pregnancy hormones. And what works for lessening my MS may not help yours. But I do hope you're able to find some kind of routine that works for you! Being sick this whole time really does suck :(
  • Thanks for all of the input @ashleaf2018 @slartybartfast and @abriannao.  I actually had very severe reflux as a teen, they prescribed me everything, and it just keep getting worse and worse and would adjust as the medicine and dosage went up.  I finally decided to manage it by lifestyle and going to the chiropractor made a big difference and that has made it manageable since then.  I just now get heartburn symptoms with any fluids, doesn't matter time of day, how much I drink or eat, or any of those other things.  But since I can't keep water down, I have to have something to not get dehydrated and the tums act faster for the symptom than anything else I have tried.

I think my MS is mostly predictable at this point. Every morning within 5 minutes of waking up, and then maybe again in the morning.  The rest of the day is just severe nausea and dry heaving.  When I am hungry, when I just ate, if I just had crackers, especially when I do anything physical, I do get sick when I clean, and when I take the stairs.  I have just learned to cope.  I do get annoyed too when people say "have you tried..." because trust me I have tried it all.  My doctor is stumped too.  I think it is hormonal as well, I had some definitely fertility issues and it's almost like my body is just going through puberty and got pregnant right away and it wasn't ready for any of that... even though I am 30.  I also hoped that the pregnancy would be easy since getting pregnant was so hard, but I was wrong... so I'm really hoping for a good baby after this pregnancy!  My mom did have 4 pregnancies and had MS for the entire thing so I don't think there is any chance for it to change at this point :)

  • I finally have a WTF. WTF payroll? I STILL have not been reimbursed from 2 pay cycles ago (which includes my internet bill) AND now I wasn't reimbursed from this last pay cycle! This includes all my travel expenses from my trip up there. I am so pissed, and my boss is pissed and on a rampage because of it. Ugh, I really need that money back.
