@Wholesome how do I get the baby registry list from alpha mom? Do I subscribe to her email? We are going to babies r u tomorrow to do the first pass at our registry and I'm a little nervous? (Hahaha!) FTM so I have never done a registry before!

My mom is wanting to buy this for the baby, we no longer have our swing, and the one that I borrowed last time for my 4th was really hard to use and frustrated me. This one is a plug in one so no batteries which I really like! Plus the base of this one is much smaller than a traditional swing, so it wouldn't be as big of a space taker in the living room.
Has anyone tried one of these? The only swings we've ever used are just the basic ones that swing front to back and that's it...
@mommywesley I have not tried that but something like that was going to be what we got if we didn't end up getting our mommaroo with my son. I love the low profile swings and also not having to maneuver around something on top to put baby in to their seat. Looks like this also has multiple movements which is good since some babies prefer different types of movement.
This may fall in a different thread but I figured I'd start here. Has anyone found that the deodorant they were using pre pregnancy no longer does the job any more? I already use the secret clinical because I am prone to excessive sweating (not pregnant) and that helps keep me dry. But there have been a few days that I've noticed that the oder is not being controlled as well and I'm guessing it's another one of those hormone related things. Anyone in a similar boat and have found things that work?

Not this time around, but last time I had to change deodorants after my child was born. My old kind just didn't work anymore. It kind of sucks, but it is what it is.
@Carly79 not exactly, but I did switch deodorant brands. I've always used old spice but I felt like the crap in it can't be good for the baby, or the newborn who will be wedged in my pit nursing forever. I switched to a brand at whole foods called "naked". It's vegan/organic/edible and I LOVE it. I don't sweat or smell when I wear it and it is unscented.
@nolemama24 go to alpha mom.com and search for the registry list. It's awesome because in the weekly updates it'll break it down for what you need now vs later but they also have a huge comprehensive list.
@Carly79 I was using secret clinical strength for forever. Once I got pregnant, it caused a rash that was absolutely horrible! I switched to Dove and less than a week later the rash was gone. Our bodies are so funky during pregnancy.

This happened to me post partum last time. Omg, the odor. I switched to clinical strength and it seemed to work. I'm no help on what brand to use but I can commiserate.
@Carly79 I'm laughing because with my first, only my right underarm was uncontrollable. We're talking wet marks and sweat rolling and I wasn't that hot while the left was dry! I had to change from Secret Clinical Strength with the first and use Degree Motion Sense which stopped the excessive sweating and smell. With this pregnancy they haven't been too bad and I've been able to still use the Degree.
I did have to change shampoos this time though as my hair was way too oily with my pre-pregnancy shampoo. Same thing happened with the first one as well. Right now I'm trying to find a good body moisturizer that's not heavily scented and dries quickly but actually moisturizes. I can't stand feeling "wet" after putting on lotion but I'm sooo itchy, everywhere!
I'm glad I'm not the only one getting rashes--my face, in addition to pregnancy acne (and I can't use my usual Rx), broke out a couple of weeks ago in a bright pink, itchy, scaly rash. ive since stopped using my astringent and facewash....still using my CerVe moisturizer. And yesterday was the first time in two weeks that I wore foundation to work. I already look like I'm 19 (coworkers are always confused when they learn I have two school age kids) so the acne, rash, no makeup combo is really making things worse.

For those of you that have experienced Braxton Hicks...are the contractions/tightening something that you feel just as you go about your daily life, or do you only feel the tightening sensation if you touch your belly and feel that it is tighter/firmer? How obvious is it once the contraction ends?

I'm not 100% sure I've had them yet with this pregnancy but usually you can feel them without touching your belly--especially later on when they are a bit stronger. I don't think I ever had Braxton hicks that were Timable because they seemed to fade away slower than a labor contraction would. That's what I remember from DDs 1&2 anyway.
So far this time I've had a couple of uncomfortable all over sensations where my belly does feel a little tighter but it's so brief that I haven't decided that's what they are for sure yet.

Question about bottles. I will be a SAHM and I am planning to nurse so assuming I can how many bottles do you think I should get? I would like to let DH feed some when he is home so they can bond but also I think I might prefer to pump and take bottles with me when we are out rather than nursing. Would a starter set be enough?

I'm planning on getting 2/3 single bottles of different types. My 2nd was SO picky about bottles. I don't want to buy multiples of something she may refuse to use.
After we try out bottles and know what she'll use, I'd say 3ish would be enough for the type of situation you're describing

@ceclarlinetlo will you be home with the baby full time? I wouldn't buy any if so. Medela pumps come with a few, swag bags when you register come with some too. Breastfed babies are sometimes finicky with bottles. Also, it is best to pump every time your baby nurses to mimic the same pattern of breastmilk production...so if you are out, and give the baby a bottle, you'd want to be pumping as well. In my opinion, there is nothing easier than leaving the house without bottles. You can leave in 5 minutes, because you always have your boobs with you
@LoneStar21416 I feel them very strongly both as a tightening sensation, and when I touch my belly to feel. I can tell when I'm having one, because I feel it, and then I touch my belly to confirm. I have them very frequently. Sometimes they last for a very long time, one time maybe 10 minutes. (This is normal according to the midwife). Sometimes they are brief as well, but for me, never less than 30 seconds.
@ceclarlinetlo I am a WAHM and had a nanny for DD so I continued to nurse instead of pump after I went back to work. I only have 2 munchkin latch bottles and 1 random I can't remember. We didn't bottle feed a lot, though. Basically just when I went out without her and wasn't able to time the trip to fall in between feeds and when the nanny had to give her a bottle bc my work schedule conflicted with her hunger schedule.
My husband fed her when I wasn't around, but she would refuse the bottle if she saw me. Plus, if he fed her a bottle, I needed to pump around the same time and get roughly the same amount to tell my body she had eaten. I really disliked pumping, so he mostly fed her out of necessity and not just for fun.
I also never packed a bottle of breastmilk when I went out with her because keeping it cold enough to not grow germs and then trying to warm it back up was far too much of a hassle for me when I was walking around with a full supply of perfect temperature milk in my breasts. Plus, like I said we quickly learned she was not into the bottle when the boob was in her eyesight. Also, with supply and demand, I would need to pump shortly after she ate the bottle anyway so if I were to bottle feed her I would either be running home to pump soon after she ate or pumping while out in public.
TTMA minivans! DH and I are getting ready to buy/lease a new/used car so we have gone a few times to take a peak at some options. At first we were really interested in the crossovers but they seem pretty obnoxious after having been in a few. 2nd row bench seats are annoying because I hate the idea of climbing over it with a child or infant during loading and unloading. Right now we are considering a Chevy Traverse (crossover) Honda Odyssey and a Chrysler Pacifica, anyone have any of these currently? Any likes/dislikes about them? I love that the Pacific seats can literally fold into the floor so no climbing over but the Honda's seats can be completely removed for the same effect.
We will have 3 kids in car seats that I will be responsible for getting in and out on my own on a regular basis. Any other suggestions? We are planning to actually purchase in late September or early October.
I went to Babies R Us today and was really unimpressed. Also, their prices are ridiculous! I am under the general consensus that most moms register there, but literally everything I want is on Amazon as well AND waaaay cheaper. Should I cancel my Babies R Us and do Amazon? I feel like I am stressing out about this more than I should.

@ellemf728. We just got a Toyota Sienna (we got a 2012 with 40k miles because we didn't want to buy new) and we love it. I only have to get one in and out of a car seat but I've had to go back to the 3rd row a couple of times and it's not very hard. My sister in law has the version with more bells & whistles and I really like it too.

@nolemama24 I'm registering at those two places as well & feel the same way. I'm using amazon as my master list registry but I think some people will prefer to shop in a store... especially the procrastinators. One thing that is good is BRU does price match. So if show them the exact item on amazon they will match or people can use a 20% off coupon. If they choose not to do that, their loss I guess.
@nolemama24. Babies r us is only good for trying crap out in person before you buy online from Amazon. Pro-Amazon tip. Try to make sure everything on your registry is Amazon Prime so members don't have to pay for shipping - less expensive to buy and free to ship, can't beat that!!
@nolemama24 I preferred buy buy baby because of the coupons. Also, they take bed bath and beyond coupons. Amazing return policies (we returned a used cosleeper when my daughter was 2 weeks old because she wouldn't sleep in it, no receipt, not a defective product, no questions asked).
How many fitted crib sheets & waterproof mattress covers do you need? How often are you changing these out? Has anyone tried the QuickZip crib sheets & mattress pads - if so, are they worth it?
Question- what should I look for in buying a hospital outfit for baby? Just a comfortable onesie? Do I need more than one outfit?
I usually bring 2 0-3 months and 2 in a newborn size. For winter babies I would definitely do more than a onesie. Maybe a fleece sleeper or a warm gown with a hat (though you will probably get one or two from the hospital). Carters has these great convertible sleepers that button up to either be separate legs or a gown which I love for brand new babies. You don't have to pull it over the head like a regular gown (huge pain since baby has zero head control) but you can still just pull it up for easy diaper changes.
Just a personal opinion: I hate anything over the head for newborns and that includes onesies. Nearly everything in my newborn and small 0-3 month is zip up or something like in the link I provided. I donated almost all of the rest because I found them so annoying when I'm changing diapers and outfits multiple times a day.

I like to have 3 or 4 crib pads so I can double up (pad, sheet, then pad, sheet) and still have a back up in the closet. We have a lot of sheets (7 or 8) but that is just because we have gotten extras to match the different rooms of each kid.
@nolemomma14 I'd definitely stay away from BRU. I've heard so many horror stories from friends about returning things from registries. There was also a recent story on the news about a mom who tried to return a car seat because her baby had passed away in the 3rd trimester and since she did not have a receipt, they would only give her a few bucks for it. It ended up being a huge ordeal, but this isn't just one story I've heard, I've heard many from multiple people. For our first pregnancy we registered at BBB and they were amazing. Bed Bath/BBB in general will accept returns on anything, even if something breaks a year later, they will replace the item.
@kelseyh62@Wholesome thank you for those tips! amazon just seems wayyyy easier, but I will also keep in mind the price match. Yesterday was only the first pass and I think I was overwhelmed, hahaha. I am going to go do the second pass with my mom, who said she can help me narrow it down. @ThePax89 unfortunately the closest buy buy baby to me is in a different city about 35 minutes away. Not a terrible drive to go check it out for myself, though!
@awknyc that is a terrible ordeal oh my goodness! I could tell the overall vibe at bru was sucky. the lady at the registry counter barely acknowledged me. Unfortunately, I feel like treatment like that is standard at most stores so I don't let it bother me.
Thank you for all your feedback and tips mamas!!!

@ElleMF728 thank you for the link! That helps a lot. as we're team green I'll have to double up on all the options but that's ok. Any reason you bring more than one option in each size? Just to have choice?
@ElleMF728 we have a Chevy traverse and love it. We have two captains chairs in the middle so you can easily get to the third row without climbing over the seats.
Someone tell me if I should be calling my OB--starting sometime yesterday I started having this sharp, shooting pain on the bottom inner part of my left breast. It's been coming and going ever since. I don't feel any lumps or anything. My nipples don't hurt at all, and the shooting pain sticks to that same area. Did any STMs have this before during second tri? I'm 25 weeks today. No leaky breasts... yet.
@canavara I've read about clogged ducts prior to giving birth, but you would feel a knot. I'd call, but not the emergency number, just during business hours. Any issues breathing/taking a deep breath?
@sarag my hospital provides front snap shirts for the babies and swaddle blankets. We didn't use our own clothing until we took our daughter home. I'll make the same decision this time. The main reason is that I don't want to worry about losing any clothing in the abyss of hospital linens and endless swaddle blankets, nor do I need to worry about washing more laundry when I get home.
@ThePax89 No pain from breathing. I'd read some stuff about clogged ducts but most said it's kind of unusual this early and then I read a couple of things where it was saying "you might experience pain when your body starts producing colostrum"--which is kind of all I'm hoping it is--but at the same time, it's such an awful pain haha. Guess I'm calling the OB in the morning if it's still hurting.
