What kind of maternity bands do you recommend? I have back problems as it is in my lumbar region (which led to 2 back surgeries), and the pregnancy is starting to really hurt. I've tried finding ones with good lumbar support, but I'm worried about purchasing and not getting much help.

How early is too early to start washing and organizing hand me down clothes? I know I'll wait on most of the new stuff but the hand me downs sitting in bags in the closet is giving me nesting hives lol
@tinabelcher not too early for hand me downs! The new stuff for sure wait on for exchange/returns but the hand me downs are fair game. I've already gone through our older DDs clothes and pulled out all the NB and 0-3 mos stuff for our baby girl. It can't hurt to figure out what you have and what you wanna keep vs donate
@PMForbie I've been having sciatic pain and I use the Baby Belly Band by Cabea for everyday and the Fit Splint for working out. I never had back issues with my first pregnancy, but this pregnancy is a whole new story. At first I didn't think it made a difference, but after not wearing it I realize that it definitely feels better with the band.

I plan to go through DD's hand me downs for LO ASAP now that I know we're having a girl!
@TinaBelcher maybe I'm the weirdo, but I'm not planning on washing/folding clothes for a long long while. It could be because my daughter still lives in the nursery where her sister will go. I guess I could wash them now...
Question* At what height should I set the mattress in the crib. The highest one seems WAY to high but I know I want higher than the lowest setting to save my back. But then how do you have bed skirt if it is set higher? Am I am moron and this is straight forward?

We always start at the highest setting. It is the most comfortable for me and babies can't even really sit up by themselves until around 6 months. I don't use a bedskirt so I can't answer that.
@susykat77 ha - your question made me laugh. As a FTM here, I question my "moron-ness" a lot these days. I don't even have the mattress yet, so you're a step ahead of me at least.
Use the highest setting and save your back and from waking your potentially sleeping baby trying to lay it down on a lower setting. The crib skirt looks kinda funny until you lower the crib, but it'll look kinda funny when the mattress gets to the lowest setting too haha

Exactly this. The highest setting seems high to you now but when you put in baby who literally can't even roll over, you'll see that it's perfect and easy to access.
STMs - what is your experience with jumperoos or baby activity centers? My H and I are trying to keep our baby stuff pretty lean, but my mom was adamant that we must have one of these. What do you all think? Any recommendations for one with a small footprint that doesn't look like a circus exploded in our living room?

I agree that something in this area would be necessary. Around that age 6-10 months babies are into everything. It's really, really nice to have somewhere to stick them so you can do a quick chore, take a shower etc. and know they are safe. Both of mine have hated pack n plays and the playpens that they will tolerate take up way more space.
I've looked into this because although DS1 and DS2 have both loved playing in their jumperoos neither has really jumped in it. Apparently this is a thing for the Baby Einstein jumper which is what we have. The Fisherprice is way better for actual jumping, I wish I would have gotten that one. Its a little smaller instead.
@juliebird6 DD loved her jumperoo, and although a lot of them do look like a circus exploded it's temporary. They can't really use them until they are old enough to sit up and ours was sick of it as soon as she was mobile. You don't need one right away. I'd suggest waiting and getting one second-hand when the time comes. Edit to add- we resold our second hand one for exactly what we paid for it as soon as she outgrew it and we'll just get another used one for new baby.
All of my kids have loved the jumperoo so we will definitely be getting another one when the time comes. I won't buy one until LO is old/big enough to use it. We will buy a used one like PP. You can get them for a good price and in good condition since like most baby gear, they are only used for a few months.

Love love love our jumperoo! At the time when DD used it we were in an apartment so I totally understand not wanting to have your space eaten up by it but honestly, it was so worth the space that it took. DD loved sitting in it and it allowed me to get so much done that I never would've been able to do otherwise. I actually am really sad that she doesn't fit in it anymore haha. If you're concerned about cost, we got ours for free from a mom group that I'm a part of. Can't get better than that!
ETA agree with PP that this is definitely something you can wait to get. We got ours at 6 months and she outgrew it around 12 months. I would recommend getting it whenever you're at a point that baby is too big for the swing (provided they're able to sit up and are otherwise developmentally ready to use it) and then you can just swap them out.
We have the Fisher Price Rainforest jumperoo linked above and from about 6-12 months or so, that thing was a godsend. My son LOVED jumping in it, and it was nice to have a place to put him that he couldn't escape from but that he also enjoyed. I feel you on not wanting your house to look like a circus, but it probably will to some extent until the kid is a year or so old.
I'm a strong believer in "containers". If you ever want to accomplish anything (like peeing), jumpers, swings, etc are essential. I had the jumper/exersaucer because I wanted the best of both worlds. My daughter loved being upright and part of the fun. She didn't really care for jumping, but we have it so maybe her siblings will like it. It feels a lot more airy than a traditional exersaucer. More negative space.
My DD has a Jump-a-roo like this. It attached to a door jam and it was awesome! We just put it up when we needed it and could hide it/take it down if we need to as well. I loved this because I could set her up and know she would be in one spot if I need to quickly run and change the laundry, go to the bathroom, etc.

This is going to be sappy, but I'm in one of those moods, so here goes.
I am so excited for you FTMs! Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for all the moms here, but especially those doing this for the first time. While being a parent is taxing and hard, it's also amazing and fun and rewarding. You won't love everyday, but it's awesome most of the time. Even when it's hard.
The nice thing about the jumperoos and exersaucers is that they don't come in until the swings and bouncy chairs are overwith. So, while you will definitely be living with some gigantic plastic piece of equipment in your livingroom, it gets less obtrusive over time. Once they outgrow the jumperoo, you're sure to have a play kitchen or dollhouse in the space once occupied by baby gear. Eventually you just have a nice even carpet of legos and hot wheels cars until they leave for college.
lol @sagoon I am having such a hard time reconciling myself to this fact. In my heart, I know it's totally true and definitely how it works, but my head is having a very hard time letting go of our child-free house and all of its child-free decor
@juliebird6 I totally understand. When we bought our current house, the #1 selling point was that it had a room that could be turned into a playroom. In our previous house, the livingroom was home to (in succession): a swing, a bouncer, a jumperoo, a music table, a play kitchen, and a bead maze block thing. This is not counting all the assorted toys that lived in bins or got left there. Now I can just shove it all into the playroom and shut the door.
When my son was tiny and immobile, we used the lay-down bouncer seat. I mostly used this so I could shower and baby could see me and be happy. We also used a swing - the swing was huge but he freaking loved it (I got ours at a second hand store and it had a mirror with spinning stuff on top). Play mats are awesome for tummy time and playtime.
When he could sit up on his own, we added a bumbo with tray and ditched the bouncer seat.
When he was more mobile, we got a jumper - my son was a fanatic about his (we have the rainforest one too)... I eventually had to put it in storage because he was too big for it and was climbing in it whenever he could. for this age, we also got a walker with a huge table for eating and playing. We made sure all staircases were barricaded off so he couldn't fall down them and die a horrible death (my doctor was against walkers because of this statistic) - but we also got one that had a stair safety thing (not fool-proof but a helper).
its never too early to baby proof kitchen cabinets and drawers.
I get a weekly email from Alpha Mom. It has the weekly baby growth information but mostly snarky commentary about being pregnant on a weekly basis. I love this chick. Today's email (22 weeks) had a pretty good list for a baby registry. Thought I'd share for the first-timers.
Question* At what height should I set the mattress in the crib. The highest one seems WAY to high but I know I want higher than the lowest setting to save my back. But then how do you have bed skirt if it is set higher? Am I am moron and this is straight forward?
My mom made our crib skirt long enough to reach the floor when the crib was in the highest setting. Then we pinned it up as we lowered the mattress to be at the right height.
I just asked this in the belly button thread but posting here too because now I'm really curious. And TTM+ moms NOT have their belly button pop with their first pregnancy but DID pop with subsequent ones?
I felt lucky that I escaped the pop last time but now I'm starting to think it might happen with this one.
@LastMango mine went flat last time, but I'm sensing a pop this time. I think with mine it has something to do with it never being as deep as it was pre-babies after my last pregnancy.

I don't think mine has popped in my last two pregnancies, but went flat like @katesmama0706. I kinda wish it would pop out a little, for a change. I love seeing popped turkey belly's!
