Re: Weekly Randoms 9/12/16

  • On my mind this week: helping "MIL" (SO and I are not married, but we've been together 6 yrs, so his parents are pretty much my inlaws) with all of her final wedding planning details without giving away that I'm pregnant. My SO wants to announce the surprise at the end of his toast at the wedding. The wedding is the 24th. MIL has encouraged us to have kids for a while now, so hopefully it will add to her day and not "steal the spotlight". I worry about that, but SO thinks its fine and she's his mom...
If it was a friend's wedding then I would say absolutely not because it is spotlight-grabbing, but with it being your MIL who has wanted you to have children then I think it is ok. My only concern would be announcing it to a crowd of people when you're not that far along. I suppose it depends on how big the wedding is and whether you will have heard/seen a heartbeat.

  • I would usually say no to stealing the spot light but it's a grand baby for her and that has to be exciting!! So I agree with everything @kat81 said
  • @hezzer78 were you able to get ahold of your dr? That should definitely be something that they discuss with you, especially if you're concerned. Unfortunately i have no experience with hcg levels. My levels were only ever taken after my mc had started last time.

  • @Stormy61 and @kat81, I think I'll talk to my SO about his plan for that announcement again. The wedding is going to be at new step "FIL" & MIL's house (backyard wedding). There are about 60 guests, but mostly the grooms family. I've gotten to know some of them (like his daughters & their DHs), but I probably won't know anyone else there and that would be awkward/why would the guests who don't know me care? I don't have my first prenatal appt & u/s until Oct 5. I think he just wants a special way to tell her, but maybe if he just tells her personally- like when they are dancing or something, that would be better. Then she could decide if she wants to share her spotlight. The groom has a granddaughter who is just over a year old, so MIL is a grandma to that baby too (she's known the baby for baby's whole life). Maybe it isn't the same as her "own" grandkids though. My SO is an only child too.
  • @jatwal128 I did! She wants to see me next Thursday. I'm still worried, but feel a bit better that by next week I'll have some answers. I'll be 7 weeks next week, so if there's something there to see in the u/s, we'll see it.

    My fingers are definitely crossed...

  • @hezzer78 keeping my FX for you! No cramping or bleeding is always a good sign, but I know it can still be unsettling. Positive thoughts!  <3

  • @chickyclg I guess I could call them, but honestly, I think another low beta would just make me even more depressed or stress me out further. I think I'll wait til Thursday and just watch for any cramping/bleeding.. :)
  • @tumbleweed I like the idea of your husband telling her during their dance. And yeah I'm not sure I would really care to announce in front of 60 people half of whom I don't really know.
  • @hezzer78 I've been obsessed with HCG numbers since finding mine out yesterday. From what I can see your still in the norm for 6 weeks. And they can double every 48-72 hours.  https://americanpregnancy.org/while-pregnant/hcg-levels/

  • I'm standing in my friends wedding on Oct. 22 (I will be 12 weeks) and her bachelorette is the weekend before that. I am really struggling with when/how to tell her about the pregnancy. It's going to be obvious if I just don't drink and the way my doctors appointments work I may not have even heard the heartbeat by then. I'm anxious enough as it is and would have been happier to wait until I was out of the first trimester before telling anyone else. Only my sister and best friend know now. We plan to tell our parents after we've heard the heartbeat.

    Any advice?
  • @babs02 Yeah, I checked out the ranges- mine are in a good range, but they aren't doubling every 48 - 72 hours. They're not even doubling every 96 hours - which is the problem :(

@amybee5 Can't you just  "drink"?  Like, order a rum and diet coke but just have it be diet coke? If it's in the same glass, no one will know :) Or "vodka" and soda water, but have it just be soda water? That kind of thing.
  • I was thinking about that! And the more people drank the less likely it would be that they'd notice- the bachelorette would be more difficult as its at our friends cabin, the girls and I are all wine drinkers. I'd just have to tell them I was switching it up lol

Sending positive thoughts your way @hezzer78 I don't know much about levels or what they should be but I can only imagine the worry! Stay optimistic!
  • I have a wedding to fake my way through next weekend. I'm hoping I can get by with "vodka" and waters.  I'll be super hydrated by the end of the night!

    This @tumbleweed. How exciting!

  • @Amybee5 when's your first appt..there is a good chance you can hear the hb before 12 weeks... I heard my first at 10w.
  • 9 weeks, maybe I should push that back a week or two or request another appointment
  • @Stormy61 and @mrsrep123, I haven't suggested telling while dancing specifically yet, but we did talk about my hesitation for a big announcement. He was totally cool about it (it had seemed to me before that he was really set on that idea). He said, "that's fine, we don't have to do that. That's just what I see people do in movies". LOL. We don't want to tell his mom until the wedding, or after, because she is already overwhelmed and doesn't need anything else to think about. We want to try to tell all the parents at once too (as close as possible so there are no hurt feelings on who knew first). (his mom&"newstepdad", dad; my mom, stepdad, dad&stepmom)
  • Wow I just spent more time than I'd like to admit reading that catfish thread!! Holy s***. If you dont see lots of personal pictures of me, then that's why!! I cant even imagine having all that time on your hands to make something like that up.
  • Hey ladies. I'm not sure if this is the right discussion for this, but question... Is there a limit to how much we should be walking daily? I just found out I was pregnant before coming to Italy, and I've been walking a total of about 6-7 miles daily. It's all slow paced and spread out throughout the day, and I'm making sure to drink water. My doctor told me walking was good, but do you think there's a limit?
  • @starphish18 I would think that as long as you don't feel like you're "overdoing it" it should be ok. Listen to your body and take breaks when you need do and do definitely stay hydrated!! (80-100 oz of water per day.) I'm not a doctor but that's my impression of general pregnancy exercise considerations. Have so much fun in Italy!! What part are you in? I've been once and it's one of my favorite places!
  • @starphish18 If your body is used to that amount of walking then unless you start to feel differently you should keep going with it. It will help you with a healthy pregnancy to keep up with the walking. But like pp said listen to your body.

@ShadeofGreen816 Thanks! We're currently in Rome, then heading to Florence and Siena before back home.
  • @starphish18 great!! Have so much fun! I loved Florence 100x more than Rome so I'll be interested to see your feelings! Too bad you can't partake in all the yummy wine!!!
  • @hezzer78 how are you feeling so far, I've been thinking about you a lot the last couple of days.

@chickyclg Thanks for thinking of me :)

    *TW?*:

I've been kind of upset, honestly... I'm pretty sure this one's not gonna last so I'm trying to just mentally prepare myself for when the dr. eventually tells me. I'm not having any cramps or bleeding so that's good, but I'm afraid it's just a matter of time :( It's been harder to wrap my head around than what I thought...I could be all wrong, though.. and everything could be fine. But I think the odds are against me at this point..

  • Ugh, @hezzer78 this waiting has got to be impossible. I've got my fx so hard for you and your lo!!
