@Nellin thats interesting didn't realize ICSI was a different price, I feel the same as you never had a BFP so hoping i can finally get there! You have to have so much faith in the lab and thats SUPER SCARY!!

@mandasand - yay! Exciting you have a time frame!!! If I remember correctly, I only had 3 on each side as well at my baseline. As of Monday I have 15, 12 that are big enough. So it is possible to get more, especially with a more aggressive protocol. I feel you, I am old as well. I never thought I would have an issue with it, as so many our age and older have no issues getting pregnant. If I hear one more person say "you can have in your 40s" I may lose it. Not everyone can (naturally, at least).
AFM - Had an ultrasound today and found that my cyst grew since the last scan 2 weeks ago - it's over 5.5cm in diameter now Fortunately my estrogen is low (22), so we're still gonna start stims tomorrow. Got an updated AFC as well, 20 (left) and 23 (right).

to all the ladies!! thanks to all for the advice on icsi vs regular. Here's another one I need help on.My OH is now concerned about austic children, my re says there are still no tests to confirm. Does the PGS testing do that. He's driving me nuts, I just feel there is no garantees in this. Any advice is appreciated!! @Monica54321 awesome news best of luck!

@Hopeful_mom - I don't believe there is anyway to screen blasts for autism. I'm definitely not an expert, but from some basic research, the underlying causes of autism (and autism spectrum disorders) are not well understood - therefore no PGD tests have been developed specifically for autism. We did some basic genetic testing and one of the things they tested for was Fragile X - which appears to be correlated to ASD. If you did testing and are both carriers for Fragile X, then you could do PGD testing for that on your blasts.
PGS will look at the number of chromosomes, I have no idea if there are any aneuploidy related conditions related to ASD.

ETA: typed basically the exact same answer as @Monica54321 before I read her post.
But, yes, no PGD or PGS test is available for autism cause (at least right now) there is no "autism gene," and they won't test blasts for Fragile X unless one of the parents is a carrier.
That's why DH and I are doing IVF...I'm a carrier so we have to do PGD testing on the blasts, which is time consuming and expensive cause we have to get all my immediate family members tested and the lab has to use their DNA to build a dna set-up to test the blasts against to determine if they have the mutated X chromosome or not.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement! I've been really happy with the clinic thus far and I will be sure to say something to my nurse - it's not exactly like this is free Trying to stay positive and hope that all three come back normal but I'll take even one at this point! Seems like AF is about to arrive so I'll at least be able to talk to a nurse and get some questions answered. IE - if none come back do we start shots again this cycle or do I have to wait one?
@lamaricelita88 - FX that everything worked out for you today!
@Hoping4Success - truer words couldn't be spoken, it's 100% quality over quantity so FX for you!!

caseyw8784Monica54321 thank you so much for the info ladies. I was up all night googling and everything. I know My OH is scared as he already has a child with autism BUT it doesn't matter, it happens with donors too. AND the fact that hes having this issue NOW, in the middle of me stemming really. I'm just quite frustrated to say the least. He wants a guarantee and unfortunately there is no grantee and we pray for a healthy baby!! The testing is so expensive and even with my age the dr wasn't suggesting it. But i'm still not sure.
**update** In other news FINALLY have a frozen sample YAY!!! I feel like i might have a fighting chance this month, you can all rejoice with me I thought i would feel better but I do feel a bit down after my US this AM. I know its quality over quantity, I just feel like there hasn't been much movement since my baseline, nothing knew popped out. Basically I have 4 on the right BUT the large one grew so fast that it wont count by the time retrieval happens. The left now has 2 smallers ones and i think she said the large one deflated on that side or whatever that means. SOOO maybe i'm looking at 4/6 follies. It just makes it very scary as you all know. I was hoping to get a little closer to 10 this time but still struggling to get 5/6. Now i wait for whats next...
hows everyone else doing?

Totally thought I posted over here yesterday and shared the info from my ultraound, but I don't see the post... I must be losing my mind!
Anyway... had the u/s and the cyst on my right ovary has grown to 5.5cm, up from 4.5cm 2 weeks ago. Fortunately, based on my estrogen level, it doesn't appear to be producing any hormones, so we're going ahead with stims starting today. My AFC was 43 and that combined with the huge cyst... this could get interesting. Starting out with 225 IUI follistim for 3 days, then blood work on Sat.

@monica54321 Thank you! @mandasand I do feel that hitting you hard with the meds will help! Hang in there. I feel my protocol was pretty aggressive as well. It'll be worth it.
AFM-I had my ER this morning. Everything went well. My RE ended up getting 13 follies, so 1 more than the 12 she was estimating on Monday. It just goes to show you never know what small ones will get bigger within a couple days. FX that at least 1/4 fertilize and make it to day 5. My Transfer will on Monday 9.19 @12:30. EEEK...getting excited.
Hope you are all doing well and having a happy hump day!
@monica54321- sorry to hear about the cyst but so glad you are getting started! That is an AMAZING follie count! They better keep a close eye on your for OHSS. Can't wait to hear how the first u/s goes!
@mandasand- my protocol is also the most aggressive my clinic has and I think its better to be aggressive... getting cancelled last month was soo disappointing and hopefully that won't happen to any of us this month! Did you get your protocol yet?
Jsmorrissey - congrants on the ER! Hope you are resting at home and taking it easy. Those are great #s, especially for DOR! Are you doing ICSI and PGS? I can't remember. FX for good day 3 and good day5 numbers too!!

Ok, so I just spoke to my RE, and finally have some news. Those of you who already have heard my background story, sorry, but bear with me!
The genetics lab that is working on the genetic probe had contacted me and said that it might be unsuccessful cause none of family members really cooperated and the only one that gave a sample is my half-sister, and since we only share one parent, we don't share "enough" dna. They wanted to warn me that there's a chance that we won't be able to do the PGD testing now. Of course I had to be a carrier for the ONE disorder that is weird and different and they can't do the normal standard testing on! Ugh!
I called my RE to see what the other options/next steps were, and she said that I should speak to my genetic counselor to talk about different scenarios if we just go ahead without the PGD. She said the chances that I will have a fully affected child is 2%, but the chances of having a child who is a carrier is 50%, and the chances of THEIR child being fully affected would be 95-100% (that's why we wanted the PGD - to nip this in the bud so future generations won't have to worry about it!) She said we could do PGS testing for piece of mind, but that we are young enough that we probably don't need it.
The last wrench thrown into all of this, is that my company announced yesterday that they're most likely switching insurance companies effective December 1st. I'm SO LUCKY that my current insurance covers everything- including the meds! At this point, we could do a cycle and a fresh transfer before then, but it might be a little iffy to have the blasts sent for PGS testing...and then to start the FET cycle and be done before December. She does think that the new insurance will be equal, if not better, than my current, so she said not to worry about it for now.
So, I've been on BCPs for almost 2 months, so she told me to stop and go a week without, then start them again, just in case I'm a bit over-suppressed. And now just waiting to hear from the lab on whether or not the PGD will work. Should know within a week or so, either way. With no PGD, i'll be doing an October cycle; with PGD it will be a November cycle...
Sorry for the novel, but I was happy to finally have *some* sort of update!
caseyw8784 - Thanks for sharing. that is quite the journey! That is disappointing that more family member won't cooperate you are spending extra time and money to make sure the condition doesn't get passed down and that is so admirable! I find the whole PGD genetic side of things so interesting! Let us know what you decide to do. Did you know about the genetic condition and then decide to do IVF? or are you doing IVF for IF and then found the genetic condition? Hope you can get started soon. I will really be a Oct cycle, early Nov transfer so maybe we will end up being cycle buddies!

@Hopeful_mom Thanks, I hope so too!! Our RE recommended ICSI since we aren't really sure why I can't get pregnant, so we figure it's worth a try.
@Monica54321 I've been on baby aspirin since the stroke, but all my bloodwork and other testing came back great so the only thing they could attribute it to was BCPs. My RE had me get checked out again by a hematologist and neurologist before we could continue with IVF. I had some more bw and another MRI done, but the results were the same as before and both specialists thought it best to just continue with the baby aspirin. I also had a consult with a specialist for fetal and maternal medicine, who I would need to start seeing once I (fingers crossed) get pregnant, and he suggested lovenox for the third trimester, but not before. I'm glad you're ok and able to continue with IVF! Did you ever find out the cause of the PE?
@ChristinaV2015 Best of luck and glad you were able to switch to a dr. you like!

@BabyBuckWay So sorry about the low betas, hoping that next beta will show better numbers!

@JamieH2000 - *TW* my OB referred me to a Re after a chemical in summer 2015 and then an early miscarriage around christmas 2015. My RE's thing is after the initial consult she does allllllllll the tests on both me and my DH, including genetic blood tests. That's how we found out that I have a pre-mutation of Fragile X. The mutation grows in each following generation, that's why my children most likely won't be fully affected, but their kids will. We decided to do the IVF with PGD to make it a non-issue completely. We've been "waiting" since February to get this probe done, so I'm kind of upset that we might have wasted all this time and still not be able to do PGD, but at least I feel like we're moving in the right direction now...
caseyw8784 great update and glad you have one! hoping everything will work out, you've been through a lot. Frustrating that your family wasn't more cooperative, sorry Its awesome that insurance is covering it, thats awesome and so rare, so its nice to hear! Interesting ur suppressing for so long, amazing how the same and different we all are! I'm on the strongest meds and feel like i'm not responding the way i should.
meli123k isn't it interesting when you the last thing you ever want is AF and finally you're looking forward to is for once...I felt the same way this month. Good luck on this cycle!
Jsmorrissey ur so close, this is so exciting!! its hopeful how much you responded with DOR especially. Maybe your first test were wrong about that, regardless thrilled for u!
mandasand don't be nervous about the meds, you want them to be aggressive so you get the best outcome. It is scary as I am being the most aggressive and yet I'm still in the same position as last cycle...hoping something gives soon!
Nellin have you gone for a follow up, where are you at? shots treating you ok? hope so!

@Hopeful_mom I'm in New Zealand so cost will be different here. There is a lot of trust the whole way through this process!
@caseyw8784 wow what a saga, hoping it all works out for you guys! It is very admirable thinking of your children having kids when all you want now is a baby! We haven't had any genetic testing done, there is no known history in either side of genetic problems so i guess they didn't see it being necessary.
@meli123k hope AF arrives soon so you can get started
I'm getting a bit worried, I've done four days of menopur (tonight will be 5) and don't have any symptoms yet. Last time I was feeling bloated by now and I'm on double the dose this time! Just have to wait for my scan on Saturday! At least my Saturday comes before the rest of you because I'm in NZ :P
caseyw8784 - obviously it would be great to screen it out through PGD, but had you gotten pregnant on your own.. you wouldn't have had control over it if that makes you feel better? At least you know of the issue and once you have your child you can test them and see. Hopefully by the time they want to have kids, science will be even more advanced and they can do IVF and get it screened out or something like that? Its amazing how far things have come in the last 20 years, so I can only imagine what the next 20 will bring for reproductive science! Best wishes and can't wait to see how its all going. Hopefully a smooth IVF cycle after all this!

@hopeful_mom - Since this is my first round of IVF, I really didn't know what good numbers would be regarding follie count. I have had my AMH tested so many times and always comes back low for my age. However, every test that I have taken has gotten progressively better and fully believe it's because of everything extra my RE recommended I do. Which, I think we all do what our RE's recommend, HA!!! But I am feeling pretty thankful thus far.
@nellin the only symptoms I had for awhile were headaches and crabbiness. I didn't start feeling bloated until day 7 or 8 and even then, it wasn't awful.
@meli123k excited you are good to go when AF arrives.
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I'm happy (not sure that is the right word to be back.) So I'm on day 2 of BCP and I feel terrible. I'm so sensitive to side effects.
I go in Monday for a saline sonogram, anyone have any experience with that?!?
@caseyw8784 that's quite the whirlwind of a story. Stay strong and push forward!
@christinaV2015 - my experience with the Saline Sonogram was awful. But so many others that have had it, have had zero problems with it. My cervix apparently, has a very small opening. Which causes issues. But you push through it. It'll be all good. some discomfort for IF comes with the territory.
@ChristinaV2015 I had a saline sonogram yesterday. It was uncomfortable but not as bad as the HSG. I did have mild cramping yesterday so worked from home - plan on not working that day! My tummy is a little sore today too but doc was really pressing hard on my tummy during the sonogram - he was looking for something! My doc is an old navy dude and he's very "brief," does not say much during procedure, the other navy doc in the clinic is much more informative but since I'm a special case they want the more experienced doc to treat me.
Im also ultra-sensitive to bcp. I'm sick and throwing up every time I'm on it. Doc wants to limit it as much as possible but a few days may be necessary depending on how cycle goes. Also having a low AMH it's best to limit bcp as much as possible.
I don't have lost the details of my protocol yet, I should hear from IVF coordinator Friday or next week, I'll get my injection class scheduled and pay the fee (thank goodness it's mostly covered through military) within next couple of weeks.

@lamaricelita88 I am so sorry to hear you had so much pain and cramps with your ER. I really hope that your pain starts to subside quickly so you can get ready for transfer. Were you at risk of OHSS? What is your plan for ET?
@caseyw8784 I am so happy to see you have a real update and now that the ball is in your court instead of just blindly waiting. It sucks that you couldn't get better cooperation from your family especially when you are working so hard to try and help prevent for future generations. So...have you and DH decided if you are going to roll the dice?
I know I missed others and I will try and get back on the boards after I try and work a little hehe but I hope everyone is doing well with where you are in your cylces!! Nothing new with me. Baseline is next Thursday! I am getting excited to get started!! Ordering the meds tomorrow so that will really make if feel real this time

@Joslynj11 - I'm planning on talking to the genetics lab again today or tomorrow, to see where they think they are with if the probe might work or not. (I also want to talk to the genetic counselor again cause DH (and I) are still a bit hesitant/nervous about moving forward with no PGD testing...especially after hearing for almost a year that we NEED that testing...y'know?) If the lab says that the probe was not successful, I think DH and I have decided to roll the dice and start the stim cycle at the beginning of October! We do have a couple long weekend trips planned within the next 6-8 weeks, though, so I'm curious to see how my RE will be able to work everything around those...lol. It's kind of surreal, too...I never thought that I'd be able to consider a fresh cycle at all!
@ChristinaV2015 I had a saline sonogram a couple of weeks ago and for me it really wasn't as painful as the hsg test. My dr did it and my cervix was being a lil uncooperative but then i think i was happy to hear all looked good and the pain kind of went away U will experience slight discomfort after and hopefully thats it. I wasn't in bed all day after. good luck!

Just checking in - I am so happy to read encouraging news from some of you ladies and am wishing you all the best that your embabies thrive and transfers stick! I'm hoping to re-join this board again following my next monitoring apt tomorrow. My miracle follicle (that grew on its own after 15 months of my body doing LITERALLY NOTHING without the help of meds, thus delaying my planned IVF start date) unfortunately didn't become a miracle pregnancy as AF arrived this morning. I was trying not to get the hopes up too much anyway since BFNs are nothing new at this point (although a miracle would have been SO COOL) but long story short, hoping my RE will allow me to start IVF meds tomorrow as was the original plan (as opposed to having to start with BCP). If that's the case I can rejoin this thread, if not I'll have to delay again because I have a work trip later in October that I can't miss. Either way I'm rooting for all of you!
Esperer sorry to hear! Wouldve made a great story to tell too! hoping you can jump right in and start stemming with the rest of us good luck!!

@Nellin FX for good results Saturday! On a side note, DH and I visited NZ a bit over a year ago and absolutely loved our time there. I have relatives on the North Island and was born there, but hadn't been back since I was a toddler. Such a gorgeous country, I hope we can visit again someday

General question - I'm kind of curious how planning an ER date in advance works. My clinic doesn't plan when the ER will be, it just depends on how the stimming goes. For those with planned dates, do they just make a guess, then adjust the date as needed? Or do they really actually hold to the date typically?

@mandasand - yay! Exciting you have a time frame!!! If I remember correctly, I only had 3 on each side as well at my baseline. As of Monday I have 15, 12 that are big enough. So it is possible to get more, especially with a more aggressive protocol. I feel you, I am old as well. I never thought I would have an issue with it, as so many our age and older have no issues getting pregnant. If I hear one more person say "you can have in your 40s" I may lose it. Not everyone can (naturally, at least).
@hoping4success @nellin it is absolutely quality over quantity!
We are here to share the good, bad the ugly. It's not about comparing, unless we want advice.

Anyway... had the u/s and the cyst on my right ovary has grown to 5.5cm, up from 4.5cm 2 weeks ago. Fortunately, based on my estrogen level, it doesn't appear to be producing any hormones, so we're going ahead with stims starting today. Back for # 2!

@ChristinaV2015 Best of luck and glad you were able to switch to a dr. you like!
@byrneme That is really frustrating
@BabyBuckWay So sorry about the low betas, hoping that next beta will show better numbers!
@caseyw8784 That's awful your family wasn't willing to cooperate
I checked in with my nurse and she confirmed we're all good and ready to go once AF comes. I'm eager for it to show up so I can really get started!

meli123k isn't it interesting when you the last thing you ever want is AF and finally you're looking forward to is for once...I felt the same way this month.
Nellin have you gone for a follow up, where are you at? shots treating you ok? hope so!
@byrneme praying all your embabies come through with flying colors!!

Back for # 2!

Afm: baseline US today was good! I have PCOS so I had 6 dormant follies in the right and at least 2 in the left. Lining great. And they'd only call on the estrogen was too high, so no news was good news.
Start Follistim 175 iu/day tomorrow!
I'm finally excited for this journey to get going.

General question - I'm kind of curious how planning an ER date in advance works. My clinic doesn't plan when the ER will be, it just depends on how the stimming goes. For those with planned dates, do they just make a guess, then adjust the date as needed? Or do they really actually hold to the date typically?

@JESSABER0414 Welcome, there are a few people with PCOS on this thread (intruding myself). Good luck for the Follistim.
@Monica54321 I wondered the same thing! I have first scan tomorrow and then they book follow up scan every second day till I'm ready for trigger shot and ER. Well, that's the plan at least, who knows what will actually happen!!
