  • @KirstenCas That sucks I'm so sorry to hear that! Are there any other options for drugs that stop you ovulating? I will be taking Orgalutran but I'm in NZ so that might just be a different name for the same drugs you have tried.

Can you go home sick? Even if you can take a short walk to clear your head I find that can help.
Do you have a follow up appointment to work out the next plan? I always feel better when I have a plan.

    Look after yourself xx
  • Sorry I've just looked it up and it looks like Orgalutran is just a brand name for ganirelix.
  • @Zoey1019 The other thing your H should be doing is regularly ejaculating! Our dr recommends every second day. The only time they have advised us not to have sex was when there was a possibility we could have multiples (I have a crap cervix from surgery so that would be high risk).
From my understanding you need to start stims at the very start of your cycle (ie start of AF).

I finished provera on Tuesday so now I'm waiting for AF - it's rare that AF is welcome but I'm so impatient to get started!
  • @kirstencas- I am so sorry. I wish I had more words of comfort, but honestly this situation just really sucks. You should definitely go home if you can and just cry or drink or do whatever you need to. I feel like with your situation your RE needs to monitor you everyday to know when you are getting close to ovulating. They should be taking BW everyday and then they could see your LH surge and they could at least time the IUI right. Maybe its time for a new RE or at least a second opinion? Thinking of you...

Jsmorrissey - congrats on the great follie count!! Hope the scans continue to be good and FX for a smooth ER! are you going to do a fresh transfer?

Zoey1019 - I have found every RE to be different in what they require... but since I am impatient I am always frustrated with how long everything seems to take! Hope you can get started soon!

Megzb510 - welcome to the group! sorry you are here with us, but hoping its a short stay and the first IVF works right away!

Hi ladies. I'm not 100% sure on the protocol of when to move boards but my ER was done Sunday and we are slated for transfer sometime in October so I figured it's time to leave the August/September thread. We are currently in the waiting period to find out how many make it past Day 5 - we get the call from the lab on Saturday and, lord, has it been a slow week!

@KirstenCas - I'm so, so sorry to hear this. I hope they can nail down your cycle and get this figured out for you.

  • @byrneme Welcome thats so excited how many eggs you got!!  Hope they're all doing great. Very exciting, good luck!! Do they check in with you at day 3 first?  Are you doing a fresh transfer?  On your first US how many folli did they see?  I just went through my first round and we were hoping for 10 but only had 4 and we cancelled the cycle.
@KirstenCas - i'm so sorry to hear what you're going through.  This is such a frustrating process.  The same thing happen to me when I was first trying IUI and my body wasn't cooperating, BUT I was also going to the dr and having blood work done so how they could miss me ovulating was quite questionable...but apparently it does happen and it sucks!  I'm so sorry!  Hopefully you had intercourse somewhere in between and the magic can still happen!
Jsmorrissey wow what a great count hope they all keep growing and maturing together!!  How much gonal F are you on?  Thanks for breaking done the numbers ( 4 vials (300) of menopur.) I wasn't sure how much 1 vile was.  Yea i'm not a fan either it really burns and assuming thats whats causing the itchiness as well.  I really dont love acupuncture but will try and get back into it this cycle, want to do every and anything that could help.  I guess i should be eating that healthier diet too huh :(
Megzb510Esperer welcome, sorry you find yourself here but best of luck are this journey!
@slp330 best of luck sending u sticky vibes!
mandasand glad things are moving in the right direction for you yay!

Just waiting for AF to arrive to start stemming, my boobs have been sore for days now, I"m wondering if its this painful due to the first round of stems, which dr said is normal.  I forget the protocal name she used for this round but thse want to do 300 gonalf and 3 menopur, which i think puts me at 525, she said 600 is the max you can give your body, so i wonder why she doesn't up the gonal F.  They are expensive drugs and she doesn't want me wasting my money but I want results at this point!!  I can't think about the money, I'll worry about that later.

    IVF#6 May 2017 // Antagonist didn't have time for Estrogen Priming...(4 ER, 3 F, 3B) (5AB, (2) 5BB) 2 PGS normal, yes!! :)
IVF#7 June 2017 // EPP praying this is it and then on to an FET!

  • @Hopeful_mom - thank you! We are doing FET as we are sending them off for genetic testing, so looking like end of October transfer. We don't get a call on Day 3 which is sort of nerve wracking but it is what it is! I was an extremely slow grower - we almost cancelled my cycle twice - but my first US showed 5-6. I was already on an almost full dosage of Gonal-f and Menopur so there wasn't much to do but wait and see. I'm so sorry you had to cancel your cycle - it's something that didn't even occur to me could happen. Naively, I just assumed my body would react well to the drugs!  It looks like they have switched your dosage so I hope that works for you this round! As a sidenote, my boobs have been EXTREMELY sore. To the point where a hug is not an option!

  • Do other people let stims get to room temperature before injecting? I take them out of the fridge about 15 before and it doesn't feel as bad going in and I think it bruises less (or I might have just improved my technique).
    Has anyone else tried this?

I'm still waiting for AF, keen to get started but nervous about how I'll respond to the increase in drugs. I'm going up to 150 menopur (2 powders) which sounds like nothing next to some of you but apparently PCOC makes you overstimulate. Fingers crossed the dose is right this round!
  • Another question, what exercise have you found works well with IVF? My Dr has told me to keep exercising because my body is used to it and I'll just get stressed if I stop. I thought maybe cycling - like a relaxed bike trail not a spin/rev class! :)
    Any suggestions?
  • @byrneme those are great numbers!  yay!!  Keep us posted.

@hopeful_mom- My doc does not have me on gonal F.  Not even sure what that is.  I've never been on it.

What excercise are you used to doing? I currently do crossfit 5-6 x per week, so I am assuming that will be out for me big time....

Also, I live in FL, so long walks outside are most likely out as well! I have no idea what I will do to keep my mind at ease!!

  • @Nellin I have found that yoga has been very nice and relaxing. If you practice it enough you will find your whole body start to tone and feel better and it really does wonders for your state of mind. I found a young lady on youtube that I have gone to her yoga videos for months and they are AWESOME. She has a 30 day challenge that is great for beginners! I think you can find her if you search Yoga with Adrienne :)

  • @Nellin my pharmacist only told me follistim should be refrigerated the menapur and ganaraliz and trigger shot doesnt only room temparature and no light so idk
  • @Zoey1019 Wow that's way more exercise than I do! :)  My Dr said once I get in to the stims I probably won't want to do anything that will make me "jiggle"  so running and jumping are out! He just said listen to your body, don't do anything that feels painful, uncomfortable or pushes you too much.

So much of a balancing act! Exercise because that helps PCOS and blood sugar regulation and reduces stress, but don't exercise too much because fertility is the first thing that shuts down and losing weight won't help me.

@Joslynj11 Yes! I should get into yoga, it's something that would be really useful if I ever manage to get pregnant too! :P (sorry - cynical humour)
But honestly yoga would probably a good thing for my mental health to get into for this upcoming month.
Thanks -  tonight can be day 1! :)

  • Hi Everyone, I am new and have been lurking around for about a month. I was suppose to start stims on 8/8 but my Estrogen level was too high. But I had no cysts. Started BCP for August and new My estrogen level was still too high and now I had a large cyst on my right ovary. The cyst was more than double the size of my ovary as of yesterday and the Dr. Made the decision to aspirated it yesterday due to it's size and now I am on 10 days of Prometrium in the hopes of "reseting" my cycle.  My RE believes that since my cyst was growing it was causing the estrogen increase.

I have had two emergency surgeries one in 2011 and one in 2014. Apparently, I like to make random exploding cysts every few years. The last one in 2014 caused my ovary to be catarized because they could not stop the bleeding so I have half a left ovary now.Despite that my testing was fine over the summer.

We are doing IVF because my DH had a vasectomy in 1999.

I am super frustrated with not starting but feeling better after my RE responded so quickly to my cyst and had a plan. My protocol at this point (if I can every get started) is 225 of Gonal F w one Menopur and Cetrocide.

Sending lots of baby dust and FX for you all. Hopefully, I can start stims in 10 days and join you all!

byrneme i hear ya with the boobs!!  My niece who is iddy bitty hugged me and i had to stop, the pain is insane!!  And its just frustrating i put my body through so much for nothing :(  My dr is upping my meds but i'm just nervous that theres not much movement to increase anything.  I just wonder if my ovaries are tired from the month of clomid and now all this.  At times i wonder if i took a month off if it would help BUT if my body is ready when AF arrives then I will go for it, don't want to take any chances.

  • Hello ladies! I am brand new to IVF... still don't fully understand how it all works, but I took a hiatus from all the craziness the last two months. We had two failed IUI's this summer and now DH and I are about to start the cycle. Last night I started feeling crampy, and suspected that my period would start soon... Well, I was right. This morning I saw AF coming through and I should be full flow by tomorrow... I am sad because I wanted to get lucky and not have to go through the tens of thousands of dollars for IVF, but I guess this is God's plan for us! Scary but exciting! I wanted to start documenting my journey on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqLRjZ6tkRGcNhJUo5Ehn0g I also became a consultant for LuLaRoe to sell clothing and hopefully pay the costs of the IVF.... PLEASE wish us luck - I know you all are on here for the same reasons, so I am sending you ALL so much positive thoughts, love and virtual hugs!! Anyone in NC?

    1st IUI 05/05/16 Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
    2nd cycle on Letrozole 7.5 mg CD 3-11 + TI = BFN
3rd cycle on Letrozole but did our 2nd IUI on 07/01/16. 10 mg CD 3-11 + Ovidrel = BFN
Onto IVF! Started Lupron on 09/24. Added Gonal F and hcg injections 09/26...... Trigger 10/07. EggRetrieval 10/09. Starting PIO, Estrace, and Medrol 10/10/16. Transferred 2 "strong/beautiful" embryos 10/14/16. Beta 10/28/16 = 998 mIU/mL = BFP with one baby, but miscarried at 9w5d.
D&C on 12/06/17 and started taking BCPs 01/10/17 for the next IVF Cycle, which officially began stims on 02/18/17.
Fast Forward: we got 4 fertilized embryos from that cycle. Transferred one fresh, but it did not stick, so we have 3 frozen embryos currently. Went in to the fertility clinic in July to talk about a FET of one of those three frozen embryos, but a new fibroid was discovered, and I was not cleared to do the transfer until I had fibroid removal surgery.
08/11/17 had a mini-laparotomy / myomectomy to remove 6 fibroids, largest sized were the size of golf-balls! Once we were cleared to go about our normal lives (sex!) I got pregnant NATURALLY but it was a chemical pregnancy. The very next month we had another BFP and here we are now with a baby on the way! A TOTAL AND COMPLETE MIRACLE!

  • @byrneme great numbers! Question: why did you decide to do PGS testing? I'm considering it but RE said since I've had no pregnancies it's not necessary 1st round IVF. But I'm still open to this. It costs $4500 so it's a big investment, it actually costs more than IVF because the service is outside of insurance coverage so no discount.

  • @mandasand - I've had both a miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy so it's really more for peace of mind than anything. Our clinic partners with a lab and it will be out of pocket but only around $2500 (I use the 'only' lightly). It is an investment but we figure our insurance will cover 1, MAYBE 2, full rounds of IVF if necessary (and dependent on how many embabies we have available for transfer) so we are really just trying to hedge our bets.

@Joslynj11 - I've been wanting to get into yoga at home - thank you for the suggestion!!

  • Nellin i have tried taking the meds out of the fridge before using but I'll certainly entertain it...I think they were out the first few times until i got the hang of it!!
Joslynj11 i use to be way more active and used to do yoga but haven't been, so i guess starting now would be bad.  I know you're not suppose to change anything when TTC but i've gained at least 10lbs since all these meds, I'm sure i haven't had the best eating habits but i didn't think it was 10lbs worthy.  Thats suppose to be my baby weight :(  I can't spare an oz right now ugh!!  I got excited thinking we're on the same cycle as I'm thinking AF will be here sat/sun so we shall see.  If my body cooperates i would start stemming right away as having low amh shes not doing bcp with me.  Fx crossed for us both :)
mandasand curious about the PGS too as it is expensive 5k, and i'm paying out of pocket for the IVF so thats way costly.
elisam511 welcome and sorry you find yourself here!  I think we all can say we have wished and prayed just like you not to have to travel down this road. Funny how we never wish for AF but I'd like to get the show on the road so I'd like it to just get here now.  sat/sun is my guess.  Do you have your protocol? will you be going for u/s tomorrow?  Best of luck with everything!!
JamieH2000 my apologies i think i missed one of your posts!  sorry you have to wait and things aren't running as smoothly as they should for u!!  Its interesting when you mentioned your antral follicle count being 12 so they expected more from you.  Granted my antral follicle count was back in feb/march when the dr first counted but she saw 6 and 8 which is 14 so they really expected a good 10 from me, so it was really disappointing not seeing more.  Really hoping my body will cooperate this month.
Time will tell because its my body that has to do this, no matter how gung ho i am, we all know anything can happen between the blood work and us!
byrneme sorry for your losses was that naturally that it happened?  I'm scared of doing pgs if i dont have a lot to test...i guess i should cross that bridge when i get there.  I pay for everything out of pocket so it sucks a lil bit more!
slp330 hope ur feeling good sending u sticky vibes!!  how many eggs did you retrieve, is this your first cycle.  Excited to here good news!!
Jsmorrissey i'm tipping my hat off to you, having to do the shots at a wedding oh my!!  I had to sneak the meds into my moms fridge and do them in the bathroom so thats as tough as its been....which was pretty interesting...but i got through it.  I'm trying to keep it from my family so they dont worry.  My mom up until this point really knows everything, she just worrys so much I don't want to put this out there too.  I worry enough for everyone!

IVF#1 August 2016 (Antagonist protocol 4/5 eggs) Cancelled cycle :( RE thought I would get at least 10.
IVF#2 Sept 2016 (microdose luporn pro - disappearing follies, ONLY ONE, convert to IUI) BFN

    IVF#4 March 2017 //EPP  (10 ER (1 wonky so 9 ER) 7F, 3B (5AB, (2)5BB) PGS tested- ALL abnormal  :'(
    IVF#5 April 2017 // EPP (7 ER, 7F yes! 6B) 2/5 day 4/6 day - 2 PGS normal! yes!! :)
    IVF#6 May 2017 // Antagonist didn't have time for Estrogen Priming...(4 ER, 3 F, 3B) (5AB, (2) 5BB) 2 PGS normal, yes!! :)
IVF#7 June 2017 // EPP praying this is it and then on to an FET!

  • Got my protocol today! We are doing antagonist protocol with lupron trigger....I get my calender Tuesday and am going to to finish up any other testing I have then go time! Hopefully doing retrieval in mid/late october, but found out today he doesn't want to do fresh cycle with me because of my higher AMH level, so FET it is (but probably not until January because of scheduling and downtime over the holidays).

@mandasand We are doing PGS testing. The way the doctor put it, if I was under 30 he would say don't do it, but since I am almost 32 he says it is a grey area, that he would say about 60% of our embryos will be chromosomally normal. For me, I want to know 100%, because that 40% will results in 1.) no pregnancy, 2.) miscarriage bc of abnormality, or 3.)child with chromosomal abnormalities (most likely downs or other serious issue). He said he won't transfer the chromosomally abormal embryos (not that I would want to do that), but he has had couples that are so desperate that they want to. He just doesn't feel ok bringing a child into the world that could have severe issues. I agree, but of course others may have a different opinion.

On the other hand, if you want to look at it from a financial standpoint. It costs $4-5K, BUT say you have 10 embryos...if if 6 are normal and 4 are not...what if I had put those 4 in and they had resulted in miscarraiges? I would have to pay another 4K for another FET...so in the long run you could potentially save yourself money and the heartbreak of a miscarriage.

    Just food for thought!

  • Thanks everyone for the kind words. Sometimes I feel like the only one with my head in the calendar counting down the days until I can start.

@bryneme I am so so sorry for your loss.

@zoey1019 that is a great way to look at PGS.it is $3,500 at our clinic and we are paying out of pocket. Does the PGS change the time table much? I have never been the most patient person and this process is killing me. I am always hurrying up to wait.

Does anyone know what a "good" antral follicle count is?

It does lengthen timeline because they have to do an FET instead of fresh transfer, so minimum another cycle, some doctors want 2 cycles to pass before starting.

i understand! I wanted this baby a year ago! I am the type that wants everything yesterday, but with something like this i figure a couple months will help in the long run!

  • Soo im getting ready to give my first injections follistim 225 iu any side effects i should be looking for i get headaches so im afraid i cant take anything for it is tylenol ok it barely helps me ugh
  • @Mia'shope- welcome to the group and I really hope this cycle works for you after everything you have been through!!
elisam511-I watched your video and I think its great! I can relate to your situation because I also have DOR and had a few BFNs from IUI this spring/summer. I have contemplated doing a video/blog like you, but don't quite have the guts yet to be so public! I have told a decent amount of family and friends, but after our IVF was cancelled in August due to lack of response, i am finding myself wanting to be more private and just not talk about it since the best way I can cope right now is just to try to not think about it. When we *hopefully* have success, I plan to make a video annoucement with the whole journey. We have been taking pics and videos since the first IUI and my DH likes to edit videos, so hopefully its not too many more months until we can make our success videos. Keep posting the links to your videos, its nice to watch them and know we aren't alone!
Hopeful_mom- I know, its so hard we can't just MAKE our bodies cooperate. I have been trying to think positive and take care of myself, but so far it hasn't been giving me the results I want! You have probably said this already, but what protocol are you on? I really hope this one works for you! I am hopeful my new estrogen priming protocol will work, though its hard to think I won't even start estrogen patches for 4 more weeks and then another 2 weeks after that for stims. Just trying to be patient. It will be worth it if it works!
Zoey1019- I hear you about wanting this baby by now already! this process is such a waiting game! I think its smart to do PGS if you can afford it and you have a decent number of embryos! Why go through all the pain of it not working with abnormal embryos if you can screen them? I would definitely consider it if I got more than 4 embryos.. but I am just hoping i get at least a few embryos to day 5 (since I have low reserve), and will likely put in 2, so the cost may not be worth it for us to test just a couple since I'm not really expecting to have any to freeze.
Hoping4Success- I have done follistim and sometimes on much higher doses, and I really didn't notice any side effects... hopefully you won't have any either!

sorry if I missed some ladies.. its hard to keep up! But I am rooting for every one and will keep following along while i wait :)

  • @JamieH2000 thank you jamie i hope i dont so far im good lol first night of follistim done i start menapur tommorow so i hope the side effects dont happen at all especially the headaches i can deal with everything else but that i hear you on having low reserve it scares me to know how much i will get out of this im all oop so thos would be it for me for ivf because i would need to save up to do more and by then my time will tick abd i will get older and def way less eggs so im trying to stay positive in all this all we can do we cant control anything at this point we are given the cards so we have to hope for the best right i know it sucks but we will all get a bfp soon
  • Hoping4Success- I hope the menopur goes good tonight. I didn't take that one, so can't comment on side effects. Not sure if it will help you, but I just remember that whatever side effects the meds or procedures  cause, its nothing compared to the pain or emotional despair I have experienced when a cycle failed or when my IVF was cancelled. While I don't enjoy shots at all, I had gotten to the point where I was almost excited to do them (in a weird way), because I knew they were really the only thing that could help me achieve success. Try to not stress too much on the meds and try to enjoy that they can lead to you hopefully being pregnant in a matter or weeks!

  • Ya i know im super excited in a weird way too togive them like i saod menapur starts tommorow ive heard it burns so we will see the follistim was kinda hurting and burning as i was injecting it in but it went away we will see i hope it leads to those golden eggs where i can freeze them im doing a freeze all so hopefully they make it to day 5
  • @Joslynj11 I enjoyed day one of yoga, skipped yesterday but I really think it's a good idea for me :)
@Hopeful_mom maybe try asking your dr about exercise/weight. You don't want to shock your body and probably don't want to lose weight while TTC but some gentle exercise might be helpful for your mental and physical health.

My AF arrived yesterday so start menopur tonight.
Feeling nervous and excited, fingers crossed the increased dosage does the job this time!
Also glad to have fewer injections this time.
  • @Nellin i start menapur tommorow too i started my follistim last night wasnt bad bloated today though what protocol are you on ?
  • @jamieH2000 you mentioned ur cancel ivf for poor response, how poor was it? With low AMH in the category of DOR seems I didn't respond as expected.  Funny u ask my protocol as I asked my dr the name she called it as well but just gave me the rundown.  We're adding lupron with gonalf and menupar.  After watching too many vlogs I'm now questions if my meds r right etc.  this really is such a hard process!!
@nellin @Hoping4Success might be stem buddies with you ladies too, waiting to if my body is ready to go for another round as AF is here.

I have to say this is the first Time in almost 2 years I didn't cry seeing AF and was happy HA!!! Praying all is good to go but we shall see.....
