Men who carry cell phones in their front pockets are less likely to get their partner pregnant.
Women who are Vitamin D deficient (and many are) are less likely to get pregnant.
It is not necessary or helpful to lay on your back following intercourse, especially not for longer than 3-4 minutes. That's how you get a UTI. Go pee.
WHAT. This is what pisses me off about doctors sometimes. My RE said I was vitamin D deficient, as so many are, so take a vitamin D supplement. End of instruction. So I got them, but, to be honest, I forget to take it. Most of the time. I thought it was just "oh, you're vitamin D deficient, take a supplement," like my PCP said. Had he said "Vitamin D deficiency is linked to lower fertility and pregnancy rates" then I'd be popping that shit like Tic-Tacs! I just googled, got the info. I'll be taking the D daily from now on. Giggity.

@EL824 That was my DH’s original reaction to the suggestion
of sperm friendly lube. 2 cycles later I brought it up again and he said “I don’t
know why we wouldn’t use it”. **Eyeroll** because you freaked out last time I
mentioned it!! Ugh
@swimsister This sounds exactly like something my husband would do. And then act like I was the weird one. No.
@EL824@laurad75 If he's that freaked out by the baby making lube, just pour it into an Astroglide bottle.

@somethingclever LOL! Funnily enough we have astroglide at home right now. I was seriously thinking about purchasing their TTC lube and hope he doesn't notice the difference on the bottle
@luND We haven't really bothered to adjust things saliva-wise either. (TMI?) Oral is almost always a part of our foreplay routine. I tried to look into the research as well but I would consider it inconclusive based on the fact that most studies incorporated copious amounts of saliva to produce findings. Saliva tends to dry up quickly as a lubricant so I wouldn't imagine there would be too much left. It may marginally lower chances but I would be surprised if it was the single factor preventing anyone from getting pregnant! If it takes us a while I'm sure I'll start preventing against every marginal factor I can think of though haha
Some of you may have seen in TWW I am just finding out that excisional cervical procedures such as LEEP/cold knife cone may damage the ability to produce cervical mucus. So there's a new fertility fact for me!
Also, I took a course on reproductive epidemiology in my graduate program earlier this year. I'm very interested in reproductive health. While this isn't necessarily a "fact" it might be worth mentioning that it is still difficult to distinguish infertile couples from subfertile couples, with many studies finding that a lot of couples who haven't become pregnant after a year of trying are working with reduced odds but still have a high probability of achieving pregnancy if they try for a long enough duration. The "20% per month" chance of pregnancy rule is based on population level averages, so each couple will be different with some having a greater chance and others having diminished (but not always impossible) chance. Its interesting to think about because I feel like fertility is discussed sometimes in black and white terms, like there are just "infertile" and "fertile" couples... when in reality we are all somewhere on a continuum.

Whenever anyone mentions concerns about age and pregnancy, I always link to this article.
In particular:
The widely cited statistic that one in three women ages 35 to 39 will not be pregnant after a year of trying, for instance, is based on an article published in 2004 in the journal Human Reproduction. Rarely mentioned is the source of the data: French birth records from 1670 to 1830.
The article was written by the author of The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant, which I love as she looks at the actual scientific research behind most common TTC things and tells you whether they're worthwhile or not.
So this week my mom sent me an article (she is researching TTC almost as much as I am) - that women without tonsils or an appendix may be more fertile! I had my appendix removed and (16 months of TTC) clearly it hasn't made that much of a difference. But I thought it was interesting/entertaining.

Speaking of Pre-seed, I learned something interesting from my acupuncturist yesterday. We were talking about all kinds of TMI stuff, especially the need for lube, and I mentioned using it. She told me that Pre-seed contains parabens and that there are other sperm friendly products on the market that don't. I haven't had a chance to research either the effect parabens might have, nor other products, but I thought I would share that.

-Drinking excessive caffeine (like 5 cups of coffee a day) -I already mentioned the cell phone thing, but that's real! -Vitamin deficiency - especially Zinc -Free radicals - so you want to cut out things like eating and drinking out of plastic containers, especially if you heat those containers up. You can also have him supplement with CoQ10 or other things that help cell structure. -Excessive heat in that area (so he can't have baths either!!) - Basically any alcohol doesn't do good things for his sperm, but if he drinkings excessively that can really screw it up. - Pot has been shown to mess with sperm, but I believe on a lower level than alcohol.
@Buthayna Interesting. I hadn't heard that. Off to fall into a google rabbit hole!

Since the topic of twins has come up several times. teenagers and women over 35 have a higher chance of conceiving twins than women in their 20's and early 30's. I believe it has to do with the increased likelihood of ovulating more than one egg.

@antoto you forgot to mention cigarettes/nicotine. Also, apparently sperm takes three months to develop so any changes DH makes today supposedly will only benefit the sperm three months from now (my DH just quit smoking, thankfully, but dayummmm)
When I was doing research because I thought DH was the problem for us, I found a study that said vitamin c is very good for sperm production. The study done showed that it could increase sperm 112%-120% if taking 200mg or 1000mg daily. I also have him taking a zinc supplement on top of that too. Although now that we have the results of his SA back (even though I haven't talked to the dr) it seems it is really working or not needed...lucky for us I guess. But he is still taking them anyways just to be sure.
We use preseed and it's a life saver because when it's scheduled sex H takes FOR-EV-ER and oh the chafing is terrible. The only concern I have is that if I put on too much he goes numb.

LOL yeah it's funny how we all obsess over our own health while TTC and then no one really thinks much about the dudes... even though they are 50% of this situation. I had to have a handful of real talks with H about this. I think guys are pretty receptive to talking about it if they think they aren't fertile themselves. Men, in general, take a huge amount of pride in that type of thing.
@eggplantface how much preseed do you use? Actually, for anyone who uses preseed how much do you use? I see in the threads that many ladies use preseed so I just looked up what it is. I'm definitely going to use it next cycle! H might think it's weird, but I'm still going to use it.

the impatient Womens guide to getting pregant is a great companion to TCOYF I highly recommend it to those that haven't read it
I really like getting all this information but now I'm thinking too many drinks and phone in the front pocket is CLEARLY our problem. So it's that creating more stress thus making it more difficult as well? I cant help but think after 8 months there must be a clear reason why. It can't possibly be bad karma.
@leekat14 Yeah... This has been a little stressful along with helpful. I just sent the NIH article about cell phones and sperm to DH and he immediately said he wasn't going to move his phone because he knows our lack of pregnancy is because of my short luteal phase. You KNOW it? WTF.
@luckywife10 I use it like a regular lube, applying directly to H, I don't insert it with the applicators. I try to use the tiniest amount I can. I've read other threads on here talking about women who used the amount recommended and it was waaaay too much. A little preseed goes a long way! Do a thread search for it for more info.
