My activity is still limited, but I found out that they won't stop labor if I go in at 35 weeks. That's one week away. I'm going to vacuum my rugs right now and sweep the floors, maybe do the dishes - and then light my pumpkin candles. Work? What's that?
I haven't gotten my TDAP either but I've been busy harping on my family to get theirs. At my appointment on Tuesday I asked about it and they said they dont offer it so I have to get it done at like Walmart or some place like that. I'm still procrastinating. Whoops.
@CopperBoom86& @mizzkbrat I keep putting mine off too. At my last appt I told them I would do it at the next (this Thursday), but we are leaving to go out of town right after & I don't want to be sore or have to deal with any effects of it while I'm away....so gonna try to put it off another two weeks. And my H is throwing a fit because he claims the one time he got a flu shot, he got the flu, so he doesn't want to do it. I keep putting off that argument too because I just don't feel like hearing him whine right now.

Interesting cultural tidbit: in Germany they don't give pregnant women the TDAP unless they've never had it. I got mine 8 years ago so am almost due for the booster shot and was surprised to hear this. I'll be updating all of my vaccinations once baby is here.
And you can usually get two at once - the doctor will have a list of vaccines that shouldn't be given together.
Edit to add my FFFC: I judge people (native speakers) with bad grammar.
+1 on the judging bad grammar! But since I live in the South, it's mostly writing that I judge. Since, you know, a lot of us in the South really do speak poorly even if we're super educated and classy. Sometimes you speak well, enunciate, and use your best grammar. And sometimes "I might could go to Walmart for your socks, DH, but I ain't buyin' you no more freakin' candy, you monster, you can get that for your ownself!"
But when I see someone's writing that has misspellings, improper grammar, or misuse of punctuation I judge, and judge harshly. "Can't your figure out your/you're yet? You're 30 years old!"
I love having a British husband sometimes, because Southern phrases are still new to him. One day we were in the car and -I don't remember the topic- I said something like "Yeah, you used to could be able to do that here, but now you can't." And he literally had no idea what I was saying.

This entire post is my liiiiiiife. I don't always speak properly and I may use slang like "ain't" on purpose from time to time, but I sure as hell know the difference between your/you're and there/their/they're, etc.
Also, when I read the bolded, I was totally tracking with you and it took me a split second to remember that's a Southern thing lol.
@mizzkbrat I asked my doctor about this and she said it's fine to get the flu shot and the TDAP at the same time. I did and felt a little tired the next day, but no other side effects.
I don't get the flu shot, ever and I don't think I'm doing it even now that I'll be a mother.
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
Being a Yankee I admit I also judge southerners' grammar! Though I always assumed TV exaggerated. Then my sister went to Auburn. TV didn't even come close to portraying the awful grammar! And these were University students!!! Cultural shock. @bamacoop@CopperBoom86
@sportiegrl1213 - I've never had the shot and I've also never had the flu. I'm getting the Tdap, but still not getting the flu shot, regardless of what my doctor says.
@books&icecream - There are definitely degrees of Southern-ness haha. I've had other Southerners ask me where I'm from originally because my accent isn't very thick and I try not to speak like a hick. When I tell them I was born and raised in lower Alabama, they're typically very surprised. But I do know the ones you're referring to. If you've got a super thick Southern accent and use words like "y'all" and "ain't" too much, I automatically assume you're stupid.
@ibabyloveb87 - Watch it, lady! This Auburn fan's got class!
I went years without getting the flu shot because I always got sick when I got it. But I was working in a nursing home lay year and basically had to get it. Didn't get sick. So I probably will this year just cause my mom will want me to if I'm around my grandma and I forced them all to go get TDaP for me. Lol
This is probably super unrelatable to most of you but I hate (and by hate I mean get super bent out of shape over) when people go on short term trips to developing (or third world) counties and say things like "they're so poor but they're SO happy!" like oh really? you really took the time to get to know them in your two week fly by trip and have come to understand them so well? That "the poor are happy" is an easier narrative to swallow than that the poor are desperate and will flash a smile, a good attitude, and gratitude when the rich westerner has come around to offer something of short-term benefit.
I've caught the flu once... it was the year I got the flu shot. I don't get it anymore. I know those two things are unrelated and that the flu shot made my symptoms less severe sooner than DH, who caught it from me but hadn't received the shot... but I still can't help but relate them in my mind and won't be getting the flu shot again.
I also judge poor written grammar. And I openly correct it. I also can't stand "Me and Bob went to the store..." SERIOUSLY?!
likewise, I also dislike it when people use "Bob and I" incorrectly. Like... would you like to go to the store with Bob and I?... should actually be Bob and me vs Bob and I.
But I also fully expect that I'll make that error (and others like it) every now and then when I'm just not paying attention... so I don't correct people.
@kmolleltz I could go on that topic for a long time but I'd probably offend half the board by the end so I'll just say I completely agree with you! Even though I've never been to Africa so maybe my opinion would change if I experienced it but I am 95% sure I completely agree with you

This is so me!! I get so many "Where are you from......New Jersey?" comments and I'm all "...........no. Have you ever been to New Jersey? Pretty sure they don't sound like me."
But I'm also really bad about speaking with different accents all the time anyway. I have my "normal" accent that I use most of the time, I have my "just got off the phone with my mom" accent that is more Southern because my family speaks more Southern, I have my "ghetto aw hell naw uh uh, B!" accent for when things get tight, I have my "I'm in a job interview speaking like I have no accent whatsoever" accent.
We had a convocation class in college where a lady came and gave a presentation about Alabama accents and it was the best thing ever. We had one girl in the class with the classic Paula Dean/Scarlett O'Hara/old-time/rich, WASP Southern accent and we picked on that poor girl mercilessly, making her repeat "fine white rice" over and over again to hear her long, drawn-out "I" sounds. It was great.
I've had to really catch myself with the judging on accents, though. That girl sounded like she stepped out of 1856 Antebellum 'Bama, but she was outrageously smart and nice. I've heard kids debate politics, religion, Latin verb conjugations in the thickest ghetto/redneck/hillbilly/trashy accents you've ever heard and be the smartest person in the room, let alone in the debate itself.
But also.... I feel ya on the Auburn fans though. Don't none of them Barners know how to talk good!
On the subject of flu and tdap shots, I've never had a flu shot and I've never had the flu so I won't be getting one now either. The tdap, I have no idea when the last time I had one was but I'm always surprised when I see everyone talking about getting it and freaking out over their family not getting it. I'm on my 3rd baby and it has never been suggested to me by any doctor that I get one or anyone in my family. Is this something your doctors are recommending? Just curious cause I'm all like...
@kelliott09 My OB said to absolutely get the tdap and have my parents get one too since they'll be around the baby all the time. I'd rather just get it to be safe. If my baby developed pertussis and ended up in the hospital because I didn't get the shot, I would hate myself. The flu shot is not so pushed, but I'll probably get one this year.
@kelliott09 Those pertussis/whooping cough commercials are pitiful enough to make me ask about it. I haven't seen them on in a while but they were pitiful and scary at the same time!
TDAP was just included in one of my appointments. It wasn't even given as an optional thing, not that I would have refused it anyway.

I never got the flu shot until this past year. I've had the flu maybe twice in my adult life but my doc said if we're TTC, which we were at the time, it can't hurt but could help. I'm glad I got it because if it kept me from getting the flu while pregnant, it was worth it! That being said, with a LO at home, I'll definitely continue to get it. I'm no scientist so someone correct me if I'm wrong but can't you carry the flu germ without getting sick? Like, maybe my immune system fought it off so I never present symptoms but can still pass it to LO whose immune system isn't strong enough to fight it?

Even here in Tanzania it is strongly recommended (to the point of probably not optional if you are attending clinic) to get the TDAP. Though it was not mentioned that DH or other family should. But DH just re-did his not that long ago so I'm not worried about him.
@MRSCORKER - don't think so. And just an FYI for all... The flu vaccine won't necessarily keep you from getting the flu (it'll only protect against certain strains with new ones popping up constantly) but helps make symptoms less severe when you do catch it.... So you feel like offing yourself because you feel so bad for fewer days if you've had the flu shot lol
I'm going to ask at my next appt about the tdap but I honestly don't even know anyone that has gotten one during pregnancy. I googled it and found this so this could also be a possibility why my doctor has never mentioned it.
FACT:Drug companies did not test the safety and effectiveness of giving influenza or Tdap vaccine to pregnant women before the vaccines were licensed in the U.S.12, 13 and there is almost no data on inflammatory or other biological responses to these vaccines that could affect pregnancy and birth outcomes.14
FACT:The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists influenza and Tdap vaccines as either Pregnancy Category B or C biologicals,15 which means that adequate testing has not been done in humans to demonstrate safety for pregnant women and it is not known whether the vaccines can cause fetal harm or affect reproduction capacity. The manufacturers of influenza and Tdap vaccines state that human toxicity and fertility studies are inadequate and warn that the influenza and Tdap vaccines should "be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed."
@bnsmith85 Gotcha... H basically refuses to get it because the one time he did, he got the flu. I'm whatever about it, I mean, I guess I figure it can't hurt?

Um, no. Just no. The CDC clearly recommends that pregnant women get both the flu shot and TDAP vaccine during pregnancy. It's standard medical care, and I highly doubt that you "don't know anyone" who has gotten one during pregnancy. The misinformation in that article is so bad I don't even know where to begin:
"Mercola has been criticized by business, regulatory, medical, and scientific communities. A 2006 BusinessWeek editorial stated his marketing practices relied on "slick promotion, clever use of information, and scare tactics."[3] In 2005, 2006, and 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Mercola and his company to stop making illegal claims regarding his products' ability to detect, prevent, and treat disease.[7] The medical watchdog site Quackwatch has criticized Mercola for making "unsubstantiated claims [that] clash with those of leading medical and public health organizations and many unsubstantiated recommendations for dietary supplements.""

I got the TDAP but am do for the flu shot. I speak "country" with poor grammar. I know how to use proper grammar , but its just how we do things in the south. When writing, i try to use proper grammar. English was always one of my strong points, as was spelling. I try not to police others on their mistakes. My grandfather, who raised me, only completed the third grade. He can barely read and he has to sound things out to spell. So I guess that taught me to be a little more understanding.
Just to let y'all know, I'm very cautious with my spelling and punctuation in my replies. Over the past 8 months or so, I've realized many of you are peeved by such errors. I don't want y'all to think I'm a blooming idiot because of grammatical mistakes.
I always wanted a cool accent. My whole family lives in California and I'm from Michigan. About 10 years ago they pointed out to me that I have the thickest midwestern accent they'd ever heard. I didn't realize midwesterners had accents so I started asking around about it. All the midwesterners I know were in agreement, my accent is redonk thick. For those who don't know, a Michigan accent is super nasally. I sound like I'm talking through my nose. It's awful and I hate it now that I'm aware of it. Ignorance was bliss. Lol
