Re: Weekly Random (9/4)

  • @kswiger06 I am so dreading the move from mommy to mom!  DD has pretty much moved to Momma, which I feel like is a decent middle ground, but when I woke DS up today he snuggled in and said "Good morning, Momma" and my heart exploded from sweetness and broke at the same time because he didn't call me mommy.  I'm not ready for him to switch!

  • I feel like I cant keep up over here! Regarding the "cervical cancer/HPV shots" I got all 3 of them in my teens. Still got HPV apparently so that's cool. I guess the shots can't protect you from all the strands? Or that is what my PCP said. And I got the bad kind where they had to take a chunk out my cervix and cauterize that sh!t. OB visits every 3 months for a year and a half but I don't have cervical cancer or HPV so yay? .. (!). But my current OB said that because I had that chunk taken out of my cervix, it may take a while to dilate once I go into labor and then all of a sudden BAM I'm at 10 cm....
  • @BlondePeanut good god I hope this nesting thing won't get more intense in 3rd tri when we're too big to effectively satiate it. Totally using that as an excuse when DH tells me to chill btw
  • @silvercamaro77 In the past I have basically begged my son to call me momma. Our daughter occasionally calls me momma instead of mommy and I still like it. My son however has turned down any option besides mom... he's a tough negotiator lol. On a side note though, when I was talking to my mom about this one time, she said "who cares? You don't call me mommy." Hahaha double standards

  • @jlellis603 it protects against four strains out of hundreds, including one that causes genital warts and some of the strains most likely to become cancerous. I had it when I was 22, but I'd already had HPV at that point.
  • @gretchypoo OMG that is adorable!!!

  • @Gretchypoo I LOVE that! That sign was on my Pinterest board and I was considering the same sort of theme but I decided to go with mint, gray, navy and Coral if it's a girl.
But I seriously adore the adventure theme. Can't wait to see pics when you're done!

Yeah that's what I thought but didn't want to say hundreds because I wasn't sure - that sounded like a lot. It is such a common thing that women get that. I didn't read the article and I haven't thought that far ahead about vaccinating my kids for that but at least there's a vaccine that protects against the more serious strains.
  • We're not doing much of a nursery either. DD's room is the Pottery Barn Kids Haley bedding theme. So even like the area rug, curtains, etc. They will share a room until we make the playroom into a bedroom, so I will probably just get some PBK sheeting that matches DD's them. There's a cute pink owl one I like so far.

  • So on a completely random note, I have mentioned wanting to be a teacher for awhile.

This morning I was in line at Dunkin Donuts and I overheard 3 moms behind me talking about their kids' teachers.  They were swapping stories about Mrs. XYZ and such and it kind of intimidated me!  I didn't realize that parents talked so much about teachers amongst themselves and how much they know.  I know I'd have to interact with parents as part of the job but geez, listening to that was super intimidating.

I wanted similar colors but was having trouble finding anything! so I figured I could do colors or a theme, not both lol

I'm with your mom. You're making into a bigger deal by battling about it - now it's an act of rebellion to call you "mom"!

PS I sill call my mom "momma" sometimes. DS (7) usually calls me that, I think, but it depends - mom, momma, mommy... Whatev :)
  • I had no idea that mommy/momma/mom was a controversial topic! I'm pretty sure I called my mom "Mom" from the get go.
  • Speaking of nurseries...this will be my 4th kid and the only baby that had an actual decorated nursery was my first born. Lol. I've come to find I don't really see a point. My babies ALL end up sleeping in our room for a long while. By the time they get to their own room it's time for a twin bed. Lol. So, I say screw it:)
  • @Gretchypoo, I really like that! Now H is saying he doesn't love my color combo idea. Ugh. Lol.

I didn't know this either. My kids all call me "mama". Every now and then they say Mommy. I still call my mom "mommy"!
  • On the mom/mommy/momma- In reality I don't think I really care which they use, it's just one more sign that they're getting older and aren't my tiny little babies anymore and that's the part that gets me.  The same thing happens when I suddenly realize they can actually see over the counter without standing on anything.  It all happens so fast, but can feel like such a slow tedious process at the same time.

I loved doing nurseries with my first 2, but we're out of bedrooms so this little munchkin is going to have to chill in our room for awhile.  Once all the financial craziness of having a baby and having 3 kids in daycare settles down, hopefully we'll be in a good position to start looking at houses again so that I can set up a room for this one because I get so nesty looking at all the cute nursery ideas!

The first 2 kids stayed in our room for 3-6 months and we used the crib for as long as possible to keep them contained during the night and not constantly getting back up at bedtime.  With DD we had even converted her crib to the toddler bed, then redid it to the crib because we realized she wasn't ready to stay tucked in at night.  DS just started climbing out of his so our hand was forced with him and we're still battling with him to stay tucked in almost a year after he switched.

  • My 6 year old still calls me mama, I love it <3

  • Regarding the HPV vaccine, I'm 25 and I never got it. It was never even mentioned to me by my OB. My mom mentioned once, but never pushed for it. I totes got HPV two years ago..... So that sucks.
Did you get the bad kind where they had to cut a chunk of your cervix out?

@PerraSucia I had an abnormal Pap Smear and they determined I had high risk HPV (or something like that, high grade? I don't remember the exact terminology). They had to do a biopsy and then it cleared up on it's own when I went back 6 months later.

  • When we found out the sex we picked out the bedding that we liked and that will be our theme. It's light purple with some blue and green and butterflies. We moved into our house about a month before BFP so our 2 extra bedrooms had all the moving boxes in them. One bedroom is pretty small but the one next to ours is a good size so I knew that would be our nursery. We still have to clean out both rooms, put extra boxes in the attic, move some furniture around, and we'll have to paint the nursery before I really start on anything. But I ordered 1 small item from the bedding collection to see the color so I can pick out paint. I told H that would give us a kick to really work on the rooms. It's just hard when I'm tired/can't lift much, he works nights and every other weekend, and it's so hot.

  • @scifichick09 that seems like pretty much best case scenario. They say basically everyone who has sex will get either hsv or hpv sometime in their lives..

Oh, also, for all those interested in nursery ideas, go check out the thread called "setting up nursery?" in the O16 board. There's almost 800 posts (with some pictures) and lots of good recommendations. I lurked over there for a while last night
  • @BumpasaurusRex I sent you a PM

Also @Partyof6? I would love to send you a PM but it won't let me

  • @Lafreeman21 I pinned that same pegboard and plank wall when I was pregnant with DS!  We did gray/blue walls, and painted the pegboard a hunter green. We sprayed his initial in orange, and for the wire baskets, I found some at Target that were rubberized around the top, but they were pink so I sprayed them orange as well.  I had extra space on the board so I picked up some of the cute metal buckets with the little chalkboard labels from Target and hung those up as well.  We put things like tubes of diaper cream (once we didn't need the giant tubs anymore), fingernail clippers, baby comb, baby thermometer and lube, etc. in the buckets and it worked really well.

Our crib was also wood-toned so instead of doing an actual plank wall, I made a sign from 4-5 pieces of wood and stained them pretty dark.  Then I cut out the words Buck Off! in some cardstock and attached them to the planks and painted the sign so that when I removed the cardstock the words would be in stain and the rest would be painted.  Then I distressed it some to let some more of the stain through.

I think you can make all 3 of your inspiration pics mesh pretty well together- kind of a vintage Star Wars theme.  The colors in the 3 pics seem to go together too.  I don't think it would be too hard to make it work in the room you have.

  • @Lafreeman21 I agree with @silvercamaro77 I think you can make it work! esp since your stuff is similar colors. spray paint is your friend and there's no need to get EVERYTHING done-- just the major stuff
  • Oh man I just got majorly sucked in to the October 16 Nursery posts! That will be so fun when we start one of those here!

  • @Spicyweiner That's a cute dress! I use to love going to military balls. When my husband was in the Army we were stationed at Ft. Campbell and they always held them at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. So much fun!
