  • @annabenanna The ages won't be the same, but we traveled to the UK when DS was 5 months old and it was so pleasant! No, I'm not being sarcastic. lol. He actually slept 4.5 of the 8 hour flight, and he wasn't a good sleeper AT ALL. When he was hungry, I could just pop him on the boob, so that was super easy.

They did have a cot we reserved and it attached to the bulk head. That's where he slept. The one thing about it that could have been (but wasn't) SO annoying, is that if the fasten seatbelt light came on, we'd have to get him out and buckle him in with me (they had a seatbelt that attached to mine). I was all, "So, you're telling me if my infant is sound asleep on this transatlantic flight, I have to wake him and sit him up in my lap?!"

Shockingly (and beyond luckily) that never happened while he was asleep. But, man I would've been pissed. I would ask your airline if they have the infant cots. You can also google your airline and "infant travel" or something. I found a lot of info online, including tips to make the flight easier.

It was so much easier than the flight to the UK we did with him when he was 18 months.

  • @F47, yes!!!!  We inquired with Japan Airlines and they do have infant cots.... BUT they won't let me reserve it until he's born!!!  They're like "we have to have a birthdate and name please"  and DH is like "we can invent the due date and give them the name we decided on. right?"  we've tried to plead, lol.  but they are making us wait.... so i just hope there aren't that many other infants on the flight so we can have our cot!
  • @annabenanna I am already looking forward to all of those pictures to come! Totes jelly... and +1 for young babies being easy travel buddies. They mostly just sleep, which is awesome :)

@F47 I just LOVE it at dinner time when the table is set, we're all sitting down finally, I'm ready to eat, and then "Hey mom, can I have some ice?" "Hey mom, you forgot the napkins" "Hey mom, where is the salt?"

@SpaceBurger OMG that happened to my MySpace once back in the day- "Big Busted Blonde DTF" or something along those lines posted to the bulletins. It was obviously spam, afterall, anybody who knew me knew I didn't have any boobs... haha

  • Thinking happy thoughts for you,  @von1976!!
  • @von1976 positive thoughts to you!

@annabenanna I feel like you could become some instagram fame person with that trip and your LO. Take lots of pics!

We will be planning to fly to the capital probably in feb/mar to go to the embassy (and the beach) to register LOs birth abroad/deal with passport stuff/hopefully get DH's passport but the flight is only just over an hour so I'm not too worried. NEVER doing that trip by bus again (13 hours!)

  • @Kaessi @NicholeL16 Some people are totally cool with leaving their babies, but I never was. And I never really felt like I "needed a break" from them either. Some do, and that's fine, but it's not for everyone.
  • My brother and SIL are the "we need a break" parents and consistently leave my niece with my mom for the weekend (drop her off Friday pick her up Sunday early evening).  It boggles my mind because they started doing this when she was about 3 weeks old and hasn't stopped - with at least once a month weekend off.  AND I heard she wants to start trying for a second.

But because my bro & SIL are like this, my mom is saying that she's going to have my son for the weekend and blah blah blah.  There is only one night I can think of as a maybe and that's our baseball banquet, but even then I'm not sure (and it'll be one night not the whole weekend).  The only thing I tell my mom is all bets are off if my little guy is colicky because then that's not helping anyone.

  • @serenaxo84 I'm exactly the same way. I'm a working mom, so I'm extremely protective of my time with my kid. I will say that breastfeeding provided a convenient excuse for a while. We finally let DD have a sleepover with my parents when she was 3 and then I kind of wished that we had done it sooner.  :) So there's that. . .
  • @AllyTheKid, omg keep us posted please!  How are you feeling mama?

@kmolleltz, I would love to make money just traveling and instagramming. hahaha.

I feel like I could only leave baby with a few people I trust (my mom and sis being one of the few)---but on the other hand, I'm also all for having adult time sans baby and I know that means I have to be okay with leaving the baby with friends since our family is so far away.
  • One month and counting for you @ibabyloveb87!! Wahooo!!

  • @kmolleltz - I feel the need to do that after exercising. There's so much pressure; it feels like she's just going to fall out! I told my doctor about it and she said it was normal :/

  • Reading all your posts, I feel like mine is an UO in that I'm okay letting people take care of the baby for a few hours so my DH and I can have date night or whatever.  It may take me a few months for being comfortable with having him stay overnight with someone, but it would most likely be my mom or dad.  That being said, he's not actually here yet, so I don't know how I will actually feel.
  • @Piperella a couple of hours I'm good with, but not the whole weekend like my bro

  • I just got caught up.

Good vibes to the ladies feeling contractions. FX babies stay put a little longer...unless you're ready for them!

When I was sent to L&D last week for monitoring the first thing that I thought about was if I have a September baby I'd have to back to work in December. Which absolutely cannot happen. So now I'm trying to figure out what I'd do, but really, I just hope we make it until October 2nd, so it gets up past our showers and my sister's wedding on the 1st.

  • Playing catch up here cause I slept in this morning. Stupid cramps kept me up all night.

I don't see myself as the type that would need breaks, but I'm also spoiled in that if I want a night out with DH, I can leave my baby with my son. My mom will have the baby while I work, so it's not like she'll be begging to get her time in, and DH will want him home so he can see him since he works so much. So I don't think I'll be the type to hand baby over to anyone, but I probably won't be that type that can't do that either. Idk if that makes sense. Lol

  • I just was able to catch up after my dd was sick all weekend and then yesterday my SIL had her baby so my mom, sister and I drove to md to visit. A little on that; my mom has a truck (4 door) and it is a 2.5 hr drive to the hospital by my brother's. My older sister didn't offer to let me sit in the front so I was crammed in the back for the whole trip and then they decided to go shopping for 3 hours. Between the walking and cramped conditions, I was basically in tears by the time I got home. I really wanted to see my new nephew but ouch!

    So onto catching up:
    fx for everyone feeling contractions

@annabenanna you have such a glamorous life over there! My dh and I are such homebodies, I couldn't even imagine trying to manage your life, but it sounds amazing!

On the topic of baby watching; I really do think it's personal- my sister went back to work quickly and she works 2 jobs so she is so 'used to' leaving her son, that she doesn't think twice about asking someone to watch him. I am the opposite- I'm a SAHM but I really only leave my dd on rare occasions and have only spent the night away from her twice (both on my and dh's wedding anniversary). But like I said above, my dh and I love being at home so we never felt the need and my sister can't be home for 20 mintutes without going stir crazy. My problem is the ASSUMPTION everyone has- which is what I gather from everyone's post, rubs them the wrong way too. Yes, you may have had kids and wanted the time away but that doesn't mean we (the collective) will feel that way.

I just don't know when people will get that every pregnancy, kid, baby, person is different!!!
