@ThePax89 butting in on your comment to @AmyKDuffy That's the perfect description for what I've got going on... Wasn't sure how to put it into words but "fill the craters" it does.
Over the last few weeks, both nipples have white stuff in the craters like PP described. Tonight my left nipple started to express this white liquid from the piercing hole (I took my rings out years ago). I've never seen anything like it before now. Is it possible for colostrum to only show on one side? I'm really confused, because I never thought I would be able to breastfeed following my breast reduction so this is a new development for me.
@TinaBelcher fwiw, I never leaked, but was able to hand express some colostrum toward the end...and I still managed to nurse my daughter until she self weaned at 20 months. I completely get the anxiety. I was so worried with my first pregnancy, and am more worried now that my tits somehow broke.
@christac1010 my colostrum started off on just one side. That side also ended up being my better producing boob. Always check with your healthcare provider to be sure. Colostrum sometimes looks clearish yellow, but cloudy.
Yep, @BAJDesigns, leaked the colostrum today and that totally freaked me out (23 weeks). Like other posters most of my pregnancy changes have been in my boobs (still more so than my "bump") and I was not expecting that to happen.
For those wanting some sign of your super lactating power, I didn't have any nipple weirdness with my first born and I couldn't get anything out of them until he was born. We breastfed and continue to breastfeed before bed, he's 2.5 years old. So, never fear, your boobs still contain super powers.
Exactly what @Wholesome said. I had zero leakage or anything prior to birth, then the craziest milk supply ever pumping 10 Oz a session and bf until my daughter was 26 months. That was last month she self weaned. I swear my milk flavor changed when I got ku. She started making faces and quit nursing after that.
So I've started wearing nursing pads in my bra, not because I'm leaking anything, but because my nipples are so weirdly shaped now that I high beam through a padded bra and all my shirts!
No flaking here, but suddenly this week my nipples are SO SORE and sensitive. like the slightest brush against them feels like a punch to the nip!! Anyone else?

Fun new pregnancy trick - my leaky nipples just stuck to the inside of my bra. Time to pick up some nursing pads and sign up for the lactation classes that my hospital offers throughout pregnancy.
I hear ya, @christac1010, I've started to have crusties left in my bra when I take it off. I'm not ready for the pads or having to wear my bra at night when I start leaking!
Thank you sooooo much for posting this! I was going to draft a post about this today! I'm so tired of it. It resembles dead skin and makes me feel very gross and non-sexual. I had a breakdown and cried about it last night. I feel like my breasts are no longer a sexual organ and I just felt bad about myself and turned off.
Any suggestions for how to treat them would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, it's official. My son has weaned. He doesn't like colostrum so decided enough was enough with the weirdness and started chomping down when the taste invaded his mouth. I told him they're broken a few nights ago and last night was th first time he didn't cry himself to sleep for them but instead he said, "Neh broken" (we've always called breastfeeding Neh so he wouldn't get older and ask out loud for boobs or something else that would make us blush in public.) we made it for a good stretch there (he's 2 years, 8 months). I think if I didn't have colostrum, he'd be still nursing every night before bed forever.
im totally ready for the nipple weirdness to commence.
I didn't think my nipples were THAT bad, just a little bigger and longer... until last night my husband said "I hope they go back to normal after you're done breastfeeding" I died laughing. Guess they aren't looking as good as I thought!
@Wholesome congrats on your long amazing journey! I was convinced I'd need to find a college for my daughter that allowed a bed big enough for me to nurse her to sleep.
@sherrera92 Your right boob might be your star producer! Lol, but seriously. I think it's pretty common to have one produce more milk than the other so maybe the right side is already ramping up.
I am having major lightning nip today, only on the right side though. I never had this with DS.
@colleenkevin does it switch? My doctor said during a breast exam that one boob was just more sense than the other. I'm assuming I'm destined for a life of my left being better.
Re: Can we talk nipples for a hot second?
