DD grunts and squeaks all the time. We call her our little gremlin. I read in an article that newborns have up to 30 REM cycles while sleeping for a few hours. So every time they make Those noises, they are starting a new cycle. As they get older it should decrease as their REM cycles are less frequent. Also they are still getting used to using their nasal passages in the outside world. Whenever DD seems a little more grunt like than normal, I break out the nose Frieda. That thing sucks out boogers like you wouldn't believe. Love that thing!

@kcolly32 yes G grunts all the time! And he has poop in almost every diaper we change.

@Allisun85 we have a RnP and also I started putting gas relief drops in his bottles. He is such a gassy little boy but the gas drops have seemed to help!

@kcolly32 our LO grunts quite a bit. He's pretty gassy so I think that's what causes it. Our Doctor also said it's nothing to worry about and to try gas drops to make him a bit more comfortable. I'm not sure how well they're working, but we're giving it a shot!

We don't do anything really for baby's nose. Is this something that we should invest in/should be doing??

Both DH & I aren't feeling too well. I may have a cold and am afraid I'll give it to DD. Anyone experienced this before with an 8 weeker? I'm so paranoid tonight - her regular sneezes don't sound "regular," and her breathing sounds pretty fast. No fever though!

@alikay Levi got a cold at 3.5 weeks. It mostly went to his eye, but he sounded a little congested, though he could still breathe ok. He was better after 2 days, only 1 day of real yuckiness. But I'm afraid of what winter will bring, especially with 2 school age kids at home.

DD seems to get lots of nasal congestion, so we have been using the bulb syringe or nose Frieda. She hates both. We also have saline nose drops, but have yet to use them. I'm not sure if we are supposed to be sucking out snot, but she breaths so much better after sometimes.

I call A my little grunty baby. She grunts with gas and then grunts for no reason. I haven't been concerned about it.

And yes to the NoseFreida! I haven't used it yet on A, but always with my 3 yo.

Last night was J's first night in the crib. He was sleeping in his RnP with a blanket, but now he's sleeping in his crib swaddled. He did surprisingly well! I thought he would wake up way more but he woke up about the same. We fed him at 10:00, he went down at 11:00, woke up at 1:00, again at 5:00, and again at 9:00!!

Has anyone encountered gerd issues? Little bit will projectile vomit and then also choke in his sleep so it makes mom not be able to sleep very well. I was trying to figure out if we needed to change formula or not but waiting on the doctor. Sigh.

@sbelle474 we went to the doctor about that last week. LO was projectile spitting up at least once a day and the doctor prescribed us Zantac. We haven't given him any because I don't want to have to medicate him so young. We just started paying attention to exactly how much he's eating and a few different tricks. He's only spit up 2 times in the past week. The doctor said he didn't want to try switching formula just yet because that can do more harm than good by switching his formula over and over to see what agrees with him.

@Lynnlove28 what types of tricks? We go to the doctor this afternoon. We have already started burping every half ounce and holding him upright about 20 to30 minutes. Any tips you have are appreciated! It is just scary at night because he had choked in the past on his spit up.

We do the sitting upright and burping more often. We switched to playtex ventair bottles which seem to do really good! And we also try really watch what he eats and make sure he's not eating when he really just wants to suck.

@MrsEWilson we didn't transition DD to her crib until she was about 6 months old. We will probably try to transition LO a little earlier but not much.

@MrsEWilson I put LO in his crib for naps whenever I can to get him used to sleeping in it. I would start there.

Thats how I have done it. That way if LO struggles with it you aren't up and down at night. You're adjusting during the day while you're up anyway. DS is 6 weeks and we are going to begin putting him in his crib at bed time. Even if it's just at the designated "bed time" that we use for DD it's a routine and will help get him adjusted. And if I need to put him in the bassinet after he wakes up that's ok - just start a transition like @Stephanie7693 said.

@Lynnlove28 and @Sbelle474 We have definitely had some GERD issues pretty badly. Practically throwing fits after eating and arching the back really hard.

I'm going to call our Pediatrician tomorrow, so @sbelle474 maybe we can share tips once we both get some more!

I'm holding him upright after every feeding for 30 minutes. It seems to be the worst when he is in his car seat or the swing, we think because he gets a little squished up in there. I hate seeing him in so much distress!

I really like the Dr brown bottles. There are absolutely no bubbles, and lo hasn't gotten too confused going from bottle to breast. I've noticeD he struggles more with that when I use the medela bottles (if your still nursing too)

@Stephanie7693 we are formula fed. I wasn't able to breastfeed. I had a breast reduction that prevented it. Thankfully I knew it was a possibility and accepted it long before having DS.

the only negative thing I've heard about the dr brown is all the parts.

Edited: my grammar just sucks in general lol

@entropicallyfavored sorry to hear you have issues too! We went to the doctor today. She prescribed zantac but we are also going for an ultrasound tomorrow to rule out any issues with his anatomy. She mentioned pyloric stenosis, i had to look that one up. She didn't think that was the reason but wanted to be sure.
Other than that, burp every half ounce, and hold him up right for 20-30 minutes after feeding. Makes for a long feeding time.

She did say zantac would work with a few days.

No need to explain, I just know a lot of mommies here are doing both. And yes, there are a lot of parts, but I don't think it's too bad. Broken down its 5 parts, all easy to clean.

What I love about the vent air bottles is they're designed to help prevent gas and colic. The bottom of the bottle screws off and it has a vent like system that filters the bubbles out of the milk. I don't think they're too expensive on the bottle spectrum. They sell them single and then a box of three so you could always buy one and then if you like them get more!

@sbelle474 our pediatrician also brought up the pyloric stenosis but he said he didn't think we were at a point to go for an ultrasound yet. He honestly probably thought I was crazy for bringing little one in because he went from 9lbs 5ozs to 10lbs even in a week. Let me know how the Zantac works, if it gets worse for G I may break down and give him some but he's actually done really well the past week.

@MrsEWilson we started putting DD in her crib at 2.5 weeks old. I slept in the room for the first week because I was anxious to only rely on the monitor. But for the past week she has slept in her crib by herself and she's doing great! Its also been nice having her in her room so I can rock her in the chair! I know it probably seems early, is she had reflux or other underlying issues I probably would still have her in our room with us.

DS started sleeping in his crib at 2 weeks. We waited till he was back at birth weight.

I had him take every nap in there during the day. That way I got use to using/relying on the monitor and he got use to being in there. Now we are at 6 weeks and he only sleeps in there at night. Unless he's gassy after a feeding. Then he will sleep in the pack n play in our room. The vibration helps his tummy.

I moved DD over to her crib around 7 weeks so she was used to it before I went back to work. DS will probably stay in our room longer since he'll be sharing a room with DD so we'll keep him in our room until he starts to sleep through the night.

@Lynnlove28 we start the zantac today so i will let you know how it goes. We are going for the ultrasound this mourning, but i think they were more trying to ensure that wasn't the problem. Crossing my fingers that isn't the case. Although his weight was not as robust as it needed to be. He eats like crazy! Lol.
Thank you also for your bottle suggestion!

@TCUFrog08 we use avent bottles too. A lot of folks recommended Dr. Browns, but i heard the same thing about many parts.

@sbelle474 DD1 had terrible reflux. We were feeding her all the time becaus she was spitting up everything. It took her a long time to really put on weight. Our pedi called her a happy spitter because she wasn't too bothered by it. On the other hand, I hated it because I was constantly covered in baby puke. She was on Zantac for about 9 mo. It took a couple weeks for us to notice a change. We took lots of breaks when feeding and tried to feed her as much upright as possible with lots of burping breaks. We also used a crib wedge. I think they have to be a bit older though before you can use that.

We started with Dr Browns bottles yesterday and I feel like there's already a difference. He been so much less "grunty" today, and burps much easier throughout his bottle. There are more parts, but totally worth it, if it means a less gassy baby!

DS will only take Dr. Brown bottles currently. So glad we found one that works.

Could it it be possible to get tendinitis or tennis elbow from holding my giant baby too much? My elbow/arm area is extremely achy and straightening it is getting more difficult in my dominant arm.

I bought a "smart connect" rock n play... Omg. Getting in and out of bed is painful because of the c section, and this not only automatically rocks, but has an app so I can control it from my phone. Without getting out of bed.
Plus the inclined bassinet base helps with gas...
I am thrilled with this... It was pretty expensive, but so worth it.

We bought the RnP that vibrates only, and now 7 weeks in, we finally put a D battery in there to run the vibration feature. First of all, who has D batteries in their house?! Not us. And second of all, why did we wait so long to buy D batteries??? The vibration knocks baby out! So worth it.

Ok I need help or advice on what formula ppl used with a gassy baby. My LO has had a gassy belly since three weeks old. I bottle and breast feed but now just formula since my supply never picked up. We were using enfamil then switch to Enfamil gentle ease hoping it would help with the gas. We've also been using gripe water and anti colic bottles but she still grunts and cries in her sleep or awake when trying to pass gas or have a BM, anyone have any suggestions? TIA!

@kcolly32 We use these, they seem to work. Our pediatrician reccomeded them. DS now recognizes the drops and sucks on the dropper... I think he figured out they help. The only thing I don't like is they have a little bit of sugar in the formula, and I was hoping not to expose him to sugar until at least one year... but I decided I value sleep more than that.
