Re: Petty Problem Saturday! 9/3/16

• I'm posting this at 4 am (my time) because I have super insomnia and heartburn. I'm so tired but I can't sleep. :'(

I had a gift certificate to go to the Cheesecake Factory and I was hoping to also exchange a concealer at Sephora since the restaurant is attached to a mall but this damn mall doesn't have a Sephora. HOW do you have a Louis Vuitton (which I love!) but not a Sephora?! Hello, get it together, mall.

• lol hi neighbor. my petty problem is that as I sit here freaking out about the storm coming and packing a bag just in case the pressure drop makes this baby decide to show up...I'm trying to think of what robe and outfit will look best for visitors.

pretty sure we are granted a pass for how we look after a human escapes our loins...

im also sad I didnt buy more steak the other day bc now the store will be busy as hell and I can't deal w that.
• I have to go grocery shopping and I don't feel like leaving my bed today and we have that damn storm coming for us so the grocery store will be mobbed. and I'm trying to figure out what meals to make this week. Ugh.

• My son's former nanny offered to do a free maternity shoot (to build her portfolio), but she wants to do it in our house and I don't want to clean.
• @nataliemaephotograpy nachos totally fix everything in my world. now bc of this and the Taco Bell thread yesterday that'll be my lunch.

• @nataliemaephotography I'm so jealous you get to go to a football game. We had to cancel our plans for a middle of the season game for obvious reasons. I hope you have fun and enjoy those nachos!!

I slept like crap and we have a bunch of people coming over to watch games all day. I just wanna nap.

@jennielu thanks I try!! As awkward as it is I figure maybe they might not get to see a case of complete placenta previa during their rotation so might as well let them! It is becoming more common though! They also don't usually have the best bedside manner and seem very nervous! And that's hilarious about the diva cup! Did it hurt having it taken out??

@laurapcos thank you!
• @serenaxo84 So true, they really need all the practice they can get!!

Getting the Diva Cup removed was not that painful, but it was messy. And embarrassing. As a PSA, the Lunette cup is much easier to remove. :)
• @serenaxo84 I hope your stay isn't too rough and you get out bright and early on Tuesday.
• @serenaxo84 sorry to hear about your ordeal! Glad everything is okay... I agree that you have a really great attitude re extra eyeballs and hands being involved in your OB care! That can be very uncomfortable!

I also found myself in hospital this past Thursday for a STAT MRI. I had experienced an aura/migraine, which started with floaties in my left field of vision, then numb left lip, numb left finger & thumb-tips, confusion, nausea and headache. My OB noted all were sign of stroke (yikes!) an sent me to ER (my BP was okay). MRI showed severe sinusitis (unrelated to symptoms) and no sign of stroke, but doctor discussed 3 lesions <2mm each in my brain with me! He wants to do a repeat MRI in 6 months!! I'm pretty scared - anyone else ever have anything like this happen?

• @serenaxo84 Good luck and FX everything runs smoothly!

@Alikvasnok I had a similar experience in college. I kept passing out and they thought it was a brain tumor. MRI showed mild atrophy in an unrelated region and I was supposed to follow up, but it turned out I had a major case of mono that was causing my symptoms and once I got better I decided not to follow up because all symptoms were gone. It could be something I was born with or an injury from childhood my brain rewired to fix. Yours could easily be the same thing, but they just want to confirm. I have a degree in neuroscience and I can tell you no two brains look alike, so they need a before and after comparison to tell them anything. I wouldn't stress about it!

• @Alikvasnok holy cracker that's scary! But your doctors don't seem too worried, but want to do follow ups as precautions. Even though I have no experience, @books&icecream is a smart cookie so I'd listen to her.

• @Alikvasnok that sounds a lot like what happened to me earlier this week - aura followed by numbness staring in my thumb and spreading through my whole arm followed by confusion, dizziness and inability to find words. It's called a hemiplegic migraine and it is super scary, but I don't think it causes permanent damage. I don't think we can take anything for it while pregnant. I hope you don't have any more this pregnancy and that your doctor can find a medication that works post-pregnancy.

@ignoscemihi - so sorry you've experienced this as well! Its the first (and hopefully last) time its ever happened to me... Have you always had them? If so, how do you treat them outside of pregnancy?

Also - mine, occurred on a very hot, humid and sunny day, and I feel like it began after I sneezed several times... I thought perhaps I triggered it by sneezing and my not-so-little baby hit my vagal nerve or something...

• @ignoscemihi @alikvasnok @books&icecream @michi1382 thank you! Things are looking good now! Just wish I was home with DS, he was so sad when we left.

@alikvasnok I hope you're feeling better! That sounds extremely scary. Do you get migraines? My mother had a stroke when she was pregnant with my brother and sister, she ended up recovering well and while the babies came early, it wasn't due to the stroke.
• @serenaxo84 glad everything seems to be staying the same.

I wanted chinese for dinner, so we went to the buffet, but they had spring rolls instead of egg rolls. Super sad! :(
• @serenaxo84 and @Alikvasnok I'm sorry to hear about both of your troubles. I hope everything calms down and works out for the best.

I feel bad because my problem is actually a petty problem and especially looks like one in light of the medical issues surfacing, but this is the best place to put my issue. So here is my (legit) petty problem:

I finally received my dd's preschool packet (on her second day of school) and it shows that her very first field trip ever is on October 7th (eds is the 10th)! :'(

I'm so sad. The options as it stands are:
1. Not let her go
2. Let her go 'alone' with her class
3. Try to see if my mom can take her

I know it's already not fair of me to be upset since there are so many working mothers that would never have the option to begin with but as a SAHM, my dd is rarely ever not by my side. It wouldn't be so bad if my dh could take her, but they are going a solid hour in the opposite direction from where I'm supposed to deliver (so my dh would be 2 hours away from hospital). I feel bad because I don't have an option but for him it would be like having to choose between our two daughters (because there would be a chance he's completely miss my delivery IF I would go into labor).

I think this hits me so hard because when I was in third grade my mom couldn't come to my class field trip to Essex's and I was devastated. She was on her honeymoon. A completely legitimate reason but it didn't matter to 8 year old me. She sent my aunt (her sister) in her place but it didn't matter. I was still miserable. Now there is a big difference between a 3 year olds memory and an 8 year olds so it's likely my dd would never remember but it still reminds me of that situation.

I had migraines probably once every six months since I was a teenager, but I had never had a hemiplegic migraine until after I had my first child. I've had probably eight migraines in the last two years (most of them during this pregnancy) and only two were hemiplegic. When I'm not pregnant, I take Imitrex for migraines, but it honestly doesn't do a whole lot for me. The only thing that helps is lying down as soon as I get the aura and staying in bed for at least an hour. If I wait more than 30 minutes to lie down, I'm in for a world of pain. I haven't talked to my doctor about the hemiplegic migraines yet because I only had one while not pregnant, but I think different medications are used to treat those, like an anticonvulsant or a calcium channel blocker. I don't think they're very common, so I'm not sure there's an agreement on what medicines best treat it. This site may or may not be helpful: https://americanmigrainefoundation.org/living-with-migraines/types-of-headachemigraine/hemiplegic-migraine/

• @maf9866 if it makes you feel better, I went to every single class field trip alone since my parents never could go, and it was great! I felt awesome being alone somewhere new. Hopefully your DD may feel like that after a few trips?

@maf9866 I feel you mama! My LOs preschool orientation is Tuesday and I am most likely going to miss it. I pretty much ugly cried when my OB told me I was going to be admitted until Monday/Tuesday. It's tough and right now I have to choose my pregnancy over LO which is a hard pill to swallow.

mama guilt is tough and real and it sucks. But I think if you really don't want your DD to go alone, ask your mom- both your DD and mother will be thrilled to spend the time together. But I really think DD will be okay if no one goes and she just goes with her class. It's good for independence!

Also I feel a lot of guilt about being a working mom because I hated that my mom worked when I was 7-8 and my mom also had just had twins. It's a hard transition and that age 7-8 is a hard age. I agree with you that she is 3 and she won't remember but if she does it will be happy memories with your mom!
• @serenaxo84 keeping my legs crossed for you!

About the brain stuff, basically we all probably have lesions that we don't know about until we get a scan. It's good to have a baseline or at least a scan that they can compare things to later if something ever did happen or if you were having a new problem. Sounds scary but there's so much that goes on that we are never aware of (and never need to be) that I won't give examples. I just hope you feel better @Alikvasnok!

I laughed when I saw the meme for this thread bc that's basically my petty problem.
• @jennielu pre-pregnancy I used a diva cup and I am really curious/confused how yours got stuck?

• @kmolleltz Well it was kind of weird, considering I had been using the DC for a few years without incident. I suspect that I tried to put it in too fast (can sometimes be super slippery on the first few days) and it got in there sideways.

I waited many hours, then l tried all the tricks on the website about repositioning it, which had actually worked for me one time before, but eventually had to accept that it was out of reach.
• @jennielu thats crazy and kind of terrifying! hahah

• I used the Diva Cup once during my last period before this pregnancy. I spent two hours that morning freaking out cause I couldn't figure out how to get it out. My husband was all set to come home and pull the damn thing out of me when he finally suggested I lube my fingers up. The thing popped right out.

When he got home, he went to look at the little thing that caused me so much anxiety and then he went to throw it away. I literally screamed out "Nooooooooo!" He couldn't believe I wanted to keep it. But I told him that once I figured out the trick to taking it out, there was no way I was going back to tampons for my heavy days.

• @kzryriver ahh! haha. That's intense too. I never had any problems with mine. I mean my first few cycles I had a little bit of trouble getting it in but never taking it out. I'm bummed a bit that I need to get a new one for after this baby (to size up) because I'm not sure when I will be able to!

• Haha @krzyriver I love that. The only thing I don't love about it is the leakage the first day or two. It's possible it just didn't fit correctly, we''ll see how things go after this uterus shrinks back to size...
• @ignoscemihi thank you for the insight and help!

• @kmolleltz Oh man, I'm glad you said something. I forgot that I'll probably need the bigger one after baby. That could have been messy! Lol.

@jennielu I had small bits of leakage too, I assume cause I'm still learning how to put it in. I might always wear thin panty liners with it. Lol. But my first few days are so heavy that I have to change the biggest size tampon they make every 30 minutes. I'll take the DC and a panty liner over that any day.

• @kmolleltz I literally bought a brand new divacup (I use a diff brand, luna or something) and then a week later found out I was pregnant. I already sterilized it to prepare for the upcoming AF so I doubt they will let me return it which is sad. There is no way it's going to be big enough now. This is a petty problem though for sure.
