Im on the lower end of normal bmi pre-pregnancy and worked out a ton.. I didn't start showing til 26-27 weeks. One morning I woke up and pop! There it was! Every body type shows differently and not showing doesn't mean a thing so don't worry.
Is it ok to sleep or lay on stomach as long as there's no bump? i took Pilates class with some back exercises (laying on stomach) and felt a bit weird. I'm not sure if it was a pulse or the baby, but I've got anterior placenta and haven't otherwise felt any movement. I started to worry it wasn't good for baby so just hung out in child's pose till it was over.
@sarag I've actually been wondering the same thing. At 22 weeks I'm still sleeping on my stomach (and trying to savor it every night because I know it will end at some point soon). It felt weird at first (I also have anterior placenta), but now I'm used to it. Everything I've googled says at some point it just won't be comfortable anymore, but nothing says anything about it not being safe. Let me know if you find out anything different!
@sarag@newyearsbaby5 I've heard the same thing about being on your stomach - that it will just become uncomfortable at some point. Personally I've been uncomfortable being fully on my stomach since early on, due to nausea and general digestive upset. My yoga instructors have just said to skip the stomach down poses during class if I'm uncomfortable for any reason, so I don't think it's a universal thing.
FWIW my babe started moving a lot during yoga the other day (or maybe he/she had hiccups?). I felt lots of little thumps in there during the 2nd half of class but I think all was fine
That said, I might be careful with those back exercises from now on since they are a form of backbends and could cause some strain to round ligaments and other stomach muscles. Probably worth asking the instructor about if you go to another class - I believe lots of modifications are recommended for Pilates once you're in the 2nd trimester.
Thanks guys! @newyearsbaby5 I've come across the same info about laying on your stomach till it's uncomfortable... But I just think if im not supposed to lay on my back, how is the stomach ok?! But I get the reasons for back wouldn't apply to front. I still feel like I'm going to squish baby. @KRB22 I'll ask my instructor again next time. I asked her around 14 weeks and her answer was basically as long as I'm comfortable. Maybe should do some of my own googling too.
@sarag that's essentially the same advice I've gotten from any instructor I've asked about modifications during pregnancy. I think the key is to listen to your body and be mindful about stretches, positioning etc.
I've gotten the same advice from my OB. I cant lay flat on my belly anymore to do core strengthening (feels uncomfortable), but I can definitely sleep mostly on my belly. I'm also starting to have to modify some yoga poses because they feel awkward. I do still lay on my back, tho.
Got my scan at 19w5d, baby was 285g, measured 3days behind the due date but not a big deal. I am at 21w4d, I weight about the same as before preg (I lost 2-3 lbs during the 1st trimester), now I am back to where I started. I have a very thick body shape and anterior placenta so I guess the baby is hiding somewhere behind my belly. I started to show a bit at 20w but people can't tell unless I wear very fit sized clothing. Other than that I am very happy with where I am at now. We are having a babymoon in about a month so I am hoping my belly progresses at a slower pace lol.
I saw my OB last week but he did not measure my belly yet and he was not concerned about my weight at all so. I was overweight when I became pregnant and all the research that I have read stated that I should not be gaining more than 15lbs. So...we will see lol
