I did purchase bladder control pads for first few days with both my other kids they obsorb more and made me feel more protected. I went from those to heavy for 3 days to medium and was just using smaller liners after that for the whole 6 weeks.
The uterus massage doesn't have to be brutal painful. Some nurses are just not as kind and gentle as others I've learned after having 2 babies. That's why I was really adamant with my second baby that they are to #1 warn me #2 warn me with enough time to get some morphine into me (c sections) #3 no students digging around #4 make it frigging quick

I am really disappointed about how crappy and vague the PP supply list provided by TB on the 32 weeks page is. I mean surely you guys can do better than THAT being a Pregnancy site for Jeebus sake...
I remember the massage while in Labor and delivery but then I had a baby to focus on so I don't remember "pain" associated with it, although I do remember being stitched up after the episiotomy so that may be where my memory goes back to.
OMG you guys, i went through every single page and every single comment on this thread and added everything onto my amazon private "postpartum" wishlist. I'm scared now. Like really scared. These massages you guys speak of, sweating in the middle of the night (soaking through sheets), pooping (or not pooping). I don't know how I'm gonna be prepared.
Sooo I read on a list somewhere that you should get the blue Dermoplast because the red one makes your ouchies more ouchie. I had the red one so I was going to get the blue one - but when I looked at it, it said it had menthol in it. Menthol is definitely burny. (The red one has benzylthonium chloride, which is an antiseptic, so for all I know that could sting, too.) Sooo any ladies with experience with either of these (or another mystery variety)?
@RainMira9e- I think maybe @NoraAurora specified earlier in the thread to get the blue based on experience. Could be wrong about who but I know someone specified that from experience
Somehow I didn't get this lovely ute massage with my first. Not complaining however. Is there a specific reason it must be done?
It's done to encourage your uterus muscles to contract and shrink back down. Like cramping does during a period, this causes all the blood and etc to come out and helps avoid the potential for a uterine hemmorhage (your uterus keeps bleeding in there instead of stopping like it should). So they do it with your health in mind, but it sounds pretty awful.
Here's my kit so far! Padsicles will be in the freezer, depends undies for.overnight in the bedroom and witch hazel in one of the bottles (extra undies and pads in there)

This is a great idea. I feel so far behind. I haven't bought anything for PP! Ahhhhh

you're not alone @ibabyloveb87 ... I need to get on this next weekend!
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
The hospital gives you the blue one. The red one is antiseptic, and not meant to be used for that area.
Did it not burn the crap out of you? I can't use chapstick with menthol because it's too burny. Maybe I'm just a freak.
No, it was lovely and I ran out and had to buy more.
It's worth noting that I have the most sensitive skin on the planet possibly, and it didn't cause me any problems whatsoever. Even my skin down there has been sensitive to soaps, laundry detergents, and certain panty fabric. So that's saying something.
For those fearing the massage, I did find this on the National Institute of Health's website: "... the WHO issued new recommendations which state that although
administration of a uterotonic remains central to the implementation of
AMTSL, the performance of CCT and immediate fundal massage are optional
components." Something worth discussing with your doctor, anyway. I had a c-section and I don't remember having a massage at all; I really feel like my doc did a bunch of that kind of stuff before he stitched me up; he also cleaned me out really well so I had almost no bleeding that I remember.

I don't know if this wound be better in the BFing thread but I just added these nipple shells to my list. They really helped me and I don't know where my old set is
I found pads today that are actually intended for after birth literally had a pregnant lady on them shocked me here I am scoping put the depends and bladder control and some genius created pads just for postpartum gushing.
@strickland8052 you don't remember all the negative once you have that baby in your arms, all the bleeding, the leaky boobs, the cramps, etc they all fade so fear not.
This is a random question but to everyone who said they bought a pack of cheap cotton underwear ... what kind did you get? I ended up overwhelmed with indecisiveness when I tried to pick a pack at Target yesterday. I definitely don't want to spend much money on something that's going to be ruined, but I also can't stand wearing uncomfortable underwear. I always wear the kind with a lace waistband because I hate when the waistband digs into your skin. I also have no idea what size to get. What brand/type did you buy?
@Blonde1817 I have the same question! I bought a pack of fruit of the loom cotton boy shorts thinking they'd give me more coverage but they ended up fitting so bizarrely! They were too short in the back, too tight in the legs but baggy and too big in the waistband and front. I ended up returning them. I'm debating trying the briefs they sell but they have such a high waistband it doesn't look comfortable.
I like the underwear from Sam's. I think they are ellen tracy brand. They are stretchy and the waist band is just thicker, but the same material as the rest of the underwear. I think they are high cut or briefs. Super comfy.
My favorite undies were my husbands boxer briefs, all black or Hanes has a pack of 3 that are cotton with a thicker waistband but cotton covered. Walmart also started carrying The perfect panty, and they stretch well with a small soft waistband.
I will prob get these from target. I got a similar pair when I had DS1, same brand but not cotton and no lace. And really liked them. Enough coverage for a pad and high enough to not irritate my c section scar. I was wearing a small in most underwear when I had DS1 but bought a size medium because pregnancy left me with some love handles and I wanted the extra room.
Since ive gained weight I'm not a fan of boy shorts. But I like a hipster style.
I always size up on my underwear for PP. by the time you have a huge pad in there it takes up some extra room so having a little bigger is nice. Also have some that are extremely high waisted, I'm talking the granny pantie of all granny panties in case of a c section. You don't want any waist band near your incision, and will have swelling and fluid retention from your IV so big panties are a must. I was allergic to the ones they provided in the hospital too.
