I would love to use a home daycare but the centre we will use is much more convenient due to location and operating hours. (And her aunt will be one of the workers in her room)
@lfrank12 I know you didn't ask me but I would check local childcare groups on Facebook, local general information town/or local mom groups for recommendations. (Even asking around at local mom and tot library/gym playgroups)
Do you have any agencies like WeeWatch in your area? (A company who screens and select's caregivers who watch kids in their own home but following the agency's rules and have surprise home visits throughout the year. You pay the agency and they agency pays the caregiver-still less than a centre)
Count me in for "daycare costs more than my mortgage and I am going to work for free". If I think about it too much, it sends me into a panic spiral. My fiancé keeps suggesting that I do my own in-home "daycare". Here in NH you don't have to have a license for less than 6 kids you watch, I don't know if its like that for every state. I totally would do that if we can move into a bigger house soon (that's the plan anyway - within the year). I've worked with kids my entire like and the demand in my area is pretty high...

my friend did this! She just did the kids of her friends from the high school she taught at, she called it teacher daycare. this woman has a masters and two kids-- I want THAT daycare! someone I know I can trust who has a safe home and is taking care of a small # of kids. how do you find that??
I have two kids in daycare until the end of the month when my son goes to kindergarten. I take home about $500 but my kids LOVE their school! I was really looking forward to cutting it in half, but suprise! Now I'll be paying for two again after maternity leave and the month that my husband is taking off. I'll enjoy the financial break while I can...
I wouldn't use Craigslist - too many weirdos. Do some Googling, though. My state and county both have searchable lists of licensed providers and I've found several in DS's elementary school district (idea being H can drop both kids off there early and DS can catch the bus an hour later or whatev). Next step is to start making phone calls, asking Qs (rate and availability being at the top of my list) and scheduling visits to see who might be a good fit. It's a huge PITA.
I believe you'll only find individuals on there - ie someone to come to your house. That'll be way more expensive, but certainly a resource if that's what you're looking for.
A friend of mine has an au pair. They have three kids so it's actually more affordable than many other options. BUT, she lives with them. Big trade off IMO
We just made a daycare reservation today at a place by our house because they only had one spot left for when we would need to start...it will cost us $1200 a month. Definitely going to try reaching out to people around here in case we can find an in-home that is more affordable for us, so thanks for your tips @Xstatic3333 and @blush64!
I'm actually looking to leave my current employment (unless they accept my extreme P/T proposal) as daycare for 2 would cost most of my paycheck. I will still work but it will be PT... DH just doesn't have enough work flexibility so all kid crisis (sick/dr ect) fall to me generally. I'm struggling the juggling act with one - I can't imagine balancing 2 and 40 hours a week for 1/5 of my paycheck to come home...

In my area you can find both on Care.com. we found several sitters there over the years.

My mom just went back for her surgery. If you're still following this story, please send up some good vibes or prayers for her. I know she was really nervous this morning.
@fourPsinapod Thinking good thoughts for surgery and recovery!
The Lily Jade diaper bag I ordered came yesterday and it's so freaking pretty! I haven't carried a diaper bag in probably a year or more, but since this one doesn't look like a diaper bag I've already switched over to it from my purse and I love it! This morning DD said she wished she could have one for all her American Girl Doll stuff. lol
@Gretchypoo I know right! I actually had "teacher daycare" lined up through my friend's mom who watches all of my old high school's teacher's kids - but I guess 2 are trying for their second and she is holding their spots so now I'm panicking. I would totally open one myself if I had a bigger house! I feel like everyone is looking for in-home daycares. And I wouldn't charge and arm an a leg haha
@MommaBean If you use the search tool you can choose "child care centers" and you can search my region! It brings up their "profile" on Care which sometimes gives a cost estimate. But most places have links to their websites on there too
Has anyone tasted their own breast milk?? What's it taste like? Haha I don't know why I just randomly thought of this. I'm being reminded now of that one episode in Friends where Ross drinks Rachel's breast milk.

I have and it's not bad at all. It tastes like very sweet watery cow's milk (I've only ever drank cow's milk so I have nothing else to compare it to).

Yep- this exactly. I've tried almond, coconut, and soy milk and the best comparison is super watered down cow's milk. Like start with fat free milk and water it down.
I have a little bit of an issue with Lipase in my milk so once it's frozen it changes. Neither kid seemed to mind but I thought it tasted gross after it was frozen.

@Gingersnap I started watching the show about a week ago. I'm only 3 episodes in but holy train wreck!
I don't know who brought up bagels the other day but now I have a serious craving for one.
