I have my PP APPT at 4.5 weeks...I figure I'll start with the body weight workouts I was down to at the end of pregnancy, and build back up the the heavy lifting I was doing during first trimester & prior to being pregnant. Also 30 min of HIIT on the elliptical. We have an elliptical and weights in our garage, so it will be nice to be able to fit workouts in at home at first and then get my alone time in at the gym in a couple months. I love some of the group x classes at the gym!! But for now just walking. I'm 2.5 weeks PP and no bleeding yesterday or today so far...so maybe start some body weight squats at three weeks if this continues because I feel up to it
I've been trying to just walk more each day. I have a half marathon planned in January and several 5Ks before it. I use my Fitbit daily again. After a week I try and increase my goals of stepping and how many miles a day. It's helped slowly help me get back into moving. I was on 4 weeks of strict bedrest. It really took a toll on my physical capacity.
Can we do body weight stuff now?! (I am 4 weeks pp). Id love to do squats and lunges!
34 Mother of 4 year old and 2 Labs. Happily Married to my Hubs of 6 years.
DH and I have decided to go ahead and start watching what we eat again, cut sweets out, I don't want to full force diet yet because I don't want that to interfere with healing. I have my 2 week incision check on Thursday so I'm gonna see if it's okay to start taking walks in the evening. I've got a great head start so my main concern is I don't want to start gaining. I was pretty badly overweight when I got pregnant with LO so I'm already feeling pretty good about the progress, not a humble brag at all because I can afford to lose it and then some.
I'm eating better now than I did while I was pregnant and even before. I'm hoping by adjusting my diet, I won't have to put much effort into working off the lbs. I used to run a lot, but not sure when I would be able to do that since my midwife said it could be 12 weeks before I am cleared for activity. So I'm just hoping an adjusted diet and breastfeeding will help.

@AliKay20 I second that!!! I've tried adding a serving of oatmeal w chia n flax daily, but other than that I'm out of ideas. As for exercise my OB told me atleast 8 wks. So I've still got 5.5 to go We went for a walk yesterday. It was so nice just being outside. Hoping to repeat today but we'll see. Had to drive 45 min to get out of the heat.
I haven't started exercising yet but I desperately want to. I'm down 25lbs and have 15 more to go. I'm going to start walking as of today, since it's finally cooled down where I live, and eventually start running and maybe working out to help tone. I hit 2 weeks PP yesterday and the weight loss has come to a halt sadly so time to start doing something. Excited about this thread!
I'm just a few days PP but I miss exercise so much. I'm hoping to start family walks at night tonight and then early morning walks tomorrow. I'm in Texas so beating the heat is priority.
Also thinking about doing some light arm weights (5 lbs or so) while sitting on my exercise ball for a few minutes every day to try and keep some tone in my arms.
Diet has been bad thus far but it has only been 4 days so I will start to clean that up next week. Surviving right now!
I can't wait to get back to the gym and do hot yoga. My NP said no to that during pregnancy. So I'll have to ease back into it. I plan to start some of the basic positions this week at home. I'm still bleeding just a little, so walking is all I've been doing for the last 3 weeks (4 weeks pp). I only need to lose 3 more pounds to be at my pp weight, but I want to lose the extra 10 I gained in the year before I got pregnant. Eating is getting tough though. I cut dairy from my diet to see if it helps baby's tummy, so I don't know what to eat anymore
Breastfeeding has caused me to lose weight really quickly, which is weird since I have hypothyroidism, but my doctor isn't worried currently. So I'm well below my pp weight at 3 weeks pp- but I also was way overweight when I got pregnant so I can still afford a good amount of weight loss. And losing the weight has left me feeling flabby all over and like a totally different person (good and bad). I can't wait to start doing kettle bell workouts again and weightlifting as all I've done the whole pregnancy and pp is walk. I really just hope my weight loss doesn't start reversing before I can start working out as that is a possibility with my thyroid issue
I lift weights and do interval cardio, and my doctor said not to do any of that until 6 weeks PP. He cleared me for walking, but it's been so hot and I've been so tired that I'm unmotivated to start! My diet also hasn't been great but I'm afraid that if I drop calories my supply will decrease.. So I'll have to figure that out. I'm not too worried about weight loss but I've lost a ton of muscle that I'd like to get back. I plan to do some core breathing exercises as I think I may have a small DR, and my core muscles are shot!
Currently 4 days PP and definitely missing exercise. Today I have been in the most pain since delivery. Seems strange. I plan to start walking my 5 year old to school since we live nearby and possible do some evening walks. I've got a good jogging stroller and live near the walking trail in our subdivision. I'd like to start jogging as soon as I feel comfortable. Doc said wait 6 weeks (I tore during delivery) but I have an appt with her in 4 weeks so we will see what she says.
Once I'm cleared I'll be getting back to CrossFit. I did it my entire pregnancy but took it easy on the weights and high intensity stuff. I can't wait to get my strength back that I've lost over the last 9 months. I also gained 40 lbs while pregnant. Eating has been better now that I'm not pregnant but still not really watching everything. Breast feeding definitely makes me hungry.
Hopefully this thread will inspire me, because I haven't been eating very well since the delivery. I'm so hungry all of the time, which sometimes (read: all of the time, after every nursing session I act like a ravenous wild animal) leads me to snack on not-so-healthy snacks.
I've always been a big swimmer for fitness (not to mention how crazy hot it is here right now). I'm looking forward to my 5 week pp appointment this week to find out when I can swim again.
Like @BrunetteBabe722, the weight loss has stalled out for me and I have about 18 pounds left to go. I've never really dieted or lost lots of weight before so I have no idea how this will go.
I was so tempted to buy a 10 class pass to Soul Cycle but DH, being the rational one, said I need to ease into working out before purchasing anything that pricey.
He's right. I can barely walk without feeling sore on my heels after we go on walks around our neighborhood. Thinking of my nana down there and sitting on a bike may not be the best right now.
I am going to start light jogging in the AM right after I pump and lift light weights.
Also, I am definitely not over eating but I wonder why my weight is still the same after I lost my initial 20 lbs within 2 wks PP.
I heard for some women, breastfeeding actually does the opposite and shed the lbs after they stop breastfeeding (contributed to hormones). Idk, I'm going to see if my light exercise routine does anything in the near future.
@AliKay20 I haven't lost anything since 2 weeks pp either. I don't have much more to lose to hit my pp weight, but I want to lose more than that. I have been eating less and walking more and still haven't lost another pound yet. But it's very possible bf will make losing weight really hard. I read that recently too. And in the last week or so I've noticed I don't eat as much as I was the first few weeks, and now that I'm cutting out dairy I have a hard time finding something decent to eat when I am actually hungry. I think I need to go shopping tomorrow and get creative
I am chomping at the bit to be cleared for exercise at my 6 week appointment. I stopped working out way earlier in pregnancy than I should have (I blamed it on being pregnant with twins, but I could have gone longer), so I'm feeling pretty blah about myself. If for nothing else, I'm looking forward to working out to get those endorphins going.
I walked & jogged around the neighborhood with my Westie (not a jogging type of dog by any means), came home and did some planks and light weights. All this took about 45 mins. Not too shabby for starting out.
I'm like most of the previous posters and have stalled out with weight loss despite eating better and walking more at 3.5 weeks. I still have 15 pounds until I'm at my prepregnancy weight but I'd like to lose 20 pounds.
After being on modified bedrest since June, I have finally started reaching 5k steps again each day. And I usually hit it mid afternoon. Once I get cleared for more exercise I'll up my step goal back to 10k and I'm doing to start a couch to 5k program to get my stamina back up. Thankfully we have a treadmill and DS1 will be in school 4 days a week so I can put A in the bassinet to nap and keep the monitor on him while I'm in the basement. I've missed working out.
Also, depending on how my supply is affected, I may do some BeachBody workouts from the DVD that came with my 21 Day Fix kit. When I stuck to those, I actually had ab muscles. I feel like I need those to get my belly fully back to where it was. I'm fitting into my "fat pants" again at 3 weeks postpartum so hopefully soon ill get back into my regular clothing.
the weight has come off relatively easily but I am still 15 lbs above prepregnancy weight.
Yesterday I finally got out of the house to get some groceries At 5 days PP. spent a good hour walking around the store and felt really good just to move and to not be confined to my home. If it would cool off outside I'd like to start some walks with baby this week. I haven't weighed yet since baby but plan to today. It's hard to get used to the post partum belly.
12 days PP started walking yesterday. Goal is to walk at least three times this week for 30 minutes and do light conditioning. Walking is really no big deal, but I feel like I have a ways to go healing wise before I can run. I was hoping to do light jogging by four weeks PP, but I doubt that will happen.
I am still losing fluid. I have no idea exactly how much weight I need to lose until all of that comes off. I have a ways to go before fitting into anything prepregnancy. I'll get there though.
@shawnalynn83 I'm 5 days pp too. I weighed today to get a baseline for everything. I know I'm still losing fluids through night sweats and bleeding but I've also got new watermelon boobs that weigh a ton. I was happy with what I lost but the rest is probably going to take some work. Hoping to get to the store today so I can walk around in AC.
I'm 3 weeks pp and just started walking over the weekend. I've been doing some upper body exercises too - modified push-ups, tricep dips, etc, And of course, working on my kegels to rebuild my pelvic floor! I'm waiting until my 6 week OB follow up before I really start working out, but I'm looking forward to getting back to it. Like others have said, I lost a lot of muscle while I was pregnant and I'm ready to hit the weights again. I know it'll also help fend off the PPD and help with my mental state.
I decided today that in terms of post-partum fitness, August is a really good time to have a baby.
You get to be all cute and fully pregnant in the summer (I thought that I would be self conscious of the bump at the beach in June/July but it was awesome). Then in the end of summer/beginning of Fall, you just had a baby and everyone says you look amazing even if you don't! Finally you get to roll into Fall and Winter sweater weather and not show skin again until late Spring, at which point we will have had close to 9 months to get back into shape!
By the time next summer rolls around, we'll have had the maximum amount of time to physically recover and get our bodies back. I like having lots of time... takes the pressure off!
The weather has been so beautiful here the last couple of days, so I forced myself to go to the beach to take a walk. It was so wonderful to get outside and get some fresh air. It definitely helped my mental state and made me so excited to start running again. I'm 2.5 weeks PP and it didn't increase my bleeding at all, so I'm thinking I'll be able to start doing more in the next couple of weeks. I'll wait to start running until I'm cleared at 6 weeks, but I'm planning on starting a routine with weights and longer walks next week.
I've lost most of my pregnancy weight, but I know these last 8lbs will be hard to take off (took me almost a year and a half with DS1 to finally get rid of them). Honestly, I'm not even really concerned about getting back to my PP weight, I just want to get to wear all my clothes again!

This!!! I go back to work in 6 wks and don't want to get a whole new wardrobe just to fit my widened hips. Ahhhhh

Having to spend a ton on a new wardrobe is something I'm really concerned about. Since this is baby 2, I'm worried it will take even longer to lose the pounds and my hips may just stay this way,

I just went and bought two new pairs of pants yesterday. It's finally not sweltering out here and I'm too afraid to even attempt to put on my normal PP pants. I'm just hoping that by the time I go back to work, my hip bones will have started to go back to normal. If not, I'll be showing up in leggings and tunics, because I can't afford a whole new wardrobe.

Not sure if any of you remember but last week or so I mentioned I weighed early morning, took a nap, and weighed again after my nap and found I had lost 3 lbs since that morning weigh in. I didn't know what I did except nap.
Well, it happened again just now. The weight fluctuation isn't from body fat...because how can it change that frequently?
I think there's still a good amount of fluid in my body. I look at my feet - though smaller than before, still swollen. Same for legs. And the level of swelling changes throughout the day - much like my pregnancy. Now the question is, how to control this?! I'll drink a lot more water and see if it helps.
It must be the fluids @AliKay20. I weighed today and need to lose 9 more to be pp weight, but I also did measurements to see how much I've widened and that is where I'm in trouble.
I an trying out this thing called Shrink Hips to see if it helps me lose the extra two inches there. It is just a band you wrap around your hips that should help stabilize them and hopefully shrink them with all the relaxin in our bodies. Fingers crossed it helps!
In case some of you are also wondering but after doing some research, I think I may be one of those that my body is just holding onto the weight while breastfeeding.
"...I’ve also had to come to terms with the fact that for me, breastfeeding means hanging onto a little extra weight and being patient with my weight loss journey."

I agree, I would bet it's fluid @AliKay20, especially if you still have some swelling. I doubt it's anything to worry about, though. My weight can have pretty big fluctuations throughout the day.
@LWC1112 let me know how it goes, I would definitely want to try something like that.
I weighed myself thus morning after my shower, wearing a shirt and dripping wet hair... and I'm at my pp weight! I did give up dairy this week, so I have a feeling that's where it went. I even am able to put on a pair of shorts from last year and button them without looking like a can of biscuits about to explode! My tummy is still flabby looking, but about the same as it used to be pp. Can't wait for the flabby look to go away, and to really start working out. If I'm careful, I could be in better shape than before this baby! I thought for sure this was going to be so much harder being baby 3 and now being 30. But we'll see how it goes. The weight could come back.

First off, that is amazing. Secondly, I LOL'ed at the thought of your description. It is so on point.

Yes!! I didn't realize how much my hips widened until I went to put some of my old pants on and they stopped mid-thigh
Thanks @AliKay20. I spent my pregnancy being really careful about my weight thinking it was going to be awful pp. I guess it helped not gaining as much as I did the first 2 kids! That description is exactly what I looked like a week and half ago trying on other pre pregnancy shorts. It was so scary I won't try them on again until next year! Lol
And ladies, your hips may never go back. Mine did after kid 1, but after kid 2 they did not. As a result I was a size bigger after kid 2 even though I was the same weight

Don't tell me that
Hopefully since this is kid 1 for me, they'll go back.

Lalalala I can't hear you!!!!
i ended up about 10lbs lighter than my usual pp weight about a year after DS1 was born. I'd really like to stick to that as my "normal" weight.

Oh my goodness no! There's no way that I can afford a new wardrobe of pants and skirts (I'm the only one working while DH finishes Law School).
Guess I'll be getting knocked up again soon and then by the time that baby comes, DH husband will have a job and I can buy some pants!
(I feel like I shouldn't even joke about that, please Lord don't let me get pregnant again for a while, I was just kidding...)

Once I'm cleared I'll be getting back to CrossFit. I did it my entire pregnancy but took it easy on the weights and high intensity stuff.
