+1 for video monitor. We got a Samsung security camera because it's cheaper. It's wifi enabled, reads temp, saves videos and pictures, and plays music. We also have drop cams for other rooms.
This is truly random but I spilled pepper while cooking and forgot about it since I didn't inhale any or anything. I guess I had some on my hand, though, because when I wiped my nose, it started burning. I washed it with soap and water but that didn't help... so I rubbed some Greek yogurt on it. Yep, all better now!
We got a security camera thing. I don't know what all it does - it was the one job I gave my husband (other than "which color of this model of car seat do you like") and he picked it out and bought it and everything. Not set up yet, though.
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think the drama was that big of a deal. I also only read a page or two sooo...
I got bored pretty quick. I guess they went on to talk about bjs, but I didn't get that far. Lol. It was typical bump drama. So glad we don't have that here
I thought the drama was pretty petty, almost like they were trying to keep something going in that thread. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't whole threads dedicated to pumpkin spice items on other boards.
Also, regarding wifi monitors, don't get too freaked out about them, but make sure you don't use the default wifi network password. I don't know about it as much as my DH does in regards to setting up networks, but I know not to use the default or easy password. That's one of the main ways they get hacked.
It was petty. I loved my last BMB but it reminds me of them because there were definitely a couple of women who just wanted some kind of witch hunt no matter what it was over.
Also I commented on one of their posts about choosing new floors and they TOTALLY SNUBBED ME. lol. I have logged a LOT of HGTV time, people. You *need* me.
I wasn't impressed with that "drama". My heart was hoping for something along the lines of catfish, but all I got was bored, angsty, junior high girl. Same ol' BS.
Maybe something juicy will happen somewhere before we all go into labor!
@MRSCORKER I got my shot exactly a week ago (last Thursday) and my arm is still sore! Definitely getting better, but when I move the wrong way it's awful.
I didn't think about it when I got it, but I got it in my left arm... and laying on my left side to sleep is the best. So it was a rough couple of days at the beginning of waking up uncomfortable.
Hope yours feels better soon!
(Is anyone getting their SO, parents, etc. the TDAP? I didn't think anything of it, but my OB said to make sure grandparents get a booster because she recently had a patient whose mom got whooping cough and gave it to the baby... I'm kind of in the "eh, I'm sure it'll be fine" line of thinking right now, but wondered what other OBs have said.)
@bamacoop My OB told us that we could ask close family to get the booster but in reality, the reason they want us moms to get it while we're pregnant is to pass it on to the baby to protect it from those who may have not gotten the booster. Unfortunately, you don't know what vaccines and boosters everyone has or hasn't had that is going to come in contact with your baby.
@bamacoop My doctor said if the grandparents had had the shot in the past 10 years they're good. Their doctors all told them the same thing. DH still needs to call his doctor and get his though because we don't think he's had it since before going to college.

My OB said to have all the grandparents get it. That the cases are worse that they have seen in years. The pedi also said to have them get it when we did our interview.
@bamacoop my OB said the same thing. They recommend all caretakers and anyone who will be around the baby a lot to make sure they're up to date on their TDAP. DH got his and I reminded our parents and siblings to make sure they're up to date.
I had a lump in my arm for a week after the tdap we asked our good friend to get one because he is over at our house quite often for dinner and hanging out. But we also are trying to trick him to go to the doctor so he can keep up on his blood pressure regimen.
My mom's doctor told her to get updated in her vaccinations for the baby and also because "those Californians don't believe in vaccinations. You can never be too safe." That's what east coasters think of us!
Thanks y'all! I told my mom about it, so she's going to see what she can do.
I just thought it was strange, because I have a friend who used the same OB and just had her baby in July and I don't think the OB mentioned this to her. So I was trying to figure out if this was a real issue or just a suggestion.
I also asked grandparents to get it. It's super easy for them to do and protects the baby a little more as we enter cold season. My line of thinking is why not get it?
My parents got the shot, as well as DH (obviously) with my first pregnancy. They're all good to go for 8+ more years now.
I'm DREADING getting my shot next week. I have a slight Tetanus allergy (but not severe enough to warrant not getting the shot). Every time I get it, my arms turns bright red and swells around the area where I was stuck for days, and I also get flu-like symptoms. Yay....
Plus, that soreness is the pits. There goes my workouts for the week!
My husband already told his parents about getting the Tdap and they sort of acted like we were crazy. Ugh. They both get sick so often though. I still have to get mine but planning on it soon!
My parents are on board for getting the shot. DH's parents think it's "silly" and that we're paranoid. His mom told him the baby's going to be exposed to all kinds of things, so we "might as well get used to that."
Considering that my SIL was recently talking about how cancer drugs are a conspiracy by the medical establishment to make money and that cancer should be treated with mistletoe, I'm pretty confident my in-laws won't be willing to get any vaccines BUT they live 8 hours away so they won't be seeing the baby much.
I did not know that other people were supposed to get it to. No one told me that when they gave me the shot yesterday. My husband and parents will take it, no problem. But what about my son? He's 16 years old.... does he need to get it or is this a vaccine for adults only? Is there a kids version?
@krzyriver... Obviously not a medical professional but I'd think if he'd be okay to get it when he's 18, he'd be okay now, at 16. I'd definitely ask your doctor about it. My thought is, yes, have him get it.
@bnsmith85 Yeah, I need to schedule an appt before school starts anyway, so I'll ask. Thanks.
Man, this just made me realize I don't even have his vaccination records. Ugh, switching custody this late in his life is such a pain!! Lol. Guess I should call his mom and talk to her.
I officially feel old. I bought cereal today that looked delicious (it was a captain berry crunch knockoff) - holy cracker was it sweet! Kinda wish I just bought raisin bran lol
@MRSCORKER and others, agreed that the TDAP vaccine is a total bitch! My arm hurt for days afterward.
ILs got theirs when their first grandson was born 4 years ago and DH got one last year for potential tetanus exposure, so it's a non-issue for them. My parents are way OOT and won't be around the baby enough for it to be worth the argument and/or behind-the-back gossip it would likely cause.

Seeing my new doctor/OB next week...we had to switch insurance so late in the game due to DH's work. UGH. I have to remember to ask her about the TDAP.
I have a co-worker who calls in sick almost every week. Like I think every other week, he calls in sick for a headache, a migraine, he fell and hurt his back, etc. He's like a 31 year old young guy. He called in sick again today for a headache.
This morning I was so tempted to call in sick because my back has been killing me---but I have a meeting at 11 I can't miss, so I didn't. But since our presenter (the above mentioned guy who called in sick) doing the technical demo is not here, I have to effing reschedule the meeting. It just made me think about how if men got pregnant and had babies, they'd probably have maternity leave starting at 5 months pregnant, and then not have to go back to work till after the baby is a year old.
Idk if this should be an UO (I haven't seen a thread for that yet today) but on the subject of vaccines: I have a cousin who doesn't vaccinate any of her kids and is also weirdly obsessed with cancer. She doesn't have it as far as I know, but she posts on Facebook contantly about how you can cure cancer with coconut oil or other essential oils or by cutting out processed sugar. She also posts constantly about how horrible vaccines are.
Now, I still follow her on Facebook because I like to see what all kinds of crazy things she posts. So usually she'll post something and I'll just roll my eyes. But yesterday she posted this article by some random lady about how if you are a Christian you shouldn't vaccinate your kids because God is against vaccines.
???????
Now, I guess my UO would be: I honestly don't care if someone doesn't vaccinate their kids. I don't think the government should force parenting decisions on anyone. So okay. Don't vaccinate your kids-that's your prerogative- and it's my prerogative not to let my kid hang out with yours, or for day cares or schools not to accept your child, etc. So. Okay. Fine.
But to be so high and mighty about it and tell people who do choose to vaccinate that they are bad parents and bad Christians? Na uh.
I hardly ever read the articles she posts, but I skimmed this one. Basically the woman who wrote it said that God made our immune systems and that vaccines are like Christians saying the know better than God. Mmmmm. Okay? And that the statistics on how many people die of these treatable diseases are fabricated. Mmmmmmm. Okay? And that the Bible says we shouldn't vaccinate, and so if you do you go against the Bible. Mmmm....huh? I missed all those Bible verses saying "Thou shalt not vaccinate" but whatever, It was just ridiculous.
It just riled me up. I'm a Christian and I will vaccinate my children. I'm pretty sure God will be okay with me using my intellect and taking advantage of the progress of science to take care of the children He has put in my care.
Ugh. Sorry guys. This all started with the TDAP stuff because I asked my doctor when the baby can get it, and it's not until they are 2 months old, which is why they recommend people around the baby before then get it. So if Baby comes on my due date or later, then we'll have Thanksgiving and Christmas before we can get the shot. So basically I'm not letting my baby near my cousin or her kids at family gatherings, or I'll have to just not go to them.
It's Cranky Thursday here for me today I guess. Y'all. I need drink.
@bamacoop your cousin sounds like a real peach. If her kid broke his leg, would she let it heal on its own and forego a cast? Because that makes just as much sense.
Um, what?! I feel like maybe vaccination records aren't the only reason they maybe shouldn't be the primary caregivers...
Also, I believe the medical opinion on vaccines for caregivers is that they should be up to date (which really they should be anyway). This includes TDAP and MMR. So they only need to get it if it's been 10? years since the last time. The reason why it's especially important for caregivers is because babies have very weak immune systems and what may make an adult a little feverish could kill a baby.
@bamacoop Every time I see an argument like the one your cousin posted, I just think of that story about the guy who sat on his roof during a flood and refused a boat, plane, etc that was trying to rescue him because he said God would save him. And then when he drowned, he asked God why he didn't save him and God was all "I tried! I sent you a boat, a plane, etc!!"
I actually have used coconut oil in my hair and hear from legit sources (not just from healthymom.com or granolagirl.com or imbetterthanyoucauseimvegan.com or theworldisshitandieatonlywhatcomesoutofmyownbutthole.com) that it has some great health benefits, so I want to try and cook with it more.
See, this is the problem for me. I'm all for questioning things. Question your doc by getting a second or third opinion; question big Pharma and see if you can treat your whatever naturally; question the government; question everything! Sure, go ahead! But don't take 10 minutes to look up one documentary about one kid who had an adverse reaction to the MMR vaccine and then start a crusade against all vaccines ever for everyone for all time! Don't cure your acne with coconut oil and then assume that it's the end-all-be-all only acne medication that will ever work for anyone forever! Don't have one instance in which your doctor was wrong and then assume all doctors are stupid, moronic, evil buttwads who are only out to scalp your kids and make money from their bleeding brains!
Also apropos: I watched a Ted talk yesterday that was great about how people can be wrong but feel so strongly that they are right that they actually convince themselves they are right. That's my cousin in a nutshell right there.
