Let's talk pumping and BF?

Re: Let's talk pumping and BF?

  • @Kristalyn85 makes me cry to look at pics of DS all skinny and think of him starving too! So so sad.

  • @HJ.Morgan breastfeeding can burn 500 calories a day! :)
  • Just some breastfeeding love! I'm stoked to see so many FTMs excited to breastfeed. Breastfeeding is incredible and I can't wait to meet my new nursling.
  • I had to do the football hold with my 2nd baby to get her latched on right. My first was tongue tied and I dried up before we realized what was happening. So along with water and food, I found that trying different positions helped.
  • I know its been said before but I just wanted to remind everyone that breastfeeding doesn't always make the Momma lose weight--even if you're eating healthy, drinking your water and exercising after the Dr gives you the ok. I know this from first hand experience and I was SUPER pissed that every other friend of mine had given me false hopes. I didn't start losing weight until after I stopped breastfeeding 6 months after giving birth. According to my Family Physician it all depends on your biological makeup. And before I get flamed, yes I'm totally jealous of all the Mommas that CAN lose weight while breastfeeding. :D  Just know if you breastfeed the weight loss isn't always automatic.

  • What @scgirl6113 said. None of my friends lost weight from breastfeeding.
The only two I know who did lose weight (myself included) ended up having a thyroid issue.
  • Yeah I was in the middle! I lost a ton of weight breastfeeding but also held onto a good 5-10 pounds until I fully weaned. Biology is weird.
  • Another thing I want to add, if you're going to BF and pump or look at exclusively pumping, if you can let your little one nurse from time to time, your body actually absorbs some of the baby's saliva letting your body know what it needs--nutritionally and in regard to antibodies. It is flipping amazing and blew my mind when I learned that!! So, if you can let them get on the boob from time to time! :)

  • That's actually protected me too.  Nursing my son through sickness has actually prevented me from getting sick even though the whole house was sick.  Also, if I was sick, nursing my son helped prevent him getting sick, even though my husband was sick as well.  Yay, boobs!
