  • update: so my high risk obgyn (which is going to be the consultant to my regular obgyn) performed an ultrasound last Friday with a better machine. babies are doing great. however she thinks they are smaller than LMP by 5-7 days, ( so a little over 7 weeks instead of a little over 8 weeks) due date still in march though. maybe I ovulated later? but they are good sizes, good heart beats. and she thinks they are mono-di. which is good. but now I have to worry about other stuff like twin on twin transfusion.

I have tons of really scary nightmares that makes me always afraid to go to the bathroom and wipe...

Also TMI but I have a retroverted uterus apparently .....  that mean my uterus is tipped backwards. it makes it hard to find baby B bc it likes to hide back there, but also it means apparently its been harder for me to empty my bladder..... so like I gotta try extra hard OR if she sees there's too much built up in 2 weeks she will want to put a cat in me. AH. no. AH no. so im trying.. LEANING forward. leaning backwards..... PUSH harder to pee so on.

Shortness of breathe has been bad.. I feel a bit worried. im constantly winded. I may call my doctor later. anyone else feeling it? this is our 1st pregnancy. and its natural.

I slept almost all day Saturday....

Grow grow babies grow grow. *healthy and happy*

cant wait to see them again this Friday with regular obgyn

  • Just got a message from my OB - I need to start taking extra folic acid, aspirin, iron and go in for an early glucose test. Apparently twins make us high risk for pre-eclampsia, anemia and gestational diabetes. Lovely. These two are gonna hear about this for their entire lives!

Anyone else on the same boat?

folic and iron too here (ive got a pill pouch going on). not sure about the glucose test. maybe I should already eat less sugar, but man I don't want to eat anything!!!!!!!!

  • @mrsyimster - I'm with you on the retroverted uterus boat. My specialist said it won't matter in a bit once the uterus enlarges, but if I stop being able to pee, to notify them! He also thinks this is why I feel like I constantly have to pee even right after I empty my bladder. Fun stuff...

my MFM doc showed me how to move my cervix... kinda weird I know... but since she "moved it" to show me.. it seemed maybe she moved it outa the way.... I also try to pee real hard these days.. Last time at the ultrasound she said I wasn't able to empty my bladder (she made me go pee and then come back immediately) these days I seem to pee less.

PS: Confession: I always get super super antsy, scared before my US appointment which is every 1-2 weeks. just want 2 little healthy happy sticky nuggets. please tell me im not the only one.

Also, I do touch my bobbies to make sure they still hurt through out the day...... even though I clearly have other symptoms still.

  • @mrsyimster I also am so scared until they get that want in there and I see my 2 nuggets, then after the fact, the anxiety sets back in until the next scan!

  • Congrats everyone! We have twin girls who are almost 2 1/2 and I just gotta say, twins are so so fun! I love how much they just get each other and are totally used to the other being there. It's hard at the beginning but so completely worth it.

I actually felt way better with the girls than I do now with just 1. The girls were mono-di so we had ultrasounds just about every other week between the regular OB and the perinatologist. It feels kind of funny now not getting to see this gummy bear all the time but I guess that's normal! We were able to deliver both vaginally at 36+4 and they had 1 night in the nicu and did so good.

I think my biggest takeaway from having a multiple pregnancy is just to roll with it. Everything is crazy with 2 but if you just sit back and take it all in stride you won't stress yourself out over details you can't control. I worked all the way up till the day before they were born which was so good because my body was totally ready and labor and delivery went great.

Okok, enough babbling. Oh I'm just so excited for you all!!

  • @nursedockter thanks for the advice. That's amazing that you worked right up until delivery. I have been stressing about that. One of my providers said most women carrying twins can work up to about 32 weeks. I hope I can go longer than that!

  • @nursedockter- Thank you for sharing such a positive experience.  Definitely needed to hear it!
  • Had aother ultrasound today! Babies are measuring 9 weeks and growing good :) they really think they are mono di now. And one of them is sideways. So 3 pix. One is twin a and b seperate and the one with them together but not in the same position. U only see the side head viewish. Strong heart beats 179 and 181 :) *grow grow babies grow grow* doing the genetics blood test next week which, since they are identical, should tell us the gender! Yay

i was all worried going in, and got so emo when I heard their heart beats as always. The little nubs for hands and legs are there. One of them was wiggly a little too!

  • I know there are lots of horror stories about twin pregnancies and deliveries but you can't let those psych you out. My mother went full term with my bothers and had no issues. My sister-in-law same thing. I tried really hard to stay as active as possible and spent so much time on my feet (working in the OR) that my cervix was just ripe and ready when it was time. The early post-partum period of nurse-bottle-pump was trying but we got through it. And then all of a sudden they will be 2 and you won't hardly remember them being little tinies! Sigh. It goes so fast.
  • @nursedockter how did your nursing go, did you exclusively pump or nurse? with my DD I nursed, but this time, with 2, I'd like to pump/bottle feed so that I can get some help from DH, and make night time feedings quicker LOL

  • @MrsNap_515 Nursing was definitely a challenge. My milk didn't come in right away so we started out doing the nurse-bottle-pump routine. I would start by nursing them and then they would get a bottle and then I would pump to try to boost my supply (I basically felt like I did this routine non-stop for the first two weeks). Once my milk came in we got away from the bottle part of the routine but I worked full time so I got real close with my friend, the pump. I was never able to pump extra so I still did all the feedings when I was home. We lasted about 10.5 months before mastitis (for the 4th time) and thrush finally did me in. I'm not sure how to feed just one because with two you just give each one a side and that's that! I'm sure I'll figure it out. The night feedings were tricky because one would inevitably wake up and so I would feed her (if it was hunger) but then I would have one full boob and be too scared to see if the other one would keep sleeping so I always just fed them both! I was terrified I would let the sleeping one sleep and then she would wake an hour later! Kind of silly but these are the things you have to think about! Phew. Sorry. That was long!
  • Thanks @nursedockter for that info! I also work full time, and even though with twins I would love to stay home, reality is, we can't have a 1 salary home, so I know I'll be attached to my pump too while I'm at work, I had supply issues with DD, where I would have to supplement formula at daycare, but I was not rigorous about pumping, but I feel like knowing what I know now, I need to really get a pumping schedule

Can I ask how all of you ladies found out you had twins/triplets so soon? My doctor wouldn't even do any US until 9 weeks. She hasn't even done a blood test to check my levels because "that's not standard anymore." I actually haven't seen her since my intake around week 5! I'm actually surprised because I'm 39 and **tw** had a chemical in January. The only reason I'm concerned is because I'm gaining weight faster than with my daughter, my nausea is more severe and everyone is saying "I bet you're having twins" which I know is a common joke but I'm starting to not find it amusing!

  • @rainafire77 I don't know about others, but I saw an RE to get pregnant so I got extra screening (immediate blood work after my first positive and an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks that showed twins).  I know this is a huge benefit (the one benefit?) of having to see fertility doctors.

If it helps, they didn't tell me to do anything differently than I would already be doing for my pregnancy once I learned it was twins.  Some people take extra folic acid but apparently the amount in my prenatal vitamins was enough.  It's awesome to know already just because who doesn't want as much information as possible, but it wouldn't change anything if you knew now.  And apparently the thing about finding out early is that you greatly increase the chances of finding out about a vanishing twin.  Apparently they're pretty common and most women never know about them because they vanish before the first ultrasound.

    Good luck to you!
  • @rainafire77 I also went through fertility treatments, so I've been receiving scans since 5 weeks.

i wouldn't think you have reason to worry, those aren't really ways to tell if you are pregnant with twins, unless you think it might be possible because they run in your family?

really the only way to know is when you go to the dr for an ultrasound, wives tales aren't the best indicators of anything lol

no one would give me a blood test either. even though I had symptoms early. I just thought it was the way its suppose to be bc im a FTM.

I called around most places wont see you till ure 7-10 weeks. my friend lied so she could see hers sooner, and she saw at 5 weeks.

I didn't and my doct scheduled me out to 7 weeks. and I did 7 weeks exactly.

As for twins.... they do not run in our families at all. We naturally conceived. and they are natural identical twins. pure chance and little miracles. We were absolutely shocked when we found out, actually we still are shocked. *praying for happy and healthy little babies, grow grow!*

since finding out I immediately became high risk and have another high risk obgyn assigned me to, and I have to see my regular obgyn every 2 weeks.

We'll find out Friday. Twins run on my fiancé's side but not on mine but I am 39 soooo...

What's funny about the whole thing is the woman my fiancé works for is referred to as "Yoda" because she tends to make predictions that are scarily accurate. She kept referring to my pregnancy before I got the BFP and without knowing we were trying. Then after she found out, she kept referring to "the babies". Since she has a long history in our friend group of being right about things, that's why I'm tripping so hard and anxious for the US Friday! LOL

They actually started looking like mini humans! i am 8 weeks 6 days now and i have a 95% chance of carrying both now. So happy and sad news for me.
