@katesmama0706-  yes was given multiple reasons! Pregnancy started out as a twin pregnancy and we lost a baby at 7wks. Since it's assumed it was a chromosome issue the dr suggested I didn't get any blood testing done for abnormalities since it would more than likely come back as positive. So it was mentioned then that I could get the level 2 at 16wks. Then last Friday at my OB appt I brought it up to the dr about having it now and his response was I could have it at anytime. Now it's the nurse who is disagreeing with me and who scheduled it for me. Even though the dr also told me he would send referral and have them call me to schedule... I totally get they are usually done at 20wks but was under the assumption that it would be done sooner having been old that more than once. Guess I got to excited. They are seeing what can be done.

Edited due to it eating half my response.

  • @Knottie25816533, have you considered doing an elective ultrasound at a different office? I don't know what the overall opinion of those is on this board, but I had a nice experience with one at 15 weeks so my mom and sister could get a glimpse of baby (and double-confirm that she's a girl). By 18-19 weeks, it would seem like they could definitively tell you and then you could still have your reveal party even if your doctor can't scoot your appointment up for your other, perfectly legitimate reasons. Sorry you're going through that!

  • @Knottie25816533 yeah I'd definitely call back and ask to speak to another nurse or even go as far as demanding to talk to my doctor given the circumstances. Especially considering your doctor gave the go ahead as early as 16 weeks.
  • @Knottie25816533 Very strange. My midwife told me I could get my anatomy scan done at my next visit (I will be 18+5). I was shocked, and asked "wow, are you sure they'll be able to tell the gender then?" With confidence she said they definitely could. I then laughed at myself later for questioning her ability, this woman has delivered over 1000 babies in her 30+ year career, I'm pretty sure she knows a few things. Does it have something to do with the hospital's policies or your insurance? Why are they sticking so hard and fast to the 20 week mark?

  • First world problem:  my coworker used to have an awesome candy and snack drawer that everyone was allowed to raid.  She was recently diagnosed with adult onset type I diabetes and now the candy drawer is no longer being resupplied.  :/

  • @emtimme- I actually found a place about 45 minutes away that does do an elective! I'm calling them tomorrow! @katesmama0706 I think that's why I'm upset about it. He's the one who got the ball rolling that due to circumstances could have it sooner. @TexasGal24- no problems with insurance. Not sure about Hospital policy. This nurse just isn't budging but did give me the number to scheduling and said I could call to see if they could get me in sooner. So it might still happen. But I left a message there and am waiting to get a call back. Otherwise elective place I found has great reviews. Gender scan is $60 and if I want 3d it's  $150 so totally reasonable.
  • Bitching on a Friday.

My niece (8) has a stomach virus and has been throwing up for 6 days, finally stopped yesterday. My grandparents are in town and my mom has my niece there hanging with the old folks today. Mom texted me a picture of barfing-yesterday niece preparing the kabobs for family dinner that she expects me to eat.

First off- that's fucking gross normally, I don't do other people's sick germs well wtf (I'm a near germophobe, everyone knows this). But is it SO STRANGE that I'd like to actively avoid this week long virus while pregnant?? I don't particularly want to hang out with my niece until she's actually all clear, let alone eat food prepared by a known sickie.

Mom argued with me like it's NBD, she washed her hands! Right but she still picks her nose, she's just a kid (with standard shitty hygiene), sorry your feelings are not more important than me not getting sick. So freaking gross.
  • A quick Friday night bitchfest. I am so tired of being the designated driver. It is seriously annoying. And only being able to drink spruced up water.
  • @rdh33 Yes! We went out to dinner last night and someone asked me if I missed drinking. I'm like YES. But then I explained I missed more the social aspect of having a drink in your hand while talking with everyone. I obviously still hang out but it just feels like something is off now. I definitely don't miss being drunk or hangovers though! I had to DD for my husband a few weeks ago and he was annoyingly drunk. The next morning made it all worth it though!
