Re: August Randoms!!!

  • @UnwritteN12 One week!! That's so close! I'm so excited and nervous for you! But also really excited to see your babies.

@Megan324 Haha. Congrats! I agree with Anna's suggestion. I think being honest and letting them know you might be interested in the future is the best solution here.

  • Nooooooo. I'm an idiot. I ran out of things to do while waiting for my dr's appt, so I went on IG and SPOILED THE ENDING OF THE BACHELORETTE FOR MYSELF. I have no one else to blame, and I can't unsee. :anguished:
Ugh! Google did this to me this morning when I went to search something and a big fat spoiler was on the "trending searches" list... yuck... I'm not letting myself believe it untile I watch it tonight. Denial is starting.... Now!

  • @Ssoccerball my rule of thumb is if I can't talk or stand/walk through the contractions then I should go to the hospital. I only made it with 20 minutes to spare with baby #2 though. So I might need to rethink that strategy. Although it was only a 3.5 hour labor, and I have a high pain tolerance. Once it's the real thing there is no doubt in my mind. But my cousin with 8 children got sent home when she went in for her 8th labor haha.

@AnnaS930  that's exactly what I am going to say.

  • @seitzy3 I would still eat the shit out of those cupcakes.
  • Last night, as I was coming home from picking up my kids, I started having major cramping and backaches.  Even though I tried to lay down when I got home, the entire night was miserable with strong contractions (bowel issues, sorry TMI), and cramping in my back and uterus.  I took a bath before going to bed, but I would have bet money that I was going to be up in the middle of the night with regular contractions and/or my water breaking.  Then I woke up this morning and everything had settled down again.

The reason that I'm mentioning this is because I am legit starting to think that I'm not going to realize it when I go into real labor.  I was induced with my first two so I have no idea what it feels like.  And I'm worried about waiting too long to go in, since we live 45 minutes away from the hospital.  How long did you STMs or TTMs wait to go in after labor started?  How did you know it was real?
I knew it was real because the contractions took my breath away and I couldn't talk/walk through them. As a matter of fact, I never seriously time my contractions because they'll get progressively worse if it's real. Maybe I'm too relaxed about the whole process lol!
  • @lovelylauren86 - I'm sorry that happened to you. Man do I hate grocery shopping some days.. then I think "and I'm going to do this with Emmett in the cart and a baby strapped to me?" hmmm, not so much.  I currently do weekly groceries just me and Emmett, I think we'll be finding times that one of us (me or my husband) can go alone for at least a while.. or maybe go with just one kid, but let's be honest, even with one you can end up in a disaster, could be a good break to wander the aisles alone (and would only take 1/4 of the time)

  • I'm back just to say that I'm getting lots of work done and decided I could use some Skittles. there I am at the vending machine putting quarters in and some woman basically walks THROUGH me to the fridge. I had to press my belly against the vending machine for her to get by.  As if she couldn't just go around the table behind me, no need to barge on through.

I got distracted and thought my Skittles were D3... then I saw peanuts drop. PEANUTS!  Skittles were D4. UGHHHH.

  • Is it bad that I'm being a total FTM about labor and thinking, I'll just trust my instincts and listen to my body regarding when to go into the hospital? I keep thinking that timing the contractions will make me think about them too much. I'm not planning on waiting for the urge to push :p just until it gets too hard to do stuff through them.

@UnwritteN12 whoa, a week?! Let us know what they say! It's so exciting  <3

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom - I'm a FTM and I'm the same way. But I also live 10 minutes from my hospital in peak traffic so, I'm not really worried about not getting there in time. Plus, everyone in my family has always had super long labors (I know that might not be the same for me, but.. it's hard to just take that info and leave it) So I figure I'll know when I know.

If DH is around, he will probably time contractions for me so I don't have to think about the pattern or how long they last so much.

I found it somewhat instinctual. Didn't do a whole lot of timing, just enough to call the labor line at the hospital and tell them what was up. They said "why don't you just come in and get checked" so I did and was at 4cm and admitted!!

I timed because it was two weeks before my due date and I had no idea if I was in labor. Timing showed me they were getting closer together and becoming more consistent and helped me believe it was happening.

  • Just called my insurance to find out if I get a new pump or replacement parts....brand new pump covered 100% since we've met our deductible!!! I'm super psyched to be able to just leave one at work and have one at home!  My friend was telling me about the Spectra and how it's supposed to be super awesome, so I might try something new but part of me thinks it's easier to just get what I already have so everything works with both.

I had a Medela PISA before and am getting a Spectra this time because of the good things I've heard about it. I'll leave the Spectra in my office and use the Medela for when I'm on the road.

I told my sad song to a coworker over IM, seconds later I heard someone badge into our room. It was her, with a box of Sour Patch Kids from her desk! HOORAY! I tried to turn them down (fakely) and she insisted. I had made it 60% of the way through the peanuts and was angry with every bland bite.
    Awww that's so sweet!
  • @Sbrown721 - She's given birth to 5 babies (2 of her own and 3 as a surrogate). She knows the pregnancy struggles.

It's the high pain tolerance that also has me concerned.  When I was induced the second time, I didn't get an epidural right away and I was really fine.  The doctor said I was having strong contractions and she was stunned I wasn't asking for anything.  Last night, the contractions were uncomfortable, which made me think there might be something to it?  I thought for sure that I would know when it happened for real, but now I'm nervous that I won't.  And there is not a room in my house that is currently clean enough to give birth in!   :D

No, that's helpful to hear.  That was what made me not go in last night.  It was really uncomfortable, but never got worse.  Hopefully, that will be enough of an indicator for me.  I'm afraid that I'm that girl that doesn't want to cry wolf and will therefore end up giving birth in my living room on accident.

Just wanted to also say: don't be afraid to be the girl who cries wolf! Most OBs and hospitals would rather you come in or at least call for 1000 false alarms, then not come in when it's the real deal out of fear.

I hear you.  But, because we live 45 minutes from the hospital and have no family in town, it's kind of a deal to find someone to watch our kids until my mom can get here (she lives 2 hours away).  Our neighbors said that we could bring the kids over in the middle of the night if I should go into labor, but I'd hate to burden them with a bunch of false alarms.  These are my third and fourth children.  I thought that I'd be super relaxed, but the labor thing has me worked up because it really does feel like it's coming, soon.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo nope, mine did. So much easier to get on and off (nothing to put over baby's head) and ain't nobody got time to match onesies and pants and wrestle socks on tiny feet.

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo nope, mine lived in them for a long time! And then i
started dressing her like a 30
year old once normal clothes looked normal on her. I hated trying to put anything over her head when she couldn't hold it up on her own so sleep n plays for the win! Also, I recommend zippers!! Those buttons suck when they're squirmy
  • My husband kept E out of daycare today, drove a little over an hour to a beach to meet up with his mom/grandmother so they could spend some time together. Texts sound like all went well, E napped on way home from beach and spent some quiet time in his crib at home but didn't go back to more napping.  I'll get home at dinner time, I asked my husband "Grilling or pasta?" he said "either sounds good" ... no no no. The text was a reminder that YOU need to be making one of these since I'll get home from work at Emmett's typical dinner time. I have a feeling E will be eating at 6 and Matt and I will be making something at 7:30 when the kiddo goes to bed.

This is my husband's first full day alone with E in a long time (for the first year of E's life my husband had every Tuesday off with him, me every Wednesday and daycare the other 3 weekdays), so he's SUPER capable, never once question how well they'll do today, but I'm hoping my husband is TIIIIIRED so he can relate. I can't seem to keep my eyes open past 9:30pm lately!

  • @UnwritteN12--one week?! How exciting!!!

@seitzy3--same thing going on with my toddler. I can't sleep anywhere but in the recliner/on the couch, and after 2am he apparently won't sleep without me. So we have been coming downstairs and sleeping on our own chairs. Haha. Now he is also refusing to nap. Ugh.

@PoodleDoodleOoo--my kiddo totally lived in sleep and plays for months! I preferred the zip up ones to the snap up ones...maybe get a few of each until you decide which you like because chances are good you'll develop a strong preference in one direction or the other (i.e., I hate the snap up ones with a fiery hatred. Haha)
