Paisley Ann Wood was welcomed into the world on 7/28 at 12:12pm. 7lbs 8.5 oz. 20 inches. 41weeks Went in on due date 7/21 and was 2cm. Dr scheduled me to be induced in case she didn't come on her own before 41w. Checked in at 5am, started IV and pitocin around 7, Dr broke bag of waters 7:45am and contractions got close and painful so I caved for an epideral after trying to breath my way through an hour of them 2 min apart. Went from 2cm to 8cm in about an hour. Blood pressure was going nuts so pitocin was turned way back until baby and I went back to normal. After pitocin was back on I started pushing around 1045am and delivered at 12:12pm. I was eating lunch by 3pm and left the hospital about 24 hrs later. Couldn't have asked for anything better. I'm in LOVE!
I forgot I never did this! Sorry guys! So even though we are VERY late, I guess it's better than never.
Lincoln Ray Echo was born 7/9/2016 @ 8:23 pm. He was 8lbs, 7ozs and 21 & 1/4 inches long.
Birth story: 5 days early labor, contractions 3 minutes apart, but progression stopped at 2cm (despite continued contractions).
5th day, turned into active labor.
Couldn't sleep night of the 4th/morning of the 5th because contractions. Asked DH to take me to get checked. Nurse said I was still 2 - 2 1/2 and to go home and labor there comfortably. (I was scheduled to be induced the next night) At home, tried everything to make me more comfortable, nothing worked. Finally contractions had me to the point of tears and I decided I was going to go in. I headed to the bathroom (convinced I had to pee). make it half way to sitting on the seat and my water burst (in dramatic movie fashion) EVERYWHERE (since I have polyhydramnios). I stood there for a second thinking "oh shit, this is happening now!".
We finally get to the hospital, they hook me up and check me. Nurse calls out, asking the other nurses to ready the trays and everything. In an hour since my water broke, I had dilated to 8cm and thinned completely except the smallest lip to the right. She told me it was a good thing I didn't want pain meds/epi, because we would never get them in time any ways. Then to let them know when I felt pressure. Her and another nurse worked to ready everything, while I labored. I remember saying "Oh shit" through a strong contraction and then feeling way more pressure. Called for the nurse, said I was about 9 1/2 but the lip still wasn't gone, so they put pillows under my left side to try to put extra pressure on the lip.
Couple more contractions and I knew I was going to throw up. Warn everyone, and someone holds a bag for me. The natural tensing up during this causes my body to start pushing (husband was like stop pushing! I gave him a stupid look and said I'm not doing it!) Feel like I can't stop pushing. Ask nurse to check me, but she has to wait because I have a big contraction. Remember saying "Oh fuck!" this time (nurse laughs because I don't raise my voice or yell or anything. Just said it.) Nurse checks me, says I'm 10 and we are going to start pushing, dr should be in any time. (I am exhausted by this point, had been up for 40+ hours).
We do 5 pushes, and she leaves to get the Doctor. 1 push and my husband says he can see his hair, dr proceeds to give him a Mohawk while he is crowning. I'm informed they are doing a lidocaine injection because he's pretty sure I'm not making it out of this without tearing, and I'll probably need stitches. Next push and his head is out, sunny side up, cord around his neck and meconium mixed with a little more amniotic fluid. They removed the cord, suctioned him really well and told me to push slow and steady 1 more time. They could already tell his shoulders were stuck. I can feel them wiggling him back and forth trying to get his shoulders out. They finally wiggle him out, resulting in a few second degree tears and a bunch of stitches.
My beautiful boy was brought into this world in a peaceful, med and intervention free birth just like I hoped he could be! (Despite the on call dr previously saying I had an extremely low pain tolerance and wouldn't make it without an epi). I feel super blessed to have been able to have the birth I hoped for, and such an amazing little boy.
My husband and I welcome baby John into the world on July 31st. After getting a membrane sweep on the 28th, I finally lost my mucus plug in the 29th. Experienced some minor cramping and discomfort but nothing to write home about. By Saturday the cramping turned into small contractionsn that started in my back and wrapped right around to the front. At 10pm I called L&D to see if they'd like for me to come in. I was GBS positive so off i went. On the morning of the 31st they broke my water and that really got things going. By 10 am my contractions were severe and all in my back with very short spaces between. I ended up being very sick and vomitting and dry heaving. I opted for the epidural at this point. Best decision I made that morning. I finally had the energy and will power to get thru the day. By 2pm, I was pushing. I pushed for about 2 hours because someone was quite stubborn and just too cozy in there. At 1558, out came this beautiful little bundle of sweetness. He's absolutely perfect. We are working on breastfeeding, which is going ok. I'm utilizing a nipple shield which has been extremely helpful due to my inverted nipples. He latches so much better and we both don't get as frustrated. Sleep evades me but it's worth the raccoon eyes when I get to hold my little guy. We are discharged tomorrow and I cannot wait to get him home to meet his doggy brother
So this little nugget happened! Rose Maisie was born 8/1, 7lb3oz and 21 inches long at 40+5.
Went in for a scheduled appt that morning and was offered a membrane sweep which I gladly accepted. Had an NST since I was nervous about being post-dates that showed absolutely zero contractions. An hour later I abruptly started having contractions five minutes apart and headed into L&D around 1p after two hours of continued contractions. I had gone from 2 > 4cm in that time! Was admitted and opted to walk around and use the tub for about two hours until the contractions got progressively more intense (you med-free mamas are goddesses) and I asked for the epidural I had planned on getting. At that point I had gotten to 6.5cm and was shocked. After the epi my OB broke my water and contractions immediately kicked up to every 2 minutes. Hung out and laughed with DH and my nurses (epidurals are amazing) until I started to have a lot of rectal pressure about 3-4 hours later and low and behold was fully effaced and anterior lip only. I labored down for another hour and then pushed for 3 contractions and out she came at 10:19p. Had a small 2nd degree tear requiring two stitches.
She he immediately pooped on me and then started rooting. She latched on (poorly) so that's what we're working on now but man, all she wants to do is suck whatever is nearby so I hope I can get it corrected before she destroys my nipples.
Overall I had an amazing birth experience and it went so much more quickly than I thought it would as a FTM. After being so anxious about being post-dates and wanting to be induced it turns out my body knew what it was doing after all. Other lessons learned: membrane sweeps ftw, epidurals are amazing, and I loved my care team for having me labor down before pushing.
Hello, I am new to the community. I was a member in the November 2016. I delivered twins at 24 weeks and 5 days. Jordan Devon weighed 1lb 7 oz and his sister Sydney Marie also weighed 1lb 7 oz. I woke up on July 23 in mild pain 1 am. After using the restroom the pain became severe. By 1:20 am we were on the way to the hospital. When they checked I was 10 centimeters dilated and baby's a amniotic sac was in the birth canal. After 10 minutes of try to stop the labor I had an emergency c-section. They both are using ventilators and are in incubators.
I was really starting to worry I'd be like THE LAST person to write here! Lol Here's the story, which I'll try to keep brief!
Went to the doctor yesterday and the sizing ultrasound revealed I had "too much" fluid so it would be best to induce that day. Went to the hospital and the doctor first did a membrane sweep. Then pitocin started at 4:30pm. Labored with no epidural, but I did get stadol (and LOVED it) twice. Pushing started at 9am this morning. They had me pushing for THREE HOURS to no avail. I told them: I'm not doing this for another hour. Tell the doctor to just take her out. So the doctor said we could try vacuum first then c-section if that failed. Went to the OR and got a spinal (which I wish was an option in general) and they gave me a catheter jic I had the c-section. Ended up using the forceps and she was out in 2 pushes. (They had to rotate her though becase she was facing the wall, not sunny side down.)
So baby girl L.E. was born today (8/2/16 and 40+2) at 1:20pm 8lbs 9.2oz and 20.25" long!! And already latching and breastfeeding like a champ (on one side) so let's hope that continues!! Lol
This is quite late, but we had some difficulties. My water broke on 7/19 around 8 pm. We got up and got ready to go to the hospital. I was only 2 cm at that point and not effaced. They gave me cytotek to help start contractions. They started but they became far too intense and LO wasn't responding well so they gave me medicine to slow the contractions. They continued having trouble reading his heart beat on a regular basis so they put the monitor on his head. I opted for the epidural at this point as the contractions were extremely intense and I wasn't allowed to move because they were trying to get a good read on him. They did the epidural at 5:30 am, but it only worked on my left side. They then tried to fix it but it didn't work so they removed it and did another epidural. This one worked better as long as I was on my right side but as soon as I laid on my back or left side, the right side woke up again. Around 9 the next morning, my OB came in and said she was really worried about my son and told me she thought we needed to do a c-section. I agreed because it was about the safety of my son at that point. They prepped me for the c-section and gave me a spinal block since the two epidurals weren't working effectively. That part was incredibly scary. They finally let my husband come back to the surgery room but by then they were already half way done cutting me open. My OB warned me that because he'd been in there for over 12 hours that he might not cry and they may have to take him away to the Nicu. To say that at 9:27am I heard my sons cry for the first time was the happiest moment of my life is an understatement. Recovery has been rough, and my birth plan of natural vaginal childbirth went completely out the window, but we have a beautiful baby boy. Born on 7/20 at 7 lb 2 oz and 20 inches long. Reid is the highlight of our lives and we grow more in love with him every day.
Team green turned team blue today. E.M. born this morning via C-section weighing in at 8lbs 6oz and 21 inches long.
Doctor said due to his broad shoulders, he would have gotten stuck in the birth canal and I would have ended up with a c-section anyway. This made me feel a little better about my decision as I was pretty upset I wasn't getting to have a VBAC.
both of us are doing well. He latched and has eaten like a champ. I've even been up and moving as often and as soon as was allowed. Now we are snuggling and watching the Olympics opening ceremony.
Hello all Since I'm trying to actively participate now here is our story!
I was very nervous about going to the hospital on false alarms and getting sent home (plus, I didn't want the bill from going to triage for basically getting felt up and not leaving with a baby) so I was bound and determined to not go until I knew for sure it was time.
My due date was 7/9 and at 3am on the morning of 7/6 I woke up to pee and couldn't go back to sleep because I felt contractions. Nothing bad, but noticeable. I didn't wake my husband up (he had been sleeping in the guest room because my snoring got so bad during pregnancy) because what was he going to do anyway? Just watch me? I walked around the house for a bit and watched some tv. At 5am I hopped in the shower because I knew his alarm for work would go off at 530 and we could head to the hospital from there.
We got to the hospital around 6/ 6:15 and left the car running at the curb because the 24hr valet service wasn't there (seriously?!). I figured if someone stole the car that is what insurance is for and there were bound to be security cameras. While I was changing into my gown in triage my hubs went to park the car. They checked me and told me I was 10 cm, my water was still intact, and it was time! I called my hubs in the parking lot as they were pushing me to my room.
My doctor wasn't able to make it in time (by that point, who cares??). They offered me an epi but said there was a good chance it wouldn't work because of how far along I was and told me how much easier recovery would be without it, so I (nervously) went drug free. P.S. I would do it again just for the ease of recovery...
I eventually got the approval to push (because there wasn't a doctor there and my water hadn't broken they were initially going to try and have me hold her in...umm, no.). My water broke on the 2nd push.
Miss Scarlet Elizabeth was born at 8:32 AM. 8 lbs 1 oz, 21 inches long. 1 day old
