Mommy Confessions

Hey ladies! What are your mommy secrets?

I thought of this because I have been trying to exercise everyday. The other day I hadn't gone on a walk yet and said I wanted to. My husband said "how about now?"  I didn't want to go because baby was about to fall asleep. My husband said wouldn't that be great, for her to sleep on our walk?  I told him something about mobile naps not being good for babies but secretly I don't like to waste her nap time on silly old exercise! Nap time is for mommy time. I like her to be awake on our walks. I tell myself it's good for her to explore the world on our walks but seriously I time them so she is wide awake so I don't miss out on any nap time mommy time. If she falls asleep on our walk I end up walking faster and even running to get home sooner. So I guess that is her way of helping exercise harder! Lol

Re: Mommy Confessions

  • @nikkinbonnie I am the same way with walks, but mainly because there is a more than 50% chance that I won't be able to transfer him to his bed, resulting in no time for me to get things done/spend time with the other kids.

  • Never fails, after the third lap at the track he is out!
  • It's been in the upper 90s here and even with a stroller fan and dressed only in a light onesie, when I've tried to take LO for a walk he's been drenched in sweat and had heat rash on his chest. I just ordered another stroller fan but suspect it won't help much. What are you ladies doing to keep your little ones comfortable while walking? What is the temperature where you live?
  • I only go for strolls when it's less than 90 degrees. Hasn't been for most of the summer till now. I'm so happy it's been so nice... Except for all the poke people about. I just want to shout, "it's so pretty out! Get your head out of your phone!!"... My husband is one of them... Lol... So I just stare down at my blank phone and act like I belong at the park.
  • @Missingchampagne it has been anywhere from 95 to 103 here (in the south). Its just way too hot, so we don't go outside. I have taken him outside in the mornings here lately, around 8:00, and we walk around the yard. That early its not too bad outside,  as long as we stay in the shade. We tried to do stroller walks back in May/June, but even with a stroller fan and onesie, he was miserable. Its unbearably hot in the south this time of year, especially with the humidity.  August is the worst month of the year. I cant wait for some cooler weather so we can spend time outside!!
  • LO has just about outgrown his bassinet, butIm not ready to put him in his crib in his room. His arms stick out through the slats and he knocks his hands against the sides when he moves in his sleep. I love him being in our room, so I will keep him in his bassinet for as long as possible. which probably wont be much longer . :'(
  • @loveymay Sounds like we get similar temperatures. I'm in Miami, Fl. So it's hot and humid as you can get. Poor baby will have to wait to see the outdoors until he's like 9 months old.

As for outgrowing the bassinet, I totally don't blame you! It's so nice to look over and see your sleeping baby next to you.

@Missingchampagne I imagine its more humid in Miami!  I live near Jacksonville, FL. I feel the same way, poor LO wont know what outside is till "winter" (and by winter I mean December when its only 80 degrees instead of 100, lol). Thats why Ive been taking him outside in the morning, so he wont be terrified of outside (and also because he gets bored easily and Im running out of ideas to entertain him. Being outside holds his interest).
  • @Missingchampagne @loveymay  I am in Florida too, near Tampa. It is unbearably hot. We're not spending much time outside cuz there's just no way to keep her cool. Looking forward to Fall!
  • @Missingchampagne It's been around 110-115 here (central Arizona) since May. I've just decided to keep him inside. I don't even like taking him places because the car gets so hot.
  • @runningwild @missingchampagne @loveymay I'm in Orlando and there is no way LO is going outside for anything during the heat of the day. On weekends, when I have to run errands, we get it all done by 10am. It sucks to lug around strollers, car seats, diaper bags, etc. when it's hot as hell outside.

Yes! Even the transition to the car sometimes is ridiculous! I have to "prep" the car for a few minutes with the A/C on before putting him in, which is easy enough at home but a huge pain coming back. Living a hermit life is so much easier sometimes.
  • @Missingchampagne I'm on holiday in the Northeastern part of Italy and weather has been 90-95 and extremely humid. We have been out in the afternoons to meet friends but now I refuse to go out between 12-3. I always put a terry or muslin cloth in the stroller and car seat to absorb sweat. I've had to strip him a couple of times so we went around with him in just a diaper.

  • I live in north Alabama, and it's been 90-100 and super humid around here, too. We're also in a drought so that doesn't help things either. I gave up the walks around the neighborhood sometime in May. it's just too hot outside. Even with the AC on in the car, his back is still sweaty after just a 15 minute ride. I'm definitely ready for fall so I can take him outside more!
  • I live in Michigan, so not as hot where you all are. It's pretty humid through and in the 80s. Even that is too hot for both my boys. They both are sensitive to heat and sweat a lot. We go out in the mornings and that's all we can usually manage. Cannot wait for fall! Dreading winter though. :/

I bought a nail file for LO bc I'm the clumsiest human ever and refuse to even try with clippers.
  • @K&Elizabeth - I hear ya on the car being too hot. We try to do everything at night if we have to go anywhere. That sun is just wretched.

It doesn't help that DH's car has black interior and 2 sunroofs. It's like the worst car to have in Arizona.

Confession: Sometimes I really, really want to yell "stop effing crying!!!" at my baby when she's been on it for a few hours, and I know the only reason she's crying is because she's tired but refusing to sleep.

Confession #2: when she's having a fit and won't sleep, I think to myself "This is exactly why I didn't want kids..."

After she's asleep, I usually feel pretty horrible for thinking that.

I did that when he was a few weeks old. He was sleeping and let out a shreak and kept on sleeping. I told my mom and she told me that wasn't bad, her mom accidentally cut off her ear lobe when she was a toddler during a hair cut.

I'm about an hour north of Orlando (in Ocala) I've been taking Jackson out in just a onesie everyday anyway. Yeah it's hot, but kids survive hotter temperatures than this in places without air conditioning, so I'm sure he will too. Not that I'm out in the sun directly mind you, but the shade is hot anyway with all the humidity.

Confession #3: Sometimes I'm tempted to leave my baby on the changing table because she's so happy and content up there (even though she just stares at a blank wall)

I haven't left her there, and never will leave her there, but it's tempting.

Confession #4: Also, I don't change my baby in the middle of the night unless she poops. I feel terrible about this, like im a neglectful
mother, but it's how I get her to sleep all night. I just smear her bum with Burt's Bees diaper cream before bed so that she doesn't get a rash. Lazy mom #1 right here  :|

I actually did a poll on Glow about whether people wake their child to change them overnight, and more than 200 moms responded. It was OVERWHELMINGLY "no, I don't wake a sleeping baby!"

If I lay my son down at midnight and he wakes up at 8am. He's staying 8 beautiful sleeping hours in the same pee-pee diaper!
  • People wake their babies the change their diapers!?! I had no idea I was supposed to unless there is poo and it's keeping them awake. I just put petroleum jelly on there. Why make the diapers last 12 hours off you are supposed to change them.

I think most people won't even change during a dream feed unless they cloth diaper and those hold a little less.

We do cloth, but I would change regardless. We don't wake him to change though; that would be silly. We just change if he wakes to eat, but he goes back down very easily so it doesn't matter.

I do cloth during the day and disposables at night. LO wakes to eat at night and if I change his diaper it takes much longer to get him to fall back asleep. He doesn't seem to mind a wet diaper so I guess I'm ok with that. :#

Another confession, I'm super judgey sometimes about obviously over fed babies (or what I believe are over fed babies). I know this is really mean and I don't want to be mean. But ... I just saw a mom bragging about her "good hearty breast milk" when posting a pic of a 25 pound 4M old that looked on his way to pediatric obesity and I judged hard. I felt like that sweet little boy didn't have a choice in being so far over the weight he should be for his height.

I try to tell myself it's not my business, but the inner cattiness really flares up.

Mind you, I'm not talking about some little pudge. I know that's super common and doesn't imply over feeding. This was different. I actually thought the picture was photoshopped.

I've seen this sort of thing too and question is, if she was nursing, how does it happen? If my guy isn't hungry, he refuses to eat more. With a look of "get that thing out of my face right now!!" Was she pumping and forcing him to take everything in the bottle or did she state her feeding style? I know some neurological problems can cause people to always think they are hungry, but wouldn't more than 5 or so oz come pouring out of his tummy?

Mine will stop eating from both bottle and boob if he's no longer hungry. If I try to offer again, he just looks confused. He has a distinct hunger cry.

But if the mother doesn't know the difference between cries, she may just have been feeding whenever baby cries since birth. I imagine that after awhile, baby would cease to know his own hunger cues. But I do wonder how he wouldn't spit up the extra.

I assumed that all or most moms could tell when their baby was actually hungry, but apparently this is not necessarily the case. My own mother admitted to feeding us whenever we cried because she couldn't tell the difference, and my older brother was huge. Yikes!

    *Edit because autocorrect is annoying.

@ladylolly89 Yes my inlaws try to do this to my son. I tell them over and over again that babies cry for a lot of reasons, and if you just gave him a bottle, there's no reason for another one. I cropped out his face and the mom's name, but this was the baby. She said he was "thriving" and I was thinking "this poor little guy".

That very well could have been a bad angle of him. Also, if he was a huge baby they are still projected to gain like two pounds a month for the first few months then it tapers off. Babies are usually around triple their birth weight by the time they are a year old. The pics are just showing size difference by angles. Green was from like three weeks ago, but he looks much larger than in the alphabet diaper. ;)

My changing table has a small rail around it so I do leave him on there just to grab things from another room quickly. And I never change LO until the morning. He gets put down with a hemp insert which is super absorbent, and earth mama angel baby diaper rash ointment, and that's it til after he eats breakfast. I used to change him before he ate, but I was religiously getting peed on that way.
  • I guess my confession is I've already half assed started solids with Jackson. He likes melons
  • @Knottie9983816 It could be a bad angle, but Jackson still looks much smaller than the one I was referencing, with normal baby pudginess. It just took me aback is all.
  • @sarahufl I hear you. I edited the post, though I don't feel like I came here to "mock her" and tried to be careful in my wording. My original feelings remain the same, but I understand your position.
