Re: August/September IVF/FET

  • Welcome to all the new people here.  @BlueEyedDreamer if I remember correctly you were about the same time as me in June.  Glad to see you back.

Question for those who have used estrogen patches.  Are they better or worse side effect wise than the pills?  I start them Saturday and have bloodwork/US as well.  Just curious if any of you have had experience with them.  I'm using the vivelle dots if that matters any.

    me:41 dh:42
me:PCOS, blocked left fallopian tube, hyperprolactinemia  (dh's swimmers are perfect/normal)
Tried 3 rounds of clomid with Ovidrel trigger (BFNs)
May/June 2016 IVF   6/1 ER 7 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized via ICSI  6 embryos made it to blasts.
6/6 2 AA embryos transfered, 4 BBs frozen
    Beta 6/18  -- BFN
    FET #1 August 22 BFN
Dec 2016/Jan 2017 Round 2 was a bust. 6 eggs, Only 1 embryo made it, no transfer
FET #2 cancelled 10/17 due to uterine polyps. Postponed until 9/2018 due to hip replacement.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 - I don't really know when I'll be starting stims for sure. Depends on when my next cycle starts naturally (no OCPs for me), but I think I'll probably  start stims in early Sept based on my calculations.

    @babylonghorn16 GL tomorrow!

My baseline and bloodwork looked good so I start my stims tonight!  Wowza my RE is not playing around this time. 75 ml Menopur, 125 mg Clomid, 500 ml Follistim. She's pulling out the big guns. She also gave me a helpful hint that I wanted to share. Those follistim vials actually have 100 ml more than what is listed on the package, so that equates to about $100 you could potentially save. Also, my nurse told me that she was a previous patient of my RE and now is the proud mama of twins. YAY! I'm really feeling like this is the one. (We'll see how I feel after a couple of day of med :P)

Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old.
    IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6
    IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN
IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Scanned day 9 just to check, some growth, 3 days 200 mg clomid, day 12 more growth, 100 follistim, 75 menopur, start ganirelix on day 13, ER = 0 eggs, ovulated to soon ( :( )
IVF#4 scheduled Sept 2016 - Microdose Flare protocol, cancelled stim day 6 converted to IUI (one dominant follicle)  :(  IUI cancelled ovulated too soon again. Taking a mental health break.
IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.

@lilmissslp thanks for your encouraging words! I do feel like I currently have two bowling balls in my pelvis so hopefully that's a good sign lol! How many embryos did you end up being able to freeze?

Anyone who has gone through ER already, how did you feel afterwards and did you return to work the following day??

  • @KirstenCas We've met a few women (employees/nurses) at our RE who have conceived through IF treatment as well. When we were signing consents our nurse was empathizing with this process with us and was like "Well I have a picture of my son when he was a 5 day embryo, how cool is that". Good luck on stims!

    @jodes727 I'm with @KirstenCas. I have egg envy also!  That's awesome!

@KirstenCas I had noticed that also with my follistim!  I wish they had told me that the first cycle. I figured it out the second cycle. It just required sticking myself an extra time some nights.

@Kp214 So this last time i order the follistim they were out of the 900 ml vial and had to give me a bunch of 600, which sucks cause it means so many more shots but its like my RE explained, you actually come out with so much more medicine! I'll suck it up and take the extra shots!

  • @AugustAng Yeah so the follistim and menopur make me sweat a lot and yell at strangers, clomid makes me cry uncontrollably, all of these mixed together are going to make for an interesting 10 days. And for some reason i'm really excited about this.

Babylonghorn16 good luck with the transfer!

sleepyrn I used estradiol patches, but it was so so so much better for me than the pills. The pills gave me horrible acne and gas. It was awful. Love the patches.

KirstenCas good luck with your first stims tonight! Nice to get the first round out of the way.

AFM, first u/s tomorrow bright and early after 3 days of stims. trying to stay calm ...

  • @babylonhorn16 Thank you for the warm welcome! It's reassuring to connect with others that understand. Good luck with your FET tomorrow! I am so happy that you have so many healthy embies!

@wifeinraleigh28 Thank you for the welcome! Originally, we were thinking of doing PGS and then a FET, but the closer I get to our IVF the more I think that there might not be enough embies to warrant testing. So I guess we are straddling the fence and waiting to see how my body responds. Sorry about my username. I did not think that through very well.

Oh my gosh, I forgot to check this thread for a few days, and I feel totally behind now! It's exciting that we already have a few people done with the retrieval a, and I think I read someone who just did their transfer...good luck and sending positive thoughts your way. I'm on mobile, and I have a really hard time keeping track of everyone since I was so behind, so I'm sorry that I'm not replying individually.

i was sitting in the waiting room of my RE's office today, and they were calling husbands/ partners back for collection for retrieval day, and DH and I both said how we can't wait for that to be us.. Hopefully just a week or so away!
Afm, i had my day 5 monitoring appointment today. Lots of follicles on both ovaries, but all still very small- biggest one measured at 6. RE said its not necessarily bad, but could take me longer. After blood work came in, estrogen was low, so he decided to up my menopur dosage. I'm feeling worried that things have already had to change because my body isn't cooperating, ugh. Is this a bad sign? Please catch up body! Hoping my next appointment on Saturday shows good progress.

    Welcome to the new ladies.
Afm, I'm so beyond exhausted. Please tell me I'm not the only one. After the extra day of stims I'm triggering tonight and doing my er on Saturday. Yesterday we got the news that there were only 4 mature follicles. Today we have 6-7! My re thinks he might get 1 or 2 more to up our odds. I'm beyond happy to hear that, as he was prepping me for the possibility of a canceled ER and start the stim cycle over again.

  • @simple petal. That's what mine was as well. Then mid cycle I had to order more!

Update: My progesterone level came back at 1.7 (so above the 1.5) and my RE wanted to switch IVF to a freeze all and transfer in Oct as he wanted to do a fully medicated FET. I told him no. He agreed to let me do a fresh transfer (my chances went from 65% to 40% this cycle). He doesn't think he will have any left to freeze as it appears they may have let me over stim and that extra night was our culprit. But we are not 100% sure yet... Any way, I will move forward with this cycle as is and accepted that we will likely need another one. I plan to talk to one of the other REs at the practice in regards to a cycle with natural FET as my chances of progesterone going up every cycle is likely. If they just won't do a natural FET at all, I will look to move to different clinic all together.

My DH has been great and very supportive through all this plus mourning of my step father. But everytime I talk to him I just cry!! He called me from work yesterday to ask about an unrelated topic and just the sound of his voice started the flow of tears! I'm sure all the added hormones are helping.

I am am off to the funeral service today and ER is tomorrow at 11am.  Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Good luck to all those ER today and tomorrow and who starting or currently stimming!!
  • Good morning ladies, I'm so excited to be going immediately into a frozen cycle but do hope it's a good idea. The dr didn't object so I would think it's fine; however, I always read that ppl take a cycle off. Is anyone else moving on right after a failed fresh cycle? Also, I'll be on estrace and estrogen patches. That seems like nothing after all the meds for the fresh cycle!

@simple petal - "le sigh"...i had a friend in college who used that ALLLLLL the time! haven't heard it much lately, so you just gave me a huge dose of deja-vu!

@babylonghorn16 - i can't remember if i already said good luck and FX, but yay for today!!!

@Sunnshine - I'm glad that your doctor agreed to let you go ahead as you wanted, but that stinks that your chances have gone down slightly cause of the progesterone levels :d  Good luck and FX at your ER tomorrow!!
  • @lilmissslp - if your doctor seems ok with it, i think it will be fine? Estrace is just another form of estrogen, right? How come you'll be on both that and the patches? (Just curious, i know once i get to my FET, my RE usually only does estrace and then only adds another med if the person is being slow to respond...)
  • Thanks for all the support!!! Transfer will be at 11CST!!!! AHHHH, I'm so so nervous/excited! Can't wait to be PUPO!

Also I was thinking that they share their success rates and wouldn't knowingly do something that would lower them. Im really not sure why I'm on both. He just said we'll do a high dose of estrogen. Maybe because we're jumping right in from our last cycle??

GL on your transfer @babylonghorn16 we'll be thinkng of you

@Simple Petal my meds are about $6K ugh all out of pocket for me

@lrynwnab thanks! 1st day is in the books ... 10-14 more to go :)

afm - i'm so annoyed that the follistim pen only lets you dial up to 450...boo that means i'll have to do 2 of those each night plus the menopur (i know its too early to start complaining :)) I had to rewatch the videos to make sure i was doing it correctly. Actually i'm super pumped, i just have a feeling this time i'll make to the er!

  • @wifeinraleigh28  Fantastic news!!  I am so happy you got 20 eggs and everything went well!  Enjoy your puppy snuggles and get lots of rest today!

@KirstenCas  I think I heard 450 was too much to mix with the menopur, but maybe you could mix the 50 with the menopur and still only have to do 2 shots!

@babylonghorn16- Goodluck on your FET today!!
