Hey all, we're visiting family in the next few weeks and are looking for some creative ways to announce the news! I know a lot of folks announce on social media with cute photos but I'm interested in hearing how you're announcing news in person to family. Anyone getting really creative with it? In the past we've done the "big sibling" t-shirts but I want to get really fun this time since it'll be the last time around.
To our parents we gave them a onesie to open that said "the best parents become grandparents 3 times" and for grandparents I had my 3 year old draw our family and draw the baby. I videotaped everyone finding out. It is an awesome video.
I realize this wouldn't work for anyone, but I'm mostly posting this to bump this thread to the top because I have been loving reading all these announcement stories - they make my heart sing.
Right before my first pregnancy we had just bought a house. My parents live on the opposite coast from us, so DH and I skyped them and gave them a virtual tour of the house. When we got to one of the spare bedrooms, we had the ultrasound photo taped to the wall that said "My future room!". They were so confused, then excited, then starting crying from happiness, lol.
My DH and I got into our in laws house while they were at church and decorated the kitchen with baby stuff, streamers, balloons, and a banner that said "baby". We were hiding when they got home and filmed their reactions. It was so much fun, and the video turned out so well! We live about 3 hours away, so it was a complete surprise to them.
In person we've done onsies before or big cousin shirt for our niece. This time for his parents we got a frame from etsy that says something about getting promoted to grandparents again... with a pic of our lo holding the us pic.
For my dad this time I baked him a belated birthday cake when he was in town and said hey let's take a family photo too. I made a sign for the cake facing him said Happy birthday. After I took the first photo I told everyone let's do one more... turned the cake around and the other side of the sign said We're pregnant! (It was super funny too bc I was trying to do red white and blue cake but thr food coloring wasn't enough so it was white, baby blue and pink inside!!)
The other one I'm looking forward to the most is at our family reunion next month.
It's a onsie that has this long paragraph - "one day I'll be a camo wearing, tractor riding, hunting man" Then at the bottom in much smaller print it says " but for now I'm going to be a big brother!"
So we are just going to take him to the big party in that and see who notices. :-)
Telling my in laws this weekend. They are building a coastal house, so I bought baby water shoes and we're going to say, "we got these for the new place!" and give the shoes to them

We did little things. You can find way cuter ideas on Pinterest, but if you're looking for easy, we did:
- Wrote it in my MIL's birthday card (the rest of DH's immediate family was present for that too). We picked a card that said "From the 2 of us [birthday message]" on the front and inside we explained "but wait, there's really 3 of us! One is so excited to meet you in March 2017!" - Set a jar of Prego on my parents' table and waited for my mom to ask/figure out why it was there. - Same night, wrote "Aunt" on my sisters' cups when they came back to my parents' house from Starbucks. - Had to tell my brother without anything cutesy because he kept trying to offer me a beer and couldn't comprehend why I wasn't in the mood for one, haha.

For my last pregnancy, we invited both parents over for a BBQ to use our new pergola in the backyard. After dinner, I went upstairs and slipped the dog into a shirt that said "I'm going to be a Big brother" with a dog and strollers on it. He came running downstairs and of course everyone's like oh what does your shirt say?? The moms held him for awhile and we're like aw that's cute that's what people do when they're going to have a baby... .. Are you going to have a baby?? *cries* You're not getting a second dog? You're gonna have a baby??

I told my parents I was doing a "family tree" project for school (I taught first grade) and that I needed to take a picture with them. Instead of a picture he took video. He said "ok 1...2...3, say cheese! ... That one was blurry, let's try again. 1...2...3, say Jenn's pregnant!" It was amaaaaazing to capture their shock on video!
We told my parents already. We sent DS into the living room with his new book "What Brothers Do Best" and told them that he had a new book he wanted them to read with them. They freaked! They are so excited! The weekend before, my sister announced to them by picking them up from the airport with my nephew in a big brother tshirt! The videos of both announcements are so special!

With my parents we bought them a 'birthday present'. It was a picture of me in a frame and on the outside I wrote "two in the frame". (We wanted to do a pic of both of us for 'three in the frame' but we had no one to take the picture).
We're telling both sides this weekend. Both of our moms have August birthdays that are being celebrated this weekend. Not super creative, but we're planning on signing the card with our names plus "Baby XX due in March" and are going to be waiting for their reactions. That way our moms can share with everyone else there!
I was thinking of doing something like this for my parents. This will be their first grandbaby. (Sorry if huge, on the app) For in-laws, they just bought a new house with a pool, so we are going to give them a "housewarming gift" of a baby life jacket. Also their first grandbaby.
Re: Creative In-Person Announcement Ideas?
Fro my in laws we gave them a pacifier with a "Coming in March 2017" tag attached. It took them a minute but they got it.
