Re: July Randoms Thread

  • How is it almost August!?!

This kid is so much more of a mover than DD1.  @marajay6 same as you with periods of sleep with the 1st kid, but this one doesn't seem to have that downtime at all.

  • @Shiva14 I wouldn't worry yet. Learning two languages at the same time almost always sets them back some (in my experience). And he may not even be behind. McKenna knows words, but there is still a lot of gibberish being spoken. I actually wasn't concerned about McKenna's speech until we went to a book store and there was a girl a month older than her there talking up a storm. I've worked with enough toddlers to know there is a huge variance in speech ability that is still normal, but it's different when it's your own child. Regarding following directions, it goes either way with us. She's almost 2 and stubborn so sometimes we just get ignored. It's clear she understands us and that's what is most important, I think.

@LakeR2014 That's funny. In our house it's me that will wake up pissed off at DH... usually because I'll have a dream that he cheated on me.

@MrsVoorhees Yay! I'm so happy for you! Ibuprofen FTW!

Re dreams: I had a weird one (really two) last night, too. I haven't hardly dreamt of the baby yet, but last night I dreamt I was out with McKenna and the baby and I realized I hadn't fed either of them in a long time. So I fed McKenna first then realized I'd never fed the baby ever and she was two weeks old. So I was worried about how I was going to breastfeed her because my milk had probably dried up. Then I start worrying how I can maintain a supply big enough for her and McKenna to tandem nurse (I stopped Bf'ing last Sept, so that's not a real concern). Finally I wake up only to have the same dream again!

Re holidays: We do Thanksgiving with DH's side on the actual day and my side will does it the following Sunday. Christmas morning is just us (been adamant about that since we got married). The afternoon/evening varies on the year. Usually, my ILs celebrate on a different day and we spend time with my family (at either our house or my brother's house 5 minutes away). Last year, we did both on Christmas day, though. That was rough, and hoping it's not suggested this year. I will say I grew up with the tradition that mornings were just mom, dad, brother, and I then afternoon/evening was the whole family. It's a tradition I want to keep going with my children.

  • @PSUBecky23 our daughters sound a lot alike. The tech always called her wild woman in the womb. And she sure is a wild little girl. Doesn't stop, evvveeerrrr.

Cam was pretty tame and she came out and was the most chill baby, then she learned how to walk and she is wild woman number two

Ava moves a lot during certain hours but she is by far my strongest girl. Her movements hurt like hell!

@marajay6 you will have to let us know! I'm team correlation but a lot of people say there's no proof. I certainly have proof in my girls.

  • Add me to the club of this baby being a bigger mover than my first. My first was always a good sleeper, too, and I have a feeling this LO will be up all the time. Not only does she never stop, the movements are HUGE compared to my last.

  • @camichael84 Inhad that dream too!! That I was out with the baby and realized I had never fed her, ever. Why do we have that dream??
  • What is it with the nightmares all of a sudden. Mine was nothing like @seitzy3 's but a nightmare nonetheless. Two nights ago I had a dream that....dun dun duuuunnnn......my in-laws showed up 3 weeks before my c-section and expected to stay with us. *cue screams of horror* They didn't let us know the were coming early, my MIL tried to talk to me about everything that his wrong with our relationship and DH just left me with them. He didn't maintain his "buffer status"!! Bastard! Of course I confronted him yesterday morning and told him he needed to call his parents ASAP (which I've been telling him for a week) to finalize plans for when they come down so there are no surprises.

RE fetal movement - These two used to be non-stop. They've definitely slowed though and generally I feel movement at certain times of the day. I don't think there's much room in there anymore!

  • @MrsVoorhees I don't know! I thought mine might have stemmed from my worry that I'll have supply issues again. (I'm really hoping my boobs are trained from last time and we will be good, I had a great supply once we were 3 months in.)

woah woah woah, I just received my finalized financial aid package-- did anyone else know how much more money they give you for having a child? Its substantial. I am so pleased right now. I was really worried about how I was going to pay for tutition
Good deal!! It makes me happy when people that deserve it get that money! My exbf used to get waaaaaaay more than he needed and he was so, so lazy. It made me so mad because I never got any and he's over there with enough to not have to have a job while he was in school. Which wouldn't bother me if he was someone that tried hard. Lol he was just so lazy.

@Megan324 yes!!! My sister has a son and is not married and I'm pretty sure she gets some really healthy assistance. It's like the one thing our system has right, encouraging parents to further their education!
  • @Megan324 Yay! I'm glad you got more and won't have to worry. I know it's a good amount. But only if you're undergrad, apparently. DH gets nothing for either of our children. Boo.

Regarding dreams, I had a horrendous nightmare last time I was pregnant, similar to yours @LakeR2014

I was about 28 weeks at the time and went into labor in my dream. What was real about it, I was just as far along in my dream. Anyway, I didn't have my bag packed and had hubby race me to the hospital. He went back home to get a suitcase together and by the time he got back to the hospital I had already had the baby! I was so upset DH missed everything. The nurse looked at me ever so calmly and said "we can put it back inside you until your husband arrives, so he doesn't miss the birth". I woke up sweating in fear and rubbing my belly, making sure I was still pregnant!

needless to say, I packed my bag that day just in case!! I can't get over how real these dreams can feel!
  • @camichael84 Booo is right!!!
Grad school is so expensive anyway...
I'll be searching for a way to get mine paid for. Lol
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Megan324 Find a job that will pay for it! That's the best! DH gets reimbursed $2000/yr. As you know, that is nothing, but it still helps. My brother's employer pays something like 90% of his tuition!

  • @camichael84 oh I'm so glad they pay for his textbooks lololol.

Before I got pregnant the plan was to work as a residence hall director and have school paid for that way but now I'm not so sure but since it's going to take me longer to finish undergrad I have more time to figure it out!!!

Is the only way to tell intensity and timing? It feels like period cramps and my belly is not tight.

I never had Braxton hicks with my first, and my only contractions were pitocin induced, so they felt like a freight train trying to escape from my uterus directly out of my abdomen.

  • I just read through a ton of posts and "loved" many. I can't remember all the responses other than

Insomnia. I too am having it. Last night I took half a benadryl for this problem and allergies and still hardly slept, did not help that my spouse woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me he thought he had sleep apnea or was potentially having a heart attack and was going to the ER. Then he decided he was fine actually and maybe he just had a cold, and he went back to sleep. Which made one of us. Cool.

@PoodleDoodleOooI have not shaved my legs in a million years. For some reason this pregnancy has seemed to make my leg hair not grow. Hopefully it's not a sign of a vitamin deficiency because it's awesome.

My random today is hooooly crap, someone called a bomb AND shooting threat into my small office building last night right at 5, saying they were going to set off bombs and shoot survivors. SWAT teams and cops swarmed the building, shepherded everyone down the stairs, and made them stand outside in the heat for hours while they checked everything out. Luckily for me, I had left less than five minutes before the call came in. Still, my spouse strenuously objected to me going to work today. I think, they didn't find anything, and what are the chances of two threat days in a row? Now the cops are probably watching like hawks for this person who is allegedly a disgruntled former client's spouse of one of the divorce lawyers here. No safer time to be here, probaby. Still, pretty crazy for the boring suburbs where I work.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo Shaving your legs is notable, especially at this point! I was so proud of myself for accomplishing that yesterday.

Also, I had a mashed potatoes craving a while ago and was way too lazy to make them myself. I agree with @UnwritteN12. KFC was the best I could find locally.

  • @jas1982 That is SO scary!! Glad you're ok!!
  • @PSUBecky23, I am also experiencing shortness of breath for no reason at all.  I will be sitting at my desk or laying down in bed, and all of the sudden my chest starts to feel tight and I have a hard time catching my breath.  It freaks me the hell out and makes me think that it must be what drowning feels like!

Re:  Pregnancy Insomnia, I can already tell that me and these babies are completely off schedule.  They have their own version of Fight Club going on between the hours of 11pm and 3am and I can't sleep until about 4:00.  I really think I get my best sleep from about 9am to 1pm.  I know from all the days that I stayed home from work.

Re:  Holidays, we split and go to one family for Thanksgiving and the other for Christmas, except that no one wants to miss Christmas with the kids, so whoever we spend Thanksgiving with gets "make up Christmas" either earlier or later.  The last few years, we started doing a Christmas at home with just DH, me and the kids and that's when we give them our gifts so that we don't have to haul them anywhere.  We eat breakfast for dinner and it's kind of become one of my favorite things.  At first I was resentful that my kids didn't get to spend Christmas morning in their own home, but extended family is really important to us (even though I despise my MIL) and we just made new traditions for our immediate family.

I'll join the club! I have been having these dreams where I haven't fed baby in days. It started with one about a dog in the first tri, I got a puppy and realized that I'd forgotten to feed it for three days. It jumped me and attacked me when I finally did and I woke up in a panic. It changed to a baby girl after that. Most recent one was I brought baby home and purposedly left her in the car for hours "so she could sleep" while my family visited and we hung out. Then I remembered I hadn't fed her since she'd been born, I went to feed her, saw her and didn't even try. I wake up feeling so guilty!

ETA it's been a recurrent pattern since the first tri.

Usually with BH you get the belly tightness. For me, real contractions are all in my back and feel very crampy. I have multiple BH daily and they feel very tight across my belly with some pressure down below. I'd drink water, lay down and start timing just in case.
  • @jas1982 wow that's terrifying! Sorry to hear you've had that scare at work this morning. Yikes!

My random could also go into the symptoms / tmi thread...woke up today feeling ok. I ate breakfast and took my prenatal and took colace (tmi!) and almost instantly my stomach started hurting. It wasn't too bad so I went into work. The instant I got there I knew I had to use the restroom. My stomach was hurting sooo bad. Ugh. So I finished in there and then sat back down and then the urge to vomit came. I have yet to vomit this entire pregnancy so I was shocked when I did. Needless to say I came home. I threw up two more times at home and then napped for 2.5 hours. So weird. I'm feeling mostly better now, but have stomach cramps here and there.

For those of you taking colace do you take it at a different time of day? Maybe taking both the prenatal and colace at the same time wasn't the best idea? Not sure, but I'm not doing that again. Yikes!! I even checked my milk to make sure it wasn't bad. It isn't. So it wasn't my cereal. Maybe it was from my dinner last night? All that came up was breakfast. Boo! :(
  • I am also having pregnancy insomnia and nightmares, I guess I am not alone. Mine are not scary nightmare per say, they are more like really stressful dreams about silly things. So I have not been sleeping very well.

@diagonalley It hurts when I roll around as well, it takes me a while and I usually have to half sit up to do it otherwise I feel like I will injure me or baby. We have a very soft bed too, so that may be it. This weekend I went to visit my sister and slept there, she has a hard mattress and turning around was a lot easier actually.

I almost went to my boss yesterday around 3 and asked to leave early because I could've easily put my head down on my desk and fallen asleep. Somehow I made it through until 5. I seem to have a lot more tired days than feeling normal days this last trimester.

  • @PSUBecky23 worst feeling ever! They only way I got some relief was lightly tapping on my stomach when I knew it was a butt or head or whatever and DD would move out of the way and bit and I could catch my breath before it happened again. Also leaning back a bit when I sit seems to let her have a little more room!

@KimmySchmidt I just asked my OB this yesterday. He basically said if they weren't timbale, painful(they can be uncomfortable but should be painful) and start randomly they are BH. If you think it's from overdoing it it probably is.

Yes. I called my sister nearly crying yesterday because I was so tired and I couldn't deal with it.  I want to note I've been getting pretty good sleep, 8-9 hrs per night with only 3-4 short waking interruptions, so the fatigue is just fatigue for fatigue's sake - no insomnia or lack of sleep reasoning behind it.
